Chapter 8: Beauty.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha.

Sango and Miroku had left to take a midnight stroll by the water and Rin had drug an unwilling Sesshomaru to go make 'pretty sand castles' so that just left Inuyasha and Kagome still sitting by the fire.

Kagome sighed and leaned her head back to gaze back up at the stars. "You know, I never really ever got the chance to look up at the stars. I never knew there were this many! They are so beautiful!"

Inuyasha stared at Kagome in wander. He had never met someone so captivated in the stars as he was and that captivated him to her. He didn't want to admit-at least not yet-that he hadn't been looking at the stars, when they were floating on their boards, he had been staring at her face. Watching as her eyes lit up in fascination at the twinkling lights up above. He had felt ridiculous as he felt a small bought of jealousy worm it's way into his heart-he wanted her to look at him like that. But, that was crazy, right? Right?

Yes, crazy, because they had just met! He shouldn't be feeling this strongly over someone he just met! Over someone that's keeping a huge secret from him. He had to bite back a pathetic whine, he understood why she was scared to open up about her true identity, but that didn't stop him from wanting to drill and bug her until she finally got fed up with him and told him why she wore that bracelet.

"Yeah you-I mean-they are."

Kagome heard his little slip up, gasped and locked eyes with his. The moment their eyes locked with the other person's the world around them seemed to slow down and fade away. Everything felt different, new, right with the world-like they were suppose to have met and have this alone time together. Like this is where all the puzzle pieces were suppose to connect for them. At that moment-gravity wasn't holding anyone down anymore, it was the other person sitting mere inches from each other. Neither of them could move or breathe as they took in the sensation the other was giving off.

Inuyasha looked into Kagome's bright blue eyes and felt he knew the true meaning of beauty in that moment.

Kagome thoughts were the same as she stared into Inuyasha's shimmering golden eyes.

They barely heard an excited squeal and then Kagome was bulldozed over by an excited Rin and the moment was over. The world sped back up and came back into focus as the rest of the group headed back to the dying flames.

"I had so much fun! Thank you for coming, Kagome! I hope you can come with us again next Friday! We do this every Friday!" Rin excitedly said.

Inuyasha couldn't help, but feel hopeful that she would come every Friday with them-he wanted to spend as much time with her as possible.

Kagome laughed and hugged Rin back. "Yes, I will come with you guys! This was so much fun! I've never had this much fun in my whole life so thank you for inviting me! You guys are great!"

"You're welcome, Kagome!" Sango smiled as Rin untangled herself from Kagome. "Well, it's getting pretty late so lets head home." Everyone agreed and headed back to the cars.

Walking in her living room, Kagome noticed that the kitchen light was on and that her mother and father were sitting at the table drinking some tea.

"Mama, dad, you didn't have to wait up for me. It's late." Kagome said feeling a little bad for making them think that they had to wait up for her.

"Oh, it's not a problem at all dear-we just wanted to make sure you made it back safely and to ask you how your night was." Kaori said

Kagome nodded, knowing that they would be worried about her because of what happened to her before. She brightly smiled and sighed. "Oh, mama, it was so great! I had so much fun! I love being out on the water, then we had something that was called a bonfire and we ate these things called smores! And we looked up at the stars-I never knew there were so many! And so beautiful!"

Kagome's smile and expression turned dreamy and her parents shared a knowing look. They smiled at the fact that Kagome might be experiencing her first teenage romance and they couldn't be more happier than they were right at that moment. They were just glad that their daughter was getting the chance to experience how a normal teenager lived.

"I'm glad that you had such a great time! It makes me so happy that you are happy!" Kaori beamed at her daughter making Kagome's smile spread even farther.

Mr. Higurashi smiled and stood up. "Okay, lets go to bed-it's late."

Kagome nodded and her parents watched as she practically skipped up the stairs humming a little tune under her breath. They felt overjoyed because they had never seen Kagome as happy as she was and they were internally grateful to her new friends for making their baby so happy.

Please review. Until next time, bye!
