Note: This is a oneshot chapter for The Raccoons, and it will feature a character trying to prove a superstition wrong, only to fail miserably. Okay, let's get on with it.
Chapter 36: Cold Metal Pole
Bert Raccoon was walking through the Evergreen Forest on a cold winter day. The ringtail had nothing better to do, as it was a day off for him. He continued to walk through the area until he saw a metal pole sticking up in the air. He had heard rumors about how if someone were to stick his or her tongue to metal in cold weather, they would be stuck until help arrived.
"Oh, I don't believe that silly superstition!" Bert confidently said as he leaned his head near the pole. He then stuck out his tongue, letting the tastebuds come into contact with the metal. Before he could pull his tongue off, the ringtail found himself unable to get free. Alarmed, he started to scream, hoping that someone would hear him.
"I'm stuck!" Bert's voice was muffled.
Bentley came walking through, stopping in his tracks when he saw Bert stuck to the pole.
"Bert," Bentley sighed in annoyance, "did you try to prove that people can't get stuck to metal when they put their tongues on it?"
Bert nodded.
"Okay, let's see if I can get you off of there." The little boy grabbed Bert's back in an attempt to pull him off the pole. In response, Bert let out moans of pain as Bentley struggled to pull him off of the metal he was stuck to. After a minute of pulling on his friend, Bentley let go of him and started to walk off.
"I'll go get Uncle Ralph and Aunt Melissa!" Bentley shouted.
Bert sighed, knowing that it would be a while before anyone came to his aid. The raccoon waited, resisting the urge to fall asleep.
A few minutes later, and Bentley had come back with Ralph and Melissa. Melissa was carrying a teapot that was full of hot water. Bert winced, knowing that the water would burn his tongue. However, he knew that it was necessary for him to get free of the metal pole he was stuck to.
"Alright Bert, hold still!" Melissa said as she started to pour the water on the pole. Bert screamed as he felt the water scald his tongue, freeing it from the metal. Once he was freed, the taller raccoon covered his mouth.
"You okay now, Bert?" Bentley asked.
The older raccoon nodded, moaning in pain.
"That's what you get for sticking your tongue on metal during winter." Ralph said.
"Now that that's over, let's head back to the Raccoondominium for hot cocoa!" Melissa said.
"Yeah." Bert said.
Before any of them could go to the Raccoondominium, Ralph felt his tongue get stuck to the pole. Like Bert, he was unable to get himself free.
"Oh Ralph!" Melissa groaned.
"We should heat up some more water." Bentley said.
"Yeah." Bert said.
Ralph whimpered, knowing that he was about to have hot water poured over his tongue next. Today was not a good idea.
Note: Well, it's December, so getting your tongue stuck to metal if you're foolish enough is one of those things we can think of alongside Christmas. What did you guys think about this chapter? Let me know when you leave a review or give a constructive criticism. Until next time guys, peace!
