Author Notes - This should be the last family in this 'document' that is a plant... question mark? I mean, technically Pikmin are plants, so I guess they would count. Not for purposes of this 'document' but still.

PELLET WEED FAMILY

Kingdom: Pikmilia (1)
Phylum: Poselia
Class: Nectorus
Order: Pelletae

EMILY'S PERSONAL NOTES

Technically, this is just a plant. In case that wasn't obvious. But I have a few reasons for including it in a document otherwise dedicated to beasts. First, it is rather bizarre compared to the relatively normal plants found elsewhere in this ecosystem. I mean, those Glowstems are pretty weird too, but I'm, like, 60% sure they're just LED lights. Second, and most importantly - IT HAS MUSCLE FIBRES IN ITS STEM. The dang thing is a plant-animal hybrid, just like the Pikmin and the Candypop Buds. I… I just can't with this planet sometimes.

Brittany really likes these plants, cos they're so pretty and stuff. Do you think that she would like it if I gave her one? I-It has absolutely nothing to do with that crush I have on her. A-Absolutely not! WHAT MAKES YOU SAY THAT?! Definitely not upset that all of my sisters are already getting married or that Ida already has two adorable sons or tha- alright, I'm gonna put a stop to this before I really spiral.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCES

The Amplus nutrio (Pellet Posy) resembles an ordinary flower at first glance. It is quite tall and has a few dark green leaves at the base of its stem, and several white petals that surround the 'pistil'. These white petals turn dark purple at the ends.

The most notable aspect of the Pellet Posy is, without any doubt, the namesake pellet that takes the place of a pistil. This pellet is due to the crystallisation of nectar within the plant, and it is loaded to the brim with nutrients. The colour and size of this pellet depend on the subspecies of the posy. The size can be one of four 'numbers': 1, 5, 10, or 20. The available colours match those of the five onion-owning Pikmin species: red, yellow, blue, grey, and pink. Some Posies will be only a single colour, while others will cycle through the five colours depending on what types of activated onions are nearby.

LOCATIONS

Pellet Posies demonstrate an astounding ability to live in all sorts of climates, despite not exhibiting any difference in physical traits. They grow just as well in arctic areas such as the Valley of Repose and the Distant Tundra, as they do in tropical climates like the Perplexing Pool and Tropical Wilds. The location of each Posey will not directly affect the colour or size of the pellet. Some may even grow in shallow water. The only places they can not be found is in deep water and underground.

NOTABLE BIOLOGY

The most well-known aspect of this plant is the aforementioned pellet, created by a unique method of crystallising the nectar within it. This is, however, not the only notable part about the plant.

Its stem contains muscle fibres much like those on an animal, revealing that it is not a 'true plant' at all but instead a plant-animal hybrid much like the famous Pikmin (see, 'Pikmin'). In fact, its DNA structure is all but identical to that of the Pikmin, with mono-colour Poseys matching near perfectly. While it isn't clear how exactly Pikmin evolved in such a manner, this would explain why Pikmin and Pellet Poseys seem so clearly connected.

REPRODUCTION

Despite their animal/plant hybrid nature, their methods of reproducing are very similar to regular old plants. The pellets function much like seeds, and they rely on non-Pikmin creatures consuming the crystallised nectar. Once the creature digests the pellet, tiny seeds are left behind. When these seeds are excreted, they will grow in the new spot immediately and bloom within a day.

These seeds can be consumed by flying creatures that may excrete them while migrating, resulting in the seeds growing just about anywhere. This is usually how submerged Poseys are grown.

OTHER NOTES

Remains of sharp spines, much like thorns on a rose, can be seen with special equipment. It is possible that Pellet Posies originally grew thorns on their stems as means of defence, but lost them after it proved useful for reproduction to allow animals to eat them.

NOTES FROM OTHER RESEARCHERS

Pellet Posey -

The symbiotic relationship this plant (?) has with the Pikmin is astounding! I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that they evolved specifically to help populate Pikmin. Which makes it helpful to us too! Not to mention all the other creatures it feeds. It's so impressive! - Alph

I always wanted to see a flower that could change its colours so quickly! But I never thought it would actually happen though. They're so pretty that I must plant some in my own garden as soon as I get home! My zoologist friend says she really wants to give me one. Judging by her blushing and stuttering, however, I believe she has... different motives. - Brittany (Emily's Notes: Oh my goodness, why did you have to mention me...?)

It's like an infinite source of refreshments for our troops! I can tell you from experience that sometimes your troops can't easily get all the food they need once they're out on a mission. I myself have felt starvation more than any person should. But our Pikmin will never have to worry about that! If only we could say the same for Koppai... - Captain Charlie

(1) As Pikmin cannot be considered either animal or plant, it becomes evident that classifying them into either Kingdom becomes impossible. Due to arguments from both sides, it has been decided to put Pikmin and anything related to them into their own separate Kingdom.

Author Notes - Just randomly remembered that I had Emily crush on Brittany, and I figured that I should probably go back to that. The 'sharp spine' thing is a reference to earlier versions of Pikmin, where (according to early trailers) the Poseys would indeed have thorns.

By the by, make sure you've got your Dream Material cos we doing Anode Beetles next!
