Disclaimer: This is a non-commercial work of fanfiction. Any recognizable characters from Newsies belong to Disney and not to me.
A/N: I've been playing with the idea of an "Under the Sea" x "Santa Fe (Prologue)" parody for a while (because thematically there's a lot of similarity there), but never got around to working on it until today, when the plot bunnies finally decided to oblige me. Pure silliness and, obviously, tonally very different from "Santa Fe (Prologue") (which is the primary inspiration, though there are nods to "Santa Fe" and "Letter from the Refuge" as well), but I managed to amuse myself while writing it, so I hope that it gives anyone who reads it a few chortles, too.
Bonus points if you listen to it with the music on in the background, and double bonus points if you sing along. ;)
Jack is always the speaker unless otherwise noted.
In Santa Fe (A parody of "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid)
.
Crutchie, listen to me: New York City,
It's a mess. Life in Santa Fe is better
Than anything we got right here!
.
The sunshine is always brighter
Out West where the small towns are.
I dream about going out there
Where I can see all the stars.
Just look at the streets around you:
All those buildings in your way!
It ain't all that satisfyin'
When you's dyin' to get away.
.
In Santa Fe!
In Santa Fe!
Crutchie, it's dandy
Out where it's sandy
Take it from me!
Here in New York we work all day;
Why not go West on the railway?
Won't be recantin'
When we is plantin'
In Santa Fe!
.
Out there all the folks is happy
As around their fires they loll.
The boys livin' here ain't happy;
We's sad 'cause our only goal
Is to sell the World and Journal,
Just scrapin' by all the time,
Gettin' conned out of our pennies
For Pulitzer's bottom line.
.
In Santa Fe! In Santa Fe,
Ain't no more lyin'
No fat men tryin'
To keep our pay!
Out there it's work and then some play,
Lyin' around every Sunday,
Ain't no shame restin'
No one's protestin'
In Santa Fe!
.
Crutchie: In Santa Fe!
Jack: In Santa Fe!
Crutchie: In Santa Fe!
.
The city's neat there,
Livin' is sweet there
Naturally!
It's always clean and green instead,
Just like a paintin' in your head,
Close your eyes; see it?
Breathe and believe it,
It's Santa Fe!
.
The town, it's so new
(Can you see it, too?)
All made outta clay,
The view clear as day,
With friends who's like kin,
They'll take us right in,
And beg us both to stay!
.
We'll work on the land,
Swim the Rio Grande,
Race down and hop those
Wild palominos!
I bet in a lick
The air'd cure you quick -
.
Crutchie: Then I could run again!
.
Yeah, in Santa Fe!
In Santa Fe!
Buildin' a life there
With no more strife there
Cloudin' our way!
Let's leave this place and start brand new,
Out in the land where dreams come true,
Ain't more headlines,
Forget the deadlines
In Santa Fe!
.
No need to pander,
Out in the sand there,
In Santa Fe!
.
We'll cut our losses,
Trade in our bosses
For warm embraces,
Save us our places
Under that gold moon,
Yeah, we'll be there soon
In Santa Fe!
A/N: Thanks for reading! I'd love to hear what you thought of this parody. :P
