Note: Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! This chapter is just another simple crossover between The Raccoons & Loonatics. But, it's going to be a nice little story, so I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 46: Letters

It was just a hot summer day as Bentley Raccoon was reading a book by a brilliant scientist. This scientist was Tech E. Coyote, who had become famous for his studies in technology. His books had interested Bentley for quite some time, so he decided to write to the scientist. Without hesitation, the little boy began to write his letter.

Dear Dr. Coyote

Is that your preferred title? If it isn't, can you tell me what you would rather be called? Anyway, I'm quite a fan of your work, if you couldn't tell. I even have four of your books. My personal favorite of your books is How Different Will Technology Be in the Future? I have always been interested in technology, but I also like science fiction and futuristic stuff. I guess that you can consider me a nerd, but I like that about myself.

I haven't told you anything about myself, haven't I? I live with my mom, my dad, and my sister. My sister, Lisa, has become the girlfriend of my friend, Bert. As for my parents, my dad is still working at the station while my mom is still looking for a job. My aunt and uncle are writers for a newspaper called the Evergreen Standard. If you haven't read it, that's because you probably don't have access to it. I don't know everything about my other relatives, so I decided to just talk about my main relatives in this paragraph.

I'm going to attend the eighth grade when I enter school, even though I'm nine. Funny how I'm young and already in eighth grade, isn't it? I'm going to stop writing this letter and just give it to you. I hope you read it when you have the chance.

Signed,

Bentley Raccoon

After writing the letter, Bentley put it in an envelope. He then added a stamp, a return address label, and even wrote Dr. Coyote's address on the envelope. Upon doing that, the boy went out and put the letter on the mailbox, hoping that the mailman would take it to its destination. Being called in for dinner, Bentley went back in the house. As he ate dinner, the raccoon hoped that the scientist would write him back when he read his letter.

Two months had passed and Bentley was now in school. When he got home, he decided to do his homework before writing another letter to Dr. Coyote. The scientist still hadn't responded to his first letter, so the raccoon was going to write another one.

Dear Professor Coyote,

You haven't responded to my first letter, but that's okay. If you're busy, I can understand. After all, you are a scientist. I'm still kind of mad that you didn't sign my book when you were in the Evergreen Forest. I even asked you, but you said no. That's pretty mean, because you're one of my idols. I even want to be just like you.

Anyway, things are changing around me to the point that I wish I could slow down time. For starters, my aunt and uncle had a kid, so I've got a cousin now. Next to that, Bert got his arm broken. To make a long story short, some drunkard challenged him to a fight. Could you maybe write "Get Well Soon, Bert" on your letter if you respond to mine? Lisa is attending college, so I feel lonely sometimes. However, I can always just talk to my parents when I need to.

I read about your husband as well, is he doing okay now? I mean, he did get into that car accident a few weeks ago. However, stuff like that happens. I haven't been in a car wreck, so I wouldn't know what it would be like. Also, I really wish the papers wouldn't describe what the victim looks like after a wreck or show pictures of the victim. Don't you agree?

Anyway, I better head back to doing what I was before I began writing this letter.

Signed,

Bentley Raccoon

P.S. I saw you winking at Lisa during the book signing, I don't think Bert liked that.

Bentley wrote "Get Well Soon, Rev" near the bottom of the paper before putting it in an envelope. Like the first letter, he added a return address label, a stamp, and Dr. Coyote's address on the envelope. Putting it on the mailbox, the raccoon re-entered his house and went back up to his room. It was only a matter of time before he got a response.

It was now late December and New Year's Day was tomorrow. Bentley still hadn't gotten a response, so he was ready to write another letter. Before he could do so, Bert handed him an envelope.

"Here you go, little buddy!" Bert said.

"What is this?" Bentley asked as he looked at the envelope, opening it and pulling out a piece of paper.

Bentley unfolded the piece of paper, revealing it to be a letter.

Dear Bentley,

To begin, you can just call me Tech. You don't have to be formal when you write to me. Sorry if I didn't write to you when I got your letters, I must have been busy. I'm flattered that you're a fan of mine, and Rev's okay now. As for your friend, I wrote "Get Well Soon, Bert" near the bottom of the letter in order to help him feel better. I didn't know that your sister was with him. I should really stop winking at girls at book signings, Rev shares Bert's less-than-impressed attitude when I do that.

As for you, I hope that you're doing well in school. I also hope that your sister is doing okay in college. When you see your cousin, can you pat his head for me? Also, can you write more about your family when you write your letters? Sorry if I'm getting in your personal space, I just want to know about certain things. I remember speaking to your uncle when I signed his copy of the first book I wrote. I think I met your parents at the book signing, but I'm not sure.

I've heard about the Evergreen Standard, but I have yet to read it. I agree with you that newspapers shouldn't show pictures of victims of a car crash. You can say that about a victim of any horrible event. I can only imagine how your aunt and uncle would react to photographing a horribly mutilated body. You did mention that they are behind the Evergreen Forest, after all. Do you think that they're being overworked? If so, you should probably tell them to send out "Help Wanted" posters.

I hope that you have had a Merry Christmas and that you're ready for the new year.

Your friend,

Dr. Tech E. Coyote

Bentley smiled as he put the letter on his desk. He then went downstairs and waited for the countdown. When it was over, the new year had arrived. Bentley then went to bed, waiting for what awaited him in the next year. Come tomorrow, he was going to write another letter to Tech. After all, one good turn deserves another.

Note: Sweet, wasn't it? I hope that next year will be better than this one, mainly because the vaccine for COVID-19 is out. What did you guys think about this chapter? Let me know when you leave a review or give a constructive criticism stating what you like or what you don't like. Until next time guys, peace! Oh, and also, Happy New Year!
