Been a while hasn't it? Blame procrastination and lack of motivation, but I did pull through and continue working knowing that people were interested in this story! Been reading your reviews and I keep note on what I should be doing more of or what should be fixed, so I'm grateful for that! Anyways here's the next chapter!

"It all started with the being known as the Traveler..."

The girls listened intently as they listened to the drone talk about this mythical being that could terraform planets and improve civilizations with this magical power they called the light. While hard to believe, they weren't in any place to question it considering the situation that led them here. The drone would continue explaining more details, such as it's history with other species in the universe and when humanity had made first contact. While this was interesting, Natsuki spoke up before the drone could talk more about the Traveler.

"I know this is interesting and all, but can we finally start talking about you and MC already?" She crossed her arms, seemingly annoyed.

"Natsuki, that's not very polite..." Yuri added.

"Well sorry, but I just want to know about the what's the deal with the things right in front of us!" The pinkette pouted.

Cursor stared blankly at Natsuki before shaking itself. "Alright fine, I guess my knowledge about the Traveler will used another time. MC, care join me?"

MC chuckled as he walked next to his ghost, "Of course, can't have them falling asleep when you start talking like a historian." He looked over to the girls and gave a bow. "Well you already know our names, but to reiterate, I'm MC and I'm a Guardian, and this little guy right here is Cursor, my Ghost."

Sayori was the first to speak up. "How is he your ghost? You're alive and Cursor seems like a very different person!" The other girls sweatdropped at the question, but they did want to know what the drone really was.

"And judging by the name, what is it you guard?" Yuri added.

Cursor was the first to reply, "Ghosts like me are essentially beings created by the Traveler in order to find and resurrect our chosen in order for them to be a Guardian."

MC would speak up, "And us Guardians are people chosen by the Traveler to use the power of the Light to defend humanity and its allies from its enemies. Let me give you a small preview of this power." He then raised his hand as a small bundle of light began appeared over his palm, shifting through three different colors, that being a light blue, orange and a dark purple.

"Wow you can do magic! Real magic!" Sayori's eyes widened in surprise. Natsuki was intrigued as it reminded her of some of the manga she read involving magical girls. Yuri, being familiar with the idea of paranormal and occult couldn't help but stare in wonder from this phenomenon.

For Monika, this truly cemented the fact that this reality was much more different from their own, for people to suddenly have magic powers like this was just astonishing. "So every Guardian is capable of using this power?" She asked while tilting her head.

MC nodded. "All Guardians can use the light, but not everyone uses them in the same way." He stopped little demonstration and went back to explaining. "Guardians are put into three classes, I happen to be a Warlock. A type of Guardian that seeks power through wisdom, I like to believe we're more adept with using the light compared to the others."

"The other classes, what are they?" Monika asked.

"They're Titans and Hunters. That bulky armored lady Valda from before is a Titan. Her class is known for being the sturdy shield that protects humanity. They also give some mean punches if you get on their bad sides." MC replied. "As for Hunters, they're known fo-" He was interrupted by a new voice.

"For their good looks, lovable personalities and daring wit." The voice's owner revealed themselves, showing an lightly armored man with a navy blue hood he wore over his helmet that also acted as a cape. The girls were startled by his sudden appearance while MC took a step back.

"Who are you?" MC quickly asked.

"The owner of this house."

MC gasped as he quickly tried to explain himself. "I'm really sorry for intruding, you see this was my friend Vald-" He was interrupted by the man placing a finger over his lips.

"That's enough. Had a long day and I just want to rest on a bed. Feel free to stay or something." He started walking towards one of the doors before stopping and turning around for a final message. "Also don't touch my knives." With that said, he entered one of the rooms in the house.

After watching him walk off, MC looked over to see the confused girls and a somewhat disappointed Yuri. "Well... You just saw a Hunter. Kind of the wild ones in our group." He gave an awkward shrug. "Anyways, us Guardians are lead by the Vanguard, who are basically in charge for most of the things we do. We have the Titan Vanguard Zavala and Warlock Vanguard Ikora and they help keep everyone in place."

Natsuki spoke up. "Hey what about the Hunter Vanguard."

Cursor answered in a saddened tone. "He's no longer with us... Cayde-6 was our Hunter Vanguard until he and his Ghost were murdered by the man known as Uldren Sov..." The atmosphere in the room changed, Cursor had growled when he mentioned the name of the murderer.

After a moment of silence, Monika spoke up again wanting to bring up something Cursor had said. "When you talked about Ghosts, I can't help but notice that he said something finding and resurrecting their chosen. Can you explain that some more?"

MC and Cursor would look at eachother for a good while before turning their attention back to the girls. MC let out a sigh and began to explain. "For someone to become a Guardian... They had to be already dead by the time their Ghost finds them."

Sayori's eyes widened. "No... That can't be right, that means you were already..."

"Yeah..." MC replied blankly.

"Well that's a dumb rule... Why not just have someone who's still alive?" Natsuki asked.

"I agree, I find it strange that the requirement needed for one to be a Guardian has to be... rather morbid. Even so, is there a reason for that rule?" Yuri added.

MC scratched the back of his head. "Well... I like to think it's so that people who got resurrected have an easier time accepting their role as a Guardian and to dedicate their new lives to it."

"Well that's kind of lame, here I was thinking I could find myself one of these Ghosts and have cool space powers." Natsuki grumbled to herself.

"There have been a few rare exceptions, the Man with the Golden Gun became a Guardian through some unusual means." Cursor said in hopes of cheering the pinkette up. "There's also the fact you'd need to find a Ghost that's willing to work with you too."

"What about the people from their past life like friends and family? Wouldn't they say something about this?" Sayori asked with a concerned look.

MC shook his head. "It's considered taboo to bring up a Guardian's past life... I should mention that when someone gets revived for the first time, they lose all their memories. Essentially starting off as a blank slate..."

"So that explains why you didn't recognize me..." Sayori's head drooped down.

"Sorry about that, but it's something I can't really control. If it helps, a Guardian's personality tend to resemble the person they were before." MC said reassuringly.

Sayori would raise her head and stare at MC. While she did feel hurt from the revelation, she was at least grateful that he still acted like the MC she knew before. "Yeah, I can definitely see that. I'm happy that I can still call you MC." She smiled at him, making the Warlock blush slightly.

After composing himself, he spoke again. "Oh and on the bright side, I technically get to be immortal. As long as a Guardian's Ghost is still alive, then they can be revived from most deaths with their memories intact. The memory wipe thing only happens when you first become a Guardian."

"Not to sound rude or anything, but if the Traveler had all of this power, why would it need to have Guardians? Shouldn't it be capable of dealing with any threat that comes?" Yuri asked.

"If it were that simple then I wouldn't be here right now. Plus from what I heard, us Guardians were more or less the last resort of the Traveler since it got heavily damaged from it's greatest enemy, and that there are other threats to take note of." MC responded. He then looked over at Cursor, clearing his throat. "Would you mind?"

"Of course not, a little visualization does help." Cursor replied. Soon a small beam came out of his eye as a hologram formed over on the table. It displayed several alien-looking creatures alongside the machine they encountered earlier.

"Alright, let's start from left to right. This one is a Fallen, an alien species known as Eliksni that 'fell' from grace and wish to go back to their former glory. Not all of them are bad." MC said as he pointed at the humanoid alien that had multiple arms.

"They kind of remind me of spiders..." Natsuki said with a hint of distaste in her voice.

"Hey now, when you meet a friendly one, you realized they're no different from any of us. There's also the Scorn, basically undead Fallen." MC replied, he then pointed over to the much bulkier humanoid alien covered in armor. "This is a Cabal, very big angry space rhinos that are willing to go to war with almost anything that stands in their way."

"They sound like very big meanies, have they ever tried being friendly?" Sayori added.

Cursor answered her this time. "Well just recently their Empress had some negotiations with our own leader."

"I guess that's good to hear, it's nice to make a lot of friends whether they're an alien or not." Sayori replied

"Yeah, peace would be nice... Anyways now this thing." MC pointed over to humanoid alien that had a more creepy appearance, having armor that looked like bone while also looking rather misformed. "This is a Hive, kind of like a space undead except competent with weapons and messed up ability to conduct very disturbing experiments on living test subjects."

"To think something like that exists..." Yuri said silently.

"Very scary stuff really." MC pointed over to the robot, "And that right there is a Vex, something you're familiar with. Those things run thousands upon millions of simulations to guarantee that they win. Hell they could trap people in those simulations and even erase people from existence, which might have happened to you if it weren't for me."

Monika felt her heart sink, she had already felt the pain of being deleted in many cycles and resets of the game. The fact that there was something is reality capable of doing that shook her to the core.

"Then there's the oldest threat, the Darkness... A mysterious force that opposes the Traveler and was the reason why it was in a terrible state that lead to us Guardians and Ghosts." Cursor brought up a new hologram, showing off black Pyramids.

"And that right there is what we defend humanity from. It's an ongoing battle but we inspire hope for the future for everyone in the Last City." MC said.

"Last City?" Yuri asked.

"It's what it says in the name. The Last City is the last place on Earth we could call a home. Ever since everything else was practically wiped out..." MC looked down.

Yuri covered her mouth while the other girls were in shock. "T-That's awful... I'm sorry for bringing it up..."

MC shook his head, "It's fine, it's a reminder of our duties as Guardians to keep the peace.

Monika raised her hand. "I'm sorry can I be excused for a bit?"

MC nodded. "Sure, this is a big revelation so I don't blame you. Same goes for the rest of you, we'll stop the explanations for now."

Monika smiled as she walked off into one of the rooms hoping for some peace, Natsuki and Yuri just sat in place, pondering over what they listened to. Sayori on the other hand had her eye on Monika...

I'll be honest I kind of dreaded writing this chapter because I wasn't sure how I wanted to go at explanations without going overboard. Well as a fun question, what type of Guardians would the Dokis be?

Anyways thanks for reading and be sure to write down reviews so I know how to improve!
