Note: As another song-based chapter, I decided to choose a song this time around. I probably should have asked what song you, my followers, wanted me to use, but I had an idea that was on my head for a while. As a fair warning before we begin, you might cry as you read it. I can't guarantee that, but you might. Anyway, here we go.

Chapter 75: '39

A cobalt blue vixen was walking down the beach of Cape Claw. It had been a month since Sauria, the planet she was on, was saved from destruction. All it took was to put the SpellStones back to their rightful place and to return the Krazoa to the Palace, where they resided for the time being. Despite that, the vixen felt sad. It had been six months since her home planet, Cerinia, was destroyed by Venom's forces. While Sauria was her new home for the time being, the young woman got teary-eyed as she remembered how her original home was violently blown up. She could only hope for the survival of her people, assuming that there were others survivors in ships, as she looked out at the horizon.

In the year of '39 assembled here the volunteers

In the days when the lands were few

Here the ship sailed out into the blue and sunny morn

The sweetest sight ever seen.

The vixen's name was Krystal, and she was an ambassador from Cerinia to Sauria. It was early fall in the year of 2139, but the weather didn't bother her. What bothered Krystal was that, in spite of her training to have her telepathy grow stronger, she didn't know if there were any survivors from Cerinia's destruction. Months before the planet blew up, a few of her fellow Cerinians had volunteered to travel to other planets to see what ones would take them. The cobalt vixen had a bad feeling about it, seeing as some civilizations didn't think highly of Cerinia. She looked down on the sand, letting some tears drop to it.

And the night followed day

And the storytellers say

That the score brave souls inside

For many a lonely day sailed across the milky seas

Never looked back, never feared, never cried.

Krystal wiped the tears from her eyes, hoping that the members of her race who were brave, if not foolish, enough to go through with their mission had survived. The cobalt vixen continued to walk down the beach, occasionally saying hi to the occasional EarthWalker or ThornTail who came her way. It brought her out of her funk, somewhat. She even smiled at Tricky and Kyte when they saw her and spoke with her. Continuing walking on the sand, Krystal looked down and saw something written in it. This was something she never thought she'd see again.

Don't you hear my call though you're many years away

Don't you hear me calling you

Write your letters in the sand

For the day I take your hand

In the land that our grandchildren knew.

In the sand was a poem describing Sauria. It was twelve lines long and followed a conventional rhyme scheme. At the end was a line asking if someone would help the writer and make them feel better.

I wrote this when I came to Sauria. Krystal thought to herself, feeling her eyes water again.

In the year of '39 came a ship in from the blue

The volunteers came home that day

And they bring good news of a world so newly born

Though their hearts so heavily weigh

Krystal then thought about thepeople who were willing to help her save Sauria: a mercenary team known as Star Fox. She had heard rumors about them before, so it was a pleasure to meet their acquaintanceship. However, in spite of their help, the cobalt vixen decided to stay on Sauria for a little bit longer while Star Fox, who wound up volunteering to help prevent Sauria's destruction, returned to Corneria as heroes. Before they went back to the planet, they had received new information about Sauria and the deceased Cerinia fromher. Krystal waited for Star Fox to show up, as it was the day they would pick her up. To her happiness, the Great Fox landed on the beach.

For the earth is old and grey, little darling well away

But my love this cannot be

For so many years have gone though I'm older but a year

Your mother's eyes from your eyes cry to me.

Her smile shrinking, Krystal could feel her happiness somewhat fade. Each planet in the Lylat System had a different time zone, so that made it possible for days, weeks, and maybe years, to pass by Sauria quicker. Despite that, the cobalt vixen still waited for the team to come out, being greeted by Falco Lombardi, Star Fox's ace pilot, and Slippy Toad, the engineer for Star Fox. The two complimented her, reluctantly in Falco's case, and made her blush, causing her to look down at the poem she wrote in the sand. The Cerinian looked at it until she heard someone speak to her.

"Did you write that?"

Don't you hear my call though you're many years away

Don't you hear me calling you

Write your letters in the sand

For the day I take your hand

In the land that our grandchildren knew.

Looking up, Krystal saw the team's leader, Fox McCloud, looking at her.

"Yes," she answered, "why do you ask?"

"I've written stuff like that before." Fox said. "Like you, I've always wanted someone special to read it, but now I've found someone who's not all that different from me."

Don't you hear my call though you're many years away

Don't you hear me calling you

All your letters in the sand cannot heal me like your hand

"Thanks," Krystal said, "no one has ever complimented anything I wrote in the sand before. My father even told me that I was weird. Despite that, I still miss Cerinia and I hope to find someway to really feel better about it."

Fox took her hand and looked into her eyes.

"My team and I will make you feel better." He said. "The same goes for all of our allies."

For my life

Still ahead

Pity me.

Krystal smiled as tears welled up into her eyes, hugging Fox.

"Are you ready to go?" He asked.

"Yes." She answered.

Star Fox had gotten finished loading Krystal's luggage into the Great Fox, putting it into what would become her bedroom. The cobalt vixen entered it, laying down on the bed that would be hers from now on. Falling asleep, the Cerinian thought to herself.

2139 might be a bad year so far, her thoughts went through her mind, but I have a feeling that it might get better.

Note: Okay, this chapter might be more heartwarming than tearjerking, but the song I used is still pretty sad. Given how Brian May, the brilliant man who wrote the song, is an astrophysicist, I felt that this song would go perfectly with a Star Fox story. I recommend listening to it when you have the time. Until next time guys, this is Newcomer24, signing off. Peace!
