At the school, Luz went though some of her classes and it was now time for lunch. When she got there, she was shocked to see that students seem to stay away from each other based on their species. Demons and Vampires sat on one side, witches sat on another, werewolves sat at another, and so on. None of them seemed to be interested in speaking with anyone but their own respective species. Luz felt her arms get grabbed and saw Boscha and Skara pulling her.
"Alright, new kid, you're going to need to learn that most of those creatures don't like being stared at." Boscha said.
They sat her at a table with some other people. Luz noticed that there was Amity, a girl in a dark green Uniform, and a boy in a light blue uniform.
"So, this is the new girl?" The girl in the Plant Track uniform asked.
"Yep, she's the daughter of the person that built the school." Boscha said.
"Oh, a big girl." The boy said, "Hi, I'm Gus."
"And I'm Willow."
"Nice to meet you." Luz said, "So, maybe you can tell me about what the matter is. Why does everyone seem to hate each other?"
"Oh... that dates back a long time ago, even before humans became the main species." Willow said, "There was a power struggle between the groups, all wanting to become the dominant species of earth, while Humans had only begun to migrate out of Africa, wars were being raged between every witch, demon, vampire, ghost, werewolf, and several others. Since we're all in hiding, you can tell who won."
"Humans." Luz said.
"Yeah, because they weren't in any war, and were focused on survival, every supernatural creature just left them alone, this allowed them to evolve and eventually took over. Due to the war being lost on every side, each group hates the other for the losses they had."
"Wait, so that's the big problem?" Luz asked, "A war that no one here was even involved in?"
"The war lasted over a thousand years, can't make our world forget that." Skara said, "Prejudice is rooted deep in things like that. I mean, look at me, when I'm in town posing as a human, I've faced ridicule for my skin tone."
"Yeah, I know how you feel." Luz said, having to deal with that as well, "But, we can fix this. We're the future, we can end this hatred once and for all."
"Luz, that's a lot of work, and something that no one can do by themselves." Amity said.
"Maybe not, but that doesn't mean I can't try." Luz said, "Besides, I like to see the good in people. I know the students here are good people, I'm sure they want to move on from the past as well."
"Well, you better know what you're getting into." Boscha said, "And be careful, rumor is that there's a group of monster hunters that have been spotted near the school."
"You're being paranoid, Boscha, no one will find this place." Skara said.
