A/N: Sorry for the delay in publishing in this story. This is a short chapter but I wanted to post something and I figured a small chapter is better than no chapter.
The Boxer and The Doctor
Chapter 6, Moving In
Jane and Maura both got up and got dressed so they would be ready for their day. They ate a small breakfast together before they had to go to work and class. As they were finishing up their breakfast Maura slid a small box over to Jane and smiled. Jane took a moment and looked at Maura before she opened the box. Jane had never seen Maura with such a huge smile on her face. She wondered what was up and then she opened the box. Jane took the key out of the box and gave Maura a huge smile in return. "I wanted you to have your own key to OUR house. You can bring your things over as soon as you would like. I would prefer that to be today of course."
Jane gave her a kiss and said, "Thank you Maur, I will do just that. After class I will start bringing my clothes over. I don't have that many belongings yet so it won't take me long to bring my stuff over." She told Maura, "I will bring some clothes over each day and by the weekend it will all be here. I don't have too much stuff at all."
"Fantastic, I want you in OUR bed every night. I want to go to sleep with you and wake up in the morning with you. I might still have some long shifts but I will see what I can do about that so I can be home most nights." Maura said as she kissed Jane goodbye, she had to go to work.
"I will cook dinner tonight so whenever you can come home it will be ready." Jane kissed her back and hopped into her car. She couldn't be late for the academy. She thought to herself, 'this isn't too fast is it, moving in with Maura? I mean I like her and I want to spend every single minute with her. Nah, it is just my damn nerves. Maura is wonderful, we get along so great.'
Maura was also thinking to herself, 'man, I hope I didn't scare Jane asking her to move in already. She is so perfect. I want to spend all of my time with her. I want her close. I have never felt like this with anyone.'
They both arrived at their destinations and got wrapped up in their activities for the day. Jane got back to the house first and started working on dinner just like she said. She placed her books on the kitchen counter and opened one up to the page she wanted to study. She could review as she prepped for dinner. Half an hour later dinner was in the oven and Jane sat down and was concentrating on her textbook when Maura walked through the front door. Jane was so wrapped up in what she was doing she didn't even hear Maura come in. It wasn't until arms wrapped around her waist and a gentle kiss was placed on her cheek that she realized Maura was there.
"Hello Jane." Maura said as Jane rustled her book closed and turned to see Maura.
"Maur, you startled me." Jane said as a huge smile appeared on her face. "I must have been deep in thought."
"You were very wrapped up in your book, interesting subject?" Maura asked.
"Nah, just going over what we learned in class today and I was rereading a particular passage. I have a lot of my clothes in my car. I wanted to check with you as to where to place my things. I am excited about moving in with you. You haven't changed your mind, have you?" Jane asked nervously. She didn't think that Maura had changed her mind but she wanted to make sure.
"Of course not, Jane, I want you to be here with me. I want this to be OUR place. Have I told you how hot you look in your uniform?" Maura said as she wrapped Jane up in a hug and started peppering kisses on Jane's neck. Jane was still wearing her uniform as she wanted to get dinner going and write some notes about what she learned that day. She didn't think anything about how she looked in her uniform. She just made sure her uniform and clean and that she was wearing it properly.
"Not today." Jane laughed as she kissed the top of Maura's head.
"Well then I must correct that. Soon to be BPD Officer Rizzoli, you look very hot in your uniform. I can't wait to see how much hotter you will look with a badge and gun." Maura said as she pulled back from their embrace to look at Jane.
"Aw Maur, stop." Jane said with a huge smile and she pulled Maura back into a hug.
"It's true and I have no doubt about you moving in with me. There is just something about you and I feel loved, safe and secure when you are around. I have never felt this way about someone, so get your stuff out of your car and into OUR house already."
"Bossy!" Jane said as she laughed and broke their embrace so she could look Maura in the eyes.
Maura just gave an awkward smile and said, "Sorry, just you live here now and your stuff should be upstairs in the master bedroom with mine." It looked as if tears were going to start flowing down her face.
"Maur, don't cry. I was just teasing you." Jane said lowering herself a little so she could stare into Maura's hazel eyes.
Maura quickly let one side of her face raise in a half smile before she said, "Did you tell your ma that you are moving in with me before graduation?"
Jane responded immediately, "Nah, I figured I would tell her at some point though. It's not like I have been there every night. She loves you so I don't think she will have a problem with me moving in with you. I was going to look for an apartment after graduation so she had been preparing for me to move out."
The timer went off and Jane further broke the embrace to grab the potholders to remove the lasagna that she had made from the oven.
"I need to freshen up a little before dinner. I will be right back." Maura said as she ran upstairs to do just that.
She came downstairs ten minutes later looking totally refreshed in a different outfit. She was now wearing a nice pair of dark black slacks and an almost see-through sea green blouse. The blouse made her eyes look an even darker shade of green and Jane swore she could see sparkles in Maura's eyes. She was breathtaking.
Jane was taking the garlic bread out of the oven and said, "Wow, you look gorgeous Maur. Not that you didn't before you went upstairs but you look more gorgeous now." Jane thought to herself, 'I better shut up before I make this compliment worse.'
"Thank you, Jane." Maura said as she approached Jane.
"Dinner is ready if you would like to grab a bottle of wine and the glasses." Jane said as she moved the garlic bread to the table where she had already placed a salad and the lasagna.
"I can do that. Is this the family recipe?" Maura questioned.
"Yes, as much as I could remember without having a copy of the recipe to follow." Jane stated.
"You don't have copies of your family's recipes?" Maura said with a slight look of concern.
"No, my ma doesn't let them out of her sight. She said if I were to cook with her, she would pass along the recipes. I haven't cooked with her, so she hasn't passed along the recipes." Jane explained as they both sat down to eat.
"Interesting, you cook great though, how come you don't cook with her?"
"She starts cooking hours before a meal and I was at practice, school or work so I didn't spend that much time in the kitchen. When I did get home, I wanted to be out in the living room with my pop and brothers so she just let me be. She knew I wasn't into cooking, dresses and everything pink like she wanted her daughter to be. I was more a tomboy and enjoyed doing things with my pop and my brothers." She explained as she served them each a helping of lasagna. Maura was preparing her salad bowl and moved the salad over to Jane so she could put a little bit on her plate. Maura knew that Jane wasn't a big salad eater but she had agreed to have a little bit with each meal.
"Well, I am happy that you do know how to cook. I love to cook and would love to cook with you. I enjoy when we can work together as a team to make our meal." Maura said as she poured some salad dressing on her salad.
"I enjoy that also. Just don't tell my ma that I can cook. She thinks I don't know how to cook at all. If she finds out I can cook I will have to be in the kitchen with her all the time." They both laughed because they knew it was true. Angela had monopolized Maura's time last time she went for Rizzoli Sunday dinner and figured it would happen again.
They finished eating their dinner and then washed the dishes together and put them away. Maura sat down to look through her mail and Jane went out to bring in some of her clothes. When Jane came through the front door with her clothes Maura got up to go help Jane and they went upstairs to organize their belongings. Maura had cleared part of the closet and few drawers for Jane. Jane moved the few things she had in the guest room over to the master bedroom.
Maura was standing there with a huge smile on her face. Jane walked up to her and said, "What are you all smiles about?"
"You, I am smiling because I am happy you are here sharing my life with me. I am smiling because this is the first time, I have asked someone to move in with me. I am smiling because you make me so happy and I am looking forward to this adventure with you."
"One thing you don't have to worry about Maur, I won't leave the toilet seat up." Jane laughed.
"Jane!" Maura said with a serious look on her face.
"Hey, I thought it was funny." Jane still had the smile on her face.
"It was and I am sure we will find out some little quirks that drive us crazy about the other but please promise to tell me if I do or say something that you don't like. I want this to work out. I want to spend every day waking up with you and going to sleep with you at night and everything in between."
"I want that too Maur, so I promise. If you do something that I am uncomfortable with I will let you know. I realize we have only known each other for a few months and we still have a great deal to learn about each other. I want to spend the rest of my life getting to know everything about you. I know that might sound deep but it is the truth and I will always try to tell you the truth."
"Thank you, Jane." Maura said as she walked over and gave Jane a big kiss on the lips. Jane immediately deepened the kiss.
"You are welcome Maur, and if you keep kissing me like that we will end up in bed at," Jane paused to look at the clock. "7:30 in the evening."
"Is there something wrong with going to bed right now, we don't have to sleep? I can think of a few things to do to occupy some time." Maura winked at Jane.
Jane smiled and said, "let me go lock up downstairs and I will be right back."
"Okay." Maura said as she let Jane go downstairs to secure the house. She would get ready to make sure that they enjoyed the rest of their evening, their first evening in their house officially living together.
