I don't own any characters. They belong to Stephenie Meyer.
When the sun started rising the next morning, I became anxious. In just a few hours I'm going to have a talk with Edward that will change both of our lives. My anxiety was caused by the unknown future that the conversation would be a start to, and not because I wasn't sure about Edward's feelings about me. If even Rose noticed his emotional state, then they should be mutual, right?
Seconds dragged by turning into minutes and then hours, and I was still looking through my bedroom window, trying to see Edward through the forest trees, but he wasn't coming. It was already afternoon when I sighed and ran outside to hunt in hopes that will help me clean up my mind. I had a speech ready for when my beloved comes home, and I've been playing it in my head for hours now. I would tell him how it seems right now that all I've ever done in my life is making my way here to him. How me turning into a vampire and my search for Alice all these years were leading me closer to where my heart would belong forever. I would tell him that it was all new and scary for both of us, but I would rather be terrified with him, than tranquil apart. I would tell Edward that he is the love of my life, that my non-beating heart beats just for him and there will never be anyone else for me. That speech was very unlike me, it was soft and emotional instead of my usual firmness.
I was running through the forest, not knowing how much time has passed since I left. My mind couldn't concentrate on the hunt, every time I smelled my prey, a little thought in my head came back to the conversation that I'll have later. I sighed again and turned back home. Edward Cullen stops me from thinking, going on about my day, and apparently now hunting as well.
Just when I was coming back, I met Alice running in my direction. She had a large smile on her face, and when she saw me, jumped up to hug me. My sister was laughing and squeezing me in her arms. If I didn't know better, I would think she became crazy and was trying to rip my head off.
"Not that I'm not glad to see you, sis, but why are you here?" I breathed when she finally loosened the hug.
"Will you be my maid of honor?" Alice asked when she let me go.
"What? Did Jasper ask you?" I exclaimed.
"He just did! They came back an hour ago." She put her hand out to me, so I could see the ring.
It was absolutely gorgeous; an old design, I doubted Jasper found it in the shop. A central, foil-backed, old mine-cut diamond sparkled from within a glittering frame of rose-cut diamonds. It looked like an original Georgian ring, that was popular during the late-18th or early-19th century. The ornate 'V' shaped shoulders were superbly decorated with a stylized, open foliate motif. The ring measured around half an inch in diameter and looked massive on Alice's slim finger.
"It belonged to Jasper's grandmother, he kept it all these years." She spoke.
"It's beautiful," I spoke.
"I'm so happy for you! Of course, I'll be your maid of honor." I was the one hugging her now. "Why aren't you with him right now?"
"I wanted to tell you. Bella, you're my sister, I needed to tell you, I needed you to know about it first."
"Thank you. So, when will the celebration happen?" I asked.
"We haven't talked about it yet, but do you think we can do it on Tuesday?" she asked.
"This Tuesday? That's only three days away!" I exclaimed.
"Well, what's the point in waiting? All my family is here, Jasper's too. The Denalis can start running tomorrow and be here by the time the ceremony starts, besides Carlisle is off that day to be our minister. Peter and Charlotte are coming sometime in the next couple of days. Everything is ready." She smiled.
"Peter and Charlotte?" I asked surprised.
"Crap! Sorry, it was supposed to be a surprise visit, sorry." Alice mumbled.
"That's okay, I was just not expecting that. Do you think you're ready though?" I questioned.
"I've been waiting for that my whole life, Bella. I waited since I woke up from my transformation."
"Alright, but what about decorations?" I asked.
"We can go shopping for them tomorrow."
"But what about the venue?"
"The house is big enough for 17 people to fit in it." She shrugged her shoulders.
"But the music and your dress, and Jasper's tux…" I was interrupted.
"…Can all be taken care of in these three days. Why are you panicking?" Alice laughed.
"I don't think I'm ready," I whispered.
"You'll be fine. Your only job is to sit through my "torture" as you call it and make sure Emmett can walk me down the aisle without stepping on my dress." She squeezed my hands.
"Tuesday then?" I squeezed her hands back and smiled.
"Tuesday. Oh, Bella, I can't wait." Alice squeaked.
"Are there any wedding gifts that you want?" I asked.
"You've already given me one."
"What do you mean?"
"The surprise of it. I won't say I liked the feeling, but it was something new."
"So, I have to give you something borrowed, something white and something blue now?" I giggled.
"You and your silly jokes." She shook her head. "You know what, sure. That can be your present for me. Find me those things."
"Seriously?" I asked surprised.
"Seriously." Alice smiled. "Let's go home, it's about time to tell Edward you love him. It's already weird enough that I'm getting married before my older sister does."
"Biologically, you're two years older."
"Honestly, Bella, I think you were born a thirty-year-old. You don't think or act your real age."
"And here I thought no one can read my thoughts." I smiled.
She shook her head and led me towards the house. When we arrived, everyone was in the living room. Carlisle and Esme were hugging. Rose and Tanya sitting on the couch, talking about dresses that they're going to wear. Emmet and Edward were talking to my brother. Jasper was smiling as he had never before. I liked seeing that. When he noticed me coming inside the room, his smile grew wider. I closed the distance between us and gave him the warmest hug I could.
"Congratulations! Took you long enough, but I'm happy for you both. Keep her safe." I whispered in his ear so quietly, so only he could hear it.
"Thank you, and you can be sure I will protect her at all cost." His voice was serious.
"I couldn't expect less from you, Jazz." I let go and smiled.
"Bella, Edward would you mind getting the mail?" Alice asked and gave me a wink.
"Both of us?" Edward asked.
"Yeah, both of you. It's the bride's orders." She giggled.
"Well, no one can disobey the bride's order." He smiled at my sister. "Bella?"
"I'll be right behind you," I assured and watched him go out. "You couldn't make it less obvious?"
"Oh, he already knows why I want you two to go together. In fact, everyone knows, so will you just go?"
"Okay." I sighed and started walking outside, but before reaching for the door, I looked back at my sister.
"What is it now? You need another pep talk?"
"No, just wanted to say thank you. For pushing me."
"Get out!" she yelled.
I smiled, turned around, and ran to catch up to Edward.
"Hello, love." He spoke.
"Hey."
"So, Jasper and Alice, eh?"
"Yeah, that's wonderful news." I took a deep breath. "Would you mind making a short reroute to the mailbox?"
"Why?" he smiled.
"You know why, mister mind reader." I smiled back. "Are you trying to test my anxiety?"
"Just trying to see if you are going to back out."
I rolled my eyes and took his hand, leading him towards the lake, our lake.
"Take a deep breath." He spoke.
I turned to see his face. He was calm and smiling at me. A full smile this time, encouraging me to speak.
"I know you've probably suspected this, but over the last week, I've fallen completely in love with you." I started and his smile grew wider. "Now, obviously this was going to happen because you're a god with that face and that hair. But even if you didn't have a nice face, and even if you had absolutely no hair because of some bizarre reason, I'd still adore you." I took another deep breath, realizing that that wasn't the speech I had prepared. Everything that I've memorized, was suddenly gone. That was my heart talking. "I have crossed oceans of time to find you, Edward. Immortality didn't seem important until we met, all of my 62 years on this planet didn't have a meaning until you brutally attacked me in this forest."
"I wouldn't say I brutally attacked…"
"No, let me finish." I shushed him. "You are the answer to every prayer I've ever offered. You are a song, a dream, a whisper and I don't know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have. You're my past, my present, and my future. Unless you don't want to be."
Suddenly, I felt the weight on my lips and instinctively closed my eyes. His warm full lips were kissing mine with passion and everything else that was left unspoken. His lips tasted like chamomile and mint, his smell was overpowering, not even the best perfumer in the world would be able to copy that. Edward's hands were cupping my cheeks, while mine were resting on his shoulders. This was the best moment of my life; nothing would ever compare to that single moment when I first kissed the guy of my dreams and knew that my love would last forever. He leaned back from me, and I gasped for air even though I didn't need it.
"Isabella Marie Brandon, if we haven't met, I would always think something was missing. All this time I was wandering the world searching for you, even if I never knew what I was looking for. You are the center of my thoughts, the meaning behind my every action, my reason to be alive and happy."
It's like at that moment the whole universe existed just to bring us together. All of my past actions made sense, my search for a better life was over, now that I had Edward. I closed the distance behind us and stood on my tiptoes to reach his lips again. This time, the kiss was gentler and slower. We took our time memorizing each other. I opened his mouth with my tongue and felt a swirling sensation in my lower abdomen. All I wanted to do now is be closer to him. As our tongues danced together, Edward pulled me closer, lifting me from the ground, and pressing my body to a nearby tree. A single moan left my mouth and suddenly it was over.
"Sorry." He smiled at me. I could still taste his tongue in my mouth and his gentle bites on my lips. "I have some beliefs."
"Beliefs?" I questioned.
"Let's just say, I would like us to wait before…" His face turned into a near painful grimace.
"Oh…Oh…Okay. Yeah, I didn't…I wasn't planning on…" I stuttered at the realization.
"You weren't?" He asked sheepishly.
"Well, we met just a week ago, and I know we are mates, and I love you with all my heart. It's just we don't know each other well enough, and we're not married. Not that I want to get married. Well, not in the near future." I rambled.
"Bella," Edward spoke.
"Yes."
"That's exactly what I was thinking." He smiled and took my hands in his. "We have a lot of time to take it slow. A forever to be exact."
"Forever is a long time." I grinned.
"Yes, it is." He leaned to kiss me.
The day of the wedding came sooner than I wanted. Of course, I was happy for Alice and Jasper, but she was still my little sister. In my mind, she will forever stay the little 5-year-old girl that I remember her to be. And the thought of that little girl being a grown woman who was now getting married was weird.
That morning everyone was rushing. Alice herself wasn't sitting around either. She made it clear that at least Esme, Rose, and I have to get dressed and get their makeup done by her personally. She didn't accept help with anything until Kate mentioned Alice wouldn't have time to do her own unless she lets one of the Denali sisters do our hair.
"I knew I should have started preparing you three at night." She sighed but gave up the hairdryer.
"You can't have everything that you want." I patted her back.
"I'll be prepared for when you and Edward decide to tie the knot." She showed me her tongue, and I froze. Marriage was a step that I knew would eventually have to be discussed, but I didn't think the talk about us "tying the knot" have already started. It has only been three days.
"Breathe," Rose whispered, and I obeyed. "That's better."
"I'm going to see how the groom is doing," I spoke as I was leaving the room.
I followed down the hall and knocked before entering the spare bedroom that was given to Peter and Charlotte. They, along with Edward and Jasper were laughing at something.
"Bella! You look gorgeous." Charlotte said when I walked in.
"Thank you, you look very beautiful yourself." Charlotte's spiky white-blonde hair was nicely styled, minimal makeup present around her eyes that still had red color in them. Her long black dress made her look taller than she was, or it might have been the heels.
"Are you ready for the big day?" I asked my brother.
"Like you can't even imagine." Was his simple reply.
"Can I talk to you for a second?" Edward interrupted.
"Of course." I smiled and took his hand.
We went to my bedroom as it was the furthest away from where Alice was. I closed the door behind me.
"Were you able to get it?" I whispered.
"It was hard, but yes."
He took a small piece of fabric out of his hand and unfolded it. Inside laid my mother's sapphire necklace. I thought it would suffice for Alice's something blue.
"The house now belongs to Cynthia, your mother passed away 9 years ago, father 4 years ago. I'm sorry." He took my hand.
"It's okay, I knew they were probably dead now. After all these years." I shook my head.
"They're still your parents."
"How's Cynthia?" I asked.
"She's good. When I came by her house, she was knitting a sweater. Your niece Marie married Earnest Higginbotham about a decade ago, they moved to Washington, and have a daughter Renee. Cynthia was thinking about them when I went to grab that." He took another piece of cloth out of his left pocket.
I looked inside and saw a beautiful brooch that my dad gave to Cynthia when she turned 13. Something borrowed, as I'm sure my other sister would wonder where that little thing went.
"Okay, I have everything now." I sighed with relief.
"What are you using for something white?" he asked.
"I bought her a pearl bracelet yesterday when she was occupied by the arrival of Peter and Charlotte."
I opened up my bedside drawer to reveal the jewelry piece.
"Those are beautiful."
"And will go well with her dress sleeves." I smiled.
"You're a great maid of honor." He kissed me.
"Now, I just need to make sure Rose is ready for her piano act, and Emmett is calm enough to walk my little sister down the aisle without being…well…Emmett." I smiled.
"Easy-peasy."
"Are you citing soap commercials now?" I spoke as I put my arms around his shoulders.
"So, what if I am?"
"I think I'll have to kiss you until you forget them." I smiled.
"I agree to these terms." He leaned in.
Our magic moment was interrupted by Rose barging into the room.
"How sweet." She spoke.
"Has anyone told you that people usually knock before coming into the rooms? It's polite." Edward replied.
"There's no time for that. You have ten minutes to give all your presents to Alice, then she wants to go." Rose sighed.
"Fine, you'll live," Edward spoke after a second.
"What?" I asked surprised.
"Rose thought 'Don't kill the messenger', that's all." He answered.
"I hate when you have non-verbal conversations with people." I smiled and went outside the room to find my sister.
She was still in the room, looking like the most beautiful thing in the world. Her golden eyeshadow was lightly brushed above her eyes, mascara made her eyes look even bigger, which was charming. Light pink blush and the same color lipstick made her look very tender and feminine. Her long white dress was puffy and elegant, covering most of her skin. The puffiness made her body look a little heavier; however, her slim figure was still visible from underneath it. A short-laced veil was lying on her shoulders.
"Wow," I said when I finally stopped staring. "You look magnificent."
"I know." She smiled.
"So modest, that's what I love most about you." I laughed. "I have something for you."
I opened up my hand with all three items.
"That's your something blue. It belonged to mom, you don't remember, but you used to ask her all the time if you could try it on." I smiled at the memory and put it on around her neck. "Now, that's your something white. That's from me, it doesn't have a story, unfortunately."
"It's beautiful, both of them are." She looked in the mirror when she touched the necklace and the bracelet.
"And that's Cynthia's. Our dad's gift to her. Seeing as we would have to return it, even if we didn't ask for it, that's your something borrowed." I put a small golden brooch on Alice's bouquet. "Now, you have all four of us; mom, dad, Cynthia, and I with you on your day."
I looked at my sister and noticed that I wasn't the only one who was sobbing.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked.
"Yes, I'm just very happy. Thank you, you're the best sister anyone could ask for." She replied.
I gave her a big hug and held her for a few minutes until Emmett showed up.
"You ready, shortie?" He chuckled.
Emmett looked handsome, his rather old tux was still in a good shape, and he looked rather mature wearing it.
"I'll be right behind you," I assured her.
"Okay, I'm ready."
The two of them left right when Rose started playing Mendelssohn's march on Edward's piano. I glanced at a mirror, fixing my hair a little before I had to go myself. My light pink maid of honor dress was simple but elegant, the first thing was the way I liked, and the other was what Alice insisted on. It was cut at my ankles to show off the new pair of heels. I smiled, grabbed my bouquet, and walked out of the room to see Edward already waiting for me.
"Hello, beautiful."
"Hey, handsome." I smiled. His tux looked even older than Emmet's, but suit him nicely.
He took my arm in his, and we walked down the stairs, followed by Charlotte and Peter. The whole time my gaze switched from Alice in front of me to Edward beside me. They were the two most important people in the world for me. When we reached the bottom step and turned to the living room, I finally saw what Esme did with the decorations we got two days ago. All the furniture was moved to the garage to create more space for rented chairs and a minister stand. Every sitting space was decorated with flowers, the whole room smelled like them too. Peonies, daffodils, roses, even tulips were scattered around the room. I could see Rose behind the grand piano, Esme was in the front row, smiling at us. Beside her were two empty spaces saved for Rosalie and Emmett. Behind her, Eleazar and Carmen took their places, and thus conclude the right side of the aisle. On the left, the three blond sisters were standing at the front, Garrett, and Laurent behind them. I saw Emmett lifting Alice in his most popular bear hug before letting Jazz take her hand. Edward and I walked closer to Carlisle and parted ways. I was standing to Alice's right, while he went to Jasper's left. Peter and Charlotte followed the same way, accordingly. The rest were now sitting down.
"Dearly beloved," Carlisle started. "We're gathered here today to witness a union of Mary Alice Brandon and Jasper Whitlock. We are all here to support this commitment of love and to share the joy of Jasper and Alice as they choose to spend their lives together. Thank you to Isabella Marie Brandon for your presence here today. Your love and unwavering support throughout their lives have given them the confidence and tools necessary to enter into this new chapter together. Alice and Jasper, your marriage will be a lifelong promise to love, respect, trust and honor each other through the good, the bad, and the unexpected. This union represents your commitment to support one another as individual beings but share your joys, sorrows, and dreams as one. A strong bond works in unison not only to nurture the best parts of your personalities but to understand each other's differences and flaws. You are committing to learn how to grow alongside one another while remembering to keep an open mind throughout your journey. Today, you gain an equal partner that will be your confidant, your defender, and your motivator through all of your aspirations and goals. You will celebrate each accomplishment, provide peace through every setback, and most importantly, give love in life's both big and little moments. You are creating a new home where love, trust, and loyalty are the foundation. No matter what the future throws your way, rely on those foundations and you shall only see your bond grow stronger and your souls grow wiser. Marriage is not easy, but from what I've seen in the two of you, I know your relationship will be an example to follow. You show care and compassion, you trust one another, and most importantly, you are each other's best friend. Now, please join hands and face each other."
The couple turned towards each other; they were both smiling widely.
"Jasper Whitlock, do you take Mary Alice Brandon to be your wife?" Carlisle asked.
"I do."
"Mary Alice Brandon, do you take Jasper Whitlock to be your husband?"
"I do." Alice squeaked.
"Jasper, your vows, please," Carlisle added.
"I Jasper, take you, Alice, as you are, I promise from this day forward to love and treasure you for the rest of my life, to be your rock when things get tough, to be your number one supporter in all of your accomplishments, to be grateful for all that you are and for choosing to spend the rest of your journey with me, to be patient and kind, to build a safe and loving home with you, to fill your days with laughter, to inspire you to pursue your dreams, to be faithful and live a fulfilled life with you. This I promise you. From the moment I walked into that diner, I knew this day was coming, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us. I know I can conquer the world with one hand, as long as you're holding the other." He smiled.
"Alice." Carlisle looked at my sister.
"I Alice, take you, Jasper, as you are, today I promise to love you for the rest of my life, to fill your days with joy, to support you in days of sorrow, to be your best friend, to learn how to grow with you. You are my person, my inspiration, my love, and my everything. I cannot wait to spend a lifetime loving you. Marriage bridges two shores, binding us together as one unbroken path, on which I vow never to deviate, never to falter, and to always be by your side."
"Jasper, take the ring and place it on Alice's finger. Repeat after me: Alice, I give you this ring as a symbol of the promise I made to you today." Carlisle continued.
Jazz said the words and took the ring from Edward. He smiled at my sister and put it on her left arm.
"Alice, take the ring and place it on Jasper's finger. Repeat after me: Jasper, I give you this ring as a symbol of the promise I made to you today."
Alice turned to me, and I gave her the jewelry piece. She smiled widely before facing Jasper again.
"Having pledged your love and promise to one another today in front of all of your friends and family and by the power vested in me by the Anglican church of London, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride." Carlisle smiled at the couple as they embraced each other.
Feeling awkward watching my little sister, I instead looked at Edward and was surprised to see him looking back at me with a large grin on his face, which I returned. Everyone in the room was clapping now. Emmett went even further and was now whistling.
"Congratulations! Friends and family, it is my honor to introduce to you: Mr. and Mrs. Whitlock." Carlisle joined the clapping.
Alice and Jasper joined each other in another kiss but were soon separated by everyone else who wanted to congratulate them. I was the first one to hug the bride.
"I'm so happy for you, Alice. Congratulations, little sister." I whispered.
"Thank you, thank you for everything." She whispered back. "I love you."
"I love you."
I joined the line to congratulate Jasper next, he hugged me and swirled me around.
"I guess now you can call me a sister and really mean it."
"Who could have predicted it will turn out that way?" He smiled.
"Your wife?" I laughed.
"My wife, that sounds nice." He joined me.
"Congratulations, brother." I squeezed him once more before letting him go.
After the ceremony, there was a lot of dancing and Alice even made Tanya play a game of Scrabble with everyone else. It was decided that at midnight, the couple would leave for their honeymoon. Jasper was taking Alice to see Biloxi, along with other famous cities around that region. They would be gone for the whole month, so I was trying to get as much time with her as I had. I stole the second dance with Alice from Jasper but had to give her up for the third one with Carlisle. Edward was eager to show me some of his moves too but had to give in to Jazz and Emmett, the former requested me a few times actually. Apparently, he was trying to get back at me for purposely making him lose a bet by constantly stepping on my feet, but I didn't mind, I liked having him as a goofy big brother, seeing as I already had a serious one.
It was now time for the bride to throw her bouquet. Denali sisters were the first ones to line up behind Alice. Rosalie followed.
"What? I liked getting married the first time, but I would like to repeat, the dresses nowadays are so much more beautiful than they were 10 years ago." She told Tanya.
Before Alice threw her flowers, Edward pushed me into the line too, even though I protested. He gave me an assuring look like he knew something that I didn't. I decided to trust him, we've only been together for a few days, I doubted he was ready for a big step like that either. That's when the unexpected happened. Alice turned around, the bouquet still in her hands, and went straight to Kate. She winked at the blond vampire and simply handed her the flowers. Garrett's expression was pure shock, he was stunned; his mouth opened nearly as wide as his eyes.
"What's with the face?" Emmett laughed.
"Finally found yourself facing a scary adventure?" I added.
"Of course not," Garrett smirked. "In fact, Kate." He took her hands and stood down on one knee. "As soon as I met you, I found the adventure I've been waiting for since I was born. I'll follow you to the end of the Earth. Marry me?"
Now it was Kate's face that turned wide in surprise.
"Will you marry me, dear?" Garrett repeated, smiling wider.
"Yes." Was her simple answer. The man stood up and gave her a too inappropriate kiss for such a large family gathering. I noticed Laurent was now looking at Irina, and when I turned back to Edward, I met the same look on his face as well.
"Don't even think about it," I told him and he laughed.
"Baby steps. I can wait a little longer." He smiled.
"By a little longer, you mean a few years, right?"
"Whatever you want, love."
