Hello all.
This was an idea I had way back in December 2020. It came about because I wanted to continue some of the character's stories. Either I thought "hey, I think this character deserves a proper ending" or "this idea seems like fun, let's give it a shot."
As of writing this, I have seven stories planned. All will vary in length. This first story will be one of the longer ones. And, fair warning and obviously, since this is a sequel series, I would recommend first reading my competition series: Total Drama Legends.
Alright, I won't keep you waiting any longer. Enjoy!
Duncan breathed into his hands to keep warm. It was a cloudy morning and it had been snowing lightly. The air was cold, but Duncan didn't care. He looked up and reminded himself where he was. Just ahead of him, was his girlfriend's house.
He still couldn't believe it himself. He was dating a cop. The same dude who had spent nearly half a year in jail was in a relationship with a police officer. The two had gone through a rough journey to realize their feelings for each other, but still prevailed in the end. Out of everything that happened on the show, seeing his girlfriend get eliminated was the hardest thing he had to endure.
Once he was back home, The Ex-con could only think of seeing his girlfriend again. However, there was a problem. While he was gone, Duncan had missed a number of days off from his job. His boss was happy to have him back, and immediately had him start making up for lost hours. Thankfully, it was something Duncan enjoyed, but it was still a lot. He and Sanders were able to video chat and text, but that wasn't enough for him. He needed a break soon.
Finally, after a lot of convincing, his boss offered him the opportunity. He liked to fix up and sell old cars, on the side. One car, a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1, had been in his garage for over two years. He really wanted to get it running, but couldn't determine the issue with it. If Duncan could find the problem and fix it, in a week, he would be allowed the weekend off.
He only needed four days.
Now Duncan's hard work was about to pay off. He smiled to himself. Not just at the memory of getting the car fixed, but earning his weekend off. He opened his phone and started typing.
Hey, I'm here.
He waited a few seconds, before getting a message.
Great. I'll be ready in a bit. You can come inside, if you want. Just knock.
Duncan looked up at the door and was about to walk forward. Wait, why would I knock? Then he noticed the driveway. Two cars? Then realization hit him. Her dad's inside. He again typed something into his phone.
Nah, I'll wait out here until you're ready.
He could see Sanders was typing. The three dots blinked for a bit, before disappearing. Duncan was worried. He knew Sanders was aware about his feelings towards her dad and figured she'd say 'it's nothing to worry about.' Another ding came from his phone. He looked at his message.
Alright. I'll be out as soon as I can.
The Ex-con let out a sigh of relief. He was surprised to then hear the sound of a door opening and closing. He looked up excitedly. However, his mood, and his grin, immediately fell.
He was expecting Sanders to come out of the door, and that's exactly who he got. Michael Sanders. His girlfriend's dad who was also a sergeant in the police force.
Duncan remembered meeting him for the first time. He seemed nice, but the sheer size of him (and the fact that he was dating the daughter of a sergeant) was enough to terrify the Ex-Con. A shadow loomed over him, once Michael walked up.
"Good to see you again, Duncan." He greeted. "How was the train ride here?"
The Green Haired Ex-Convict couldn't even look him in the eye. "It was...good."
"Glad the snow didn't delay your trip."
"I'm...also glad."
"Why don't you come inside?" Michael gestured towards the house. "I bought a box of pastries for your visit." He let out a hearty laugh. "You know what they say about cops and doughnuts?" He chuckled even harder.
Duncan forced himself to laugh. "Yeah...I've...I've heard that before." He didn't say anything, before suddenly shooting his head up and meeting the sergeant's gaze. "Oh and, uh, I would love a doughnut..." He snickered awkwardly. "But, Sande- M-Mikayla said we were going...going to a cafe to eat."
"Oh, she must be taking you to HoneyComb. Either that or Reggie's." He leaned forward to Duncan's ear. The Ex-con felt his heart skip a beat and his blood run cold. "If you're going to the Comb," Michael whispered. "Get the Eggcellent sandwich and ask for a little sriracha on top. Best sandwich you'll ever have in your life."
Duncan tried to speak, but his throat was insanely dry. He struggled to find the words. "Um...yeah, I'll...I'll keep that in mind."
The two heard the sound of door closing, which to Duncan, sounded like an angel playing a harp. They both turned and the Ex-con found himself smiling. Sanders walked down the pathway, wearing a long duffle coat. She picked up the pace once she saw her boyfriend and jumped into his waiting arms.
"Hey…" Duncan said, still giddy.
"Hey," Sanders responded. "It's good to see you." She stepped back and scanned his winter coat, noting the logo on his jacket. "Do all your clothes have skulls on them?"
Duncan looked down at her and smirked. "Only the ones I want to wear when I'm around a cute girl."
Sanders sniggered and blushed. "That is so cheesy. Did you think of that on the train?"
"Maybe I did…"
The two shared a light laugh, before gazing into each other's eyes. Neither said a word for a bit. Duncan then slowly started to lean down and close his eyes.
Sanders let out a gasp and closed her eyes, prepared for the kiss. She waited a few seconds and...she didn't feel anything. She opened one eye.
Duncan was no longer leaning towards her. In fact, he wasn't even staring at her. His eyes were looking at something else and Sanders noticed a beat of sweat run down his face. The Cadet turned to what was scaring him. She tried not to laugh when she did.
"Ummm...dad?"
Michael blinked. "Yes, sweetie?"
Sanders looked back at her pale boyfriend, then to her oblivious father. "Can...can you go inside...so Duncan and I can…"
The Sergeant's eyes went wide as realization hit him. "Oh, oh yes of course. I'll let you have your moment." He turned and headed back into the house. "Have fun, you two. It was good seeing you again, Duncan."
Sanders watched as her dad went back into the house. She heard a sigh, a few seconds later. The Cadet smirked. "Why are you still scared of him?"
Duncan flushed and he turned. "I'm...I-I'm not...scared of...he's just so big. He literally blocked out the sun when he walked up to me!"
Sanders chuckled. "It's ok. I'm just teasing." She reached over to his hand. Once they made contact, Duncan felt himself ease up. Both smiled at each other. "Now about that kiss?"
The Ex-Con froze and quickly glanced at the Cadet's house. "Can...can we do that somewhere else? Maybe at a place where your dad can't see us."
The Cadet raised an eyebrow. "He's not looking through the window at-" She froze and sighed. "Sure. Only if you'll hold my hand on the way."
"Gladly."
The two walked alongside each other, towards the town. "You haven't had any breakfast, right?"
Duncan shook his head. "You told me not to, so I didn't."
"Good. I think you'll like the place we're going to."
"What? Reggie's?"
Sanders blinked. "How do you know about Reggie's?"
The Ex-Con stammered. "Uh...I heard it from...some people...passing by."
The Cadet gave him a knowing look. "Well, we're going to HoneyComb. They make a really good egg sandwich...but I'm sure you heard those people talking about it too." Duncan grumbled to himself, which made Sanders laugh again. They rounded a corner, and Sanders stopped. "Alright, he can't see us from here. Lean towards me."
Duncan immediately forgot to be upset. He bent forward and Sanders put her hands on his cheeks. The two shared in a long kiss.
Sanders felt herself practically melting. I missed this. She thought
I missed this so damn much. Duncan said to himself.
They eventually released and just stared at each other. "I love you." Duncan smiled.
"I love you to-" Sanders trailed off. Her gaze landed on something. "Oh, no."
"What? What's wrong?"
Sanders put her hand to her forehead and groaned. "We just kissed in front of my third grade teacher's house."
Duncan turned towards the house in question. "And?"
"She has a camera on the front of her house. Now she's gonna look at the footage and see us kissing."
The Ex-con was still confused. "Ok. What's the big deal? Do you not want people to see us together?"
The Cadet waved her hands. "Nonono, of course not. But…" She paused. "Everyone in this town kinda knows each other. Including me and Macarthur. They watched us during the Race and when they found out we'd be on a season of Total Drama…"
Duncan quickly put two and two together. "So they know about you and me?"
"Pretty much." She pointed at her teacher's house. "And now that it's on camera," She rubbed her arm and her face went red. "It's probably going to end up being passed around."
"Oh," Duncan stared. "Oh…" Sanders was worried he'd be upset, but the Ex-con grinned. "So you're saying I'm kinda like a celebrity here?"
Sanders couldn't help but laugh. "Ok, I guess that's a way of looking at it." She playfully nudged his arm.
Duncan chuckled too and posed for the camera. "Should I go shirtless to really give her a show?"
Sanders shook her head, but was still snickering. "Please don't. She's old." She pushed him away and the two continued holding hands and walking. "We should be there in a few minutes. I have everything planned out. I'm sure you'll enjoy it."
Duncan rolled his eyes. "Yippee." He deadpanned. "Scheduled activities. What fun."
"They will be." Sanders reassured. "I'm gonna make sure we have the best time together."
The Green Haired Ex-Con thought about making a joke, but seeing the eager face of his girlfriend made him smile. "Alright. Lead the way."
With that, the two headed towards the town.
"Hey, quick question, why are you making such a big deal about a video of us kissing? We kissed on the show. They probably know what it looks like."
Sanders didn't answer him.
After about ten minutes of walking, the two had arrived. They stood in front of two long rows of small buildings. Despite the cold weather, many people were out and about.
"What do you think?" Sanders said as continued walking.
Duncan shrugged. "It's...a town?"
"That's all you have to say?"
"I just got here, cut me some slack."
Sanders chuckled. Duncan couldn't help but smile. He loved hearing her laugh. But then he noticed something. He was looking across the street and noticed two women talking to each other. One turned her head and locked eyes with the Ex-Con. Duncan saw her expression completely freeze. The other woman must've noticed too because she turned her head in the direction she was staring at. The same thing happened.
Now Duncan was becoming aware of the situation. Still holding hands, the couple walked by a large group of people. He saw them, one by one, stop their conversations and let out an audible gasp, followed by whispers.
"He's here."
"He's actually here."
"I thought he'd be taller."
"I like his unibrow."
Despite his initial feelings about being well-known, Duncan was starting to feel a little uncomfortable. When they got through the crowd, he leaned closer to his girlfriend. "So when you said everyone here knows who I am, did you literally mean...everybody?"
"Pretty much." Sanders smiled warmly. "I'm sorry if it makes you uncomfortable. They're just excited to see you, is all."
"Mhm..." Duncan still wasn't sure. However his mood changed once he saw something. "Is that a music store?" He pointed across the street. "And is that a poster of Lance Headstrong, lead singer of Underworld Lawyers, in the front window?"
"I'm glad you noticed," Sanders smirked. "Yeah, that's the music store. We're going there after breakfast. They have a lot of music to choose from, so I'm sure you'll find something."
Duncan quickly forgot about his feeling of uneasiness and started to get excited. It only lasted a few seconds, once they stopped.
"We're here." Sanders said.
The Ex-con looked up, getting a good look at the building in front of him. He glanced through the window and noticed a bunch of people inside. His feeling of uncertainty returned. Now he didn't even know if he wanted to go inside.
"You coming?"
Duncan snapped out of his daze and looked at his girlfriend, who was holding the door open. He didn't say anything. I've dealt with people staring at me before. He thought. I can deal with it here. Especially when I'm with her.
"Yeah. I'm starving." He followed his girlfriend into the cafe.
Chapter one is done. What do you think so far? What will Duncan and Sanders experience on their first date? Will it go according to plan, or go off the rails? Stick around to find out.
Sorry about the short length. I have bigger stuff planned for next chapters and I thought it would be weird not to end the first one here.
And...that's all I gotta say. Take care and see you next time.
