Chapter sixteen

A few months later.. June 2020

Standing on the balcony of their apartment, Kono hadn't been able to slept. She was now 12 weeks pregnant and their unborn baby had been giving Kono a rough time, kicking and moving around. He or she was a born Kalakaua-Noshimori, already active in the womb.

Her morning sickness was getting no better either and her and Adam had been up most of the night, and now she was standing on the balcony looking out at the city she had missed when she was away, taking in the sweet smells of the ocean that was unmistakably O'ahu and sighed happily.

Despite feeling unwell, she knew this is where she was meant to be and where her life was meant to be as well. How could she ever think that she didn't belong here with Adam and her Ohana. She didn't hear Adam was awake till she felt his lips on her shoulder and his arms wrapping around her body, rubbing her stomach protectively. "How about you stay here in bed and rest today, I'll tell Steve you aren't feeling well".

Before she could protest, and say anything, he continued, "You need your strength Kono and you are entitled to a day off when you are unwell, and do you really want to be at work when you feel like throwing up all the time?" She considered that and it was looking bleak out there and overcast, and she realised a day at home in bed or on the couch was making more sense now be mentioned it.

She turned in his arms and faced him, moving her arms up to his neck as she kissed him softly, "Maybe you are right", she whispered still feeling really sleepy and exhausted, and sore from using all different muscles to throw up. "How about you? You wanna play hooky with me", she smirked and giggled softly despite her tiredness.

As much as he wanted to stay home with Kono, and take care of her, he was still trying to win the trust back of his team and especially Steve and Lou. Danny's faith in him never truly wavered but he knew he betrayed Steve and Lou the most so he knew that he needed to go to work and keep working on his building up his relationships with the team. "I'd love to but I should get to work, I know I still have a ways to go with Steve and even Lou, but how bout I bring home something nice for dinner?", he whispered as he kissed her softly.

She nodded, understanding his situation and kissed him back, "Mmm sounds good to me Mr Noshimuri". She hugged him tighter and then pulled away a little to look at him, "You do know that Steve, Lou and the rest of the team will forgive you and things will be okay. You know Steve and though he has a tough exterior, he has been through a lot and I know he doesn't want to lose another member of his Ohana, so I know you two will be fine babe".

He hummed in appreciation of her words and smiled softly, "I know, and he has had my back this whole time, even when I had Joe kidnapped to find my Dad, and I wanted to kill Wo Fat for killing my father, he always had my back. I just want him to know everything I did was for five o". He paused for a moment and kissed her temple, "How about a cook you breakfast before I leave for work?"

Scrunching her face up as she can't her stomach turn a little, she sighed softly, knowing she should eat but also knowing she most likely would throw it up later, "just something light, some toast maybe and a cup of tea?, you should eat something babe", he responded to her facial expression without her needing to say a word. Nodding her head, she smiled.. "Okay, I'll try some toast and see if that stays down".

As he began to make her some toast, Kono settled into the couch and wrapped the blanket around her as she switched on the tv and turned on Netflix. She loved how attentive Adam was, and it was scary in a good way to her how she was so easily compliant to what he said. If it was her mother or father or even Chin, she would have still gone to work on an empty stomach but Adam knew how to get through to her in a way no one else could.

Later that day…

Kono was sound asleep on the couch when she heard a knock on the door. Sitting up, she wiped her hair out of her face and then moved to stand up, and groaned at how the sudden movement made her stomach growl unhappily. Answering the door, she wasn't expecting to see Adam's ex girlfriend he was seeing during their separation.

"Ohh. Hi there Tamiko, I'm sorry but Adam isn't here at the moment, he is at work". Kono knew that Adam hadn't had any contact with her and so this was a little surprising to say the least. Tamiko looked a little nervous but smiled softly hearing the kindness in Kono's voice. "Actually it's you I wanted to talk to Kono if are feeling up to it".

That surprised Kono even more but she smiled and nodded her head, opening up the door for Tamiko to enter. "Sure, come on in". After offering Tamiko a cup of coffee, and she had made the coffee and tea for herself, they sat down on the couch, Kono sipping on her tea, happy her stomach was settled a bit more now. The room was filled with tension, the two women that loved Adam sitting in silence for a moment, Kono finally breaking the silence speaking softly.

"So, you wanted to talk to me, I'm a little surprised to say the least".

Tamiko sipped on her coffee and then moved the mug back onto the coffee table and smiled softly, clasping her hands together nervously as she looked into Kono's eyes. "I'm not here to cause issues between you and Adam, I just want you to know Kono that I support you and Adam. I might have been falling for him but I'm grown up and mature enough to not ruin what you two have".

Leaning over, she then took Kono's hand in hers and squeezed it. "I know you don't want yourself or Adam to become involved with the Yakuza and I will respect that, I just wanted to let you know that while-ever I am in charge, you, Adam your unborn child and the five-o team will never be harmed".

Tilting her head, that really surprised Kono, hearing that Tamiko Masuda was the oyabun of the Hawaiian faction of the Yakuza. "Wait.. so you are the new oyabun, does Adam know about this?" Kono's words were soft and not accusatory at all. While she was hurt and jealous that she had been involved romantically with Adam, she wasn't the kind of woman to hold grudges against anyone, though she wouldn't hide this information from Adam so she hoped Tamiko wouldn't ask.

"Yes.. I know it's not usually a woman that takes over but the Yakuza in Japan decided after what happened with my father being killed by Kenji, that me taking over was best for now, and No, Adam doesn't know". She held out her hand and smiled softly, "I wouldn't ask you to hide that from Adam either so you can tell him.. I just wanted you to know that I'm happy for you and Adam and that I have no plans to get in the way of your marriage.. In fact, I actually left him before you even came back to the island".

She smiled as she continued holding Kono's hand, "Adam didn't talk much about you but only because I thought at the time that he is still in love with you. I could see the pain and hurt etched all over him. I'm not saying this to hurt you more but I just want you to know that he has never stopped loving you Kono, and I'll be honest.. I would like to be someone you can both lean on and talk to".

It made it easier for Kono knowing that, there was something very genuine in the way that Tamiko spoke and she believed her and more importantly she believed Adam when he said that he had only dated Tamiko for Yakuza reasons and because he had been trying to fill the hole in his heart left by Kono.

"I think that would be nice, I have girlfriends within the Ohana that I built over the years with five o but it would be good to have another friend as well, as long as you know that I'm not willing to be involved with anything Yakuza and that if HPD, or five o come across an investigation that involves Yakuza members, Adam and I can't help you or the organisation to evade trouble".

Kono had to be very clear with that, she wasn't going to allow anyone to use her or her husband to get themselves out of trouble with the law. Nodding her head, Tamiko smiled softly, "My father and his associates might have expected that kind of treatment but I assure you Kono, that is not who I am. I would never use a friendship for my benefit".

Coming to an understanding, both women sat and talked a little longer and Tamiko even helped clean and tidy the appartment while Kono rested and then slipped out of the appartments once Kono was had fallen asleep. She felt more at peace then she had in a long time. She might have lost her fiancé, her father and her boyfriend within a year, but she wasn't the kind of woman to ruin another woman's happiness.

She was looking at following in Adams footsteps though and taking at least the Hawaii faction of the Yakuza to a legitimate operation, where they could be respected. She wasn't sure how things would turn out for her but she was willing to do what she had to. She didn't want to see anymore blood spilt.

That evening, Adam came home and while she was nervous about bringing it up, she mentioned she had a visitor today and who it was.. "I'm glad you had a nice visit with her today. I do feel terrible about how I used her, but all I can do now is just try to move on from it all and learn from my mistake". Watching him, Kono smiled and snuggled into him on the couch, "I think she will be fine babe, and if we stay in her live, then perhaps she will see that she doesn't have to turn to the Yakuza way.. I also think she understands that you never stopped loving me but I also think she is really appreciative of the fact that you were there for her after her father was killed.. We all make mistakes, it's how we learn from them that matters so don't think too much of this".

While it was a rough time for them both, they were both glad to be back in each others arms and lives and learning from her mistake of letting Adam go once was something she was learning from as well, she had her husband back and she needed to remind herself each and every day how lucky she was that she got him back.

Author Notes:

I'm so sorry for the delay in this particular story, but I'm so glad to have another chapter up now. Having a full time job, spending time with my niece and nephew and writing all this in progress stories is not easy to juggle so I thank you all for your patience and support. I'm trying my best to get more of this in progress stories continued as quickly as I can.

Dimor:

Thanks for the review, I appreciate your kind words, and no fear not, It might take a long time to get these done, but I am not abandoning it. Kono and Adam are my second fav Hawaii five-o ship after Steve and Cath. I always felt it was a major gap that we never saw on screen Kono meet Adam and we never found out how they met. I hope you enjoy this chapter as well.

Hattaya Antapun:

I don't like seeing my characters cheating and I can't see that Kono would cheat on Adam or that if she did that Adam would forgive her for that either. I hope you like my version of this even though there is no cheating.
