Chapter 14

Frisk's fear was rampaging as he reached for the key in one of the pockets on his pants. He was sweating, with his brain trying to think of any believable lies that he could tell to Blooky. But he could not find any. He found no escape in this situation as he helplessly took the big key out of his pocket. Blooky held out one of his hands, which surprised Frisk as he did not clearly see Blooky's hands before. Frisk slowly placed the key on the palm of Blooky's hand. Blooky took out a black coloured bag out of his pocket and put the key inside it and put the bag back in his pocket. Blooky then closed the door behind him.

Blooky sighed. "Don't do this again. This key is very important to Toriel.. I'll tell you everything I can, but only if you promise not to steal this key again.."

"Okay, deal." Frisk said reluctantly. "I won't steal the key again. How'd you know that I had the key?"

"I heard the key rattling in your pocket when you went away."

"I see.."

"Well, it's a good thing that you handed the key over to me. This could have gotten you into trouble. But don't worry, I won't tell Toriel or anyone about it, but if you steal the key next time, I won't hesitate to tell everyone." Blooky said in a serious tone.

"Okay okay…. I get it… I won't steal the key again.."

"Good.. That's how it should be." Blooky said as he nodded in approval.

"Okay, now that I've done what you told me to do, now you have to tell me everything you know about the Underground." Frisk demanded.

"That's honestly a bit too-"

"Too much? Right, obviously. You monsters really love to keep secrets, don't you?"

"Um that's-"

Frisk screamed, "Enough! I've had it with you monsters deciding what's best for ME! Who are YOU to decide what's best for me and not? You may think that you're protecting me by hiding important stuff from me, but you know what you're actually doing to me? You're making me your prisoner! I'm just a prisoner who doesn't know anything about this wretched dimension…."

"Frisk… That's…. That's not true! There were… There were humans.. who fell here… before you did… and they all ended up dead or worse..." Blooky said with a look filled with horror.

Frisk was lost for words. He understood that they were trying to protect him from the Royal Guard. At this point, it was obvious to Frisk that the reason that the monsters have not told him anything is because they fear that he could end up just like the other fallen humans. Even though he knew it, he still wanted more freedom than anything else.

"Frisk… We can't lose you… We can't repeat our past mistakes... " Blooky said as he wiped the tears off his eyes. "We don't want you to die, Frisk..."

"Thank you, Blooky, I really am grateful for that… but I still wanna be free. I wanna see if I can escape… If I die trying, then so be it… I just can't spend my whole life living here..." Frisk replied as he looked into Blooky's eyes.

There was a silence between the two of them for a few minutes. Both of them were in deep thought. The awkward silence was broken when the front door was opened behind Blooky. Both of them glanced at the front door as Toriel entered the house. Toriel froze upon seeing both Frisk and Blooky, who were right in front of her.

"What are you two doing right here?" Toriel asked as she closed the door behind her.

"Um-I-It's nothing really." Blooky answered before Frisk could. "I was just leaving… Right, Frisk?"

"Y-Yeah, he was just leaving.." Frisk lied.

"Oh okay, have a good day then, Blooky.." Toriel said as she made way for Blooky to leave the house.

Blooky started walking towards the door and stopped when he got close to Toriel. He leaned towards Toriel as she lent her ear to him. He whispered something to her, which she responded by nodding. Frisk was not able to hear what Blooky whispered to Toriel. Blooky quickly opened the front door and left the house.

"What did he say?" Frisk asked in a curious tone.

"Oh-Uh… It's nothing." Toriel answered as she attempted to close the front door behind her.

Before Toriel could close the front door, a black bag landed near the front door. Frisk instantly recognized that the black bag belonged to Blooky. "Blooky must have thrown it here." Frisk thought. Toriel picked it up and opened it to see what was inside.

Frisk saw Toriel taking a big key out of the black bag. Frisk instantly recognized that it was the same key that Blooky took from him, the key that Toriel was searching for. The expression on Toriel's face changed into a cheerful face as soon as she saw the key. She was relieved to get the key back.

"I don't know who did this, but thank you, whoever found this and returned this to me. They're surely a life saver." Toriel said as she trotted into the living room with the key.

Frisk followed her, but was not able to catch up to her, which resulted in her closing the door and locking it as soon as she entered the living room.

"Toriel! Can you open up?" Frisk said as he knocked on the door.

"I'm sorry, but I can't… I'm busy..." Toriel answered.

"Please let me in! I wanna talk to you."

Frisk did not hear a sound inside the living room for a few moments. Just as he was about to knock on the door, he heard the sound of a door closing inside the living room. He could barely hear it. It seemed like Toriel wanted to keep the sound as quiet as she possibly could.

Frisk knew that Toriel was gone and made his way outside to get some fresh air. He was bathed in a cool, gentle breeze as he opened the front door of Toriel's house.

These fresh breezes are one of the only things that Frisk could truly appreciate from the Underground. He was surprised at the same time, because these natural conditions existed in the Underground. He walked around Toriel's garden as he enjoyed the fresh breezes of wind that caressed him. He wished that Jack and Rachel were there with him. The more he thought of them, the more he thought of going back to the Surface.

Frisk thought about a way to get the key back, but that would mean stealing the key from Toriel, which Frisk did not like to do. "There has to be another way. Another way to get out of here." Frisk thought as he walked slowly around the garden. He roamed around the garden, with his thoughts filling his head.

"Frisk! Frisk!" Frisk heard Toriel's voice calling him out.

"Yes? What is it?" Frisk answered Toriel's call loudly so she could hear his voice.

It did not take long for Toriel to reach where Frisk was, following the sound of his voice. She came from behind Frisk. He turned around to face her. The look on Toriel's face convinced Frisk that she was worried sick.

"Frisk! Don't go wandering around! Flowey could still be here! What if he got to you?" Toriel said in a worried tone.

"I deserve-" Frisk trailed off.

"Don't go anywhere without protection. Flowey must still be here! The seal is still not fixed yet! You should always stay at home in your room at all times."

"Stop treating me like a child! I'm a grown man! I'm 18 years old. I deserve freedom!"

"I'm doing this for your own good, Frisk! Why can't you get it? Are you serious about this?"

Frisk yelled,"yes, I am serious. DEAD SERIOUS!"

"Even after being cornered twice by Flowey, you STILL insist on getting out of here?"

"Yes, I INSIST! I don't wanna stay here even a second longer!"

"There are monsters who are even worse than Flowey on the other side! You'll die in an instant! So please! Don't go!" Toriel said as tears filled her eyes.

"I'm sorry, Toriel… But I can't stay here forever. It'll suffocate me if I do."

"Frisk… Please… Just please stay here. I promise to protect you all the time. I'll never let anyone hurt you…. So please…. Don't go…."

Frisk sighed. "Well… It's not like I have much of a choice. You're forcing me to stay here. So, I have to stay here, whether I like it or not."

"Frisk that's not-"

"True? Yes, it is true. You refuse to let me leave this place and keep me confined in the Ruins. So, yeah you are forcing me to stay here."

"Frisk I-" Toriel trailed off.

Frisk saw that Toriel was sobbing so much that she could not talk. He did not understand why the goat monster cared about him so much. A part of him felt sorry for Toriel, who was sobbing. But he wanted to be free more than anything. He knew that he could not stay at the same place for a long time.

"Tori-" Frisk trailed off as he was interrupted by whistling noise in the distance.

"Oh… Something's….. happened. I... must go." Toriel said as she wiped her tears. She was trying her best to stop her sobbing.

Frisk stared at Toriel as she quickly walked away into the distance. He decided to follow her once there was a good amount of distance between them.

The whistling noise kept repeating, with an interval of five seconds. Toriel followed the direction that the sound came from, with Frisk following her.

After a few minutes of walking around the place like it was some kind of a maze, Toriel stopped to pick up a metallic object that was on the ground. It made the whistling noise that both Frisk and Toriel had heard earlier.

Frisk could not get a good look at the metallic object that Toriel was holding. It looked like a knife, covered with metal. Toriel did something to it that made it stop making the whistling noise.

Toriel's phone started ringing right after she placed the metallic knife on a ruined platform. She quickly reached into her pocket and took the phone out.

"I-"

"ye-"

Frisk could not hear what Toriel was saying because he was too far away from her. He wanted to get closer to her without alerting her that he was there. It did not take long for Toriel to hang up the phone and start walking. Frisk followed her, keeping the same distance as he did before.

A few minutes passed and Toriel was back near her house. Frisk carefully got closer to her to hear what she says. A light yellow coloured lizard-like monster opened the front door and met up with Toriel. Frisk moved a little closer to hear what they were going to discuss about.

"Welcome again, Alphys..." Toriel greeted the yellow monster with a forced smile.

The signs of her sobbing still showed on her face. The light yellow monster grew concerned after seeing Toriel in such a state.

"Thank you… But… a-are you a-alright, Toriel?" Alphys finally talked.

"What? Yeah, ofcourse I am! why wouldn't I be?" Toriel said with a forced smile.

"Well… Okay… But are you really okay though? I think you've been through something." Alphys asked with a curious tone.

"I really am okay!" Toriel lied as she continued forcing a fake smile on her face. "Anyways… Can you come with me? I need you to look at the seal. I couldn't figure out what's wrong with it."

"O-o-okay. L-Let's go."

Both of them started walking, followed by Frisk. Frisk still kept a safe distance from both of them. Frisk hid behind ruined pieces of wall so that neither Toriel or Alphys could notice him. He moved from one ruined piece of wall to another as he moved forward, following the two monsters.

It did not take long for them to arrive at the place where the seal was. There were already some monsters who were guarding the seal. Alphys quickly examined the seal and then her eyes widened.

"Wow… I-I-I've n-never seen this before… T-this… T-This is bad." Alphys said as she tried her best to control her shaking.

"What happened, Alphys? What's wrong? What's wrong with the seal? Did you find out how Flowey destroyed it?" Toriel asked curiously.

Alphys shook her head and tried her best to calm herself down. When she calmed herself down, she held the seal.

"F-F-Flowey wasn't t-the one who damaged t-the seal. W-whatever damaged t-the s-seal is n-neither a m-monster or h-human..."
