Predictable
She still didn't like going into the temples. Maybe the old ways still haunted her but the temples had never been built for her kind and they didn't belong there. Yevon had not been for the Al Bhed and thus were the temples not meant for them either. That was why she still hated going into the temples and that was why she was so happy to find him outside.
When she called his name, he only glanced briefly over his shoulder. She caught a smile on his lips and he turned back to the ones that he had been speaking with. She heard him mumble something and the others nodded and left. He faced her. "What brings you here?"
Rikku grinned and stopped right in front of him. "Why machina, of course."
With an amused expression, he placed his left hand over his heart, "So you're not here to see me? I'm deeply hurt."
"Well good!" she smiled. "Exactly what I was going for. Need any help?"
His hand fell down and rested on his hip instead and he made a gesture with the other, "You want a job?" He raised an eyebrow. "I thought I already gave you guys a job. Don't you like diggin' anymore? That used to be your passion when we were kids. You don't like gettin' sand underneath your fingernails anymore?"
"Digging's no fun when you're doing it alone," she said, without meaning to sound whiny. It was true; Yuna was busy with Tidus and Paine didn't want to spend time alone with Rikku. Too energetic, too disasterific.
He rolled his eyes, "Whatever you say."
She smiled and tilted her head to the side, "Do you have anything for me, Gippal?"
"A job, you mean?"
The thunder around the temple seemed fitting. She nodded. "Don't act clever."
"I am clever." He smirked and seemed to think for a moment. She knew though that he was just pretending to think it over, for she knew had known him far too long him and knew him far too well to believe anything else. "Let me think," he mumbled and then shrugged with a grin. "Nope."
"What?" she gaped. "Why not? I thought you always were looking for people. I'm an Al Bhed!"
Gippal chuckled and raised a brow yet again. "I know you're an Al Bhed, Rikku, what's your point?"
"I know you know," she replied quickly, "but I don't understand how you can deny me a job! I mean, come on!"
He smirked down at her, "Yeah well, that's how it is, Ci-"
She sighed and finished his sentence, "Cid's girl. God, you're so predictable, I knew you were going to say that sooner or later."
His expression darkened. "I'm not predictable."
"Sure you are!" she snapped back. "I saw it coming."
He frowned and looked around them. Most of the mechanics were inside the temple, working. Which he was not. Nor was he predictable, he told himself and grabbed her face to press his lips against hers and Rikku almost lost her balance.
After he pulled back she stared at him, "Why'd you do that?"
"I'm not predictable," he said stubbornly.
"Sure you are. I knew you were going to do that sooner or later too."
Thanks for reading. Short and meaningless:)
