2: when you accidentally release a demon from its prison.
The first thing that Lucy noticed was all of the scars decorating the pink guy's body. The scars seemed to be made from different things. Some of them obviously looked like he was stabbed. Others looked more like he was cut. The rest, she couldn't tell how they were made.
What did this guy go through...? She wondered.
Her eyes carefully trailed down his body. The lower she went, the more in pain she imagined him to be. When her eyes landed on something they shouldn't have, she quickly covered them. "Can you...like...put on some clothes...or something...?"
She got no answered.
Her eyes peaked out a little from behind her hands to see what the pink guy was doing. He happened to be looking around the place with awe. What was so great about her room though? Because of his book, her room was trashed. It's a miracle that her dormmates didn't come in to see what was going on. She was pretty sure whatever had just gone down was loud enough to get a noise complaint from the whole city.
"You...uh..." Lucy trailed off. She didn't know his name.
"Natsu Dragneel. I'm a demon," the guy answered without looking at her. He had discovered a mini fridge and was currently sticking his head into the fridge.
"Okay...I see...hold up. A demon!?" Lucy cried.
Shit. This gotta be a lie, right? Right!? No, this is not a lie. This actually makes sense. The talismans and everything? Oh shit...this demon was sealed away...but I set him free! She frantically thought.
Natsu stood up and grabbed Lucy's black oversized bathrobe. Then, he casually tied the belt around his waist. "So this is legit. I'm free...?"
I need to get him back in that book. Where is it!? Lucy thought, looking around her room from where she was sitting.
"Sweet! I'm free!" Natsu cried.
The book! Lucy thought. It was still on the coffee table. But then she gasped. It was fading away into dust. Nonononononononononono! She frantically thought as she crawled over to the book.
"Freedom!" Natsu yelled, jumping out the window.
Lucy blinked. A demon just jumped out of my window. Then she stood up. "A demon just jumped out of my window!"
She quickly put on a pair of white tennis shoes. The minute she opened her front door, however, she saw that she had guest who were standing in front of the door. The guests present at this hour were Levy, Erza, Juvia, and Cana.
"We heard all of the noise! Is everything okay!?" Juvia asked.
"Did your place get broken into?" Erza asked.
"What!? A robbery!?" Cana cried.
"I don't think that was it judging by how the place looks," Levy said.
Lucy bowed. "Can you guys watch my room for me? Would be greatly appreciated if you cleaned it for me! Just don't let Mirajane know and I guess Lisanna cuz she'll tell Mirajane! I'll explain everything later!"
"What's in it for us?" Cana asked.
"I'll...uh..." Lucy didn't have time for this. She had to catch a demon. "Y'all decide! Bye!" She ran past them and out of Fairy Hills. The minute she was outside, she looked around to see if she could remember which way Natsu had run in.
"Think! If I were a demon...where would I go!? Ugg this is so annoying!" She groaned, ruffling her hair in irritation. She decided to just fuck it and run left. Right is for the "holy." Left is for the "unholy."
She eventually arrived at the park. "Okay. Nice. The park. Why the fuck would a demon be at a park!?" She yelled at herself.
Two girls holding ice cream cones walked past her.
"Why was that guy wearing a bathrobe?" One of the girls asked.
"I don't know, but he's so hot!" The other girl cried.
Found him, Lucy thought before running in the direction the girls were coming from.
For some reason, even though it was almost midnight, there was an ice cream truck still operating. Natsu happened to be enjoying a cookies and cream ice cream in a little cup.
"I'll let you continue to get ice cream for free if you agree to stay here. You're face has been attracting so many female customers," the owner of the ice cream truck said.
"Ooh! What's that!?" Natsu cried before running off in super speed.
Lucy had just arrived at the ice cream truck when Natsu ran away. "Are you fucking...!?" She ran in the direction he ran in.
Apparently, he had discovered the town fair that was opened for a few weeks.
"Ticket to enter?" one of the guards asked him when he arrived at the fair's entrance.
Natsu completely ignored the guard and entered the fair.
"Hey! Get back here!" The guard yelled, running after him.
A few minutes later, Lucy arrived at the entrance.
"Ticket to enter?" a guard asked her.
"What!? But I don't have time for that! Besides, I'm only here to look for someone!" Lucy cried.
The guard stood his ground. "Ticket to enter."
Usually, Lucy would be able to stay calm and tell the guard off. However, she was currently panicking, as she should be. She accidentally released a demon from his book and he's now in the fair. Nobody would be able to stay clam in her situation.
Meanwhile, in the fair, Natsu was walking around with a stick of pink cotton candy in his hands. "Damn...! Everything's so bright!"
The street vendors were selling all types of food and some were offering games. Then there were places such as the carousel and the ferries wheel. "Which one should I try first...?"
"Hey! Pinkie!" The security guard from earlier cried, running towards him.
Natsu turned around and pointed at himself. "Me?"
"You're under arrest!" The guard cried before pulling out his walkie talkie. "I need backup. I repeat. I need backup."
Back at the entrance, Lucy was sitting down, criss cross, with her arms crossed. "I'm not moving here until you let me in."
"Okay, then you're gonna be here for a while, miss!" The guard cried.
Natsu, with his hands in handcuffs walked right past them. There were 2 police officers on each side of him.
How the fuck did he get himself arrested!? Actually, I'm not surprised, Lucy thought.
Natsu was put into the police car and the car drove away.
"Shit! I might lose him!" Lucy cried, standing up. She started to sprint after the car. However, this was car against human. The car obviously won. Lucy, who was completely out of breath, flagged down a taxi which took her to the police station.
At the police station, Natsu was sitting at a desk as the police tried to confirm his identity.
"Who are you?" The officer asked.
"I'm a demon," he answered as he played with the roll of tape on the table. It was so satisfying. All he had to do was pull on the sticky tape and it would stretch for miles.
"You're a demon alright. I'm serious. Who are you?" The officer asked.
Natsu looked up from his tape and shot the officer a dark look. "I told you. I'm a demon. Fear me."
"Do you think that's going to scare me!? Did you know that I've served in a war before!? I've seen more scarier shit than you!" The officer cried.
Natsu, who could honestly care less about what was going on, went back to playing with his roll of tape.
"And give me that damn tape!" The officer yelled.
Natsu simply headbutted the officer, sending him flying.
Everyone in the station stopped what they were doing and stared at Natsu in silence. Then, a full minute later, they took out their guns and pointed them at him.
Outside of the police station, Lucy stepped out of the taxi and ran into the police station. "What...the...fuck..." She mumbled when she entered the station.
Everyone, officers and criminals alike, were all kneeling on the ground, looking down, and had their hands covering the backs of their heads. Natsu was sitting on top of one of the desks where a whole pile of pistols were sitting. He was holding a pistol himself, but he wasn't pointing it at anyone. He was pointing it at himself as he fiddled with the gun.
"The fuck is this...?" Natsu wondered out loud.
At least he has the safety on, Lucy thought.
"Miss, is he with you!?" One of the officers asked.
"Um, yeah," Lucy answered.
"Take him! We don't want him here!" Another officer cried.
"Gladly," Lucy said.
Natsu took off the safety of the gun he was holding and pointed it at one of the officers. Everyone started shaking and one guy peed on himself.
"He's a demon! This guy is definitely a demon!" The officer cried.
Lucy sighed and crossed her arms. "Okay, Natsu. You've had your fun. Let's go."
The minute Natsu saw Lucy, his eyes grew wide and he dropped his gun. He slowly slid off the desk and walked towards her. "No way...this can't be real...!"
Once he was standing in front of her, he lightly cupped her cheeks and put his forehead to her forehead. He closed his eyes. "It worked!" He whispered.
Lucy, on the other hand, was completely confused. However, her confusion was set aside when Natsu pulled her in for a kiss. Or at least attempted to. She slapped him across the face before she grabbed him by the ear and dragged him away.
"Owowow! What was that for!?" Natsu yelled as they went outside.
"You've got lots of explaining to do! Like right now! What do you mean by 'it worked!?' What worked!?" Lucy cried.
"You don't remember? Do you even remember who I am!?" Natsu cried.
"Yes! You're a demon that I accidentally set free but don't worry, you're going back to where you belong somehow!" Lucy cried.
"Back in that book!? I can't go back in there! Do you wanna know what that book did to me!?" Natsu cried, yanking Lucy's hand off his ears.
Lucy turned around to face him. "No, I don't wanna kno-" Natsu had taken off his bathrobe. However, all of the cuts were gone. Instead, his skin was clear and practically glowing.
"Natsu! Put the robe back on!" Lucy cried.
"Shit, I forgot that I can heal myself as long as I'm conscious. But still. My point is that I can't go back in there!" Natsu cried as he tied his bathrobe back on.
Lucy held her hand out to flag down a taxi.
Natsu studied her from where he was standing. "You're her, right?"
"I'm her?" Lucy repeated.
Natsu walked over to her and studied her face. Lucy backed up. "Um...ever heard of personal space?"
She continued to back up as Natsu moved closer to her. Eventually, she was on the road and was about to get ran over by a speeding car when Natsu grabbed her arm and yanked her back to safety. Then, he pulled her to his chest and wrapped his arms tightly around her. "You are her. Only she has this scent."
Lucy tried to pull away but Natsu wouldn't budge. In defeat, she just let him hug her but she didn't hug him back. She didn't want to admit it, but she felt warm in his arms. But maybe she's feeling that way since it was cold outside. When she heard the taxi arrive, she pushed him away. "Taxi's here."
During the taxi ride, Natsu wouldn't stop looking at Lucy. Eventually, Lucy grew irritated. "Can't you look somewhere else?"
"I still can't believe it worked...!" Natsu cried.
"Well, whatever it is, it worked. Can you stop staring at me now? It's making me uncomfortable," Lucy responded.
Natsu continued to stare at Lucy. Even when they were out of the taxi and were walking to Fairy Hills, he wouldn't stop staring at her.
She sighed. "Have we met before?"
"Yeah," Natsu answered before smiling. "I remember exactly how we met."
"Can you tell me?" Lucy asked.
"I got into some trouble with some guys in the heavenly realm so I had to hide out in the human realm for a while. I went to this empty house in the woods and thought I was alone. But then, you showed up." He closed his eyes and thought back to their first time meeting.
Natsu yelled as he fell out of the sky. "Ahhhhhhhhh! Why can't I stop falling!?" A second later, he landed face first onto the ground. When he stood up, he found that he was in a forest filled with all sorts of plants and animals.
"I hate nature," he grumbled before sneezing. Then he realized something. "They know I hate nature. This place would be the last place they would look!"
He ran through the forest to find a place for him to hide out in for a while. That was when he arrived at an empty house in the middle of the forest. "Is this abandoned?" He wondered out loud as he entered the house.
It looked like someone had once lived there. There was barely any furniture and everything was neatly put in place. "I guess I'll stay here."
For 3 weeks, Natsu lived in the abandoned house in the woods. He hunted down some of the nearby animals, cooked them using his fire magic, and ate them. He cleaned the house whenever the wind blew in unwanted plants and dust. When it rained, he closed the windows and sat in front of a fire made by his magic. It was a peaceful 3 weeks. He didn't have to worry about the politics of the heavenly realm. He even thought for a while that he was the only person left in the world, possibly the whole universe.
Then one day, a woman with golden hair caught him napping under a nearby tree.
He sensed someone was watching him so he opened up an eye. "Do you wanna die?"
"Do you?" She asked him.
Natsu glared at her. "How dare you talk back to me?"
"I got every right to. You're trespassing on my property," the woman said, glaring back at him.
"So this dump is your place?" Natsu asked.
"If you really feel that way about my beautiful home, then leave," the woman said.
"I'm not leaving. You should though," Natsu said.
"And why should I leave my own house?" The woman asked.
"Do you not know who I am?" Natsu asked.
"No, and it's not any of my business," the woman answered.
"You're gonna want to leave when you hear about who I am," Natsu said.
"I'm so scared," the woman said sarcastically as she stood up and walked into the house.
Natsu stood up. "Stay away from my house!"
"It's my house! Go back to whatever hole you crawled out of!" She yelled back.
"We kept on fighting over who gets to live in the house so we ended up living together. That woman was you," Natsu said.
"...right. Look. I've never lived in a house in the woods before. Sorry. You got the wrong girl," Lucy said.
"This happened years ago. Like, a bunch of years back. There weren't any cars, or ice cream, or skyscrapers back then," Natsu said.
"Right," Lucy said sarcastically. Something must have been done to his head or something.
"Things were so peaceful back then. I would go out to get some food or something and you would tend to the house. We was like some married couple or something," Natsu said.
"Right," Lucy repeated. He genuinely believes this bullshit.
Natsu frowned. "Then you just had to up and die."
"So it's my fault I died?" Lucy asked, raising an eyebrow. This story keeps on getting ridiculous by the second.
"I was going to take you to the heavenly realm so you could live eternally but before that could happen, I had to resolve my issues with a bunch of people. I don't know how long I was gone since time works differently but when I got back, I found that you were murdered by the people in the kingdom that we were in," he said.
"Yikes," Lucy answered. I'm no longer going to try to bring logic into this.
"So, I killed every last person in that kingdom. Even the women and children.," Natsu said as if it were nothing.
"Okay, so let's say this story is true. You said I died, right? So how am I here talking to you?" Lucy asked as they approached the front doors of Fairy Hills.
"I brought you back to life. Duh. Went through so much shit to do that too. Took how many years? Don't matter. The fact that you're standing here means it worked," Natsu answered.
"Okay. Wow. Nice story, but it's not good enough for me to feel sorry and not put you back into that book," Lucy said.
Natsu grabbed her arm. "So you really don't remember."
Lucy pushed his hand off her arm. "Can you stop with all the touching?"
"Let's go to Tenrou Island," Natsu suddenly said.
Lucy blinked. "Tenrou Island?"
"I know someone there who could get your memories back," Natsu said.
"Mavis Vermillion, goddess of life. Her gravestone is on the island but she's not dead. She's alive and she's busy writing people's fates," Lucy said.
A big smile grew on Natsu's face. "So you know!"
"Dumbass, everyone knows. It's a fairy tale that they tell kids," Lucy said.
"You have to go to the island to see for yourself," Natsu said.
"I've been there. Nothing special. It's just a place for tourists," Lucy said.
"But she's there! She and I go way back so she'll definitely get your memories back!" Natsu cried.
"Has it hit you that I don't want my memories back?" Lucy asked.
Natsu's smile dropped. "...what?"
Lucy hugged herself to shield herself from the cold. "To be honest, I don't believe in all this. You know, about how we once knew each other and how I died and shit? But let's say that there's a chance that all of this is actually real. Okay. That's nice, but that was then. I'm living my life now and I'm actually happy with my life. I'm living my dream as a journalist and I have all of these people around me that care about me and I care about them. Why would I want to remember a life that happened hundreds, maybe thousands of years ago?"
"You...don't want to remember me?" Natsu carefully asked.
Guilt rushed through Lucy's body. "No."
There was a long silence between them. However, the silence was broken when the front doors of Fairy Hills flew open.
Lucy and Natsu quickly looked away at each other and faced the entrance of Fairy Hills. There was Mirajane and although she wore a smile on her face, the aura that surrounded her was basically screaming at them to run.
"Hi Lucy!" Mirajane said before looking at Natsu. "Oh dear...looks like we have an unwanted visitor." She narrowed her eyes. "I'll deal with it swiftly."
