Christine's Pov (Coma dream)
I sat in the living room with Hank, messy up his brown hair with my hand as he was staring at the laptop, trying to swat my hand away my hand.
"Christine, cut it out!" He complained, still trying to get me to stop.
"Nah, don't think I will." I said, adding my other hand into messy up his hair. "Has no one ever taught you not to tease or insult your loving big sister who is helping you do your homework? Or the fact that the sister will annoy you in response if you do?"
"It was funny." Was his only defense, but I just rolled my eyes and stopped messing with his head.
"You're so lucky that I love you." I said and now he turned his head to smile up at me.
"I know. I've got an awesome big sister." He said, before reaching up to touch his hair. "Except when you mess up my hair before we leave. I don't care a lot about how it looks, but I don't want it this messy."
"Well go and fix it then, because we've got to leave for the carnival soon." I said and he grinned as he got off the floor and left the lounge, while I shut down my laptop and got up myself, heading to my room to get changed.
It was well after lunch, so I'd gotten dressed normally before, but now I was getting dressed for the carnival. I was a part of a song and dance performance which was supposed to mean I wear a dress, but most of the girls said it was too cold and not everyone had long dresses, so now we just had to wear the school colors which were blue and white. We could wear any kind of blue. We'd be preforming a song from an old TV show called Glee called "Loser like me" which was chosen by some of the other kids. After that, I'd be singing to Michael.
I grabbed out the outfit I had put together out of my wardrobe. It consisted of a long-sleeved boat neck navy top that had a flowing bottom them was longer at the back, white skinny jeans and black small heeled boots. I wanted to look nice, but not overly nice since it was a school carnival. I got undressed and into my clothing. I went over to my vanity and put a navy headband in once my hair was brushed out. I then put a bit of mascara, eyeliner and lip-gloss on before grabbing my purse, a jacket and headed out of the room.
"Mom, Dad, are you ready to go?" I asked as I got to their room, seeing them both there. Mom was putting on her shoes and Dad was pulling on a jacket.
Dad turned to look at me. "Yeah, we'll be ready in a sec." He said. "You look nice."
"Thank you." I said with a smile, as tonight, I wanted to look a bit nice. "Hank will be ready in a moment, he just had to fix his hair because I made it a mess."
"What'd he do to deserve that treatment?" Dad asked me.
"Made fun of me when I was being a loving sister and helping him with his homework." I said simply.
"More like devil sister." Hank muttered as he walked by.
"I heard that." I said.
"I was just kidding." He replied quickly and I just rolled my eyes.
"Course you were." I said with a smile as I followed after him.
It didn't take long for Mom and Dad to be ready and for us to be on our way out the door and off to my school. I was glad that both Mom and Dad could come as sometimes they weren't able to in the past. I was scared about preforming in front of them though. I hadn't really revealed my singing talent yet.
We arrived at my school and I climbed out of the car, Hank following me out as I stared at the festival. It had turned out really good and I was sure Kate was frilled about that.
"You kids know how to set up a carnival." Dad said, coming up behind me.
"Yeah, it took a bit, but the schools been planning for months. There are boards explaining what's on. Inside the school are displays of projects and works of art." I explained. "Plus, rides of course."
"I wanna go check out the rides." Hank said, heading towards the crowd before anyone could stop him.
"I'll watch him. You guys go look around for a bit then meet up with us at the stage in half an hour." I said, chasing after my brother, as I didn't have to be at the stage till then myself.
I caught up to Hank and we went to go try out the few actual rides that they had. They ended up being a lot of fun and we enjoyed ourselves greatly, before we headed of to go and play at some of the booths. I won a large gray dolphin plush at the shooting game booth, where you had to hit all the targets (which Hank thought was so cool because he thought it made me like Dad) and Hank won a soccer ball at the ring toss and a light up sword from another game that he wanted to give to Seeley once we saw him and Daisy. Before we knew it, I was telling Hank we had to go to the stage, but could come back later.
"Christine!" I heard Darius shout and I turned to see him dressed in the same blue and white outfit I was in. Darius didn't have a bad voice on him, so he'd agreed to help out with the performance, but only this once as our music teacher had basically told him he had to. "Hey, can we talk for a sec before we head up?"
I nodded, before looking down at Hank. "Can you head to Mom and Dad, they're at the front of the crowd with the others." I asked and he just nodded.
"Yeah, and I can give Seeley the sword." He said and took off over to them, while I walked with Darius towards the back of the stage.
"So, what's up?" I asked Darius, and he seemed to want to talk to me about something.
"Michael broke up with Emma." Darius said and my eyes widened.
"Seriously?" I asked in surprise, as I hadn't expected that to happen, and he nodded with a big smile on his face. "So, I don't have to feel that bad about what I'm about to do."
"Nope, 'cause he finally grew a brain." Darius said and I shook my head.
"You kinda helped him with that." I said.
He grinned. "So, you're still going to go through with this?"
"Yep, right after our performance." I said, because I was ready to sing, whether Michael was dating Emma or not. "I'm not that nervous about it anymore, and I honestly don't care what anyone thinks as I was already the school weirdo."
Darius wrapped an arm around my shoulder. "You're a lot of things Chris, but a weirdo ain't one of them." He said and I smiled up at him happily.
"Thanks Darius." I said as we reached the rest of the group performing, seeing our teacher standing there.
"Miss Booth, Mr. Evans, now that you're here we can perform." Mrs. Swan said as she handed us our microphones.
"Mrs. Swan, can I have permission to sing a song after our performance?" I asked her and she looked at me, seeming a bit surprised.
"What song?" She asked, coming over to stand in front of me and talking a bit softer.
"Taylor Swift's "You belong with me". It's about time I told an idiot that I love him." I admitted softly and she smiled down at me.
"I'll tell the band." She said, smiling as she headed up the stairs and onto the stage.
"I don't wanna admit that I know what that song is, but since I'm dating Kate I do and I have to admit that you picked the perfect one. If he doesn't get this, then he really is a total idiot." Darius said and I smiled as we got ready to go on stage.
Mrs. Swan introduced us, and the song we were preforming. It was "Loser like me" which was from a T.V show years ago called Glee. I was singing the parts in the song that the girl Rachel in the show song.
We walked up on stage and I saw the surprise on my parents faces, as well as the surprise the rest of our family friends were displaying. I took in a deep breath and when the music started, I started sing. Thankfully, I remembered all the words and the steps and the performance went really well as far as I saw it, and it was a lot of fun. Even Darius seemed to enjoy himself. (A/N Normally I'd write out the lyrics, but since I've already done that once in this chapter, I really couldn't be bothered to do it, so if you don't know what the song sounds like, it is on Youtube)
As the performance ended and everyone clapped, Darius patted my shoulder as he walked off stage, while I stayed up there, heading over to the mic stand the Mrs. Swan had placed out. The band obviously knew what was going on and knew how to play the song, so I now had to address the crowd before I started singing.
"Um, hi everyone. I know this isn't part of the planned events, but my teacher gave us permission to sing a solo song if we really wanted to, and I have something more I wanna say." I said, addressing the crowd even though I was nervous as hell, and I saw Dad raise an eyebrow right below me as everyone I knew personally was at the front of the stage. Even Ford was pulling Michael forward, who was looking at me in surprise. "Normally I wouldn't do this, but right now, I think the best way to get my feelings across to a certain someone is to sing them, so that's what I'm going to do, 'cause I know what I feel is real."
With that, I looked back at the band and nodded, and then I looked back at the first row where Michael now was, with the rest of my friends and family. Basically, the people I loved. The music started playing.
You're on the phone with your girlfriend
She's upset
She's going off about something that you said
'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do
I'm in my room
It's a typical Tuesday night
I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like
And she'll never know your story like I do'(I looked right at Michael then)
But she wears short skirts
I wear T-shirts
She's cheer captain
And I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time
If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me
You belong with me
Walkin' the streets with you and your worn-out jeans
I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be
Laughing on a park bench, thinking to myself
Hey isn't this easy
And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town
I haven't seen it in a while since she brought you down
You say your fine
I know you better than that
Hey what you doing with a girl like that
She wears high heels
I wear sneakers
She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time
If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me
Standing by and waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know
Baby, you belong with me
You belong with me
Oh, I remember you drivin' to my house in the middle of the night
I'm the one who makes you laugh
When you know you're about to cry
And I know your favorite songs
And you tell me about your dreams
I think I know where you belong
I think I know it's with me
Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me
Standing by and waiting at your back door
All this time
How could you not know
Baby you belong with me
You belong with me
You belong with me
Have you ever thought just maybe
You belong with me
You belong with me
As I finished singing, even from where I was, I could see the realization on Michael's face. I also noticed that my mother seemed surprised by what I had just done, while Dad was just smiling up at me.
"Thank you everyone." I said, before I turned and walked off the stage.
I was tempted to go to the back of the stage, but instead I walked around the front and walked straight towards Michael. Mom, Dad, Hank, Angela, Hodgins, Katherine, Cam, Arastoo, Daisy and Seeley were all watching me, while I noticed Darius go to Kate's side, who was smiling.
As I came to a stop in front of Michael, I was nervous as hell, while he was just staring at me.
I waited a moment, but he was still staring at me. "You know, I just poured my heart out to you in song in front of a large crowd, so I'd really like it if you said something." I said to him and he shook his head.
"Sorry, it's just that… now I see why Darius has been giving me hell. I really am the biggest, blindest idiot in the world." Michael said and I couldn't help but laugh.
"You really, really are." I said. "But you've always been my idiot." I added.
Michael smiled down at me, and quickly closed the rest of the distance to grab my face and kiss me, which immediately followed cheering and clapping as I smiled while kissing him back.
"It's about bloody time." Ford shouted and I pulled away from Michael, laughing.
Michael seemed embarrassed, but chuckled anyway. "Yes, I get it now. I'm a blind idiot."
"And don't we all know it." Darius said while Kate laughed beside him.
"So, does this mean you love me too then?" I asked him, as he never actually said it, and he looked back down at me.
He placed a hand against my cheek. "Yeah, I love you too." He said and I smiled up at him. "But you're never going to let me live this down, are you?"
"Not for a while." I replied and he groaned. "Hey, I have all the right in the world. The day I finally bucked up the courage to tell you how I felt, you told me you were dating Emma."
His eyes widened at that, before he groaned. "I really am an ass, and the worst thing is that I chose to try dating someone else when I could have ended up dating you." Michael sighed.
"Yeah, why did you pick Emma?" I asked, because I was honestly curious. "Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you liked her, but she just never seemed like the type you'd go for."
He rubbed the back of his neck and looked nervous as hell. "Honestly, I did like her in the start, but the longer I dated her, the more I started seeing her faults and the more I realized that she'd rather I changed to suit her." He admitted, which made me want to smack him.
"You really are a total idiot." I said bluntly. "I'm going to have my work cut out for me, aren't I?"
He chuckled at that. "Probably, but the difference is that you'd never try to change me." He said, before taking my hands. "I know I have a lot to make up for Chris and that we have some things to work out."
"How about we start with a coffee date tomorrow then, because it's kinda getting embarrassing talking about this here with everyone watching us." I said and he looked around, noticing that a lot of people were still looking at us.
"Deal." He agreed, stepping away from us.
"Just so you know, I lost a bet with Darius because you didn't see Christine's feelings for you and because Christine fessed up to you." Ford said, slinging his arm around Michael's shoulders.
"Well, maybe you guys should have actually told me instead of leaving me in the dark and letting me hurt her." Michael replied, looking not all that happy.
Ford smiled. "It's not our fault you're a moron." Ford said and Michael just rolled his eyes, before looking around.
"Where is Darius anyway? I thought he would have stuck around to hang shit on me more. He's been pissed at me for months." Michael said and now it was my turn to smile.
"He's off somewhere with Kate. He's got something to ask her." I said and he looked down at me along with Ford.
"And what's that?" He asked.
"If Darius didn't tell you, then I'm keeping my mouth shut." I said simply, as I wasn't spoiling anything, before I turned around to face my parents and brother, along with Michael's parents and sister Katherine. "So, are you guys going to say anything?"
"I didn't know you had feelings for Michael." Mom said after a moment and I chuckled.
"To be fair, I got pretty good at hiding it, especially after Michael started dating Emma. The only person who noticed was Dad and I didn't even know he knew about it till yesterday." I admitted, before backtracking. "Oh, and Hank knew too, but that's only 'cause he's an eavesdropper."
Hank just stuck his tongue out at me for that comment, making me smile. "So that's why you've been grumpy with me and refused to speak to me any time I saw you." Michael said and Hank looked up at him.
"Yeah. You were hurting my sister, being a dumbass and dating a chick that sucked and made you miserable, so of course I didn't want to speak to your dumb face." Hank said bluntly and I had to stop myself from laughing. "I'm glad you like my sister too and it means you'll be around more now, but I still think you're an idiot and if you ever hurt her again, I'm gonna kick my soccer ball into your head repeatedly."
"Hank." Mom scolded, but I just chuckled and so did Dad.
"What, he deserves it." Hank protested.
"He's right, I do." Michael agreed, before looking at my dad. "Are you going to shoot me?"
Dad smiled. "No kid, I'm not, but I suggest you be smart and never hurt my daughter again."
"If I hurt her again, you have my permission to kick my ass, if she doesn't do it first." Michael said, before looking at his parents. "What do you two think?"
"I think this is like Booth and Brennan all over again, except this time the worry was that you both were too young and would ruin your friendship, which is fair enough." Angela said, before looking directly at Michael. "But I also think you have a lot to make up for with her."
Michael looked away. "Yeah, I know I do."
"Well, you were right about us being surprised kiddo." Dad suddenly said, gaining my full attention. "I didn't know you had such a beautiful singing voice."
I blushed at that. "Probably 'cause I never had the confidence to sing in front of people before. I've always enjoyed singing though." I admitted.
"We enjoyed the performances, though the second one was the biggest surprise." Dad said, before he smiled an even bigger smile. "Your mom and I also saw some of your art in the school show. You really have some artist talent." I blushed at that.
"Thanks Dad." I said.
"I saw it too. They were great Christine. You really have an eye for colors and some amazing shading skills, as well as an eye for detail." Angela said and I smiled at that as she was an artist. "I also liked your photos."
"Thanks Angela." I said, as she was a great artist.
"Well, you two should go and enjoy more of the carnival." Dad said, which I was grateful for as I did really want to talk to Michael alone.
"That's a good idea." Michael said and he took my hand, leading me away without me saying a word, so I just waved at everyone.
"That eager to get away huh?" I asked.
"Well, yeah. That was a kinda awkward situation." Michael admitted. "Still, I want to try and spend some time with you now, even if it is a little awkward."
"Well, things have been awkward for months, so it's not going to be that different." I said and he smiled down at me. "So, it's about time you start making up for things."
Michael and I headed to the rides and games, and while it was a little weird considering everything that's happened, it was fun. I knew our relationship wasn't going to start off simple, but I was sure we could work it out.
"Christine!" I heard Kate yell and I turned with a smile on my face, having a very good idea what this was about.
She came over to us, smiling like a fool with Darius right behind her, smiling happily.
"Darius asked me to marry him." She said happily to me, hugging me.
"I know." I replied happily and she pulled away from me, looking a little surprised. "He told me about it yesterday."
"You proposed?" Michael asked Darius beside me and Darius nodded.
"Yep. We can't get married till we're both eighteen, but I didn't want to wait to ask. I wanted to asked before our little girl was born." Darius said.
Michael stepped forward and hugged Darius. "I'm happy for you two."
"Well, you two made today even better by finally admitting your feelings for each other, though it took you bloody long enough." Darius chuckled, pulling away from Michael and patting his shoulders. "It's a good thing that Christine has bigger balls than you do."
"I'm never gonna hear the end of this, am I?" Michael asked and Darius grinned.
"Nope." Darius and Kate said at the same time, causing me to laugh and Michael to groan.
"But anyway, let's go somewhere to celebrate. Just the four of us. It hasn't been just the four of us in a long time." Kate said.
"I think that's a great idea." I said, because we hadn't spent enough time together lately.
Kate, Darius and I had, but Michael had been absent for a while and sometimes, it had felt wrong. The four of us were friends and is was supposed to be the four of us. We were best friends and we were supposed to spend time together, especially when there was something to celebrate.
Kate's Pov
I sat beside Christine's bed, holding her hand in mine as I hoped she would wake up. The swelling had gone down, so she should wake up soon. I didn't care that the doctors said it might take time, that is if she woke up, but I knew she was going to wake up.
"You know, you better wake up soon. I want my best friend to be there when her god-daughter is born." I said, squeezing her fingers in mine.
Suddenly, I felt her hand move in mine and felt her fingers start to wrap around mine. I looked up at her face in shock and saw her eyes twitching, causing me to laugh.
I turned my head to look at the door. "Hey, she's waking up. Someone get in here." I shouted before I stood up and lent closer to her. "Christine, can you hear me?"
I watched as her blue eyes opened slowly, fluttering open and shut as a nurse came into the room, coming over to the bed.
"The doctors on the way." The nurse said, checking the monitors. "Keep trying to talk to her and see if you can get her to talk."
"Chris, it's me, Kate." I said with a smile and I watched as her blue eyes focused on me.
"Kate." She said slowly, and it was such a relief to hear her voice. She was able to talk. "Where…, we were at a carnival? Where's Michael and Darius?"
My eyes widened at that and I looked at the nurse, who was looking at Christine with a slight amount of concern, before looking at me.
"You look concerned." The nurse commented.
"The name Darius… it's the name of my boyfriend who was killed." I said and the nurse looked back down at Christine, who was looking at me in confusion.
I was actually worried now about why she brought up Darius, but I was still so happy that she was awake.
Sorry it took me so long to upload again guys. Life and some writers block just got in the way. Anyway, hope you enjoyed and I hope anyone who is reading this is feeling okay, especially with everything that's going on in our world right now.
