Hey guys, man time moves fast. I feel like I only updated a week ago, yet I didn't - I kinda miss being a kid, 'cause time when slower then.
Also, I thought I would make a little note for all the people who review, asking me if I'm writing more. Unless I say I'm ending the story, which won't be for quite a while, then I can guarantee there is going to be another chapter, and then another and another - I think you all get my point. I don't mind the review's that say that, because it means you like it, but you really don't have to ask me that. I promise you, there is going to be a
lot more of this story to come - it might take me a while to finish, but there will be more.
Okay, now onto replying to reviews.
Loverofbones: Yes, Kate's Dad is most definitely a jerk and it was so fun writing Christine having a go at him, and I'm mentioning Darius' parents reaction, but I'm not showing it. I know I could, but I like it how I've written it.
Nourseholly: I'm glad you love my story, but I didn't forget Hank. I started writing this before season 9 ended, meaning the ending of season nine and everything that has happened since then has not happened in my story, unless I've managed to fit parts of it in. So, basically, it's fair to say that the events after that point never happened. I'm a bit sad that I couldn't add Hank in now, but that would change the entire story and I just don't feel up to doing that. Maybe I'll write a short story one day with Hank in it, and everything else that has happened in it too, but I make no promises - I have a life to live and my own books to write.
Christine's Pov
It had been one week and one day since Kate had temporarily moved in with us. The week had been an equal mixture of bad and good. So far, no one at school, other than our friends who Kate felt inclined to tell, knew that Kate was pregnant. However, considering she was now getting close to six weeks, it wouldn't be long until other symptoms appeared – like morning sickness. She was not looking forward to that one. She was already feeling nauseous and tired. Darius' parents knew what was going on and would be back on Saturday, and then they'd be around here on Sunday to help move Kate to their place – they had taken the news pretty well, once the shock had died down, though Simon had wanted to apparently punch Kate's father for saying what he said. They were going to move her into Faith's old room, which Faith said she could have, because she didn't want to go into Darius' room. They were happy to take her in, considering they saw her as family and wanted to be there for her and their grandchild.
Today was Monday, meaning we had school again. Normally I liked school, at least most parts of school, but with everything that had happened I didn't like it as much right now. School changes after you get chased around it by the football coach, who has a baseball bat and is trying to kill you. Now, I was one of the most talked to people in school and it was annoying me – somehow most people knew what happened and wouldn't stop asking me questions. Sure, I knew everyone would learn who killed Darius, because the principle came and talked to each class – but I had no idea how anyone knew what happened to me. At least not too many people were bugging Kate, and I doubted anyone would ask me anything anymore since I'd basically told them all to drop the completely inappropriate subject and Michael had said the same thing.
I'd felt bad because Michael and I hadn't gone to the hospital lately, but the nurses understood. With everything that had happened lately and the fact the Michael and I were now juniors, we promised we'd come as often as we could, but we couldn't miss school. Alice had passed away a while ago, so she was no longer waiting for me to come.
I walked into Kate's room and saw her still fast asleep, her hair a mess and looking out of it. I went over to her and started lightly shaking her shoulder, hoping she'd wake up easily for once. It's not like I could go and jump on her to get her up anymore.
"I don't want to go to school." She complained with a smile as she opened her eyes and I rolled mine.
I threw the covers off her. "Very funny Miss Madison, now out of bed." I said and she sighed, but she got out of bed anyway and ran a hand through her brown hair.
"You know Christine, your hair's getting closer and closer to light brown. It's basically a brown-blonde now." She said as she slowly stood up and I laughed.
"Yeah, well, my parents both have brown hair, so it's not that big of a surprise. At least it still has blonde in it for now. I figure by the time I'm finished high-school it'll be nearly brown, and by the time I finish college it will be brown." I said and she nodded.
"You know, I'm barely over a month pregnant and I'm already wondering who the babies going to look like." She said as she started finding clothes and I shrugged.
"Who knows, but sometimes it depends on the gender." I said with a smile. "You get dressed and I'll make our breakfast and lunch."
"Hey Chris, why don't you eat school lunches?" Kate asked as I started to leave.
"Because I like being healthy and alive. I also like knowing what I'm putting in my body." I said as I left the room. There was another reason I didn't eat lunch made by the high school, but I wasn't going to bring that up to Kate. Anyway, I preferred healthy, homemade lunches and had become used to them.
My parents were already at work, so I had the kitchen all to myself. I wished they would slow down a little, but I knew that wasn't going to happen. Mom would keep working until she couldn't anymore and Dad was planning the quit working the F.B.I sometime after he turned sixty and go into some other form of work – I think he planned to train once he quit being in the field, but who knows.
I started making our breakfast – though making wasn't the right word, since I was just pouring cereal into a bowl – and it wasn't the healthiest of breakfasts, but who cares. It was chocolate cereal and anything chocolate is good – I'd literally forbidden anyone "cough" Hodgins "cough" from telling me any disturbing facts about it. It was easy to convince him too, because I'd threatened to tell Angela that he'd let slip that her real name was Pookie Noodlin to Michael once. Michael had told me and we'd had a good laugh about it, especially because it was as bad as we'd thought. Hell, his grandfather had wanted to give Michael the name Staccato Mamba, even if it was a girl, and Michael still had the middle name of Staccato, so we knew it was going to be weird.
"God, how I love you!" Kate explained as she sat down at the bench and I rolled my eyes. She wasn't talking to me, she was talking to the chocolate cereal – Kate loved chocolate more than I did. "You know, I'm glad I can still eat chocolate, because I can't eat sushi anymore, or drink things with caffeine, unless it's only one, and I have to be careful with so many foods."
"That's because some things become harmful when you're pregnant – you can eat them again in eight months." I said and she smiled.
"That's the only reason I'm not bitching about it." She said and I chuckled, which is when she got a bright look in her eyes. "By the way, we're going to the Halloween dance party at school this year. It's not that far away."
I sighed. "Yeah, I know. I'm going to that, then there's Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's." I said, because there was just a list of things we had to do in the next three months. Well, then again it was less than three months since we were already in October.
"Don't remind me – I have to celebrate all those holidays pregnant and without Darius." She said and I smiled sadly. We'd worked out that Kate would give birth around May next year, so she's spend most of her junior year pregnant. "Don't worry about me Christine, I'll learn to cope."
Suddenly my apple watch started ringing, causing me tap the touch screen – it was easier answering my watch then always carrying my phone in my pocket. I'd been forced to get a watch to match my new phone, since I'd needed a new one after the copycat grave digger fiasco – and when I say I was forced to, I mean Mom bought them and gave them to me. She actually only bought me the watch two days ago and I knew why it was – a watch was harder to lose then a phone.
"Hello?" I asked, because I didn't know who the caller was – all it said was unknown.
"Hello Christine, it's Simon." The voice replied and I looked at Kate in confusion. Why was he calling me?
"Mr. Evans, why are you calling me?" I asked, since it would make more sense if he called Kate.
"Well I tried to call Kate, but she didn't answer her phone." Kate just shrugged, which made me roll my eyes at her. That's when I heard a familiar sound in the background.
"Are you in an airport?" I asked, because the sound of an airport was pretty distinctive.
"That's what I'm calling about. Amanda, Nathan and I are about to get on a flight back home – some things have come up, so obviously, we'll be back tonight. If it's okay with Kate, we thought we'd have her move in tomorrow after school – Amanda is eager to have her staying with us so she can help." Simon explained.
"It's fine with me." Kate said, probably surprising Simon.
"Alright then, we'll see you tomorrow Kate. They're boarding the plan now, so I have to go." Simon said, before hanging up on me, obviously because he had to.
"I wonder what's going on." Kate said and I shrugged. I really couldn't say what it could be, because there were so many things.
"Who knows." I said, and then I looked at the clock on the kitchen bench. "I do know we're going to be late to school if you don't get your ass moving though."
She looked at the clock and her eyes widened. "Oh crap!" She said and she started eating again, which just made me chuckle.
X
School was going as well it had been since Darius' death, which was sucky. It really pissed me off that people wouldn't stop spreading stupid gossip and coming up with a bunch of bullshit. Seriously, the kids at school had nothing better to do obviously, because you wouldn't believe how much bullshit people were coming up with – they knew some of the truth, but they seemed not to care. Things were worse today than they had been last week. Michael seemed about ready to beat the shit out of some of the guys who were on the football team – I swear, there were only a few people on that team that weren't assholes – Chase, Ford and Michael being three of them.
Right now, I was walking with Kate beside me. It was lunch time and we were meeting up with Michael so we could all eat outside. Michael was supposed to be waiting for us near the basketball court, but as we rounded the corner I saw Michael getting slammed into a wall of the school, one of the other football players holding tightly onto his shirt. Michael shoved back and they tumbled to the ground, tussling until Michael was flat on his, trying to stop the idiot on top of him from hitting him.
"What the hell!" Kate demanded the second I started running over to them, Kate right behind me.
"Austin, dude, get off him!" Another football player that ran up shouted as he grabbed Austin and pulled him off Michael.
"What the hell are you doing?!" I demanded as I helped Michael off the ground and the guy glared at me. Michael's lip was bleeding, meaning this basted had hit him, and I was pretty sure Michael had hit him too. His cheek was red.
"Oh, so you need your girlfriend to stand up for you now. That's pathetic." The guy said and I saw the anger on his face. "First you quit football and now you're hiding behind your girlfriend." He scoffed.
"That's the reason you're fighting him?! Why does it matter what he does, it's not like our school will be competing this year anyway? The coach being a drug user saw to that." I demanded and he looked at me then, smiling.
"Yeah, 'cause he's a piece of shit. Seriously, if the reason you're dating this loser is because he's a football player, you should dump his ass and date a real guy like me – I can show you a good time." He said and I grabbed Michael's arm so he wouldn't hit him again. That's when the idiot looked at Kate. "You too babe, I could give you the time of your life too."
The next second the guy was staggering back and landing on his ass, and there was a clear reason for that. I'd punched him straight in the face, aiming for his cheek because I knew I'd be in serious trouble if I broke his nose. I don't know what possessed me to hit him, because he was just being a jerk, but I was sick of so many people acting this way.
"Seriously, you're just gonna' let that bitch hit me Eric?" Austin demanded and the guy whose name was Eric just shrugged.
"You might be my best friend, but that was a dick thing to do. I don't hit women and I certainly don't talk to them like you just did – I also don't beat into people just because I don't like their decisions." Eric replied, shocking Austin, and then he looked at us. "I'll make sure the idiot doesn't get you in trouble, especially since it's his god-damn-fault."
Without saying a word, though I did nod, I grabbed Michael's hand and led him away. Kate was right behind us as I led Michael as far away from that idiot as I could, knowing if the idiot was smart – I wasn't so sure he was – he wouldn't keep going. Plus, it looked like his friend had a handle on things.
We came to a stop and Michael sat down onto the bench, sighing. I was ignoring the slight pain in my fist and wondering how he was going to explain his swollen cheek, or how Michael was going to explain his split lip.
"I'm going to assume that he did more than just go on about you quitting football." I said and he nodded, but he didn't say anything, he just looked down.
"He said something about Darius, right?" Kate asked and he let out a tired sigh as I sat beside him.
"About you and Darius, which just pissed me off. I'm the one who threw the first punch, after he shoved me, which I guess was a stupid thing to do." Michael said and I grabbed his hand as Kate sat on his other side.
"No Michael, it was a human thing to do." I said gently and he sighed again.
"Darius would have done the same thing if anyone was bad mouthing you and Christine – hell, he did it multiple times when you joined the football team." Kate said and Michael chuckled lightly, while I smiled softly. It was true that Darius had stuck up for Michael and I multiple times, and he's stood by Michael's side whenever something started, and vise-versa.
"I remember Kate, which is why I'm quitting. We joined the team together and it's not the same without him. Ford's quitting too, for the same reason, so we're just going to stick with playing basketball – hell, it's not like our football team is going to be competing in competitions now that we don't have a coach anyway." Michael said and he wasn't wrong. Our football team would probably forfeit the rest of our games, since there was no football coach right now and who knows when they'd find a new one. Also, even though Michael and Ford liked football, they liked basketball more and without Darius, football just wasn't worth it anymore.
"You know, when you told me you were debating quitting football, I knew you were going to do it." I said, because I'd always known that, despite his love of football, it was only my encouragement and the fact that Darius was on the team the Michael tried out. The fact that they won every game last year had its benefits.
"You're not pissed that I'm quitting, even though you spent ages convincing me to stop being a baby and try out?" He asked and I laughed lightly, before touching his cheek lightly, on the side of his split lip.
"Michael, I pretty much always knew that the main reason you wanted to be on the football team was so you could be on the same team as Darius. So no, I'm not pissed that you're quitting." I said, because I wasn't. I couldn't care less that he wanted to quit football – it was his decision to make, not mine.
"I can just imagine what Darius would be saying right now." Michael said and Kate started laughing, which made us look at her.
"Michael, he always knew the main reason you joined was because of him, so he'd understand." Kate said and I saw a look of surprise on Michael's face. "Actually, there's something I've been meaning to ask the two of you."
"What is it?" I asked and I watched as she placed her hands on her stomach.
"When this baby is born, I want you two to be its godparents. I know Darius would want the same thing." Kate said and I looked at Michael, smiling.
"Of course we will Kate." Michael said and Kate smiled happily. Michael and I had both known the answer to that the moment she asked, I knew that for certain.

Kate and I walked into Michael's house – we'd been invited over for dinner tonight since my mom and dad were going out. It was pretty good timing too, considering Kate was going to be moving in with Darius' family tomorrow. She'd actually left a message for Simon, saying that if it was okay with him and Amanda, she'd skip school that day and move in through the day. She'd gotten a message back only a few minutes ago, saying that it was fine with them.
Michael unlocked the door for us and we walked inside, only to be greeted by a grinning Katherine. That is, until she saw the split in Michael's lip and the slight bruising on his knuckles. Our teachers were curious as to what happened, but since no one would say what happened, they couldn't really do anything.
"Michael, what happened to your lip and hands?" She asked, concerned as she took one of his hands in hers. He smiled and ruffled her curly hair with his other hand.
"Don't worry about it, I'm alright. I just got into a little fight in school." He said and she glared at him.
"But Mom and Dad said we weren't supposed to fight." Katherine said and he just rolled his eyes.
"Well sometimes it's unavoidable. It's not like I started it." He chuckled and she didn't seem impressed. "I'm going to go get dinner started, since Mom and Dad will be home in twenty minutes."
I placed a hand on his shoulder. "How about I help you with that, we don't want the house catching on fire?" I offered and ran towards the kitchen as Michael chased me, smirking as I dodged his arm, before he finally managed to catch me and started tickling my neck because it was my most ticklish spot, causing me to burst into laughter and squirm to get away from him. "Hey, we all know you suck at cooking." I laughed and he let me go.
"Doesn't mean you have to bring it up." He pouted, kinda like a child, and I rolled my eyes.
"How about we just get dinner on? The longer we wait, the longer you're going to have to wait for food." I said, since I knew Michael had an appetite.
Apparently, Michael's parents said to make spaghetti and that we had free reign as to what we put into it. I took control of the cooking, since Michael really couldn't cook – he could cook spaghetti, but he liked my cooking more – and started chopping up some fresh tomatoes and mushroom's – mushrooms weren't bad in spaghetti and I don't care what anyone said. I cut them into reasonable sized pieces and then left them as I started cooking the minced meat.
"Michael, can you fill a pot up with water and put it on? Also, don't forget to add some salt." I said and he just nodded, setting to work. He did playfully shove me as he came over to the stove, but I just shoved him back with a smile on my face.

By the time Angela and Hodgins got home, we were serving up dinner at the table. Kate and Katherine were sitting down, Katherine's hair now in a plat because Kate had done up her hair. Michael and I were placing down the bowls.
"Oh my god. Michael, what happened to your face?" Angela demanded as she entered the dining room and Michael silently cursed.
"What, you thought she wasn't going to notice?" I asked him, since there was no way that was going to happen. "An idiot at school picked a fight with him."
"What exactly happened?" Angela asked, though it wasn't exactly a question, and Michael sighed.
"Austin, a guy on the football team, had a problem with me quitting football. He ran his mouth about it, and about Kate and Darius, and slammed me into a wall, I hit him to get him off me and we started fighting. The fight ended completely when Christine punched him in the face." Michael explained as I sat down at the table.
"Well, I can't be mad that you defended yourself. Still, why didn't you tell us you were quitting football." Angela asked and Michael shrugged.
"Well, it's unlikely we're going to be competing again this year anyway, and one of the only reasons I joined, other than the fact that I like football and am good at it, is because Darius was on the team. Ford's quitting too." Michael explained and then he let out a laugh. "And Mom, I know you hated me playing football, so I know your happy I'm not going to get injured anymore."
"Well, Angie, you can't lie about that. You said before he was born that you didn't want him playing sports where he could get hurt until he could pay his own medical bills." Hodgins said.
"I'm gonna' miss watching you play." Katherine said and Michael smiled.
"Well, you can still come watch me play basketball, and you can go watch Christine play soccer. Her teams doing good so far, so they might win the championship the start of next year. All this means is that I won't be getting hit anymore, which I'll probably miss." Michael said and I shook my head at him, before going back to eating.
"Oh, that's right. The high school soccer championship is around the same time as the football championship, isn't it?" Kate asked and I nodded.
"Yeah, that's right. Neither of the soccer teams from our school has won in quite a while, so no one really pays attention to when they are. But my teams won every match we've played so far, so we stand a really good chance." I said, because I had complete faith in my team – we worked well together and we got along. Sure, what had happened had made me absent a bit, but they understood and Danika was a fantastic vice-captain.
"Yeah, it's too bad I'm going to have to leave the cheerleading squad, or I'd come cheer you on." Kate said and I kinda felt bad for her – she loved being a cheerleader and she had to quit because she was pregnant, but she said that the benefits outweighed the loses.
"Why do you have to quit?" Katherine asked and Kate smiled.
"I'm pregnant, meaning I can't keep cheerleading for much longer. I plan to tell my coach in a few days, which has a fifty-fifty percent chance of going over well." She said and that's when I realized something.
"That's means Mariah will become head cheerleader, doesn't it?" I asked and Kate nodded. "Great, just great."
"Just ignore her if she says anything, though I doubt she will. Layla did give her one hell of a hard punch in the face to shut her up last time." Kate said and I nodded, because it was true that Mariah had been less of a bitch since Layla had clocked her one. "Anyway, I've been meaning to ask you Katherine: What are you doing for your 12th birthday, it's on the 4th of January right? Have any plans been made?" Kate asked. (A/N I know Katherine was never born in the show, but when I wrote it I'd thought they'd have another kid and the Bones and Booth wouldn't. I also know she's a little older than she should be, but I hope you can all look past that.)
"Mom and Dad are throwing me a party at the ice-skating rink – I've always wanted one there, so that's were we're having it." Katherine said and I smiled at Michael. Katherine loved figure skating and loved watching it – I couldn't count how many times Kate had gotten us to take her to a skating rink since she was eight. We'd learnt to skate because of her.
The next few months were hopefully going to take a turn for the better, with all the holidays we were celebrating, and then Katherine's and then my mom's birthday's that were a few months away since it was October – it was a bit early to plan Katherine's, but she was persistent, so they'd decided what they were going to do.
I knew that Hodgins and Angela were planning to buy her skates and an ice-skating outfit since she had always wanted them. As for Michael and me, we were going to go in together on a gift, though we weren't sure what yet and hadn't really had a chance to think about it. I'd suggested, since Christmas was right before, that we make something for her. He could build something, and I could decorate it.
End of another chapter. The next chapter involves costumes... that's right, it's Halloween. Michael, Christine and Kate will be dressing up as mythical creatures, so I'm interested to hear what you think that might dress up as. I will be giving no hints, but I hope you guys enjoy what I came up with when you read the chapter.
Also, I'm an Australian, so I don't know when the high school football champion ship or the high school soccer champion ship would be, but if anyone does, let me know. I'm not going to be heartbroken if I get it wrong, but it'd be nice to get it right. Right now, I'm going off what I've seen in movies and T.V shows, and they're never that consistent.
