Hey guys, so I'm releasing this a bit earlier than planned as I need to take my laptop in for repair in just over a week and I'm hoping I can get another chapter out by then. I didn't want to release this till the next chapter was finished, but I figured why the hell not. I'm hoping you all like this chapter and hopefully the next chapter will be out by next Sat or Sun, as I don't want to leave this on a cliffhanger.


Christine's Pov

As I arrived at school, I looked down at my phone as it started to ring. I saw that it was Michael who was calling me. It would have rung through the touch screen in my car if I hadn't turned it off.

"Hey, what are you doing calling? I literally just got to school." I said and I heard him chuckle.

"That's what I'm actually calling about. I'm not coming to school today. Katherine's sick and I offered to take care of her for Mom and Dad." He told me.

"Poor thing, I'm assuming it's not pretty." I said and he chuckled.

"Well, she's been throwing up a lot and running a fever, but she's picked up a bit since last night." He told me.

"Well, I hope she feels better soon." I said.

"So do I, but Christine, are you really worried about Sofia? Because she's been nothing but nice and normal with me." He asked me and I sighed.

"Don't worry about that right now." I said, because as worried as I was, Katherine came first. "But, can I ask how much you've told Sofia about yourself?"

"Not a lot. I tried to keep it focused on what we were doing. We lightly talked, but I never talked about the things I like or any personal stuff." He told me.

"So, you didn't mention your parents or grandpa?" I asked.

"Nope, I didn't mention them other than saying we were close." He said, and I heard a pause. "Christine, tell me what's really going on."

"I'll explain to you tomorrow once Katherine's better, just promise me you won't spend time alone with her when there's no one else around." I asked him.

"If it really makes you uncomfortable, then I promise I won't. We study at the library, so there's always people there." He said and while I felt bad, I felt happy.

"Thank you. Take good care of Katherine and if I can, I'll drop past after school." I said.

"I like the sound of that. I'll see you tonight." He said.

"See you then hon." I said.

I hung up my phone and climbed out of the car. I was really glad to hear that Michael wasn't coming to school today as I wouldn't have to see Sofia staring at him. Sofia worried me, especially after what Sweets said, and I had told Dad last night that I wasn't her biggest fan and she obviously didn't like me. I was planning to do what Sweets had told me to do – I was avoiding her.

"Hey, Christine." Kate called out and I walked over to her. "Where's Michael?"

"He's staying at home today. Katherine's sick." I told her.

"I'm sorry to hear that." She said, before smiling. "But at least Sofia can't stare at him all day."

"I have to admit that that does make me happy, especially since I'm planning to avoid her." I told her and she looked at me in concern.

"Why would you avoid her?" She asked me and I opened my locker, looking into it instead of looking at her. "Christine!"

I turned to look at her. "Look, you don't have to worry about it. You're pregnant and that should be your priority." I said and she crossed her arms. "My Uncle Sweets suggested I avoid her, I talked to him yesterday."

"What's she done that worried you so much?" She demanded.

"It's not what she's done, it's just how focused she is on Michael and how she looks at me." I told her.

"Is she really that bad?" She asked me.

"Don't worry about it. You have to focus on that daughter of yours." I said, and I saw she wanted to protest. "Kate, I can handle this. I've told Sweets and I know to be cautious about this. If she actually does something, I'll go to a teacher, but for now she hasn't done anything."

"That doesn't make me worry any less, but I'll trust you." She said. "But if she hurts you, I'm going to be pissed."

"Don't worry so much." I said, because I didn't want her to worry. It wasn't good for her and I wanted her to focus on her daughter. "The only thing you need to worry about is your health and my goddaughter."

"And I do, but I also worry about my best friend. Your family to me and I don't want anything to ever happen to you." She said to me and I smiled.

"I feel the same way, so please just focus on yourself." I said and she sighed.

"Alright, alright. It's not like we have time to argue about this anyway since class starts in a few minutes." She said and I smiled at her.

"Then let's go." I said, getting my books out of my locker and laptop. While our school still made us use school books and pen and paper, we were still in an era of computers and used them a lot.

As I made my way through the school, now that everything was over and I had picked up the book I had wanted from the library, considering I still thought books were better than eBooks, I thought that it was eerie how quiet it was, mostly because the last time I had been in the school when it was so quiet, our school couch chased me through the halls with a baseball bat. My day had been actually pretty good, at least it had been if you compared it to the rest of my week. I hadn't had a run in with Sofia through the day and my lunch had been pretty good. I'd missed Michael obviously, as I hadn't spent much time with him in the last three days, but my friends and I had joked about a lot of things and had a decent time while we ate lunch. However, when it came to my last class, my teacher asked me to stay behind for a bit to help her with something and then I'd wanted to get the books, so now I was basically alone in the school, which was something I really didn't like.

I was currently on the second floor since that was where the library was, which was so stupid, so I was surprised when I ran into Sofia. Surprised, and not happy.

"Sofia, I'm surprised to see you still here." I said and I was. She didn't look happy.

"Where's Michael?" She demanded and I stayed calm.

"He's at home." I said.

"Why?" She demanded.

"I don't see how that's your business, but he's at home because that's where he needs to be." I said, because I didn't and I wasn't bringing Katherine into the conversation.

"Well it is my business. He was thinking about you yesterday and then he just took off, saying he had to go. Now he's not here today and won't answer my calls, and all he's done is text me saying he can't help me with the assignment or tutor me right now because he's busy, and that he'll let me once he's free." She said and her behavior was kinda frantic, like her world was crashing down around her. "Why did you have to ruin my time with Michael when it means so much to me? Did you not listen to me yesterday?"

"Look, Michael's at home because he wants to be and needs to be. I had no part in that decision." I said because I needed to get away from her if her behavior was any indication. "Now, I really need to head home."

I made my way around her and walked away from Sofia, as I didn't want to have this conversation with her anymore because I was becoming increasingly worried about what she was thinking. I was beginning to think that there might be something wrong with her mentally and that I had been right: she was obsessed with Michael. Also, after having talked to Sweets yesterday, I was worried about myself because she obviously thought I was in the way. If she was anything like Pam, who tried to shoot my mother because Pam thought she was in the way, I was in trouble. If Sweets talked to Sofia right now, I think he'd think the same thing.

That fact was why I started trying to grab my phone to call Uncle Sweets. He'd know what I should do. I took my bag half off as I walked, starting to try to look through it. I had to leave my watch at home. All I'd have to do is hit and say "call Sweets" and it would start to ring.

"Hey, don't walk away from me." Sofia called and I really wished there was someone around right now.

"Sofia, just leave me alone already. I have nothing else to say to you and need to get home." I said because I was tired of her.

Suddenly she grabbed my arm and ripped me around to face her, her face irritated. It shocked me because she was smaller and thinner than me, and yet she was kinda strong. "See, this is why you shouldn't be with Michael. You're so self-centered that you want to keep him away from me. Michael loves me, he should be with me and you're in the way." She yelled and I stared at her, because she really believed what she was saying.

I realized I might just be in serious trouble right now. "Look, I'm not doing anything. Michael is with who he wants to be with and he does what he wants to do." I said calmly and I saw the rage on her face.

"No, he isn't. You're tricking him, you conniving bitch. I wish you would just disappear so he can be with me. I wish you'd just die." She shouted and she shoved me, hard.

I grabbed her wrist, trying to stay up, but all I did was rip her bracelet off as I fell. My shock came when I kept falling, which made me realize that I must be in front of the stairs, and that's that last thing I remembered as I was plunged into darkness as my head erupted in pain.


Ford's Pov

I walked down the school hallway with Stacey, who had been kind enough to wait for me while I'd talked with my teacher, who had left the moment our discussion was over. I don't think there were any students left in the school anymore.

"Do you think Christine and Michael will break up over this Sofia debacle?" Stacey asked and I really bloody hoped they didn't.

Michael had told me yesterday that Christine was jealous of Sofia, which he couldn't understand since Sofia was so nice, but I had a feeling that there had to be something going on. Christine just wasn't the type to be jealous.

"I think that, despite the fact that it looks like jealousy, Christine might be on to something. She's not the type to be this overly jealous, but she is the type to worry when somethings wrong." I said, because I really wasn't that convinced that Sofia's actions were innocent.

"I hope they work it out." She said and I nodded. "I'll wait here, so go to your locker and grab your bag, then come back so we can go get some dinner."

I nodded again and grabbed my phone out of my pocket as I walked up and around the corner, looking down at it as I went. Well, I didn't have any messages, so obviously Michael had forgotten to since he had to take care of his sister, which I could understand. I just hoped Sofia left him alone.

I sighed as I reached my locker and looked away from my phone to open my locker, which is when I froze. I looked down the hall and saw someone lying unconscious on the floor in front of the stairs, and as I looked closer, I realized who it was because of the clothes.

I quickly ran over and wanted to curse when I saw that it really was Christine. She was out and her head was bleeding, and her bag was lying on the floor slightly away from her. With the way she was lying, I knew she must have been pushed. No one walks down the stairs backwards.

"Shit." I cursed as I grabbed out my phone again. "Stacey!" I shouted, because I needed her over here right now.

I heard footsteps running. "Ford, what is… Oh my god." She suddenly came to my side and dropped beside me. "Christine!"

I saw that she was about to cry, but she couldn't right now. "Stacey listen, I'm going to check her over, so I need you to take my phone and call 911. We need the police and an ambulance here now. You need to ask for ambulance first and I need you to tell them what I tell you, alright." I explained, thanking god that my mom was a doctor and had taught me first aid.

"Alright." She said as she took my phone, and I got up and went to Christine's other side. I lowered my head and was glad to see that she was breathing. Her pulse wasn't strong though. "Ambulance."

"Okay Stacey, you need to tell them her name and age, that we need the police because I doubt this was an accident and tell them who her parents are so they can be contacted. Tell them she's unconscious but breathing, has a somewhat low pulse and that her head is bleeding, and that from the looks of it, she was shoved down a flight of stairs." I said. Obviously, they were on the phone now, because Stacey told them our school address.

"We also need the police. Yes, we found her unconscious at the bottom of the stairs and we think she was pushed. She's still unconscious, but she's breathing. Yes, she's bleeding from the back off her head. Her name is Christine Booth, she's sixteen years old. She's the daughter of Dr. Temperance Brennan and Special Agent Seeley Booth of the F.B.I. Yes, please hurry." Stacey said, obviously answering every question she was asked.

I kept my eyes on Christine, taking off my jacket and pushing it against her bleeding head, before looking at the stairs. There was no way she fell down those stairs – she was pushed.

"Ford, that bracelet on the ground there." Stacey said and I looked where she was looking. It was a silver bracelet with pink flowers. "That's Sofia's bracelet, I've seen her wearing it and she was talking about it just today. She said that her mother made it for her."

I guess that answered who had tried to kill our friend and I grabbed my phone off Stacey. I had to call Michael and I had to call him now. I listened to the phone ring, but he didn't pick up his phone. It just went to voice mail.

"Michael, it's me. Christine's been hurt – she was shoved down the stairs at the school and I think Sofia is the one who did it. If she turns up at your house, call the police and do not let her inside." I said.

"He's not answering." Stacey asked.

"No." I said, before handing my phone back to her. "Do me a favor and send him a text warning him?"

She nodded and took back the phone, while I looked down at Christine. All we could do now was wait for the police and the ambulance, and hope Christine would be okay.


Angela's Pov

"Angela, you wanted to see us." Brennan said as she came into the room with Hodgins and Cam.

I had only asked for Brennan, as she had asked me to add some faces to skulls from limbo, so I wasn't sure why the other two were here.

"Yeah, I finished reconstructing…" I started, but suddenly Brennan's phone started to ring. "Sweetie, you can answer it. I don't mind."

She did of course. "Hello. Yes, I'm Dr. Brennan." She said and I assumed that it was someone who needed something from her, but suddenly I saw her face drop and became concerned. She actually seemed afraid. "How badly? Have you let my husband know what's happened? Alright, I'll be right there soon – please do whatever you can." She said, quickly hanging up. "I need to leave."

I quickly put down my control pad, shocked to hear her say that. She would never suddenly leave without an explanation and she seemed in a rush as she quickly left the room. "Wait a second Bren, tell us what's happened? You look worried." I asked as I followed after her and I could see that both Cam and Hodgins were concerned as they followed too.

Brennan turned to look at us. "That was the police, Christine's been in some sort of accident at the school and has been rushed to hospital." I could tell this had shaken her and I was shocked to hear that Christine was at hospital. "I need to get to the hospital."

"Then let me drive you." I said, because there was no way I was staying here when I knew Christine was so badly hurt. And I wasn't letting Brennan drive as she looked really shaken.

"We'll come too. There's no reason we need to be here right now and Christine is far more important." Cam said, while I realized I would have to call Michael, who was watching Katherine, and tell him what happened to Christine.

I was more worried about Christine though and what had happened.


Booth's Pov

I had been in my office talking with Sweets when I had gotten a call from a friend of mine in the police, telling me that someone had shoved my daughter down a flight of stairs at the school and she was being rushed to hospital in a serious condition. They had also told me that they suspected the person responsible was the girl Sofia that Christine was worried about, as they found Sofia's bracelet near Christine and Ford and Stacey said it was most likely her that did it, as they were the ones who found my daughter. The police were currently heading to Michael's house and Sofia's house, as they were the two possible places Sofia might have gone. Ford seemed to think that Sofia would go straight to Michael.

"Booth, what's going on?" Sweets asked as I drove out of the F.B.I building. He'd followed me all the way to the car and gotten in, constantly asking me what was wrong.

"Christine has been taken to hospital. She was shoved down the stairs at her school and they think a girl call Sofia is responsible. She's Michael's history partner." I said and I saw an odd expression appear on Sweets face. "What?"

"Christine came to me about Sofia yesterday, concerned about her behavior." Sweets admitted and I looked at him.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I demanded.

"I assumed Christine would tell you about what we spoke about, but I didn't know what Sofia was like. I only knew what Christine told me and she wasn't too sure at the time either about Sofia's behavior. I think she felt silly telling me about it at first." He explained.

"What did she tell you?" I demanded.

"She told me that Sofia seemed obsessed with Michael and knew things about him she shouldn't know, and that Sofia looked at her like she was a bug she needed to squash. I was worried for Christine, so I told her to avoid Sofia and be careful, but I don't know how it escalated this fast. Something must have triggered Sofia and caused her to snap, making her see Christine as a threat she needed to get rid of so there would be no obstacle between her and Michael." Sweets explained and I hated hearing him talk about my daughter that way, but he was just doing his job.

"Michael stayed home from school today to take care of Katherine." I said, having heard that from Bones. It was the only thing I could think of.

"That would be it. If Michael stayed home and ignored Sofia, there's a chance she'd blame Christine for keeping him away from her, especially if Michael mentioned Christine's name at any point before." Sweets said, before a concerned look appeared on his face. "Booth, if I'm right and Sofia is as bad as I think she might be, she is going to go straight to Michael."

"I know, which is why we're going there too." I said and he seemed surprised. "I'm worried about Christine and scared for her, but I can't help her right now, that's up to the doctors. I may be able to help catch who did this to her though and make sure she doesn't hurt Michael."

I hated that my daughter was in hospital again, and that I didn't know just how bad she was, but I wanted to catch the girl who had tried to kill my daughter and make sure the Michael was okay, because Sofia didn't sound stable. I'd met someone like her before and it hadn't ended well.


Michael's Pov

When I heard a knock at my door, I got off the couch and went to see who it was, as I didn't want them to wake my sister who was finally sleeping after being sick all day. I opened it up and was shocked to Sofia standing there. I had figured that it was going to be Christine.

"Sofia, what are you doing here? Actually, how do you even know where I live?" I asked her and she smiled at me.

"I asked one of your friends for your address when you wouldn't answer your phone." She said, smiling at me. "I was worried about you."

"I've had my phone on silent all day." I said, realizing that I hadn't checked it at all. "I haven't even checked it, though I should."

She smiled and pushed past me, and I realized that Christine might be right about her. "Well, that's why I figured I'd just come here. I figured we could just study here, save time ya know."

"Sorry Sofia, but I'm kinda busy right now. I'm taking care of my sister." I said, wanting her out of my house, and she grinned.

"Well, then let me help." She said and now I was beginning to see it.

Christine thought she had a crush on me and she was right, because Sofia didn't want to take no for an answer. Hell, I was beginning to think that this was more than a crush.

"Let me grab my phone and ask my parents first okay." I said and she grinned.

"I'm sure they'll love me, so it should be no problem." She said.

"I'll just be one second. Feel free to come wait in the lounge." I said, though I had every intention of making her leave soon. I just figured this was easier.

I went through the lounge, her close behind and grabbed my phone off the couch. I turned on the screen and saw I had a text message from Ford and a voice message, just as there was another knock at my front door.

"I better get that." I said.

"Okay, I'll just wait here. Once your back, we can get to work." She said and I nodded, heading back to the front door as I looked at the text from Ford, which I had gotten over an hour ago.

I went to open it as I opened the door, but when I saw two police officers standing there, I didn't bother to look at it.

"Can I help you?" I asked.

"Are you Michael Hodgins?" One asked.

"Yes." I answered, concerned about what was happening.

"We're looking for Sofia O'Neil, have you seen her?" One of the officers asked and I nodded.

"She's here, why?" I asked, now quite worried.

"We need to speak to her. Is it alright if we come in?" He asked me and I nodded.

"Of course." I said, now becoming increasingly concerned. I knew to let the cops do their job and since Sofia was concerning me, I was quite happy letting them in. "She's in the lounge."

I stepped aside and let them come in, directing them to the lounge room. I wasn't sure what Sofia had done to get the police looking for her, but it couldn't be good and her behavior was already worrying me.

"Michael, who was it?" Sofia asked as I walked in with the police and she instantly became concerned. "What's going on?"

"Are you Sofia O'Neil?" One of the police officers asked.

"Yes." She said and the other officer walked forward, grabbing her arm lightly. "What are you doing?"

"Sofia O'Neil, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of Christine Booth." The officer holding her said, causing my eyes to widen. Wait, what? "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney. If you can't afford an attorney, one will be provided for you."

"What?" I asked once the officer stopped speaking, looking at Sofia who was looking at me in fear.

"They're lying Michael, I haven't done anything." She said in a panic.

"We'll see about that down at the station." The officer said, pulling Sofia out of my house, while the other officer came over to me.

"Do you know the girl who was attacked?" He asked me and I nodded as I stood there in shock. Sofia had tried to kill Christine.

"Christine's my girlfriend." I said after a moment, before looking up at him. "Is she okay?"

He looked somber. "She's been taken to hospital. From the looks of it, she was shoved down a flight of stairs and has suffered a severe head injury." He explained and I honestly felt like my legs were going to give out. "I'm sorry that we did not inform you when we arrived. Your friend Ford told the officers at the scene that he'd texted you and left you a voice mail – he's the one who informed us that Sofia might also come here because of her feelings for you."

"I haven't even checked my phone. I've been too busy taking care of my little sister." I admitted, not knowing what else to say.

I'd just been told that my girlfriend had been assaulted and nearly killed by my history partner. When Christine had told me that she was worried about Sofia, I'd been an utter idiot and played it off as jealousy, and now I didn't know how bad she was. I hadn't even realized Sofia had feelings for me, and yet she was more than likely obsessed with me and I'd been too stupid to see it.

"Officer, you can head off with your partner now." Booth said as he entered the lounge and I looked at him and Sweets.

"You must be Special Agent Seeley Booth." The officer said and Booth nodded. "I'm sorry about your daughter."

"Thank you. You should go with your partner; Michael and I need to get to the hospital." Booth said and the officer nodded, heading off, while I stood facing Booth. "We should get going to the hospital. I only came here to make sure you were alright and Sofia was arrested."

"But I can't leave Katherine alone." I said, despite how much I wanted to go to the hospital and find out if Christine was okay.

"Ford's mother is coming to watch her for Angela. I'll wait with her till then, and then I'll go to the police station." Sweets said and I nodded.

"I just don't understand how this has happened." I admitted. "Christine told me she was worried and I just thought that she was jealous."

"This isn't your fault Michael." Booth said, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Now grab your things so we can get to the hospital and find out what's happened."

I nodded and headed to go grab my wallet. I knew Katherine was fine with Sweets, and that Sweets could explain what was going on. Right now, all I cared about was finding out what condition my girlfriend was.


Alright, yes I know I'm mean to Christine, but I promise I'm not hurting her again for a long time after this as I wanna give the poor girl a break. This was technically supposed to happen a little later in the story, but I brought it in earlier as I just had the worst writers block. Also, I'm actually doing this as it gives me an opportunity to do something I've been want to do. You guys won't understand that right now, but you will in the next few chapters and I hope you guys love what I'm going to do. Also, since I know someone might ask, I promise I'm not killing Christine as I'm no where near ready for this story to end. Also, from now on I'm going to try my utmost to get more done as I want to finish this story eventually. It might mean some skipping later one, but I promise I'll still do my utmost to keep the story lovable.
