One of the water fountains were on fire. She didn't mean the structure, she meant the water part. The water fountain was spewing fire.
How was unclear, but it looked freaking cool.
Come on, baby
Let's do the twist
Come on, baby
Let's do the twist
Take me by my little hand
And go like this
E-yah, twist
They were lucky Klaus lived so far out otherwise the cops would have arrested them for sure. The music was blasted so loud, she could barely hear herself think. She was pretty sure some of his 'followers' were lighting random things on fire on the roof and a little way-away another group were doing some questionable things near the swings.
But who cares?
This was (surprisingly) too much fun.
Dancing on tables, people jumping into the pool or really any body of water. Doing whatever the hell they liked in general.
With Klaus slam bam in the middle of it all.
It was beautifully chaotic.
Klaus grabbed her hands; briefly bringing her back to reality. Twirling her around laughing as his long hair swished back and forth like it had a mind of its own; was incredibly entertaining.
Baby, baby, twist
Ooh yeah, just like this
Come on, little miss, and do the twist
My daddy is sleepin'
And mama ain't around
Yeah, daddy's just sleepin'
And mama ain't around
We're gonna twisty, twisty, twisty
'Til we tear the house down
It was strange. Earlier that morning she expected to be spending her night by sitting in a corner of her crappy apartment and cursing her family name, herself and the Handler alike.
Not dancing with Klaus and his mad group of weirdos; laughing as they destroyed things and drank soda out of hose pipes.
Come on and twist
Yeah, baby, twist
Ooh yeah, just like this
Come on, little miss, and do the twist
E-yah
Yeah, you should see my little sis
You should see my, my little sis
She really knows how to rock
She knows how to twist
Come on and twist
It felt amazing. Maybe she needed a break.
Yeah, baby twist
Ooh yeah, just like this
Come on, little miss, and do the twist
Yeah
That's all right
Yeah, twist all night
Twist
('Round and 'round and 'round)
Especially after the events of that day.
"RISSIE!"
She hadn't even opened her mouth, when Klaus's shriek reached her ears as he enveloped her into a tight hug. She froze at first, not used to someone hugging her like Klaus was.
Not used to hugs in general. Only receiving a few in her lifetime.
But his embrace was so...warm, that soon enough she slowly melted into the hug. Ris shut her eyes, burying her head into his shoulder.
It felt nice.
'Maybe if she made it look like an accident, she could kill him.' Ris thought darkly, stabbing the kitchen knife into the chopping board.
They were in 1952, the year of Singin' in the Rain, the Mr Potato Head Game and the song 'Blue Tango'. Not the mention housewives. And the unreasonable standard they had to have.
Even fake ones apparently.
"Forget the gun, glare hard enough you might blow his head." Five mumbled setting down the dishes into the sink, leaning against it. "You okay?"
"No." Ris grumbled, sitting on top of the counter. "God, I hate this-I hate him. I don't get it why we have to do this…crazy-undercover crap." she spat running her fingers though her hair, messing it up.
Five smirked, watching her. The entire evening was the most un-Ris like evening he'd ever experienced. "Yeah. He's an asshat, but at least by the end of it, we'd have met Marilyn Monroe."
Ris shrugged, fishing out the many hairpins from her hair allowing to fall to her shoulders. "Yeah, the one good thing to come out of this."
The whooshing sound of a tube rang out though the now quite household. Five walked on the cupboard opening up the golden tube. "Good news."
"I get to kill that disgusting sexist piece of shit Johnathan Heyden?"
"Yes," Five said, making Ris grin. Jumping off the counter, reading over his shoulder. "Apparently the piece of shit Johnathan Heyden is going to 'mysteriously disappear' in two days, and we are going to introduce dear Marilyn to her 'new' agent."
Ris smirked. "Sometimes Five, I really enjoy what we do."
"So," Ris said, setting down her juice on the coffee table adjusting herself on the cushions. There was an entire room dedicated to them. "How did this," Ris said gesturing to the room. "All happened exactly?"
Klaus shrugged, waving his glass around. "Oh you know the usual, drugs, debutantes the seduction of older woman."
Ris snorted, nodding. "And the er?" she turned inkling her head to the door. "What?"
"Cult. Klaus, how the hell did you get a cult?"
Klaus paused. "Well, pfff…who knows…they just sorta showed up." he mumbled. "Anyway, what about you?" he said, crossing his legs.
Ris sighed, playing with the rim of her glass. "Nothing much. Showed up about a month ago, got threated by a goldfish. Oh! I found Luther."
"Really!" Klaus cried, leaning back grinning. "Huh, man, how is the old furry?" Ris shrugged. "Works at club, hates my guts, angsty. The usual."
"Oh. That's a shame, really felt after his own-you know-he'd be more-whoo." Klaus said, taking another long sip of his water as one of his followers walked in.
"Yeah." Ris agreed, watching the young girl (Jill?) set a newspaper down onto the coffee table, furrowing her eyebrows, she slowly picked it up. "I mean like, he's a grown man, why is he such a boring d-"
"Oh my god." Ris breathed out, cutting Klaus off. "What? What's wrong?"
Ris glancing at him, showing him the front page of the newspapers. In the middle was a picture of a man, in black glasses and hat blowing a cigar. The title above reading: Genius Scientist in Dallas.
"My grandfather's in Dallas."
3 weeks earlier…
"Oh, you two are just charming! Aren't they just charming Harry?" Mrs Devin said, lightly stroking Ris's arm.
Ris smiled, squeezing her left wrist tightly. 'Just a few more hours.' She thought to herself, discreetly shooting Five a look.
They were undercover; per the order of AJ Carmichael and the Handler.
It was definitely important was usually the two of them never seemed to agree on anything.
They were at a party, posing as a fake couple. They had 'just' moved in and of course was the apparent 'talk of the community'.
Their target Jonathan Heyden wasn't at said party, nor in there 'community' but, if they moved in too close, or even talked too much about him. It would have definitely set off alarm bells.
Or the usually chitter of the 1950's. Smoothing down her dress, she urged herself to play some attention to Mrs Devin's chatter about the latest and best sewing technique.
Five laughed loudly, talking at Mrs Devin's husband. It was obviously fake and even from next to her looked rather forced, but these people seemed so used to fake smiles they didn't seem to notice.
Catching her eye, he shot her a discreet wink, tapping his watch. '30 more minutes.' Ris thought to herself, taking a deep breath giving a light giggle to Mrs Devin's horrible joke.
'Just a little bit longer…'
"Okay, okay. So your crazy mother's father is in 1962 and he also is-"
"Studying the same thing my mother was, he's the reason she started. They both were, are" Ris corrected. "Obsessed with genetic mutation, DNA reconstruction the works not to mention when she found out about 43 super-powered babies-"
"And he's in Dallas, what's the problem?" Klaus asked, lying on her couch, glancing at the wall from the corner of his eye.
"In 1963, the same day JFK gets assassinated. He and a group of scientists are killed in a hotel restaurant." Ris explained, turning around from her Predicted Murder Wall. They were at her apartment now. Klaus insisting he needed a break from his followers.
In the past two hours, she had grabbed as much newspapers articles about her grandfather as she could, filling her wall with her two boards her: 'Time-spat Hargreeves Detection Wall' and her 'Predicted Murder Wall' as she explained her rather turbulent life story/ family history to Klaus.
Luckily it was rather therapeutic, stabbing things into a walls.
"He is evil and he his work wasn't exactly, benefiting the world. He was up to some shady shit, before he was killed. But all of it was destroyed before any one got to it. The building burned down. But it hasn't yet and I want to know what it is." Ris mumbled, leaning back.
Her eyes lit up, glancing at Klaus. "Feel like breaking into a high security building and blowing up some crap?"
Klaus was surprisingly handy when it came to breaking an entering. After the two of them successful climbed up the buildings fire escape and into the vents. Resulting in a lot of: "Klaus, get your ass out of my face." And "You're lucky to have my ass in your face."
Eventually they manged to (properly) get inside the building.
After entering a few normal science rooms and a few…well….questionable ones that included: "Why is a monkey dressed like Marilyn Monroe pole dancing?" and "Why the hell is a fish wearing a bra?"
Followed by: "Well, she fishexly." by Klaus. Which in turn was followed by Ris's: "What the #$% is wrong with you?"
Eventually they made to make it to a room that was moderately normal.
"Okay, just wait outside." Ris hissed, pulling out a few cabinets rustling though the files. "I thought we were blowing stuff up?" Klaus whined, waiting by the door.
"We will in a second, just wait."
"But I need to go to the bathroom!"
Ris shut the cabinet, looking over it glaring at Klaus. "I told you to go before we left."
"But I didn't have to go then!"
"Just hold it." Ris snapped, flipping over a few pages. "Rrrisssiiiieeee..."
"Hold it."
Klaus bounced on his feet, looking around the room before glancing back at her. "Could I just-"
"No." Ris said instantly, tossing a file in a corner, grabbing another one. "But just here-"
"No!" Ris cried, throwing another file in the corner, looking over at him. "Klaus, we may be thieves and arsonists, but we are not animals-Pull it up!"
"Yes, mother." Klaus grumbled, zipping up his pants. "I heard that."
"I wasn't whispering."
"Don't make me come over there." Ris threatened, a name suddenly catching her attention.
"Bloody hell." she whispered, pulling out the file looking it over. "Looks like your dad and my grandfather did know each other…" she mumbled, pulling out a photo, holding it too the light. "Ever heard of the Majestic Twelve?"
Just as the words came out of her mouth, a gunshot rang through the silent building. Ris and Klaus shared a look.
"Run."
