Update: Golfbogey commented out that Rose's car indeed has only two seats, so I changed that. Thank you for that! However, there is a Chevrolet Corvette King, and it was one of the most popular luxury cars in 1990, so I'll be keeping the name.
I don't own any characters. They belong to Stephenie Meyer.
September 13th, 1992
Today was Isabella's 17th birthday which meant my family was finally moving to Forks to make sure she never had to encounter one like us. Carlisle enrolled all 6 of us into the Forks high school, which was very small compared to the last one that we went to. That last one was referred to as the test drive school by Emmett and me, which pissed off Rose and Edward. They didn't find the name funny, nor did they appreciate our jokes about our "lunch" being a few feet away from us at all times. I was happy my big brother was with me, at least he made boring classes feel fun. I regretted my decision to go back to school, apparently, when one has a supernatural ability to remember everything they hear or read, all the classes, home works and tests become annoying.
Besides the in-class activities, Rose was also making a huge impact on my hatred towards school. She made it her job to remind every day how miserable she is and that it's my fault we even have to do it in the first place. It was hard on Jasper; he still had the worst self-control out of all of us. In the previous school, at least one of us was constantly by his side, which made other students think he had some health issues. As Edward expected, most of them were scared of us even if they didn't show it.
This time around, we took care of all the little details that might cause issues at Forks. It was already weird enough that Isabella and I look so much alike. Alice and I changed our names to Cullen, so us and Emmet could pretend to be siblings. My sister and I were now posing as fraternal twins. Jasper was now a Hale because of his and Rosalie's physical resemblance. Edward was thought to be Carlisle's godson. All happily adopted and living under the same roof. How nice is that? Jasper thought it would also be a good idea for him to have a class or two without us, so the town folks won't think he has health problems this time, thus avoiding visits to the school nurse.
Our move to the house happened sooner than I expected. I still felt like a newlywed, and Edward and I just returned from our yet another trip to Europe just a few years ago. I liked traveling, seeing new things, learning new languages. And living alone, just him and I was a blessing, I missed the quietness.
The new house was big and secluded. Esme's best work. Three-story building with wooden and white brick exterior. Massive windows along the back wall of the house, just like in most of our old homes. It was surrounded by forest and there was even a small creek running less than a mile away from the house. A long driveway that could fit all of our cars and a big garage where Rosalie could work on those said cars. Everything looked perfect. We moved into the house in the afternoon and spent most of our day unpacking boxes. During the night, we were all helping Alice unpack her clothes and sort them out in her walk-in closet.
The next day was a Monday, which meant we were all going to school. Alice, Jazz, Edward, and I got into my husband's old Honda Accord, which was fast and at the same time a lot less noticeable than most of our other cars. Rosalie took her Chevrolet Corvette King with Emmett. That one was guaranteed to steel some high-schoolers gazes. We arrived at the parking lot early enough to get our schedules. So far, Edward and I only had biology and English together, but I shared some other classes with Alice and Government with Jasper. The only class that I had without my siblings was calculus.
When we walked out of the administration building, the parking lot was much fuller. Most of the parking spaces were taken, students were talking to each other in clusters. A large crowd was gathered next to a fairly new bright red Honda motorcycle. Edward and I kissed in the parking lot before parting our ways. I had trigonometry first, so Alice took my hand in hers and led me to Building A.
"Can you believe we're going to meet Isabella today?" She squeaked quietly.
"Can you see how it's going to go?" I asked.
"Oh, Bella, are you nervous?"
"A little," I said honestly.
"It's going to be great, as far as I see at least." She smiled at me. "Now, let's get it over with, I always hated math."
I laughed at my sister before following her to the classroom. The teacher, Mr. Copeland was an older man with some silver in his hair. He wore big glasses and a green vest on top of his white button-up shirt. I noticed Alice looking terrified at the vest like she was thinking of ripping it from the poor man's body and setting it on fire.
"I know it feels like he's doing it just to piss you off, but it's not true. Just breathe." I laughed.
"It's horrible, Bella." She spoke never switching her stare away from Mr. Copeland's vest.
We took our seats, the class was still rather empty, and we decided to stick to the end row, so other students would have less of a chance to stare at us. In a few minutes, a small crowd of people came inside the room laughing but stopped when they saw us. Luckily, the bell rang at that exact moment, so they had to take their seats and pay attention to the teacher.
"Good morning, everyone. As some of you might have noticed, we have two new students in class. Miss Bella and Alice Cullen are joining us from Ohio. I hope all of you will welcome them and help if they need to. Now, let's start. First of all, who can tell me what we did last week?" the teacher started.
Mr. Copeland was talking for the most part of the class, he called a few people to the board to solve some equations a few times. I got bored, so I started doodling in my notebook. I wasn't a particular fan of math either and hearing the same lecture that I've heard in my test-drive school definitely wasn't helping me with that. I heard that the two kids in the middle row were whispering about us, the newcomers to the school. Great, now we're the new toys.
When the bell finally rang, I stood up and waited for Alice to gather her things.
"Hey, I'm Eli Benson. You're Bella, right?"
I looked up; Eli was a tall dark-skinned guy with raven black hair. I was prepared for the possibility that someone might introduce themselves to us, so I smiled at him.
"Hello. Yes, it's Bella. And this is my sister Alice. Nice to meet you."
"Do you girls need someone to show you to the next class?" Eli kept talking. Crap, why can't some people feel scared around us? I definitely didn't want to make human friends.
"No, we're good, thanks," I replied.
"Oh, okay. Well, if you ever need help finding a classroom, let me know." He lowered his head and ran away from the classroom.
"Bella! Why so mean?" Alice asked.
"We're only here for Isabella, that's the only human I'm willing to make any connections with."
Alice whispered something along with the words: 'buzzkill' and disappeared through the door. I sighed and put my bag on my shoulder. Edward met me outside the classroom, which made my smile return to my face.
"Hey, love." He spoke.
"Hi. How was geography?" I asked.
"Like always. You will be surprised, but apparently, our borders are the same as they were 50 years ago."
"What an amazing fact!" I opened my mouth in a fake surprise and we kept walking to Building D where we both had English.
English teacher, Mr. Brown didn't make any introductions of either himself or us, so I breathed out. During the class, Edward was playing with my hand under the table which made me smile. This month's literature piece was "Wuthering Heights," one of my favorites. I had three copies of it in the house and not only to make Edward miserable seeing as he hated the book. It was controversial for its depictions of mental and physical cruelty, and for its challenges to Victorian morality and religious and societal values, but I still really enjoyed the plot. I related to Catherine, her emotions, and pure love to Heathcliff. Especially when she said: "He's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." Those were my own thoughts about Edward and me.
Mr. Brown advised us to start reading it as soon as possible, as the essay deadline was coming up in just a few weeks. I could probably find the one that I wrote at the previous school and submit it after changing the name from Isabella to Bella on the first page. That was easy.
"Have you heard anything about Isabella?" I wrote on a piece of paper before moving it towards Edward.
"Quite a few people were thinking about her on the parking lot actually." He wrote back after a second.
"What is she like?"
"You might look identical, but your personalities are completely different."
"What do you mean by that?"
"I'll explain after class." As soon as I read the last word, the piece of paper disappeared. Edward had his head turned to the front now.
"Mr. Cullen, can you repeat what I just said?" the teacher asked.
"Treachery and violence are spears pointed at both ends; they wound those who resort to them worse than their enemies. Those were the words of Hindley. He also proceeded by saying: Mrs. Heathcliff, I'll ask you to do nothing, but sit still and be dumb. Tell me now, can you? I'm sure you would have as much pleasure as I in witnessing the conclusion of the fiend's existence; he'll be your death unless you overreach him, and he'll be my ruin. Damn the hellish villain! He knocks at the door as if he were master here already! Promise to hold your tongue, and before that clock strikes - it wants three minutes of one - you're a free woman!" Edward cited.
"You have quite a memory, Mr. Cullen." The teacher looked a little pissed but continued his class without saying anything.
"You were reading my books," I whispered.
"You're so fond of them, how could I not at least try to understand your obsession with your favorite novel." He smiled at me.
"How many girls are thinking about you being in their beds now?" I giggled quietly.
"A few." He answered embarrassed.
"Good thing, one is sitting right next to you. But we can talk about that when we get home." I smiled.
"Mrs. Cullen, there will be no talking when we get home." He whispered back. His words made my stomach turn in pleasure.
The bell rang and I packed my bag. Edward took my hand in his when we walked into the crowded hallway.
"So, what did you mean by she has a completely different personality?" I asked.
"Well, she's very outgoing for one."
"Hey, I'm outgoing!" I spoke.
"Love, we both know you would rather sit inside by yourself and read instead of going out."
"Fine, what else?" I gave up.
"She has lots of friends, she enjoys being the center of attention, um…She is not a very bright kid, a tomboy, very outspoken…Too outspoken, if you ask me. She likes breaking rules and getting in trouble."
"What did Renee do? Did she not pay any attention to her upbringing?" I asked.
"I don't know yet. Maybe when I see her, I can get more information for you."
"Thank you."
Edward and I parted ways at my next class which I shared with Emmett and met again before I had to join Rose and Jazz at History. It was the last class before the lunch period which I was anticipating. So far, I haven't seen Isabella in any classes or hallways. Edward hasn't either as far as I was aware of. History class was rather interesting in the sense that some parts were definitely rewritten. My first history classes, the time that I was studying in Biloxi, which I don't remember vividly, and the history classes that I took in the Ohio high school were a little different from this one. Maybe it was the democratic view of things in the Washington state battling republican Ohio or maybe it's different time periods that made the authors rewrite some of the facts. I noticed Jasper's face turn sad and then angry a few times. He had a very advanced knowledge on the subject and was alive during some of the historical events, so I could understand his frustrations about the inaccuracy of the textbook. Rosalie didn't look fazed at all with the subject in the matter, she kept staring at her nails or playing with her hair throughout the whole class time.
When the class was finally finished, I walked out of the room and went towards the cafeteria, leaving Rose and Jazz to talk to the teacher. We were met by Edward, Alice, and Emmett at the entrance door. My husband took my hand and we walked in together. At that moment it felt like everyone was staring at us. But my eyes, my eyes were running around the room, trying to find a face that was so similar to mine. My eyes locked for a small portion of a second with a pair of wide, chocolate brown human eyes set in a pale, heart-shaped face. I knew the face; I have seen it in the mirror so many years ago. She was surrounded by people, at least a dozen of them. Edward was right, Isabella was the center of attention and she looked like she really enjoyed it. Her hair was different than mine though. It was shorter, much shorter. When mine reached my waist and was naturally curled and brown, hers barely touched the shoulders, and except for the roots, dyed blond. The widow's peak that we both shared was the only resemblance with the hair. Even with such difference, we could easily be mistaken for identical twins if I was still human.
Edward grabbed my attention and led me to the cafeteria line. I was putting food on my tray without paying any attention to my actions, my mind was with Isabella and her friends, I was listening thoroughly to their conversations.
"Who are they?" Isabella's voice was now ringing in my ears.
"Newbies. Just transferred from Ohio." A red-haired girl told her. "Didn't your dad tell you?"
"He might have."
"Well, they're the new doctor's adoptive kids. Dr. Cullen is young, maybe 30 or just above it, the blond ones are Rosalie and Jasper Hale, twins. The other two girls are twins as well, Alice and Bella, and the big guy, Emmett is their older brother. I wouldn't want to mess with his sisters if I was a dude. The last one is Edward; I think my mom said he's doctor's nephew or godson or whatever."
"Has he turned you down already?" Isabella laughed.
"Shut up. If you want my opinion, they're all freaks. I mean, c'mon they're supposed to be siblings, and yet Rosalie and the big guy Emmett look like they're about to lock themselves in the janitor closet during the breaks, and Jasper and that shortie are always holding hands too. Candice said she saw Edward kissing that one in the parking lot. That's just weird and gross." The girl spoke again. At least, she doesn't want to be friends with us.
"Oh, come on Roxy, they're not even related."
"So what? They live under the same roof! I don't know how you don't see how weird it is."
"I should go invite them to sit with us," Isabella said and I felt the apple that I just picked up drop from my hands. Luckily, Edward caught it mid-air and put it on my tray.
"Calm down." He whispered in my ear.
"I'm alright," I assured him.
I heard loud footsteps coming towards me from behind. The clicks that her heels made were echoing in my head. Clink-clink-clink. Suddenly, it stopped.
"Hey, I'm Izzy. You guys must be new, how would you like to sit with me and some of my friends, I'll tell you everything about the town and school." Her voice was so close, I couldn't take it anymore.
I turned around to face Isabella, or Izzy, which she apparently preferred more. I started wondering if anyone in my family named Isabella actually liked the full name.
The moment our eyes met; I noticed her jaw dropped in surprise. Oh, how I wished at that moment I could have Edward's ability. The whole cafeteria sounded quiet.
"Sure, we would love to join you," Alice spoke first. She took Isabella by her hand and led her to an empty table.
"Edward." I hissed.
"Yes."
"What was she thinking?" I asked.
"She was thinking if her mom ever mentioned adoption." He spoke and I stared at him confused.
"The resemblance, she noticed it too. She thinks she might have been adopted and you two were separated at birth." Edward smiled.
"Oh, well…That's kind of funny, isn't it?" I giggled a little.
"If you think so." His smile grew. "Okay, let's join them."
Edward took my hand and led me to the table, where Alice and Isabella were already chatting. I sat two seats away from Izzy, at least that way she wouldn't have a clear vision of me to begin thinking about us being twins again.
"So, I was just telling Alice that my friends and I are going to the beach this weekend. You should come with us; it will be so much fun." Isabella spoke.
"What are you guys planning to do there?" Edward asked.
"It's still warm enough to surf, but if there are no waves, we can also get bikes from my friends and drive around."
"That sounds totally fun. We should go, Bella please say yes!" My sister squeaked.
"What beach are you going to?" Edward asked.
"La Push, it's in the Quileute reservation." The girl answered.
"We can't go," Edward spoke.
"No, it's very close from here, just outside the city. I can call your parents if that's what you're worried about. My dad is the Chief of the Police, I'm sure they won't mind if the Chief's daughter took you on a trip."
"It's not that, we just can't." Edward tried to put on a smile, but I could see through it. What was so wrong with La Push?
"But, Edward…" Alice started.
"Alice, I said no. End of the discussion, we can talk about it at home."
"You're not her dad, man! If she wants to go, she can drive in my car." Isabella was angry.
Edward gave her a frustrated look and picked up his tray. I looked at Alice in shock.
"How about I ask Carlisle and Esme tonight and let you know, okay?" Now it was me trying to fake a smile.
"Sure." Isabella breathed out.
"Hey, Iz!" a short guy with dark black hair appeared in front of us. "Hey, guys." He waved at us.
"Mark, this is Alice and Bella." Her voice cracked a bit when she said my name. "Guys, this is Mark."
"Nice to meet you," I spoke.
"I invited them to go to the beach with us this weekend," Isabella mentioned. "You don't mind right?"
"The more, the merrier." He smiled and sat at the table.
Suddenly, it came to my attention that Rose, Emmett, and Jazz weren't in the room anymore. I wondered where they went. Maybe Jasper needed a time-out, a little fresh air? I was hoping that was the case.
I tried getting back into the conversation that was happening at our table. Two more humans joined us and now the table looked crowded. Both of them were males, one had dirty blond hair and glasses, the other was a brunette with very nice light blue eyes. Alice was asking what we should bring with us and where we were meeting before starting the trip to La Push. Oh, how I wished she waited with all these questions until I talk to Edward.
"Will your other siblings join us if everything goes as planned?" Isabella asked.
"Most likely." My sister smiled.
"Rosalie and Jasper have plans already," I added. There was no way Jazz would be alright going on a trip with humans. Alice and I were the most tolerant to human blood, except for Carlisle, of course. What would happen if one of the humans stepped on the rock and started bleeding? We would probably have to kill all of them in order to not get tracked down by the Volturi. Rosalie would give me so much headache if she had to go, so I put her on the bench for this time too.
"Emmett might find it interesting though," Alice spoke again.
"That he would." I chuckled.
"If everything goes well, we will meet you at your house at 9 on Saturday," I told the humans. I know I should probably just use their names and not their biological species, but it was so much easier to see them as lunch and not…well…people. For me, the only heart-beating living thing in that room that mattered was Isabella.
After lunch, all of us went out of the cafeteria. I breathed in fresh air to stabilize my thirst a little and headed to Biology. I met Edward in the classroom, he was sitting in the middle of the right row of tables. Luckily, there was only one girl sitting in class, but even she was wearing earphones, so I was able to talk without any fear of being heard.
"I've never seen you this angry before with Alice. What happened? What's wrong with La Push?" I asked.
He looked at the girl, and apparently found her completely indulged in her playlist because he turned his eyes on me again and whispered:
"Werewolves. That's what's wrong with La Push."
"What? Werewolves?" I chuckled. No way.
"You are an immortal being who needs to drink blood to survive, did you assume we were the only supernatural creatures in the world?"
"You've never told me. We've known each other for more than 50 years and you never thought you should mention it?" I whispered.
"There was no point. Our plan for Forks never included going into the Reservation. We were supposed to be in school and then come straight home or watch Isabella's house for possible intruders. No beach trips." Edward looked at me.
"Are you saying it's my fault that she invited us there?"
"No, no, of course not. I'm sorry, love, it just complicates things. She knows some of the people there, has friendships with some of the descendants of the wolves we met 60 years ago."
"So, she is an accident magnet too?" Edward frowned. "I know it's not funny, you know I can't help it."
"I know." He pulled me closer to him and kissed me on the head. "It will be fine, just need to figure out a way to make her believe I'm not some kind of abusive brother with a god complex."
"Is that what she thinks of you?" I laughed.
"Yes."
"We'll figure something out," I whispered when the teacher walked into the room.
The class went smoothly, we did a lab assignment in less than 5 minutes and spent the rest of the class talking about the Quileute tribe and their history with my family. Edward told me that Taha Aki's descendants no longer turned to wolves unless the cold one, like us, was near them. When the Cullens came to Washington all these years ago, there were only 3 wolves in the pack. The leader of the pack, Ephraim Black spoke to Carlisle and promised he wouldn't tell our secret to the mortals if we don't hunt them and don't turn them into one like us. So the treaty was made and apparently was still in my place even though Edward doubted the new generation still had the gene for transformation. He promised to show Jasper, Alice, and me the treaty line as we were not allowed to go on the reservation, not even to hunt animals.
I said goodbye to Edward after he walked me to my next class. Spanish was the only other language that the school was offering this semester, and even though I was fluent in it, I took it. Languages were so much less boring than the gym, which I was exempted from, or economics which I preferred to avoid.
A Spanish teacher was a woman in her late 40s with shoulder-length wavy black hair. She looked Hispanic and I hoped she was a native Spanish speaker. I wouldn't be able to sit through lectures and correct the teacher's pronunciation in my head again, moreover, I doubted Esme would be as understanding as she was in Ohio, where I had to switch three language teachers because of my outspokenness.
"Good day, Miss Cullen. My name is Mrs. Torres, hope you'll find my class enjoyable." The woman said with an accent which made me smile. "It looks like the only seat left is with Miss Swan in the back. Please proceed."
My smile dropped momentarily. I was trapped. My lying skills were beyond perfect, but seating through the whole class period without raising any suspicion in Isabella's mind will be hard, especially after Edward's emotional outburst during lunchtime. This will be my 55-minute personal hell.
"Hello again." She smiled at me as I took the seat next to her. I took a breath and the smell of my great-great-niece's blood filled my throat. Surprisingly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Her blood, of course, burned my throat, but I didn't want to drink it. There was something wrong with it.
"Hey." I put on a friendly smile.
"Tell me you know anything about Spanish, because I failed it last year and I can't do it this year too." Isabella looked at me hopefully.
"I know a little." I lied.
"At least you won't drown with me when we do the project."
"Project?" I asked.
"Yeah, Torres gives us a project every year, so we can learn how to work in pairs and learn Spanish at the same time."
"That sounds like a good exercise."
"I don't know, sounds like a load of crap to me. Who even needs Spanish? We live in Washington; you know how many people speak that stupid language here?" She asked.
"About 200,000 people?" I chuckled.
"There is no way…" She started again but stopped when she saw my face. "Seriously?"
"Yeah, it's pretty popular. In fact, it was actually Juan Perez who was the first European explorer to land in present-day Washington in 1774. And the following year, Spanish explorers Bruno Heceta and Bodega y Quadra came to Point Grenville, just two hours away from here. First Europeans who landed on Washington soil. Then there were…"
"I get it. Lots of Spanish people." She interrupted. "You're such a bookworm, Bella."
"Maybe that will help you pass Spanish this year," I spoke back.
"Sorry." Isabella shook her head. "I'm just not good at this. School is really kicking my ass, if we had a little more practical lessons instead of constant lectures, maybe it would actually help me remember things."
"I can help you practice," I spoke before thinking. Damn it.
"Really? I mean thank you, that would be really great!" She smiled. "My dad will kill me if I fail another class."
"What classes did you fail?" I asked surprised. Are her parents not teaching her anything?
"Well, Spanish last year, geography, calculus, and English."
"How did they let you get into the junior year?"
"My dad. He promised teachers I'll study in the summer and do tutoring. He's the Chief of the Police, it's a small town, everyone knows each other, he let go some of the teachers' kids without a speeding ticket. They believed him, so now I'm here."
"Okay, so you have a tutor?"
"Mark and Roxy were helping me at first, but I guess I'm a tough kid to teach or they aren't as bright as they thought they were." She chuckled. "Pretty sure I threw a book at them a few times, so they gave up."
"How about I tutor you? I don't mind getting a book in my face." What's happening with me today? Did I suddenly become Mother Theresa or was it my maternal hormones finally coming around?
"Thank you." Isabella smiled. "You know, we just met but it seems like I know you. Stupid, isn't it?"
"Not at all." I smiled back. "Do you always have this charming effect on people?"
"Only when I want them to find me charming." She shook her shoulders.
"So, when you want them to help you with homework." I laughed.
"Yeah…"
"Got it."
The class began and we both looked at Mrs. Torres. For these 55 minutes, my only goal was to not stare at Isabella. I really didn't want her to think I'm creepy. I caught myself looking in her direction a few times. She was here, another piece of my family was here and she was perfect, except for her knowledge skills. She was funny and outgoing, charming and welcoming, just like Edward said. She was my family, and if the only chance to get to know her better and keep her safe is to tutor her, then be it.
"You free tonight to study?" I asked when the bell rang.
"My boyfriend and I have a date. Tomorrow? After school maybe?" She asked.
"Sure, I'll follow your car."
"Edward wouldn't mind that you take his car?" She asked.
"I'll take my car tomorrow, so he doesn't have to worry," I assured her.
"God, how rich are you guys?"
"That's a pretty rude question to ask a stranger." I laughed.
"Fine, see you tomorrow." She smiled and walked out of the classroom. I packed my bag and followed her lead. Edward was waiting for me at the door again.
"You heard?" I asked him.
"Yes, and I think it's a great idea. As long as you're staying with her, we can be sure no…um strangers…are getting her in danger." He spoke. "Just promise me you won't go to the Reservation or get yourself into a fight with a one like us while hanging out with her."
"I promise."
The next day I followed Bella home after school. It was finally my chance to get my 1990 Chevrolet Pickup Truck out of the garage. "The beast" as Rose nicknamed it, was bright red and shiny. It actually helped us move some of the boxes, so we didn't need to get 3 moving trucks this time. The engine roared and it was going so smooth and fast on the roads. Isabella was one hell of a driver, especially considering she was the Chief's daughter. Her motorcycle was moving definitely above the speed limit and even I, on "the beast" had some trouble catching up to her.
Her house looked ordinary, just like the house we saw in every other state, no design work, that's for sure. It was made out of white pallets; the roof was a deep blue. The front windows were covered by a massive oak tree. I parked in the driveway and hopped out of my seat. Isabella took off her helmet and got her bike into the garage. She opened the door and invited me in. We put our coats on hangers and took off our shoes next to the door. The house was warm and welcoming.
"Izzy, you have guests?" said a female voice.
"Yes, Bella Cullen is here to help me with Spanish, mom," Isabella screamed back.
"I'll be in my workshop if you need anything!" The voice said again. Correction, not the voice, my niece, Renee. How weird was that?
"My room is upstairs; do you want anything before we start? A glass of water? There is juice in the fridge." Isabella asked.
"I'm good, thank you."
I followed her upstairs and into the room. The walls were a deep green color, she had some flowerpots with ivy hanging on both sides of her window. Like this town needs more green in it! I sat on the rocking chair next to her desk, while she was taking out her textbook and clearing out the mess on her table. We started with some exercises. It took her exactly 14 minutes and 26 seconds to switch the topic though.
"Have you talked to your parents about the trip?" She asked. Great, so I will have to lie.
"Yeah, sorry, Edward was right. We can't go."
"Can I ask why?"
"You can ask."
"Are you going to answer me?"
"Family drama."
"That's not the answer." She shook her head.
"Well, that's all you're getting." I smiled.
"Fine, is the family drama Edward? Does he have a problem?"
"Not that's any of your business, but no. Edward is just trying to protect us."
"All of you guys?" She smirked.
"Are you asking if Edward and I are together?"
"Not that's any of my business, I get it." She looked at the table.
"Just keep doing the exercise." I smiled at her when she took a pen in her hands again. "And yes, we are. Dating I mean."
"That's cool."
Another few minutes later she dropped her pen on the desk again.
"We should go on a double date. You and Edward and Felix and I. He'll be in town next weekend."
"I'll ask Edward, but no guarantees. Now, will you please finish at least this page?" I pushed the textbook closer to Isabella. Our fingers touched when she went forward to grab it and I instantly pulled mine away. Crap.
"Are you cold? I can get you a blanket." She stared into my eyes, contemplating something.
"No, it's okay. I just have very poor blood circulation in my limbs." I lied again.
"Sure…" I didn't understand if it was a question or a statement, so I just shook my head yes.
These study sessions will be harder than I thought.
