Chapter 11
In the morning, Olivia brought Stephanie back to the precinct and let her have the small interrogation room to herself. Doctor Huang promised to be in to see if he could get more information out of her in a little while. Then she looked at the board that Kenny had set up.
"TARU hasn't finished with the laptop yet but they have identified some sort of ring. Nothing hanky panky though. It seems to be consenting adults setting up adult play dates. It could just have been the folks that Alan was hanging out with," Kenny explained.
"Then why did Linda hide it?" Olivia raised an eyebrow.
"Well there are some password protected files…" he let that thought hang there.
"That'll do it," Olivia frowned.
"We're not sure if Alan knew about them but even if he did we probably won't be able to prove it," Kenny shook his head.
"Somehow I don't think Alan is completely clean but at the same time, I don't think he was abusing Stephanie. She seems completely enamored with Alan and was incredibly upset that he was dead. Linda on the other hand, she could definitely do without," she said.
"The world is a better place with that lady locked up," Fin piped up as he walked into the bullpen.
"I would agree. Any word from Melinda?" Olivia asked.
"Nothing yet. She was hoping a rush on the tox screen would get us something," he told her.
"Let's hope so. Elliot said you guys found something else at James' apartment?" She wondered.
"In his file cabinet. We've got the forensic accountant looking at it now. Its insurance paperwork and financial reports which look like life insurance, so it's pretty Greek to me," Fin admitted.
"There they are. Where's Elliot?" Munch asked as he entered the bullpen with the Captain in tow.
"Right behind you. Figured we'd need the coffee," Elliot said, his hands full of cup carriers and hot cups of coffee.
"You mean my swill isn't good enough for you?" The Sergeant asked.
"Make a fresh pot, it's going to be a long day," Olivia winked at him. The elder man went to the coffee pot and got working.
"So Munch brought me up to speed. We've got a doozy don't we?" Cragen asked.
"Yes. Hopefully, Stephanie's sister will be in later today so she has someone who can take care of her," Olivia said.
"We've handed Linda off to Cabot. She's got her dead to rights on the murder of Alan so we can firm up the rest of the case while she handles that. I just can't shake the feeling that most people around Stephanie were just using her," Cragen told them all as Elliot handed out the coffee to everyone.
"So far we don't have any evidence that they weren't using her," Olivia heaved a sigh. That's when Doctor Huang walked into the bullpen. Olivia quickly brought him up to speed before they headed into the small interrogation room to speak with Stephanie.
"Kenny, lean on TARU. We could have more sickos out there and we don't even know it. Fin, lean on Melinda. We need to know what happened to James Lorigo," the Captain ordered. The two detectives quickly grabbed their phones and started making phone calls.
"Elliot, my office," with that Cragen headed into his private space. Stabler gave Munch a look and the Sergeant had a look on his face that made Elliot wonder. What had been going on with the Captain? How did it come down on him?
