Chapter fifteen

It made her heart happy to know their team was behind them and supporting them through this, and it meant even more to her that none of them treated her any differently since she had been the one to end their marriage to start with.. She had kept in touch with Steve and Danny every so often once her and Adam's marriage was over, but she did sometimes dodge their calls as she felt they would be disappointed in her and she felt ashamed she hadn't been able to keep her marriage together..

Looking at her parents, they were still together.. Even though her mother needed full time care, the love her father had for her mother never wavered, and she felt a failure as a wife that she had let her job become more important then her marriage to Adam.. Even Chin's mother, her Aunt… she had never remarried or met anyone else after her Uncle had been killed, and she wondered why she couldn't have just done more on her marriage..

Instead she let her emotions get to her and while she never would regret spending time on the task force on the sex-traffiking ring, she also realised now she had become fixated on it, and had made it her personal crusade to shut them all down.. It had been at a time in her life when she thought she was pregnant and even took a pregnancy test, and it just scared her to no end to think that if she had a daughter, it could have easily been her child one day that was forced into the trauma those girls went through.

On the other hand, at that time, she knew Adam would make an amazing father and part of her felt like she needed to let him go so he could find someone who could give him a family, but now.. standing there announcing she was pregnant to her team, she was happy that her and Adam were able to work through there issues and reconcile.. Being back in Hawaii, she felt more at home and relaxed than she had been in months.

"Penny for your thoughts Mrs Noshimuri?', Adam asked as he handed her a cup of tea later that night as they sat in the apartment that he had brought after his marriage break up.. She wondered if he would stay in the house they lived in together when they were married, and honestly, as beautiful as it was.. It was nice to be in the apartment, being able to see the their island from the balcony, enjoying the breeze it gave them overlooking the city and beyond.. He had kept the house, he hadn't sold it but he hadn't been able to live in it either since their marriage crumbled.

She smiled softly, and took the cup from him, sitting on the couch in just some sweats and one of her loose fitting tops, she made room for him as he came to sit beside her with his own cup of hot steaming tea in his hand, "I'm just thinking about how everyone is being so supportive of us, and the baby", she rubbed her stomach looking down at her slight swell, and bit her lip.. "I'm also thinking how we first met all those years ago when you were looking for your father and accusing Joe White of murder".

Chuckling, he smiled and leaned in, kissing her temple softly, "I was a very different man back then and not at all how I'd handle something like that now, but it brought us together so I can't regret my actions too much, otherwise I may never have met you, and may never have been embraced by the whole team like I have been".

~ Flash Back ~2011

Talking to Duke about a case, Kono was at HPD when Joe White was arrested and brought in, that's how Steve got wind of it, as Kono was the one to call her boss about it.. However just after she hung up from speaking with McGarrett, she saw Adam Noshimuri walk in to the building and in that moment, she nearly forgot to breathe.. He was in his suit and she was close enough to him that she could smell his cologne and aftershave and when they locked eyes, her legs nearly went to jelly.

She knew who he was, and that he was accusing her boss's former CO of murdering his father, and yet there was a part of her that was annoyed at him for involving Steve when he didn't really need to be involved, though the other part of her did empathise with him about wanting to find his father and wanting to know what happened to him as well. Her Uncle, Chin's father being killed years before, she understood the need to know what happened, she was close to her uncle as well and had always felt like she didn't have the closure she needed so she felt for Adam as well.

Before anything could be said, McGarrett came in asking to see Joe, and that brought her back and she left Steve and Adam to duke it out knowing that Steve wouldn't back down from anything, even if he was putting himself at the mercy of the Yakuza. She knew Steve so well now and he wasn't one to ever say no to, that was for sure, however she couldn't help but continue to casually gaze in his direction every so often, looking away whenever he looked in her direction.

It was another few weeks before they crossed paths again, yet this time Adam was now aware his father was alive, and that he was working quietly with Steve and Joe to take down Wo Fat.. Adam had noticed her several months before when his father had a court date for his involvement with kidnapping Mary McGarrett.. Though Adam had been willing to use the Yakuza to hunt down Joe White when he thought that he had kidnaped and killed his father, he didn't like knowing his father and Uncle had been involved with the kidnapping of the head of five-o's sister.

Adam had come to HQ to talk to Steve about the Wo Fat situation, however he wasn't there.. In fact, only Officer Kalakaua was there, the others were all out of the office. An officer had brought him up, and knocked on Kono's door to let her know he had Mr Noshimuri with him. She thanked the officer and told him to let Adam in, "So.. Mr Noshimuri, how can I help you?", she asked in a low voice as she sat back down at her desk after shaking his hand and introducing herself to him.

There was that chemistry again.. Although this time it was much stronger when they touched hands to shake, and she couldn't help but get butterflies in her stomach at the softness of his hands, her face going a little warm thinking about what those strong hands could do.. "I was hoping you could tell me when Commander McGarrett would be back, I have some urgent business to discuss with him".

"He should back in about an half an hour. He and Detective Williams have just gone to grab some lunch.. There is nothing I can help you with in the meantime?", she gazed at him curiously, knowing that she wanted to try to keep him around for longer, just so she could talk to him some more.. She hadn't really had a crush on a man in while, the last person she had a brief thing with was Ben Bass and that was mainly bonding over their shared grief of losing Ian, and so it hadn't lasted very long.. They were still friends, but both realised that the spark had long gone from their love affair of years ago.

He smiled and chuckled, "Well, in fact Officer Kalakaua, you could perhaps help me by going out to dinner with me tonight if you aren't busy". He was a man who knew what he wanted and he wasn't about to shy away from asking her out on a date.. "You mean on a date? Wouldn't that be weird, the head of the Yakuza having dinner with a cop?" was her answer to him, though she was smiling and blushing a little more.

While Adam knew that starting something with Kono would be something for people to talk about, he couldn't help the way he was feeling.. They had barely talked to each other and yet he just felt something in his heart that told him that Kono could be the one.. He never believed in love at first sight but upon seeing her for the first time, he truly believed it..

"We would have to keep a low profile for a while.. I'm trying to go legit and make my father's businesses legitimate and legal, and there will be people within the Yakuza that won't like I'm seeing a cop and I'm sure that your cousin, Detective Williams and Commander McGarrett won't be happy about it either but I have seen you.. heard amazing things about you…. I used to watch you surf in your competitions and I'd like to take you to dinner if that is something you would like to do".

Biting her lip, she smiled and giggled, nodding her head while her heart beat a little faster… "I'd like that a lot", she nodded her head more vigorously as she thought more about it, and then she blushed more as she realised something else he said.. "Wait.. You used to watch me in my surf comps?", her eyes a little wider now. He chuckled and smiled, "I did.. and I wondered what happened when I stopped hearing your name around the surfing circuit but then when I saw you at HPD a few weeks ago, I realised you traded your surfboard for a badge and a gun, and I gotta say that… well that intrigued me a lot".

She heard voices and then noticed the boss and Danny walking in, "Well, perhaps then.. I might share how I went from pro surfer to a law enforcement officer and part of the task-force tonight". Standing up, she smiled softly as he answered, 'I'd really like that Officer". Just as the boys walked in, she stepped out of her office, and called out to Steve, "Boss?", when he turned around, he noticed Adam standing there and stopped in his tracks, "Mr Noshimuri has stopped by to see you".

Adam noticed the change in her demeanour, her voice had lost that flirty tone and had been replaced by a more professional tone, "Thanks Kono". Before he walked completely out of her office, he very secretly handed her a piece of paper with his personal private number on it, and a note to say to text him when he left McGarrett's office, "Adam.. how about we head into my office".

~Back to the present ~

"I don't think I ever told you.. but I once thanked Joe White . for bringing you into my life.. If it wasn't for him, I might not ever have met you and become a member of five-o and become one of Steve's most trusted friends, and your husband". He smiled as she leaned into him and kissed him softly, remembering that moment, and how she just knew in that one little moment that he was who she had wanted to be with.. That night was even better..

Though they didn't have sex that first date, he ended up taking her to one of the most secluded places on the island, one of his families homes they owned and they talked all night, and she did tell him about how she blew out her knee and the challenges she had to overcome to get back on a board again, and that she knew her pro career was over the moment she injured herself.. and that she decided to change her career and follow in her cousin's footsteps..

Adam let her in on the fact that he never really understood the need to become a member of the Yakuza and only did so out of respect and partially fear of repercussions from his father if he didn't… He grew up in Japan for majority of his childhood but his father moved them all the way to Hawaii when he was fourteen years of age and while he spoke english as a second language, it had been hard to feel like he would ever fit in at the private all boy school he went to on the island of O'ahu..

Surfing was his way of fitting in, and the moment he saw Kono surf, he knew he wanted to get to know her, but hadn't ever managed to be in her presence till now.. He had always felt guilty in a way of not wanting to take over the family business and be involved with the Yakuza like his father and brother was, however he felt too ashamed to do anything but follow on in his father's footsteps but now Kono had entered his life, he finally felt like he had a reason to step up and say no to the destiny his father had created for him..

"You know.. I meant it that day when you came home from dealing with the aftermath of nearly drowning and helping Chin and five-o hunt down the man that nearly killed you and murdered your cousin's wife.. You saved me the day we met… when you told me what you had to do mentally and physically to go from wanting to be a pro surfer to realising you couldn't and changing your career to become a cop, you showed me that I had the strength to change my own destiny.. It's why I had really begun to look into how to change my father's business holdings to legitimate organisations.. Because of you… and the faith you had in me even when we had only just met".

She smiled and gazed into his eyes, lacing her fingers with his, "I'll always have faith in you and so will five-o.. I know you felt like when we split that you wouldn't have five-o around, that they would automatically not speak to you or not want to be around you, but you have to know.. You have made a lasting impression on them.. especially Steve and Danny and I know how Steve has stood up for you time and time again.. I know there was some lost trust earlier when all the Yakuza stuff happened earlier this year, but I think you are slowly regaining his trust back.. they are your family as well Adam, never forget that.. I might have joined five-o first but they will always have your back too".

She stood up and smiled, holding her arm out for him to take, "Now, why don't we get some shut eye.. I dunno about you, but I'm tired". He nodded as he stood up and took her hand, walking hand in hand to the bedroom as they continued to talk about their first date, Kono's head resting on his shoulder, feeling more safe and relaxed then she had in a long time.

Author Notes:

Thanks for all the love on the last chapter.. I am sorry it has taken me so long to get an update on this one, but with my busy work schedule and sometimes getting a bit of writers block, it has taken me some time to decide where to go next.. I hope you all liked the flash back of my interpretation of their first offical meeting.. We never really found out how exactly they crossed paths and met.. When Steve was dealing with the Joe White/Hiro Noshimuri issue, Kono was not really involved in it so I'll admit it threw a curve ball at me to see her suddenly in the shower with him, so I have always wanted to get an idea in my head of how they actually met, and this to me is plausible.. Especially with Adam knowing who she was from her surfing days and being a fan.

SteveMcGarrettlover:

I agree, Kono and Adam are my second favourite couple on the show after Steve and Catherine. I wanted to stay true to the story and have her leave him, but then realise they belong together.. I really hope at the end of the second season of Magnum when he helps Thomas keep Higgy on the island, the wedding band he is wearing is because he and Kono reconciled, not because he and that Tamiko got married..

Hattaya antapun:

Cute interpretation of her giving birth, I can't wait till I get to that point in my writing on this story..

Guest:

Thanks for reading and reviewing, I am glad you have enjoyed it, and this is my perfect ending for them too.. I mean if I had it my way, they never would have separated however I think a little time apart to work out they belong together is not all bad as well. I hope you find this new chapter and read it as well.. I enjoyed writing it.
