Two years and six months after Day Three
One year later
Mexico City, Mexico
This was no ordinary street in Mexico City, far from it. It was one of the areas where the criminal underworld not only congregated but thrived. It was also where Alex and Nina found themselves, looking for information. Having heard of a third Salazar brother, they were meeting a contact who could help them get to him. Whilst it had now been over two years since the auction in Las Nieves, Nina wanted to be very sure of one thing. Ensuring that the Salazar family would no longer pose a threat to her.
They had spotted the contact and were making their way towards him when the first shots rang out. Chaos broke out around them, and it took a few moments before the siblings realised what was going on. Mexican federal agents had decided that now was a good time to raid the area, so the pair decided it was a good idea to hide. Using a car as cover, they pulled out their guns and began shooting at the agents. Alex was trying his best neither to kill or even injure any of them, but he knew it was a risk. Soon, others began shooting from their own hiding places as a street battle erupted. As bullets and Spanish curses littered the air, Alex and Nina decided it was best to get the hell out of there. Staying low as they made their way towards their car, they fired off a few shots before making a getaway.
Nina looked behind them as they sped away, annoyed at the sudden change in plans. She would have to rearrange the meeting, not an easy task with a skittish contact.
"Were they looking for anyone in particular?" Alex asked, glad that neither of them had actually hit any of the agents. The last thing they needed was the Mexican authorities gunning for them.
"Looked like a sweep of the neighbourhood to me, they do it every so often," Nina replied. The street's reputation as a criminal hub ensured that it was often monitored. She could only wonder why such a paranoid contact would want to meet in such a dangerous place.
Tony and Michelle's house, Los Angeles
Tony couldn't help but smile every time he looked at his baby children. The twins, Teri Paula and George Jack, were the most important parts of his life. He was stood next to their cot, watching as they slept.
"You two and your mommy mean the world to me," he whispered.
"You and your daddy mean the world to me too," Michelle spoke before she wrapped her arms around him. She gazed at her children and smiled. The twins were perfect to her, a symbol of hope for a happy future she knew they all deserved.
Tony turned around and kissed her. Soon enough, they were heading towards their own bed and losing their clothing along the way.
Myers' hideout, Mexico City
Nina threw the phone onto the table in anger. Not only had they been unable to meet her contact but he had also died in the street battle. Whatever information he had went with him, and she had no idea who to go to next. Tracking down this remaining Salazar was becoming something of an obsession of hers. All she knew of him was that his name was Esteban. As for the other two, she at least knew they were dead and of no threat to her. Although Hector's death had been shocking to her at the time, she hadn't felt any sympathy for him. His hot-headedness had gotten him killed by his own brother. She hadn't felt any sympathy for the other one, Ramon, either. His getting killed by a bomb meant for her had been amusing after he had failed to believe her. To her, they were both nothing more than small-time crooks trying to be something they weren't. The events of that violent night were still clear in her mind and would likely remain so for the rest of her life. Like every other time when she had almost lost her life at the hands of Jack Bauer. For a moment her brain tried to stick with thoughts of him, but she managed to push them away. The last thing she needed right now was to think about Jack. Her contacts had kept her informed about his whereabouts and she knew that he was no danger to her at that time.
Beach, Los Angeles
It was night in Los Angeles with a full moon shining in a clear sky above the city. Kim and Chase were walking along the beach, enjoying the mild breeze before they stopped to take a look at the moon. They stood in silence for a moment, before Chase decided that he had enough courage to do what he had planned.
"Kim? I've got something to ask you," he spoke, catching her attention. As she smiled at him, he kneeled down and looked straight into her eyes.
"It's a perfect night and you're my perfect woman. Kim, I love you so much, will you marry me?"
"Yes, Chase, I will!" She replied with tears in her eyes.
The two embraced before kissing with passion under the silver gaze of the full moon.
Myers' hideout, Mexico City
Alex was sat at the table, cleaning his gun. Nina had gone to bed, still contemplating what to do next about the remaining Salazar brother. His mind was on other things, including the shootout in the street. Had they put themselves on the radar of the Mexican authorities by taking part in the battle? Or had they done the opposite and obscured themselves enough? He looked over at the door, which was well secured, for a moment. They were planning to stay in Mexico for a while until the boss gave them new instructions. That meant he had to hope the authorities were unaware of their presence in the country. He didn't want to think about it, but he knew what the possibilities were. If they got caught in Mexico, they would face interrogation but it wouldn't be the end. Then it would be straight to Los Angeles and CTU and he knew what laid in wait there. It would of course be worse for Nina in many ways, but it would not exactly be pleasant for him either.
Jack's apartment, Washington, District of Columbia
He should have been asleep, but he was wide awake and sipping from a lukewarm cup of peppermint tea. It had been a year now since his heart attack, but every so often he would get a pain in his chest. Each time he would worry that it was another heart attack and each time he wondered if it would finally kill him. Despite the best efforts of so many enemies, would his own heart be the one to put an end to his life? Sighing, he finished off his tea before placing the cup in the sink. Making his way back to his bedroom, he hoped only that he would get to sleep soon. If he was to lie there awake, his mind would wander to the dark places and let the monsters out to play.
