1. THE BLOUSE

FIVE MONTHS. I WAS GONE FOR FIVE months and my father and stepmother didn't even acknowledge my disappearance. And yet, I wasn't surprised by it. My father, Gavin Baxter, and I didn't have what many people would consider calling the best father-daughter relationship.

Gavin was an absent father (I mean, he was there physically but never emotionally). He had always been like this since my mother, Evelyn, died at childbirth due to a lack of blood. Ever since her death, Gavin became depressed and he was so depressed that he barely noticed he had a daughter. Gavin and Evelyn were from England and moved to Forks when they were in their late twenties. That was when, within a few months, they found out about me and they were shocked. They couldn't remember how it happened, to put it mildly. And then, the rest is history.

His happiness would return in the form of a woman named Dina, who later became my stepmother. She had a daughter named Louise from a previous relationship. Louise was about fourteen when her mother met my father. Although, he was more focused on her rather than on me and Louise. Dina didn't see me as his daughter but as her competition, but Louise saw me as her sister. She absolutely loved me but, with everything going downhill, that was when I ran away to Seattle. I was heartbroken when I had to leave. I wished I had taken her with me but that would be kidnapping. But I did promise that I will find her when I sorted out my life. But I knew it will never happen.

The day I died was the day I changed. I changed into a vampire. A monster. A bloodthirsty child of the night, and it never brings music to my ears. My once greyish blue eyes changed to the same blood-red I saw before my end. My pale skin turned colder and a bit paler. When I saw my fellow newborns, including the young girl I remember being called Bree, I knew something was happening to us. We have to do something but what? We were weapons of destruction. We were their weapons.

Them.

Him.

Her.

Her.

All I could remember was her face. Her cold pale face with blood-red eyes but I couldn't remember her name. I asked Riley, her second in command, but he refused. He said that all of the newborns' thoughts - including mine - are not safe enough to hold on to. If she created us - or at least, some of us- why not tell us? It's not like we were going to tell on her like a snitch in class.

What a stupid answer.

In this army, there were two rules: one, don't go out in the sun. And two, don't draw attention from anyone or anything. Breaking one of these golden rules will bring severe punishment: death. Following the rules was easy for me. I wasn't fond of the sun and I hate getting attention.

With midnight on the clock, all newborns - with me of course - have to meet with Riley for he had something to show to the army. When we arrived, Riley was in the centre like a politician ready to speak to the public. His dark blonde hair blended with the darkness and his pair of scarlet red eyes scanned each one of us.

His pale skin matched with all of us. His small hand took out a light red blouse from his pocket. The newborns hissed at it and I stared blankly at it. What does Riley want us to do to the blouse? He rose the blouse up so all of us could see it.

"I want each one of you to smell this blouse," Riley spoke loudly in his commanding tone. He walked to the bottom of the group and gave it to a slim build boy. "Smell it and remember the scent. It's our prey."

The blouse was smelled and passed by the newborns like passing a joint drug. When it came to me, I immediately grabbed the red blouse and inhaled it. I thought about his commands.

Smell it. Remember the scent. It's our prey.

My thoughts raced with the scent. It was like snorting cocaine up my nose for the first time (which I never did but I imagine it to be this way). The pleasure rushed through my nose and veins as my brain worked out where the scent originated from.

It smelt good. Sweet, perhaps. Hungry. I dived deeper into the scent. Strawberries. Sweet, sweet strawberries. So sweet yet... familiar. Why was it familiar to me?

I was walking along the hallway of Forks High School. I stopped by my locker and opened it. My right hand grabbed the book I needed for class. I closed the locker door and turned around. There, I spotted the new girl walking past me. Her long brown hair was past her shoulders and her upper back and her chocolate brown eyes were looking at the ground. Her skin was less pale than mine. Then, I decided to walk up to her.

"Hey, you're the new girl, right?" I asked her and she looked up at me.

"Y-yeah?" She sounded surprised as she answered.

"You're Bella? Bella Swan?"

"Isabella, but basically yes." There was a hint of annoyance in her tone.

"I'm Violet Baxter." I introduced myself and I stretched my right hand. She shook my hand with her left hand. "You're from Phoenix, right?"

"Yeah," responded Bella. "Did you grow up here in Forks?"

I nodded my head. "Aren't people from Phoenix supposed to be tan?"

"Aren't there people from Forks who don't have a British accent?"

"I got it from my Mummy and Daddy," I answered in a put-on British accent and she sniggered at me. Wow, cringe.

"Well, my mother was part albino," Bella added and I softly giggled.

"I imagined we'll be called The Albino Twins someday."

Bella chuckled and smiled at me. "Hey, so I'll see you later."

"Yeah, see ya," I said as she went to her class.

Bella. Bella Swan? Bella Swan is the prey? What did she do to Riley that he wanted her dead? Did he want her dead? Of course, he does. It was our creator's demand. Does Bella know about him? The army? The danger she is in? This was her blouse we were smelling. Riley somehow snuck into her bedroom and stole her red blouse. I was in the army that will kill Bella. I don't want to kill her. She's my friend, the only one that I felt comfortable being around.

"We better rest," Riley said to the newborn army. "Better find shelter quick before the sun rises."

The newborns scattered around like rats searching for a place to hide from the exterminators. I eventually found a small cave located close to the river. I walked deeper into the darkness and turned around, watching the sun rise from the west. I thought about Bella and the danger she was in. I hope she was aware of vampires and had protection ready in case they came to her. I can't believe this was happening. How did my life end up like this?

My mind was already made up. After the battle, I'll get out of here. If I survive this battle that is.
