Chapter 4 It's Time to be a Big Sister

Malty was stood in front of a mirror looking over her reflection, a few minutes ago her mother had told her to get changed into something that wasn't very flashy because they were going to have an outing to the countryside, but that wasn't the cause of Malty's current predicament, she had put on the clothes she usually wore for training seeing as they were probably the least flashy things in her wardrobe, no Malty's focus was on her hair.

'Ok, you know what, I may be reincarnated as Malty but that doesn't mean I have to look exactly like her' she thought to herself, pulling out her pony tail and redoing her hair until it was in twin tails 'and their, wait this is Melty's style, eh nothing saying we can't both have our hair styled like this and I might restyle mine later'

With that done Malty quickly went to the carriage to meet up with her mother, her mother was already in the carriage so she entered once she got their, her mother smiled as she entered, Mirellia was dressed rather unusually, like her daughter she was dressed in a shirt and some pants clearly for whatever they were going to do out in the countryside, her mother was only two months away from giving birth and she was really showing now.

''I've never seen your hair like that before, trying a new style?'' Mirellia asked.

''Yes mother, I felt like trying something new'' explained Malty.

''It looks very nice'' smiled Mirellia.

''Thank you mother, so where are we going?'' Malty asked.

''Its a surprise for you Malty, it's something the women in our family have been doing for generations, I did this with my mother and she did it with her mother, a few months ago I was hesitant to do this with you, I didn't think you'd like it but I think your going to like it now'' Mirellia answered with a big smile.

''I see'' smiled Malty, she knew what it was now.

After half an hour Mirellia ordered the carriage to pull over, telling the carriage driver it was a good spot and to wait their for them, the mother daughter duo departed from the carriage and carefully waded through the bushes and undergrowth, not only because of Mirellia's pregnancy but also because they wanted to be quiet, eventually they came to a stop at the edge of the bush and Malty gave a silent gasp as they looked out to a large field that was full of Filolial's.

Not literally there was still room for other animals and pants but there were hundreds of the large birds, Malty was honestly amazed, she knew about Filolials from the story and she knew Queen Mirellia and Melty loved Filolials, but she never understood what was so special about them, until now, they were all so big and beautiful, with some many different colours ranging from vibrant reds to deep blues, there were only brown ones in the town, but their weren't just the big and beautiful Filolials their were also the small cute fluffy chicks.

The cute little Filolial chicks, which Malty had dubbed Fluffies, were all rather energetic running from nest to nest chasing each other chirping at one another playing some kind of game under the watchful gaze of their mothers, that was until the mothers decided playtime was over and gathered the chicks back up in their nests, to Malty it seemed like all the Filolials were all one massive family with every female acting as a mother since they didn't really care who got what chick.

The sight was enrapturing for Malty and Mirellia and the two stayed their for hours just watching the Filolials until the sun started to set which was when they went home.

''So, did you enjoy our trip today Malty?'' Mirellia asked as they rode the carriage.

''Mother can I be blunt?'' Malty asked, her mother nodded and Malty continued ''I knew you liked Filolials, but I never understood why, but I think I get it now, I really enjoyed our trip and I'd like to go again and I think we should take my new sibling, once they're born that is''

''I think that would be an excellent idea Malty'' smiled Mirellia.

Two months passed and Malty founder herself sat on a chair in the hall of the families royal private clinic with Eclair sat right next to her outside the Queens private room on a stormy night, a few hours ago during dinner her mother had gone into labour and was rushed to the royal families private clinic, she was now giving birth to her new sister, Eclair who had been invited to dinner with her father since they were at the palace rushed their with them alongside her father, Malty nervously fidgeting in her chair which caught Eclair's attention.

''Are you alright Malty I've never seen you like this before'' said Eclair in concern.

''Have you ever felt exited and nervous at the same time Eclair?'' Malty asked.

''Hmm, not really, why?'' Eclair asked.

''Because thats how I feel right now, I've never been a big sister and want to be a good one'' said Malty.

''And I'm sure you will'' said Eclair putting a comforting hand on her friends shoulder which was when she noticed something in Malty's lap ''whats that?''

''Oh this, its a picture book I made for my new sibling'' explained Malty.

''Picture book?'' Eclair asked.

'Oh right, they don't have picture books in this world' Malty thought to herself ''its a short story book, with pictures on every page to keep little children entertained, I thought it would be something nice for mother to read to my new brother or sister and I made sure it would teach them a lesson'' as she explained this Malty passed the book over to Eclair to look at.

''Minty the Green Filolial?'' Eclair asked with a raised brow.

''Yeah'' said Malty sheepishly ''it was the best title I could come up with, its the main character, my tutor told me there are no green Filolials so I went with that because it helps the message''

The idea of making a picture book for Melty had come the day after Malty and her mother had that Filolial watching trip, she had asked her tutor if there were any colours Filolial's didn't come in and her tutor, who was a rather elderly woman, had given a long exasperated sigh and proceeded to give an entire lesson on Filolial's including their colours, apparently the only colour a Filolial didn't come in was green, which Malty found to be rather odd but her tutor was rather old, so Malty assumed her tutor had also taught her mother and when her grandmother had taken her mother on the Filolial watching trip her mother couldn't stop asking questions about Filolial's so she just decided to make an entire lesson about them to avoid that again.

''So what is the message?'' Eclair asked.

''It's basically suppose to teach you that you shouldn't treat people differently just because there a different race and that we should accept everyone equally, basically its suppose to teach them that you should treat people equally regardless or race'' explained Malty.

''Do you mind if I have a quick read to see if it works? If its a short story it should be quick to read'' said Eclair.

''Sure go ahead, its always nice to hear someone else opinion'' said Malty.

With that Eclair opened the book and flicked through it, when she was finished she turned to Malty and said ''I'm not sure if the different colour thing works, but I think it does do a good job teaching us that it's not right to treat people badly just because they're different''

''Thanks I just hope my new sibling likes it'' said Malty ''how long has it been now''

''Hmm, I'm actually not sure, we haven't really been out here too long though and it takes a lot of time to give birth'' said Eclair before giving Malty a comforting smile ''don't worry Malty I'm sure everything is going to be ok''

Hour after hour passed and eventually Malty and Eclair had fallen asleep in their chairs and didn't wake up until midnight, when they were gently nudged awake by the nurse, Malty rubbed the sleep out of her eyes before looking up into the beaming smile of the nurse ''congratulations princess, your officially a big sister'' she said.

That woke Malty up instantly, she practically jumped out of her chair and towards the door with her present for her little sister in her hand, she quickly entered and saw her father and Eclair's father sat next to bed and in the bed was her mother, covered in a blanket layers and cradling a bundle in her arms looked rather tired but happy and she looked happier when she saw Malty enter the room.

Malty slowly approached the bed her eyes fixed on the little bundle in her mothers arms, she didn't even noticed that Eclair was following behind her, when she made it to the bedside Mirellia smiled and said ''Malty, I'd like you to meet your new sister, Melty'' she lowered the bundle so Malty could see the baby's small face poking out of the bundle ''do you want to hold her?''

Mutely Malty passed her present to Eclair, as soon as she took it Malty held her hands out, Mirellia smiled at her daughter as Duke Seaetto picked Malty up and put her on the bed, Malty gently crawled towards her mother and new sister and Mirellia slowly and carefully passed the baby over to Malty who gently took the newborn into her arms, with Duke Seaetto quickly correcting any problems with the way she was holding the baby, not that Malty noticed she was completely focused on the baby.

''She's so small and cute'' Malty whispered.

It seemed like Melty heard this because she stirred and opened her little eyes to see her big sister beaming down at her, but Melty didn't cry, she smiled at the friendly face, which gave Malty even more joy, but of course something had to ruin the moment and that was Trash who spoke up ''I'm glad you like her Malty, I know you were a little hesitant at first but I'm sure you'll both grow to love each other and I'm sure you'll both serve as fine princesses for the country'' he said.

Malty passed Melty back to her mother and got off the bed, she was doing her best to stop herself from glaring but didn't want to scare the baby so she decided to hand her back, she didn't want to be reminded of the person she use to be before regaining her memories, the kind of person who would try to kill her own sister for such petty reasons.

As Malty got off the bed Eclair passed the picture book back to Malty, which Queen Mirellia took note of ''whats that?'' she asked.

''It's a picture book I made for Melty'' explained Malty.

''Picture book?'' Mirellia asked.

''A short story book with pictures to entertain small children, I thought you could use it to read Melty to sleep'' explained Malty.

Mirellia held her hand out, Malty passed the picture book to Duke Seaetto who passed it to the Queen who looked it over before smiling and placing it on the bedside table ''thank you Malty, I'm sure you put a lot of work into this'' she said.

''Your welcome mother'' Malty smiled.

After that the door opened and a servant walked in carrying a crib ''thank you for coming, but I'm rather tired and would like some rest and I'm sure the children are rather tired well'' said Mirellia.

''Of course Mirellia, me and Duke Seaetto will take them home, I'll come see you in the mourning'' said Trash.

And with that he and Duke Seaetto started to take the children out of the room so they could go home and let the Queen rest, as she was hurried out Malty gave one last backwards glance to her sister who had been placed in the crib 'don't worry Melty, I'm going to make sure you grow into the Queen your suppose to be in the story'

-Two Years Later-

Two years had come to pass and Malty had been adamantly following along with her plan, she and Eclair were both still training with the vice captain the training had gotten harder since they were doing better but it really helped her advance, as for magic after half a year of training with her mother, Queen Mirellia had told her they had finished her lessons and told her to practice regularly to get stronger, it was a little shocking but then again Malty was able to use Zwei level spells and in the story Melty was doing magic on her own, so maybe this was Just normal for the royal family of Melromarc when it came to practicing magic.

Speaking of Melty, Malty made sure to spend time with her sister regularly, just like in the story her mother had taken Melty under her wing after seeing how Malty had been with Trash's influence before the hit to the head that caused her transformation and Malty now fully saw Mirellia as her mother, Malty helped her mother protect her little sister from her fathers influence and his spoiling and speaking of her father some matters involving him concerned Malty, lately she had seen a man with a Three Heroes Church pendant hanging around with her father, she would have to keep a closer eye on the situation.

Currently Malty was walking down the hallway, she had just finished one of her tutoring lessons and had free time, she was going to go to the library for some reading, until she heard the sound of her sister cry, as quick as a flash Malty turned and bolted towards her sisters room, entering the room she could see her sister sat up in the crib crying her eyes out, Malty quickly went to check on her, taking little Melty into her arms Malty slowly rocked her to try and calm her down, but it wasn't working, she didn't seem to be hungry and she didn't have a dirty diaper, so what was wrong?

''Hmm, maybe your just board'' Malty mused to herself, she put Melty on the ground and quickly dragged over some of her toys which quickly brightened Melty up ''just as I thought, you must have woken up after getting enough sleep and wanted to do something, ok then lets do something alright then your choice what shall we do?''

The two played with blocks before switching to stuffed animals and eventually Malty got an idea, she left Melty in the room for a few minutes and rushed off to get something, she came back with a stack of paper in her hand and she set down a small stool in front of Melty, Melty who's interest had been peaked gazed at her sister picking up one sheet of paper.

''Alright little lady watch and be amazed as I make a bird out of this sheet of paper'' Malty declared dramatically, she then began to fold the paper, after a few more folds she had made an origami crane, Melty clapped in delight seeing it ''I see you like it so lets make some more shall we'' and for the next few minutes Malty turned paper sheet after paper sheet into origami making a frog, lion, horse and many more until she was down to one last sheet ''alright, one sheet left any requests Melty?''

''Filoial!'' Melty cheered, Filolial was actually one of her first few words, the others being, mama and big sister.

''Alright, I've never made a Filolial before, but if you want one I'll try to make you one'' smiled Malty, who already had an idea how to make a Filolial origami, after a few minutes of folding she had made an ostrich origami, but it should be close enough to pass off as a Filolial ''alright, hows this?''

''Filolial, Filolial!'' Melty cheered.

Malty smiled seeing her sister happy, but her smile faded as she heard the door open, Malty turned her head to see her mother entering the room smiling ''well what do we have hear?'' she asked ''have you two been having fun?''

''Yes mother, I heard Melty crying and came to cheer her up'' said Malty bowing her head only to feel the Queen pat her head.

''Good big sister'' smiled Mirellia before seeing Melty yawn ''and it looks like its time for little sister to have another nap'' Mirellia picked out one of the many picture books Malty had made for Melty and then proceeded to pick Melty up and started to read to her as Malty cleaned up the room, by the time Mirellia finished reading Melty had fallen fast asleep and Malty had cleaned up the whole room ''thank you for that Malty''

''It's no problem mother, I love spending time with Melty'' said Malty, before taking a deep breath in ''mother, there's something I need to talk to you about''

''What is it?'' Mirellia asked, a little worried considering how serious Malty was right now.

''I'd like to give up my claim to the crown and pass it on to my sister'' stated Malty, surprising Mirellia her eyes even widened when she heard Malty say that ''I've thought about it and I think Melty will be a better queen than I could be, I don't want to break apart from the royal family, but I wish to give up my claim to the throne to my sister'' with that said Malty bowed her head, only to feel the Queen petting her again.

Malty looked up and saw the Queen smiling ''very noble of you Malty, but the choice of who is crowned Princess is mine and Melty is just a baby right now, I don't know if she'll grow into the right person to inherit this country, so for now lets just see how it goes, I'll decided who will inherit the throne when its time I will decide who between you and your sister will be the crowned princess'' Mirellia stated.

''Yes mother I understand'' said Malty.

''I'm glad you love your sister so much Malty, but for now lets just give her time and see if she truly grows into a person I can trust to lead this country'' said Mirellia.

''And I'm sure she will mother'' stated Malty, gazing towards Melty sleeping in the crib ''I'm sure she will''

So that's the chapter, I'm sorry if it was shorter and usual and I'm sorry if you think this is to early a development but I thought this was the right time to add Melty to the story and there are a couple of reasons I wanted to age the characters a bit, first I just wanted to write that scene with Malty and Melty and second I wanted the moves the story forwards a bit, don't worry there are still a few things Malty's going to do before the Waves the Waves aren't going to be in the story until at least chapter 8, so yeah still plenty to look forwards to.
