Where's Danvers Original
Chapter 1 —
Kara sat on the couch and sneezed, her eyes closing as her head jerked. "Aleeeex!" she whined, her nose red as she moved the tissue away. "Aleeex,"
Alex came waddling in with her hand on her lower back and on her stomach. "Kara, please shut up. I am twenty-five weeks pregnant. I struggle breathing sometimes because of your niece," Alex snapped as she came into view. Kara winced and whispered to Alex's stomach:
"I hope your temper is not like Mama Danvers," she whispered. Alex almost growled as she shoved Kara away. Kara let out a squeal as she fell backwards and onto her butt. She sneezed again and her hair fell over her face. Alex laughed at her face she pulled and waddled to the kitchen; she got two glasses off water.
"Come on Superdork. Let's get some- ahh!" cried Alex. Kara quickly came over and held Alex's hand and placed her other hand on Alex's lower back. "Crap! Crap! Stupid frickin' kid. Stop - ow - you're hurting your mom!" she said, in a considerable amount of pain. After a few minutes they stopped and that's when the two woman found Alex had dropped the glasses of water. Alex glared at the floor and let out a breath of frustration.
"Hey, it's okay Alex," Kara said, she did sound a little funny with a blocked nose. "Just- just sit down and I will clean this up. It's ...2:55 so Ruby should be leaving school now. Then, fifteen minutes later your amazing girlfriend will be here," Alex scoffed and sat down.
"We know that Ruby hates me," Alex muttered as she laid down. Kara softened and carefully picked the glass up — remember Kara, no powers, that's why you have this cold, she told herself.
"Ruby does not hate you," she scoffed, accidentally picking herself with a small shard of glass. She sucked her thumb and the blood went away. "She's just…. Adjusting," Alex let out a humorless laugh.
"Adjusting. Really? She can't stand to be alone in the same room as me, Kara, and-and I don't want her to hate me because I really like Sam. Like, I really like her and I want her daughter to like me too," Alex said in desperation.
Sam and Alex have been going out for two yearsand Ruby has been pulling away from Agent Danvers ever since. It's now gotten to a point of if Sam has to go do something and it's just Alex and Ruby in the apartment, Ruby will either leave to go to a friends house or lock herself in her bedroom. Alex hasn't spoken to Sam about it because she doesn't want anything to jeopardise anyone's relationship.
However, it hurts.
"Alex, you are amazing. Okay. Now, Sam hasn't been in a relationship before. Has she? You are the first and before that it was Sam and Ruby against the world. Now here you are. Amazing Alex Danvers, her moms girlfriend, is now in the picture. Semi living with them," Kara explained as she gave Alex a new glass of water.
Alex looked thoughtful and nodded. "Since when did you get so wise?" she asked playfully. Kara blushed and waved her hand.
"Puh-lease. I've always been this smart," she laughed. Alex smiled at her sister.
The door slammed shut and that made Alex and Kara jump awake. Alex looked around, instinctively reaching for a gun she hid under the sofa, just to find Ruby walking to the sink. "Where's the fire?" mumbled Kara as she rubbed sleep out her eyes. She let out a little cough due to her dry and sore throat.
"No fire. Just a grumpy teenager," muttered Alex, no different from yesterday, or the day before. "What's the matter Ruby?" she asked.
Ruby shook her head. "Nothing. When is mom getting home?" she asked, not making eye contact with Alex. Alex checked her phone.
"Thirteen minutes," she replied. Ruby said okay and went to do some homework in her room. "You're welcome!" Alex called out after you. Kara held in a laugh at the show. "What?"
"Nothing. It just reminded me of seventeen year old Alex Danvers," Kara responded before going into the bedroom and talking to Ruby. Alex looked taken aback.
"I was not that bad!" she yelled out to Kara. The Kryptonian replied with:
"Tell that to Eliza!" Alex grumbled and relaxed into the sofa again…. she got comfy when the baby decided to use her bladder as a pillow. Alex groaned again and stood up to go to the bathroom.
"Your niece is getting in my nerves today Kara!" she said to her sister. Alex distinctly heard Kara laughing and Ruby trying to hold in her laughter. "So my misery gets the Girl of Moods to laugh. Brilliant," she mused with a sarcastic smile on her face.
It was actually around twenty minutes later when Sam came in from work. "Kara, tell your girlfriend that I have no idea how she did that on her own!" Sam called as she walked into her girlfriends apartment.
"Kara and Ruby have gone to the store," Alex from her position on the couch. Sam walked over and sat next to Alex. "Hey," she greeted, leaning up to give her a kiss.
"Hi," Sam replied, lifting Alexs shirt up so she could press her hands over her girlfriends belly. Alex smiled, faintly, as her girlfriend leaned down to speak to their child. "How's my little aubergine?" Alex burst out in laughter at that.
"Aubergine?" she said in fits out laughter. Sam looked at her girlfriend with an open mouth as she slowly formed a smile.
"Yeah," Sam replied as she moved away. "I googled it. Apparently, at 25 weeks it looks like an aubergine," she saw the look on Alex's face and started to laugh at it.
"Our child is not a fruit,"
"Good job too," called a voice from the door. The two older women turned to see Kara scrunch her face up. "My niece will not look like a fruit ...or vegetable," Kara made a show of shuddering and made Ruby laugh.
"If you ever got pregnant your kid would look like a potsticker or a sticky bun," Alex shot back. Kara pouted before launching one of the many packets of super noodles she bought at Alex's head only for Sam to reach out and slap the packets away. "Aw. Thanks babe. At least someone likes me," she sent a look to Kara who pouted again.
"What about me!?" Kara asked as she put some stuff in the cupboards and fridge (Sam threw the noodles at the back of Kara's head, hitting her target. Kara glared at her but Sam was too busy laughing).
"You're irrelevant Aunt Kara," Ruby said with a smirk.
"I'll show you irrelevant," Kara mumbled with a playful glint. She spun around quickly and sprayed Ruby with water before grabbing the cup she just filled and pouring half on Alex and Sam.
They both groaned and Sam looked funniest where Alex looked angriest. Sam stood there in a white shirt that was now soaked with water, her brown hair was as straight as a metal ruler and her black trousers clung to her like a koala. Alex, on the other hand, had water dripping down her face from her short hair. She was sat on the sofa so not much water went on her clothes so she just bore holes into Kara's body.
"Kara. If, (a) I wasn't pregnant and (b) you weren't a Kryptipnian, I would kill you," she said, her voice dangerously low. Kara laughed nervously.
"Heeey, Ruby, didn't you have that erm science question? About- about the planets. That circle the sun. In this solar system?" Kara asked as she backed out the room Ruby was quick on her heels after snapping a photo of her mom.
"Amazing," Ruby laughed.
"Alex. I am going to kill your sister. I don't care that she is Kryptonian," Sam said with a straight face. Alex held in a laugh as she stared at Sam.
"Babe …you do look like a drowned rat though," Sam groaned and walked off uncomfortably to the bathroom. Both Danvers sisters were going to pay and devilish smirk creeped onto the eldest Arias' face as she thought of a prank.
Around four hours later, another knock came at the door and Kara zoomed to go get it. "It's Lena then," Alex said as she stared at the her sisters happy face. True to that, the clicking of the heel filled the room and Lena Luthor face peeped into view.
"Aunt Lena!" Ruby yelled and then tackled the CEO into a hug. Lena hugged her back and Kara took her bag. "Aunt Lena, I got an A on my maths test!" she said excitedly. Lena had worked with her for three weeks on her maths skills and it's clear it paid off.
"Woah, well done Rubes!" Lena exclaimed as the teenager let go. Lena took her heels off and followed Kara to the couch before sitting on her. Kara turned red at her actions but didn't move her. "So, what were you all doing?" she asked as she looked at the paused the screen.
"We were watching a movie," Ruby spoke again. "It's a horror film," she added.
"Which you are watching against my better judgment," Sam interjected with a sideways glance to Alex; the latter just shrugged and shouted to get a little bit more comfortable.
"How's baby?" Lena asked, looking at Alex.
"Erm… okay. She keeps using my bladder as a trampoline *chuckles* and a punching bag, mind you. But hey, Mom is coming over tomorrow to check on things," Alex replied.
Sam pecked the corner of her mouth and rested her hand on Alex's tummy. "Oh my— she kicked!" Sam exclaimed in happiness.
Alex stared at her girlfriends happy face and her sisters excited face and Lena's amused face (she won't be just amused when it's her that's feeling a little aubergine kick) at her baby kicking. Well, her and Sams. Either way it feels all mushy. She risked a glance at Ruby from the corner of her eye and to her surprise, the youngest Arias had a ghostly smile on her face as she watched her mother light up.
That doesn't mean she is happy about this, a voice told her. She is just happy her mom is happy.
Alex looked away from the teen and turned back to Sam who was still lit up like a Christmas tree. "You know I love you," she whispered to the other brunette. Sam smiled at her and kissed her cheek.
"I know. I love you too," they spent another moment, just them, before Ruby called out.
"Are we going to finish this film?"
The next day, everyone woke up to find they had all fallen asleep on the sofa. Sam woke up second and found that her best friends and daughter were asleep in a blanket fort. She lifted the blanket up to find Ruby in the middle of her Aunts and she snapped a photo before realising Alex wasn't there. She knew that she woke up around six because she needed the loo.
"Alex?" she whispered, yawning and trying to make her hair more presentable. "Hey babe?"
"In here," she walked into the bathroom to find Alex was getting dressed. "Mornin' sleepy head," she greeted. Sam wrapped her arms around Alex's neck and thought her into a gentle hug.
"Hey," she replied, kissing her girlfriend and then kissing her pregnant belly. "Hello my daughter," she whispered. "You been keeping your mommy up?" she asked …only to receive a kick.
"That will be a yes," Alex murmured, still being mindful of the sleeping bodies in the next room. "What time is it?" Sam peered behind her to the clock above the cooker.
"Seven-fifty," she replied. Alex groaned. "What?"
"Kara has to be in work before half-seven on a Wednesday," Alex replied as she slowly made her way out to the living room area. Sams still sleepy brain caught up and she sighed.
"And Ruby has to be in school before half eight," she followed Alex and (after telling her to sit down in a scolding tone) kneeled down beside the sleeping girls. "Kara, Ruby. Wake up," she said softly. She brushed some hair out of her daughters face and rubbed Kara's arm — she knew that Lena could work from home so she tried not to wake her up. "Kaaaraaa. Ruuubesss," she dragged their names out and was rewarded by Ruby stiring and opening her eyes slowly.
"Morning mom," she said, her voice thick with sleep. As she stood up, she didn't realise that she was in the middle of Kara and Lena and accidentally stood on Kara's leg; tripping up and somehow landing on Lena.
Both women startled awake and Ruby quickly got off Lena. "I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed — over on the couch Alex was dying with laughter. Kara stood up – she wasn't hurt by what happened – and yelled in glee.
"I have my powers baaaack!" Lena, on the other hand, groaned and dug her face back into her pillow.
"Too early. That hurt," she mumbled, her voice hidden beneath the fluffy pillow. Kara smiled affectionately and picked her up bridal style effortlessly before carrying her to Alex's bed and tucking her in. She kissed her forehead and walked back to the others.
"Alex …shut up," she told her with an amused smirk of her own.
"Ruby, go and get dressed please. I put your clothes in the bathroom," she said.
Kara's eyes went almost comically wide. "Noooo. Shoot, Alex! Me and Lena were meant to go back to my apartment last night! Eliza was showing up!" Alex and Kara turned pale and the Kryptonians zoomed around the house; eating some food, sorting her hair out, before flying out the window.
"How long until she realizes she doesn't have her suit on?" Sam asked as she sat next to Alex.
"3… 2… 1-" just as she said that, the blond was back in the house and quickly walking out the door this time. "There's my sister for you," she said.
Kara came running up to her apartment and grabbed her door handle only to find it unlocked. When she opened it she found a sight that made her blink. J'onn and Eliza were eating breakfast, on her couch, watching the news on her television. "Uh. Hello," she said as she walked in and shut the door.
"Oh, Kara. How nice if you to join us," Eliza said without turning aroun. Kara laughed nervously.
"Yea-yeah," she stumbled. Eliza turned around stared at her daughter causing Kara to grow uncomfortable and fiddle with her fingers. "S-so. I am assuming my door was-was unlocked,"
"No, it wasn't. Your mother called me when you weren't answering your phone or your door. I came over and phased through the door and let her in," J'onn said. "I only knew you were alright because I found Alex's mind. She was angry that you poured water on her," Kara his a snort at what that looked like at the time.
"Kara," Eliza scolded.
"Sam threw noddles at me!" defended the alien. After a stern look from her adoptive mom Kara sighed. "After I threw them at Alex," she amended.
Eliza shook her head and walked off with an amused look on her face. "Sometimes I think you two really are related," she said mostly to herself. "Well, is my daughter going to make an appearance at all?" Kara nodded her head and hugged Eliza.
"Yes she is. She is just helping Sam," Kara replied.
"My heavily pregnant daughter is doing what?"Eliza asked. "She better not be doing anything strenuous,"
Kara back-pedalled. "No, no, no, no, no! She is sitting on the couch and filling in a form for Ruby's school trip in a few weeks," Kara amended. Eliza looked satisfied and calmed down a bit. Kara looked a little relieved and grabbed her phone.
Alex 3
Me: Alex! Get to my apartment before Eliza blows a gasket!
Alex: sorry but I can't be there as fast as you can! I have to walk or drive!
Me: get a move on Alexandra Danvers!
Alex rolled her eyes at Kara's melodramatic behavior and groaned as she sat up. "Sam! I need to go!" she called out to her girlfriend.
"Okay! Love you!" Sam called from the bathroom. Alex said she loved her back before grabbing her car keys and slowly walking to the door and leaving.
While she walked outside, she got a little feeling that she was being followed but brushed it off to her being paronoid and got into her car and sped off.
Alex thought of Sam. She thought of the family she would have in fifteen weeks. Their little star. Their Angel. Alex was a little worried about how Ruby would act given her behavior towards herself but when she saw the small smile on the teens face last night, she knew that Ruby would be as good as a sister to Baby-Darias (that was the Superfriends doing) as Alex is to Kara.
"Mom?" Alex called as she walked into Kara's loft. When she got in she saw her sister, mom and boss were watching …the Trueman Show? "Hey, what's going on in here?" she asked as she made her way to the couch at snails pace.
Eliza turned around and rushed to her daughter before bringing her in for a hug. Alex let out a small mind the bowling ball but relaxed into the hug. "How's my granddaughter?" she asked, speaking to the bump protruding from Alex's abdomen. Alex rolled her eyes at her mother speaking to her unborn granddaughter before her actual very alive and aching daughter. After a few seconds she spoke to her daughter. "And how's my daughter?"
"Alive and achy," she replied, listening to her thoughts. Eliza chuckled and helped her to the sofa.
"Yes, I understand that feeling. You were a pain!" she said. Alex turned a little red and glared at her mother when her back was turned. "Although I much rather prefer you then over your weird phase when you were sixteen and seventeen," she commented.
"I don't think anybody liked Alex when she was seventeen," Kara laughed. Alex scoffed.
"Says the girl that got the star quarterback arrested," she shot back.
"He was doing drugs!" retorted Kara.
"He was the star quarterback!" Alex reiterated.
"And? So what if he could through and catch a ball while running?" Kara asked. "Even though I accidentally found that out doesn't mean I didn't do any good!"
Alex went to speak again but closed her mouth. Good point. He might have been arrested but at least there is one more druggie off the street. Kara had a smug look on her face so Alex scowled and Kara did the mature thing and stuck her tongue out. "Girls, girls!" Eliza said as she walked back over to them. "Honestly," J'onn held in a laugh at the scene and just relaxed more into the cushions.
The bell for lunch rang out and Ruby sat under a tree in the shade and turned her phone on. Her friend Macey showed up and sat bedside her, getting her lunch out and started to eat her sandwich. "Hey Ruby," she greeted when the other teenager failed to say anything. Ruby jumped slightly and turned to see Macey next to her.
"Oh. Hi Macey," she replied, a slight blush tinting her cheeks as she caught the eye of Josh Cook. Macey rolled her eyes.
"Nope, that's Josh-" she put her fingers under Ruby's chin and turned her face to make her look at her. "- this is Macey," Ruby rolled her eyes and playfully pushed her friend.
"Shut up," she mumbled, flicking through Instagram. Macey peered over her shoulder as she scrolled to a photo her mother put online. It was a picture of Alex asleep with Kara asleep next to her. The blond was curled up with her head on Alex's thigh; she was facing the baby bump.
"Who's that?" Macey asked as she took another bite. Ruby replied after a moment.
"My Aunt Kara and her sister: Alex. That's my moms girlfriend. They are having a baby," Ruby said. Macey smiled as she looked at the photo.
"Bet they're well happy!" Macey exclaimed. "I've always wanted a little sibling — maybe a sister. But after my mom miscarried three years ago she didn't want to go through the pain again," Ruby felt sympathetic to that. "Are you excited?"
"I guess," Ruby shrugged, she didn't really know what to feel. When the baby was born, was her mom going to forget about her completely? She's never had to share her mom with anyone.
Macey saw her face and moved so she was kneeling in front of her. "Ruby, I would kill to have a baby sister. Your moms girlfriend or whatever is having one. The caption said twenty-five weeks so that's not long until she is born. You should be very happy because some women don't even get one child," she said. Macey started to pack her things away.
"Where are you going?" Ruby asked when Macey stood up.
"I-I just remembered that I told Ava that I would help her with homework. See you later Rube," Macey then walked off.
Ruby watched her go, confused, and then said to herself. "But we don't have homework," and sat by the tree sadly. She stared at another photo that was her mom and Alex grinning wide in a selfie. Her mom looked really happy. Ruby bit her lip before shoving her phone in her pocket and walking over to Josh and Callum. "Hey guys," she said.
"Ruby!" they greeted.
A woman stared as three woman walked out of an apartment. One blond, one old and one pregnant. The blond almost helping the preggers walk. The woman scoffed and watched them cross the road and get into a car.
"Soon you'll be mine," she told herself quietly.
"Miss Luthor. They're ready," said an agent as he walked closer to her. The woman gave a smile and clasped her hands together.
"Good work Miss GGraves. Alex Danvers will regret the day she crossed Lillian Luthor. Her and her alien puppet," she mused.
She then got into a black SUV and was driven off.
