Chapter 18: The Plan.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha.
Creeping down the hallway as quietly as possible, Kagome followed closely behind Inuyasha-stopping when he stopped and walking when he walked. She was absolutely terrified and in attempt to calm herself down she reached out and took hold of a fistful of Inuyasha's shirt in between his shoulder blades. She felt herself relax a touch and breathing came easier for her as she noticed that Inuyasha was either too busy to notice or did notice but didn't care. Either way she was thankful for the support from him.
As the group reached the end of the hall, Inuyasha snuck a peek around the corner and, after noticing that no one was there, they continued on their way to find Kagome's father.
"It's that way." Kagome whispered pointing to the right to indicate which way to go. "We're almost there so don't be surprised if we run into anyone."
As if on cue someone came out of a small room to their left, but before the person could alert anyone-Inuyasha made quick work in knocking him unconscious.
"It's the big double doors at the end of the hall. My father should hopefully be in there, however, I'm certain that Naraku wants to keep very close tabs on him so he along with many others will most likely be in there as well, if my father is even in there to begin with." Kagome said in a shaky whisper.
Inuyasha felt Kagome's distress literally rolling off of her so he turned, placing both his hands on her shoulders and looking her directly in her eyes. "Hey, we are going to get out of this! With your father, I promise."
"That's a pretty big promise, Inuyasha." Kagome said with tears gathering in her eyes.
"And I always keep my promises, no matter how big." Inuyasha whispered wiping Kagome's tears away. "So, come on so we can get this over with and get your father where he belongs.
Giving Inuyasha a watery shaky, but genuine smile Kagome nodded and continued to follow Inuyasha the short distance to the large double doors that hopefully her father.
Reaching the door everyone paused to collect their wits and to suck in a deep breath before Inuyasha kicked in the door.
Standing in the room looking rather surprised was Naraku and a few of his men, they seemed to be in some sort of meeting. Looking around, Kagome felt the beginning of failure creep into her heart as she realized that her father was, in fact, not in the room as she thought he might've been.
Taking a deep breath Kagome pinned Naraku with a murderous look. "Where's my father?"
Naraku gave Kagome a sickening smirk as he put his finger to his chin and looked up at the ceiling in fake contemplation. "Your father? Hmm, let's see..."
-X-
Taisho peeked around the corner to another hallway and saw two men standing beside a set of double doors at the end of the hallway. Leaning back against the wall he looked at his group of people risking their lives for someone that they didn't even know. He felt incredibly guilty, but felt like he had no choice-he would never turn his back on someone that needed help-and as he looked at all the faces around him he know they felt the very same way.
"What's going on?" Miroku asked in a hushed whisper.
"There is two guards guarding the doors at the end of the hall-that's where Kagome's father most likely is being held." Taisho sighed running a clawed hand through his hair. He peeked around the corner once again and saw about ten people come out of a different room in the hall and made their way towards the guarded room. He watched as the guards nodded at the group of men before they disappeared inside the double doored room. "About ten people just walked into the room-so we got two men guarding the doors and ten, maybe more, men inside the room. Safe bet is that Kagome's father is almost most definitely in that room." Looking back at his ground he assessed all their expressions that they wore and while some looked worried or scared he noted that most faces looked determined and confident.
"Okay, here's the plan, Sango-you're going to play the damsel in distress and run out there terrified saying that some horrible demon is chasing you. While you got them distracted Miroku will come up from behind them and knock them out. Once inside the room is kind of up in the air as far as plans go-we have no idea what's inside that room, so we'll just roll with the punches when we get in the room. Anyone have an idea on how to make this plan any better?" Taisho laid out the plan.
Everyone shook their heads, indicating that no one had anything better and that they were going with his plan.
Taisho nodded. "Okay, is everyone ready?" At everyone's hesitant nods he got the plan in motion. "Okay, go Sango-now."
Sango nodded and sucked in a deep breath and held it for a couple seconds before releasing it in a puff. She ran into the middle of the hallway looking at the opposite direction than the guards.
"Hey, you there! What are you doing in here? You're not permitted to be here!" One of the guards yelled out as both of them started walking her way.
Sango jerked her head towards the man and watched as the men stumbled back. She inwardly smirked as she thought that her terrified look she plastered on her face must have convinced them that something was wrong.
"Oh! Thank goodness I've finally found someone!" Sango exclaimed, false terror leaking past her lips. She ran up to them and angled herself so the guards would be facing her and not the others-who were still hiding.
"What's wrong, Ma'am?" The second guard questioned.
"There's a terrible demon chasing after me! I must've lost him when I came in here, but now I have no idea where I am! I've been running for so long!" Sango said breathlessly and she reached up to put her hands to place one on each of the guards' shoulders. "Would you be so kindly to help a poor woman like me out?"
Both the guards smirked as the first one lifted a hand to run his fingers through her hair. As his fingers got closer to the end he twirled her hair and flicked his eyes to stare into Sango's. "We would be glad to help you-that is-if you help us out."
It took Sango all she had to keep the terrified look on her face and not gag or roll her eyes. She opened her mouth, but before she could say anything the guards both fell to the ground in unconscious human lumps. She looked up to see a pissed off look on Miroku's face and heard him mutter 'disgusting perverts' under his breath.
Seeing that the guards were effectively knocked out the others came from their hiding spot and the group made their way to the double doors.
Sucking in a breath, Taisho lifted a leg and kicked down the door-letting his team run in ahead of him. He ran in behind his group and gasped in horror at what he saw...
