Reception to follow
Lorelai was in Patty's studio getting ready for her big day. She was excited that this day had finally arrived. Her mother, Emily Gilmore was also helping her with the final touchup. Something new? Lorelai then felt for the sapphire necklace dangling on her neck. It was the necklace Liz gave her a few months ago as a wedding gift. Check! She internally thought. Something blue? Well, this is a sapphire necklace so this could also be my something blue, check! Something borrowed? Lorelai then reached for the tiara atop her head which Emily gave her for that day. According to her mother, it was the same tiara she wore when she wed her dad. Check! Just after doing the inventory on her head, she heard a knock on the door.
"Are you ready for your close-up, Mrs. Danes? Every person in Stars Hallow are already seated and waiting for you to strut on the catwalk." Rory asked who just came from the outside to check if everything was ready.
Lorelai took a deep breath while checking her overall look in the mirror. "10 minutes 'til showtime?" She excited asked her daughter. She then held the gown on both hands then started walking outside the studio.
It was perfect, just the way she imagined it. She wasn't the type of girl who dreamt of her perfect wedding. But when she met the man she was supposed to spend the rest of her life with, everything clicked. The venue, the decorations, flowers, music, every last detail. She was happy with the sight in front of her. They were all gathered there, the people who meant most to her were gathered to celebrate this special occasion, their special occasion.
She slowly made her made to the town square and met with her father.
"You are the most beautiful bride I have ever seen." Richard admired when he saw her daughter walking towards him.
"You better not share that information with mom," Lorelai replied.
"Well, it is true, you are the most beautiful bride. Your mom, however, was perfect." Richard chuckled then took his daughter's hand and looped it around his arm.
"Hey, dad."
"Yes, Lorelai?"
"Just promise me you won't let me fall?" She requested to her father.
"I've got you, baby. Always and forever." Richard then placed a soft kiss on Lorelai's head. "Are you ready to get this wedding started?"
Just when Richard said this, the string quartet played the wedding march.
Lorelai never thought that this day would happen. After today she will be Mrs. Lorelai Victoria Gilmore-Danes. Their relationship was no easy feat. Between the scrupulous eyes of their fellow townies, to her parents' initial dismissal of their relationship, she was proud that after almost a year and a half, they proved everything wrong. Here they are right now, about to proclaim their love for one another in front of the people who mean so much to them. This was the dream. The dream she never thought she had.
Luke was standing under the chuppah he made for Lorelai. All this time, he thought that the chuppah he made for her would be a mere garden ornament, but here it was proudly displayed on the town square in front of the steps to the gazebo. He wore a black tuxedo, something he thought he'd never wear, but for the love of his life, he would do anything, hence penguin suit for the wedding it is. He watched as Lorelai slowly walked down the aisle with her arms looped around Richard. She was beautiful, breathtaking, perfect. There were no other adjectives to describe how radiant and lovely Lorelai made as a bride. It was then that Luke noticed mists forming in his eyes. He could not believe in a million years that this day would happen, and it all started during his Uncle Louie's funeral.
Both Luke and Lorelai knew that Louie's funeral was the catalyst for change in their relationship. Lorelai was the only person there on Luke's side during the burial of his uncle, and at that exact moment, he knew Lorelai would be family. Weeks after the funeral, they spent more time together in the diner, talking about Lorelai finally opening her own inn, about Rory, and about the new relationship that they both knew would be her forever. In between cups of coffee and burger munching, they'd continue to tease each other and share their deepest dreams and fears.
With how the relationship was going, Lorelai knew this was different, so it did not surprise her eight months of dating was enough for her to decide that she has found The One. The one she was supposed to spend the rest of her life with, her forever. It wasn't that she was not scared that everything seemed so easy and perfect, but her gut told her he was the one.
One winter night, she asked for the heaven above for a sign, two signs actually, to cement her gut-feel that this was the man she was going to marry. First, if the first snow falls tonight, and second if he would give her pie. Not just any other pie, but it should be half boysenberry, half peach. She thought that if she were to rely on signs to make the biggest decision of her life, she should make it less predictable. An hour after, she heard the doorbell. There he was on her porch holding a box of sweets. Pie, maybe? She then slowly opened the box with quivering hands and was taken aback when she saw the contents -half boysenberry and half peach.
He schooled her features, seeming that Lorelai wasn't that happy with the contents of the box. "I couldn't decide if it was a boysenberry or peach pie night, so I thought that I'd bring you both. Is it okay?" He told her.
Still trying to process what to say next, Lorelai then looked up to him and said, "It's perfect." One out of two. She thought to herself. She then reached to kiss him softly on the lips. Once their kiss was broken, her attention shifted to what she saw behind him. "Two out of two." She whispered as she saw white flakes dancing in the sky.
"What?" He seemed not to hear what Lorelai said.
"Will you marry me?" Lorelai was surprised by what she just said, but she was not prepared for his answer.
"A million times, yes!" He said, grabbed her, and gave her a proper kiss for their sudden engagement.
Who would have thought that Lorelai would turn into a bridezilla? With the wedding just around the corner, it seems that nobody could pacify her except one thing, one person -Luke.
"Would you just pick a damn color for the wedding? How hard could be?" Luke's patience was wearing thin at this point.
"Luke, the damn color sets the theme for the entire wedding. It's not just choosing between red or blue or yellow. It's not paint colors." Lorelai retorted.
Luke counted from one to ten in his head. He knew that Lorelai was being stubborn because she just wanted everything to be perfect. Deciding the be more patient with her, he helped the best way he could. "Okay, close your eyes." Lorelai heeded then closed her eyes.
"Imagine you're walking down the aisle; the guests are looking at you. You then smile at them while walking. You then turn your attention to your bridesmaids, what color do you see them wearing? What are the colors of the ribbons behind each guest's chair?"
Lorelai concentrated on the image while Luke patiently waited for her to answer. "Cream," Lorelai said.
"There you go! Was that so hard?" Luke said then rolled her eyes at Lorelai. She then gave him her full-watt smile and he smiled in return.
After picking the color for their wedding, everything seemed to fall right into place. The venue, no brainer -Stars Hollow gazebo. Food care of Sookie. Maid of honor, duh. Gown, check! Music, check! Photographer, check! Everything was given a big yellow start for excellence and Lorelai felt that her wedding will be perfect. She was glad that Luke was there every step of the way to help her decide on the important aspects of the wedding. Luke was there, every moment she needed him. Hell, even during the times she didn't. He wanted everything to be perfect as well -for her. It was the start of the forever she didn't know she wanted. White picket fence, matching tracksuit… the middle. Just then, Luke thought that the chuppah would be a perfect addition to the wedding venue, and Lorelai hugged him for coming up with that idea.
Luke broke out of his reverie and once again, appreciated Lorelai walking closer and closer to him. Lorelai saw how handsome Luke was, then gave him a smile that she knew he loved. It was then she noticed some tears forming around her eyes. She was happy and sentimental at the same time, and there was only one man to thank for making her feel this way. She then brought her focus back to her groom. There he was standing so tall and handsome. She felt safe at the sight of him -Warren Danes, son of Louie Danes, long lost cousin of Luke Danes.
After Louie's funeral, both Luke and Lorelai were surprised by the post-funeral spread in the diner. It was to honor Louie's death, he says, it was the town's way of showing how much they love Luke, she says. After sharing some good Louie stories and having their fill of the meal, the crowd slowly faded. Luke was clearing up the diner, and Lorelai was helping him with the task. Just then, they heard the bells of the front door ring. Both gave each other a look, thinking who else would come in late at night.
"Are you Luke Danes?" The man dressed in suit and tie asked as he approached Luke towards the counter.
"Yeah, who are you?"
"I'm Warren. Warren Danes. I'm the son of Louie Danes, the deceased." Luke didn't know how to react to the information given to him. He was quiet for a long time which caused Lorelai to jump in to fill the silence.
"I thought Louie didn't have a family?" She asked the man. On first impression, Lorelai thought he was cute. Serious businessman or lawyer maybe, but cute no doubt.
"He and my mother had a short relationship. They broke up before my mom found out she was pregnant." Warren told them. "She knew how much Louie hated kids, so she thought it would be better not to tell Louie about me, less disappointment on my part, I guess. But when I confronted my mother about who my real dad is, she told me about Louie, and how negatively he felt about children. So, I decided not to tell my father I existed, but I kept tabs on him and used his name as well. I knew he lived in Florida and was doing okay. I was fine with that idea, it was enough for me. Last week, I was on a business trip to China. I just found out about Louie's death yesterday, asked around who arranged the funeral and everything. The funeral parlor told me that his nephew, Luke Danes shipped the body to Hartford and brought it to Stars Hallow." Warren explained. Luke was still trying to process everything. He had a cousin all this time, and he was not aware of it. Hell, Louie wasn't aware he had a son. Luke suddenly left the countered and went upstairs to his apartment.
Wanting to disrupt the awkwardness, Lorelai began to speak. "We were actually just cleaning up the last remains of the funeral spread," Lorelai told Warren. She was shocked by the sudden turn of events as well and didn't know how to proceed. "I.. uhh… sorry for your loss." It was the only thing she was able to say. Warren gave Lorelai a brief smile. "You want some coffee? We haven't cleaned the coffee maker yet. Though it has been sitting there for a couple of hours, it's still the best coffee in my opinion." Lorelai offered.
"Yeah, sure," Warren said and proceeded to sit on the counter.
Warren and Lorelai started talking and eventually found out how much they clicked. Warren had a sense of humor that could match Lorelai's quick wit. At the end of the night, Warren asked Lorelai for a date, and she agreed.
Their first date turned to second, then third, fourth until the number didn't matter anymore. Warren traveled back and forth from Boston to Stars Hallow just to spend time with Lorelai. In the interim, Luke was trying his best to be supportive of Lorelai's new relationship. She glowed every time he talked about Warren, and she seemed genuinely happy. It was also a plus that Warren seemed to like Rory and was amazed at the young woman. Luke and Warren also got to talk during his trips to Stars Hallow, and eventually became close as well. Warren asked Luke to look after Lorelai while he was in Boston, and he complied. Six months into dating Warren, Lorelai told Luke she loves Warren and that he loves her back.
When Lorelai proposed to Warren, the first thing they wanted to do was share the good news with their closest friend, Luke. They went to the diner and told him the news. He gave both a hug and wished them luck. It was then Luke finally raised the white flag, knowing that the Lorelai battle was a lost cause -that he lost her to his cousin. It was enough for him to be there for her and support her relationship with his cousin.
Warren was promoted in his job which meant a lot of traveling abroad. Lorelai wasn't entirely happy with his promotion especially now that they were in the middle of wedding preparations. Warren felt sorry for having to leave all the time, but he knew Luke was there to help Lorelai. Warren was family, Luke thought. He would do everything to help his family, and to make the woman he loves happy, even if it meant planning her wedding instead of theirs. Luke helped Lorelai with the wedding planning as best as he could, helping her in her indecisiveness. He even went with her during her first gown fitting. When he saw Lorelai come out of the dressing room, weaning the wedding gown, he was speechless at her beauty. "You're beautiful, perfect," Luke said while scolding himself internally for letting that slip.
As Lorelai was at least an arm's length, Warren stepped forward and took her hand from Richard. Lorelai gave her dad a kiss on the cheek before walking towards the chuppah. Both Lorelai and Warren approached the chuppah, but before reaching their destination, Lorelai turned to Luke, then gave her a hug.
"Welcome to the family," Luke whispered in her ear.
"Thank you for everything, Luke. This day wouldn't be perfect without you." Lorelai replied. Then gave him a smile.
"I just wanted to see you happy." Luke reached for Lorelai's hand and squeezed it. After which, Warren then took Lorelai's hand from Luke then continued their journey towards the chuppah and in front of the minister.
"Dearly beloved" The minister started. "We are gathered here today to witness the union of one Lorelai Gilmore and Warren Danes."
END.
