Three years after Day Three
One year later
Apartment block, Mexico City, Mexico
"This is definitely where he lives?" Alex asked as they entered the upscale apartment block. They had finally tracked down the third Salazar brother and were ready for vengeance. Nina wanted it to be quick, yet long enough for him to know who they were and why they were going to kill him. Although Alex had been reluctant to play an active part, he felt an urge to disregard his worries. He wondered if it was because the Salazars had some part in Nina almost getting killed that night of the escape.
"Yeah, on the top floor," Nina confirmed as they entered the elevator. Getting there would be easy enough, it was the getting out of the area that would be the hard part. Their intel suggested that Salazar was alone in his apartment, but his men were likely not too far away.
CTU Los Angeles, Los Angeles
For the first time in several years, Milo Pressman was walking into the building. Back then, he had been a contractor but now he was a full CTU agent who had been working at the Denver office for some time. Walking into the bullpen, he noticed how different the place was since he had left. Michelle noticed him before approaching.
"Milo Pressman? I'm Michelle Dessler," she announced before they shook hands. Knowing his history with CTU, she had wondered why he would ever want to come back to the LA office but decided not to ask.
"Nice to meet you, Michelle," he replied. Moments later, he was sat down at a desk and looking around. He was noticing all the differences but he was very much aware of the one similarity. There was a mole once more inside CTU.
Apartment block, Mexico City, Mexico
The siblings were outside of Salazar's apartment, moments away from taking him out. Pulling out and cocking their guns, they could only hope that this wasn't going to be messy.
"Knock or kick?" Nina spoke to herself, before deciding on the latter, her foot making contact with the door. The siblings made a quick entrance before beginning the search for Salazar. He decided to make them aware of him by rushing out a nearby room whilst brandishing a rifle. It would be of no use to him as Alex shot him in the shoulder.
Outside of the building, a van had pulled up. Inside were three FBI agents, there with the permission of the Mexican authorities. They had been making their way up to the Salazar apartment when the gunshot rang out. Rushing towards the apartment, they soon realised what was happening. They could hear three voices at various volumes, two of which had American accents. Entering the apartment they saw Salazar, pressed against the wall by his neck. It didn't take them long to work out who the two Americans were.
"Nina and Alex Myers. Come to finish off the Salazars?"
As soon as the agent spoke, Alex pulled Salazar away from the wall and in front of him, pushing his gun into the man's neck.
"Who the hell are you?" Nina demanded, her own gun pointed at the three agents. The American accent of the one who had spoken was worrying her. If this was CTU, she had to be careful.
"I'm Jason Blaine, this is Maxwell and Ocho. We're FBI agents," the agent who had spoken explained.
"Here's what will happen. We take Salazar outside, get in our car and leave him to you," Nina replied, hiding her relief that it wasn't CTU.
"Fair enough," Blaine responded. He knew plenty about the two as well as their cousin, Eric, who had worked for the FBI. He had been selling information to Salazar, and Jason wondered if they knew about that.
As the siblings and Esteban entered the elevator, the FBI agents ran down the stairs. They couldn't care less about Salazar, but he would be a valuable asset if they could take him alive. He could tell them enough to bring down at least a couple of the more notorious Mexican drug cartels.
The play's final act took place outside, with the agents running towards the car as Nina climbed into it. Alex ordered Salazar to kneel next to it, with his hands behind his head. He glanced over at the agents before jumping into the car himself. As they sped off, Alex felt that the best possible outcome had occurred. Nobody had to die and Salazar had become far less of a threat to them.
Nina was more conflicted about the result as she drove onto the highway heading out of the city. Salazar in custody was good enough for now, but she had wanted things settled. If he could still control things from inside a cell, he might want vengeance of his own. Deciding it would be best to get out of Mexico for a while, she mentally ran through a list of her contacts. Finding one that would get them across the border, she smiled at the irony. They were going to be back in the United States to be safe.
Church, Los Angeles
"Do you, Chase Joel Edmunds, take this woman, Kimberley Mary Bauer, to be your lawfully wedded wife?" The priest asked Chase, who had a big grin on his face as he looked at Kim.
"I do," he replied. For him, this was one of the best days of his life.
The priest nodded before turning his attention to Kim and asking her the same question.
"I do," she replied. The wedding was perfect so far but for her, it had one major flaw. The absence of her mother who should have been here to witness it. Her father had talked to her about it the night before, assuring her that her mother would want her to be happy.
"You may kiss the bride," the priest concluded. As the pair kissed, they both thought of their future together as a married couple. The past didn't need to be there at that moment in time.
Private airfield, Phoenix, Arizona
It had been a quick flight, aided by a well-prepared contact back in Mexico City. Now the siblings were watching as the plane took off to the south. Moments later, Nina pulled out her phone and began a conversation that seemed unusual to Alex. Especially as she mentioned CTU more than a couple of times. As she hung up, he looked at her for an explanation.
"That was one of my contacts in LA. They're monitoring CTU for any intel on us," she stated as they walked towards a nearby car. Of course, the contact was more than that, but she felt that he would prefer plausible deniability. If everything went to plan, he wouldn't need it and Milo would rarely have to get in touch with them. She already knew that the latter was going to happen sooner rather than later. Now that the FBI had encountered them, CTU were sure to know about their latest activities. Not that either agency would be considering them returning to the States so soon.
A/N - Esteban Salazar, Jason Blaine, Maxwell, Ocho and Eric Myers are from the web series The Rookie. No relation between Nina and Eric is implied in the series or in 24 itself, but in my fics they are cousins. I think he's just named after Eric Meyers who was involved with the video game.
