Kim Possible: Invisible

Jack eyed Dr. Director and walked out to stand next to her as the woman stood out in the front yard staring up at the faux night sky that actually showed a moon and stars.

"Elizabeth," he called her.

She didn't look back at him, but he noted her tense.

"Those Possibles are something, aren't they?"

"I knew the first time we met they were either going to be our greatest champions or our greatest enemies," she said, finally looking down as she turned to eye him.

"I knew Kimberly Anne was formidable, but even I never suspected she could be capable of….such ruthless actions," Jack told her.

"Then you weren't paying attention. Even I noticed she could be ruthless at times. Consider she could hold her own with Shego, and not many can say that one. Then there were all the men she put in ICU."

"I know. I paid their medical bills," Jack sighed.

"And you didn't realize her abilities?"

"It never occurred to me. Somehow, I saw that smiling little girl's casual manner, and nothing else."

"Don't kid yourself. She could be vicious. Consider that she once kicked Shego into an imploding radio tower when she lost her temper. Anyone else would have been dead."

"That green woman is pretty tough," Jack agreed.

"So, what's on your mind," Betty finally asked.

"Elizabeth, we're not getting out of here," Jack said quietly.

"No. I doubt we are, even if there was a safe way to….restore ourselves."

"Which, apparently there isn't according to our resident experts."

"I'd listen to them. Regrettably, they are very intelligent."

"Just not very practical, or we wouldn't be here," Jack sighed.

"That one goes without saying," Betty nodded. "So, you're point? You must have one, even if you keep dancing around it."

Jack eyed her and smirked faintly.

"There is a degree of irony here that I find myself uncertain for one of the first times in my life. Just as it is ironic that I'm standing here with you, my longtime rival, and hoping we might….form merger of sorts."

"A….merger?"

Jack sighed.

"Can you honestly say you aren't lonely," Jack declared now and gave a faint smile.

"Are you asking….?"

"I'm saying, how about we form a united front. Before some of our less laudable gentlemen attempt to….force the issue."

"Do I have to ask….?"

Dementor and Killigan are both now arguing over who gets the only other woman in our….colony. The old man is fading faster than that idiot Stein, and I don't think he will be lasting much longer. The kid is hardly going to be any help in a real power struggle. Only you and I, and Bonnie who leads Junior, could ensure the others stay in place. Understand?"

"Only first I'd have to show….I stand with you," Betty said quietly.

"It would be….wise," he said quietly. "And ensure our labor keeps in its place without upsetting our future by...unsettling our little group's dynamic."

"So," she sighed. "There is quite a lot of irony here, isn't there? I'm supposed to ally with the man I spent years trying to arrest? Only now… Well, Wade won't be much use. As you say, he's impractical about certain realities. Then there is his youth."

"Indeed," Jack nodded.

Betty shook her head.

"Would it help if I promised to be a perfect gentleman, and always treat you with respect," he smiled.

"Weren't you married," she abruptly asked.

"Divorced. You?"

"Single. I was devoted to my job."

"That's…a bit too much devotion, woman," he smirked. "Even I knew you had to take time off to relax sometimes."

Betty just stood under the simulated night sky and stared at the tall, surprisingly fit man in common clothes now, since slacks and finery were hardly appropriate for their new life. She sighed and shook her head.

"All right. We'll give it a try at the least. I certainly don't want to be fending off those two loons every time I turn around," she complained.

Jack smiled.

"Look at it this way. Perhaps our show of cooperation might earn us some respite from the powers-on-high."

"Well, I have heard that anything is possible," Betty said blandly as they embraced out under that night sky, and then Jack led her inside.

To his room.

Kim staggered visibly as she led Shego into the dimensional portal she opened after starting her trap's timer, and almost fell on her face as she felt something that seemed to literally tear at her even as the portal closed behind her.

They had just set the timer, both of them knowing GJ's tactics and knowing exactly how long it would take the arriving agents to reach the heart of the lair where Kim's housewarming present waited for Will Du to show.

Shego almost fell with her, but pulled the pack off the redhead's back, and asked, "You okay, Princess? What happened?"

"I….don't know," Kim frowned. "I just suddenly feel….strange. Different."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know. I need… Here," she said, handing Shego her old Kimmunicator. "Scan me, and see if something has changed by coming here. For all we know my energized cells may be reacting to something in this environment."

"Right. Okay, this button, and then…."

The device hummed, and Shego frowned, and eyed the graphs before her, and said, "Okay, it did something, but I can't read this stuff. What's that mean," she asked, handing the device back over.

Kim took the device as they stood there, and tapped the display. She scrolled several screens, and then looked up at Shego.

"This…. This is….unbelievable. Just a minute, I want to try something," she said and reached for the holographic emitter that made her visible.

Switching the device off, she stood there, and Shego frowned.

"Kimmie….I can still see you," Shego told her incredulously.

Kim held up her hands. No longer looking like her usual holographic self, she was wearing no gloves and had her battle suit and visor on, but it was looking soiled and worn of late. Only it was her, and she was visible.

"Oh, God," Kim choked and dropped to her knees again.

"Kim….?"

"This world. It's doing...something. It's….somehow draining the dimensional energies right from my cells," she exclaimed. "I don't know how or why, but….it's draining all that excess energy from me, and keeping it from rebuilding."

"So, no more vanishing act?"

"Not as long as I stay here," Kim said quietly, and they looked around the grassy field and the alien forest in the near distance.

"So, what now," she asked.

"I need to test some things. See how this affects me, and….everything else I was doing. Could do. Still, it looks like as long as I'm on this world, in this dimension, something is sapping all that excess energy from me so I appear normal again," Kim said, her green eyes bright with tears. "Oh, what about you? Your comet power?"

Shego frowned and lifted both hands that roiled almost instantly with plasma energies.

"Strong as ever," she said somberly.

"Weird," Kim murmured.

"Here's a test," Shego suddenly said. "Try to make another portal."

Kim held out her hand.

For a moment she just stood there, and then she frowned and lifted both hands.

"Nothing," Kim finally said. "Apparently, draining my dimensional energy also keeps me from using it the way I did before now."

"So, we're really trapped here anyway," Shego said.

"Not….trapped. We have the tech to still travel extra-dimensionally in my Roth. Knowing the boys, they'll be putting their own portal generator together any day, too. Still, it may be only this world that keeps me….normal. If I'm deciphering these readings right, the moment I left this world, or maybe this dimension, the energy levels would rebuild, and I'd be right back where I started," Kim said. "Or…that's the most likely theory based on all this so far," Kim said.

"Well, after that party we left for Du and his Stormtroopers, I doubt we want to go back home anytime soon," Shego pointed out. "You did pretty much murder half of GJ back there by now."

"There is that," Kim said and opened her backpack to pull out a small pouch. She set a tiny car before her, and then used a yellow-gold ray that enlarged the familiar purple Roth, and restored it to full size before them.

"Let's explore our new world," Kim smiled. "We'll find a place to set up a base, and then figure out what comes next."

"Sounds good," Shego smiled. "So, how long do you think it will take the boys to join us?"

"Knowing them," Kim smiled as she opened the driver's door. "Not long. The question is, will they convince mom and dad to join them. Even I can't guess that one."

"Well, until then, let's go see what we can find, Princess," Shego grinned as she climbed into the car with Kim.

"Should be fun," Kim agreed with a familiar smile for the first time in some time and started the engine.

"I'm all for fun," Shego smiled at her as the Roth rose from the ground, and began to fly off over their new world. "Let's go see what is out there, Princess," she grinned.

"Spankin'," Kim agreed.

Never the End….
