Summary:
Venice is referred to as the city of love. Can it be that for Shibayama Junpei and Kanbara Takuya?
Chapter 2
Izumi surprised both Junpei and Takuya with news she'd be in Venice briefly for a photo gig. The text was only sent to Junpei, naturally. She had no foreknowledge that Takuya's soccer team was in the country to play their games, that Takuya had ended up injured, or that the update she gave Takuya on Junpei's singing career had placed Takuya where Junpei previously fantasized Izumi herself would one day end up.
"Previously" being the pivotal word.
"Go tell her how you feel, Junpei!" Takuya gave Junpei a big thumbs-up before he set off to meet Izumi.
Takuya swore he was okay, but Junpei wasn't convinced.
Takuya coming to his shows…The gondola rides along the Grand Canal…The gelato…These weren't dreams either of them dreamed up.
They may have drank recklessly that first night, but it was just the first night. And even immediately after the first night, neither regretted the magic that'd transpired.
Junpei thought the love that'd outshone his love towards Izumi was mutual.
So why was Takuya trying so hard to get rid of him?
The mistake Junpei made with Izumi was he beat around the bush. She knew he was attracted to her, but it was always as a somewhat creepy, stalkerish crush, hence she never really took his feelings seriously.
It was a mistake he had no patience to prolong any longer.
When he made it home to his apartment, Takuya was waiting for him. Sitting on his bed, injured leg still in his walking boot.
"How'd it go?"
"I told her."
"You did? Way to go! I knew you could do it, Junpei!" Takuya shook his fists keenly. Ingenuous. Not an ember of pain on his face.
Damn. Takuya's genuine excitement for him hurt.
"I told her about us."
Takuya quit bouncing and celebrating. "Huh? You told her what?"
"I told her about us. Everything."
"You –"
"I told her I love you, Takuya. I told her I loved her once. I told her I still love her. But I told her that I can't throw aside what happened, and that I love you more."
"Junpei…"
"I don't know if this is as real to you as it is to me! I only know I can't give it – can't give you up! Not after everything we've been doing!"
There was the fortissimo.
There was his opera training!
Stunned, Takuya stared down at his feet. "Oi, what am I supposed to say to that?"
Junpei didn't respond.
"Except," Takuya paused and unexpectedly brightened back up, "I'm honoured!"
"T-Takuya?"
"Let's go somewhere!"
"S-somewhere?" Junpei heaved Takuya onto his back. "Where, Takuya?"
"Anywhere, Junpei! As long as it's with you!"
