Chapter 2 (the one with drama)
Annabeth's POV
"Mom, can I have a sleepover with my friend this friday?" Charlie asked me as soon as I walked through the door wednesday afternoon.
"Um, sure honey. Do you need me to drive you?" I asked her. I know 'Annabeth! You don't even know whose house she's going to! That's dangerous!' but honestly work had been really exhausting today and I just wanted to sleep.
"Nope! Her dad is the math teacher, we can walk home after school!" she said excitedly. I was just glad she would be out Friday night. That was when I could catch up on sleep.
****Friday Night****
Charlotte's POV
"Char! You ready?" Bianca asked me. I was super excited to have a sleepover with her and Marie! It was going to be so exciting! We walked down the road to Bianca's house, it wasn't that far away, but her dad usually took a car to school because had so much stuff to carry. Mr. Jackson was Bianca's dad and the coolest teacher in the school, even if he did teach math.
"Yeah, I'm a bit worried though, last time I had a sleepover, I threw up because I ate an entire spoonful of mustard." I told them as we walked down the sidewalk.
"That's disgusting!" Marie yelled, she got a scowl from a lady sunbathing in her front yard.
"As much as I want to keep talking about mustard, we're here." Bianca said, interrupting our mustard disgusion. I looked up to where we had stopped, I gasped. There was a small bronze gate made up of an intricate leaf design. The front yard was shielded from the outside world by a tall wall of laurel bushes. I peered inside of the gate to see that there was a beautiful garden full of food and plants. A pathway made of smooth stone leads to the front door of the white fairy-like house with plants creepy up the walls. To say I was shocked would be an understatement.
"You like it?" Bianca asked, eyeing my shocked expression
"How many people live here?" I asked her, the house was quite large just for 2 people.
"Me and my dad, we have guests over constantly though. This is also where Marie crashes if her dad's are both busy at work." she told me
"It's gorgeous." I whispered
"Thank you, we got it a few years ago, now would you like a tour?" she asked me as she opened the front door that was the same color as the trim.
"Yes please!" I said.
She led us inside and I glanced around in awe. The entire house was really cool, each room seemed to have a different theme, the kitchen and living room had an industrial feel due to all the exposed bricks and modern lighting. They even had a small library that had been painted a teal color and had vintage furniture in it, the book shelves were packed to the brim with books.
"Do you want to go hang out in my room?" Bianca asked
"Sure, my room is kinda messy at the moment." Marie said with a shrug. Instead of leaving the library we climbed up the spiral staircase in the corner of the room. She opened the door at the top to reveal her room. It was smaller than I expected, but it was very impressive, it seemed that the entire room was either black or ultramarine blue. Her desk was made of black metal. She had a photo frame that was the only thing in the room that wasn't black or ultramarine blue. It was a beautiful thing with seashells that made up the frame. My eyes zeroed in on a picture. It was a picture I knew very well, because I had it in my own house, and my mom never told me who was in it. Why did she have it?
"Do you know who's in that picture?" I asked, pointing to the picture of my mom, with her arms wrapped around some guy with blcak hair and sea green eyes. There were other people in it too, a girl with choppy brown hair and kaleidoscope eyes, a boy with his arm around her shoulder, he was blond and had a small scar on his lip. There was an emo boy and a girl in a purple cloak. A girl with caramel skin was hugging a blurry chinese man with a purple shirt on. Lastly, there was a scruffy latino guy who was barely taller than the girl with carmel hair.
"That's some girl I don't know, My dad, Piper, Jason, Nico, Reyna, Hazel, Frank, and Leo." Bianca said, pointing to each of them in turn.
"That girl with her arms around your dad is my mom." I said to her
"Do you think they used to date?" Marie said
"Ew" I said
"Maybe" Bianca said, her voice filled with disgust
"Why is it so gross, they kinda look like a cute couple." Marie said
"I don't know, it just is." Bianca said
"Eh, it doesn't matter." I said, brushing off the absurd idea that had formed in my head. I mean, it's just an idea, it can't be true….right?
"Pizza's here!" yelled from the kitchen.
"Charlie's right, besides PIZZA!" Bianca exclaimed, we hustled downstairs and greeted
The rest of the night was filled with us watching TimeTrap, then getting scared and not being able to sleep the whole night.
In the morning my mom came to pick me up and was the one to answer the door. My mom's eyes widened and Marie sent us both a smug smile.
"P-Percy" My mom stuttered
"What are you doing here-oh, um… Charlotte should be down shortly." said. His eyes were filled with sadness as he stared blankly at my mom.
"I'm sorry." She said, she tilted her head down in shame.
"You didn't do anything wrong wise girl. Can I ask you something?" he said politely. This seemed to make my mom even more sad.
"What is it?"
"Who is Charlie's dad? Is he treating you okay?"he said. My eyes widened, Mom had never told what happened to my father, I was anxious to hear this.
"Um Percy, well… you see" She started to cry.
was very worried by now "I know we aren't on the best terms, but you seem like you need a hug. Can I give you one?" he asked her. 'Not on the best terms'? What does that mean? My mom just nodded and gave her a hug. A hug. Nobody but her brother Malcom and I had given her a hug. My mom was not a hugger. She acted like she had hugged him before. Like they had dated before.
"So Percabeth is back?" Someone asked, I jumped. A guy in his late 20s early 30s was standing behind us 3 girls.
"Hi dad! And what's Percabeth? Also be quiet! Do you not know how to eavesdrop?" Marie exclaimed in a hushed whisper-yell.
"It's their ship name, they used to be a thing." Marie's dad said. My stomach contorted and I almost gagged.
"How long did they date for? When did they break up?"Bianca asked, her eyes narrowed. I knew what she was doing. Bianca and I had the same birthday, I was missing a dad, and her mom was gone.
"They broke up 12 years ago." Nico elaborated
"WHAT!" I shrieked. Apparently I didn't know how to eavesdrop either. My mom and quickly pulled apart and spotted the four of us in the corner.
"You. Crying lady. I hate to be this person, but my father is not the smartest at social cues. So I'm going to cut the crap. Are you my mom?" Bianca asked in an 'Answer me or die' voice
"I-"
Cliff-hanger. Deal with it.
