Disclaimer - I don't own Voltron: Legendary Defender. I like writing Keith and Shiro as biological brothers and Ryo as his twin, yet I left this one open to interpretation as delving into that headcanon would take more away from the plot which was inspired by the movie prompt I got for this particular challenge - that of Resident Evil which reads, "A special military unit fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident."

Off-Beat Life

"This sounds like the synopsis of some horror movie," Keith muttered to nobody in particular as he stared at the wall opposite him as he leaned up against the counter he hid behind. Yet, in that same regard Keith found himself hunkering with two others he'd rather not be with given the fact the other two garrison cadets tended to bully him rather than ever help.

They were in fact the last two he'd want to ever be stuck fighting off a zombie attack, yet here he was one Halloween weekend when all of the other cadets went home for the weekend cowering behind a counter in one of the science labs the cadets used for learning about the practical application of science, or at least Adam told Keith on numerous occasions.

"No. This…"

"Shush," Lance muttered from beside him, holding a finger up to his lips. "The zombies might hear you."

"Yes, but…"

"Is there anything here that we can use against them," James asked from the other side.

Keith frowned, knowing full well there were dangerous chemicals within the room that—while they might prove an effective tool against zombies—could seriously hurt anybody playing a prank on them, though he'd not yet figured out why anybody would play such a cruel prank on them other than it was Halloween.

"No, seriously…"

"Shut up Keith." Lance lowered his voice. "There are a ton of chemicals in here."

"Yup. They went in that direction. And I think this is just a prank." Keith let out a sigh. "Look…"

"Well, yes. But."

"Can I say something?" Keith spoke louder.

Lance shushed him again, the sound he made attempting to hush Keith growing, but James let out a sigh.

"What?"

"As I said, this is like a synopsis out of some horror movie, right?"

"And?" James of course sounded irritated.

"I mean, Matt and Pidge's supercomputer supposedly going haywire and turning them and others including Hunk into flesh-eating zombies…"

"Don't remind me," Lance whimpered. "My best friend."

"It is exactly that though," Keith closed his eyes. "That's the actual synopsis of a horror movie called Resident Evil."

James paused. "And?"

"Don't you think the plot's a bit ludicrous?"

"Ludicrous?" Lance's voice strained. "We're talking a multi-million box-office horror movie with sequels! They wouldn't make a sequel if it weren't a success."

"For your information, there was actually no artificial intelligence in the games and just the T-virus."

James rolled his eyes. "Not surprised you're into that kind of crap."

"It's not crap. More specifically, it's not the supercomputer that's important to the plot."

"I don't get what you're getting at." James glared at him.

Keith sighed. "What I mean is the garrison isn't doing any sort of bizarre experiments which involves mutating animals and eventually people into zombies."

"You don't know that!" Lance hissed, becoming even more paranoid, much to Keith's irritation.

"Without that, the plot can't exist," Keith stated. "That's the plot we have here, not the actual plot from the movies."

"That…" James tilted his head. "It's not as if we have a way of getting into the stored chemicals without a teacher's help."

"That…" Lance looked as if he were about to cry, which made Keith let out a sigh just as the door of the science lab opened and moans of the zombies entering were heard. Taking a deep breath, he stood up, holding his hands up to surrender while Lance tugged on his pants leg.

"Okay. Enough is enough. Lance is wanting to get out the chemicals, but they're actually thinking of ways to cause serious bodily harm, but I know that this is a rip-off of the Resident Evil movies and a bad one at that."

At that, the three zombies looked at each other with a level of intelligence zombies shouldn't have. Hunk sighed. "Didn't Shiro warn that Keith would have us figured?"

"Yeah, but Adam surmised he'd have gone along with the prank," Matt muttered.

"You!" James stood up, pointing his finger at the three while Pidge hugged herself tightly to control the laughing. "What the hell did you do this for! You jerks!"

Pidge wiped a tear away, smudging her makeup slightly. "Well, neither one factored in Lance and James being crazy enough to try and use chemical warfare and other stuff on us which would mean Keith would need to intervene to make sure nobody got hurt."

"I didn't suggest using the chemicals! He did!" James pointed at Lance. "And what was this for?"

"To get you three to work together."

Keith glared at them. Lance stood up. "Never! And don't blame me for wanting to use the chemicals. You would have been with me on using them if only we could have gotten into them."

Keith frowned. "Shiro went along with this? I mean…" He looked at the ground. "I get Adam, but Shiro?"

"Looks like you're not Shiro's favorite anymore!" Lance folded his arms across his chest.

"Actually, Shiro vetoed it," Matt rubbed the back of his head.

"Wait. Does he actually know you guys went along with this plan?" James asked.

"Uh…" Hunk twiddled his thumbs.

"I knew it! You guys are horrible! And Adam's even more so for helping you! I mean, he's supposed to be an authority figure over you guys!"

"I'm going to bed," Keith muttered. In the back of his mind, he imagined Lance and James antagonizing him even more after today's episode, yet he wondered how Hunk would be fair given the fact he and Lance were best friends, supposedly.

"And what's this about getting us to get along! I don't want to get along with Keith! He's so stuck up, being Shiro's favorite and all!"

"I'm not Shiro's favorite," Keith muttered, stopping halfway around the counter.

"Sure seems like it to me," James muttered.

"Ryo is his favorite. Ryo's the one who doesn't mess up." Keith snapped, before turning on his heels. "As I said, going to bed."

Things didn't seem like they were going to get any better, so as Shiro told him to do numerous times, he was simply going to walk away and not let his anger get the better of him. He didn't want to even think that Adam, who now stood outside of the door of the room was in on the prank, nor did he look him in the eye.

When he got home, he collapsed onto the bed, muttering as he did so. "Things just get worse and worse, don't they?"
