Hinata's body was not changing in the ways she had been told it would. No extra raw chakra, no soreness or swelling, no pain. Perhaps a firmness of her abdomen unexplained by muscle. She had been told, too, that she probably wouldn't experience morning sickness if it was not present from the start.
Almost certainly, had been the exact phrase.
She lifted her head up from where it had been resting on the bathtub and groaned. It was noon. She had tried to eat a cabbage roll. The smell of it had made her feel a little off before the first bite, but everything was making her feel a little off now.
The taste of cabbage refused to fade from the back of her tongue. She pulled the palm of her hand down her cheek and laughed. Somehow, she almost wanted to need a new bra.
There was a soft tap at the door frame, even though the door was ajar.
"Are you...okay?" Itachi asked, in a hush.
She folded herself up a little more. "Kind of. Maybe."
"You were, um, throwing up."
She twisted her head to look at him. She was too tired to use byakugan for something so small. His arms were crossed, fingers twitching. He looked a little lost.
"I...heard it," he said, studying the floor.
She blurted, "We can't have cabbage anymore."
His expression froze. "Oh."
"I'm sorry, " she mumbled. "It just…"
"It's. It's okay."
He exhaled in a single huff, and knelt beside her. Heat washed across the middle of her face.
"I was about to make some tea. Would you...like some?"
She nodded.
"Alright." He swallowed. A bit of a cringe flitted across his lips. "Is there, ah, anything else - that I could help with?"
"Um...I don't think so…"
She gripped the lip of the bathtub and drew herself up. She inhaled, deeply, and sighed it all out.
She turned just as he stood. "I'll be down in a bit. That's uh, it's...Thank you. "
