After getting through all the dangerous traps the evil lich king places before you, you reach the final tower where the lich's phylactery is held. Finding it and destroying it will grant you the key to victory over the lich. You get to the top, but just as you have the phylactery in your sights, you hear a low groan overhead. Looking up, and you see the unforgettable muzzle and maw of the Elder Black Dragon that's been hunting you down for all this time. What do you do?
"I ROLL TO SEDUCE IT!" Dot shouts standing in her seat. Everyone starts to roar with laughter because of course, the bard would want to sleep with a dragon. It was L&L night and they were reaching the end of the campaign, all they had to do was kill the big bad. However, this dragon always kicked their butts every time they encounter it, and every single time they encounter it, Dot would ask if she could seduce it. Once everyone calmed down from that running gag, Dot cleared her throat, "But no, in all seriousness, what the hell?!"
"Yeah, this thing is way too persistent in killing us." Setex crosses her arms, "I mean what do we do? I'm saving my good spells for the boss."
"I mean we could take a long rest after we kill the dragon," Lona suggests.
"No dice. We need to kill the lich ASAP, Lona." Peng jabs the table, "Every day we wait, the more his army grows, and the sooner he'll march on the capital."
"Well, it's not like we're going to be able to kill this thing in one turn!"
"Actually, I'm looking over my items guys. We could do a chain of spells." Setex holds up her sheet to show everyone, "If I give Peng's character this ring and also give her this +2 armor, her AC will be at least 23. Then we apply layers of shield, boosting her AC even more. Not to mention she has a defender combat style so that's another plus 2. That's 30 AC. We can send her in as a one-woman army!"
"I'm not worried about getting damaged. I'm worried about how damage I'm dealing with it!" Peng lays her head on the table, clearly distressed, looking at Yuri, the GM, for sympathy. Being the GM, he shows no mercy.
"You still have that legendary sword that does fire damage, right?"
"We flavored it as a size-changing pillar but yes."
"Good. I have some oil, we can sharpen it and make it even more deadly. I then can also give you this potion I brewed earlier during our short rest. There's a 25% chance it won't work but eh. Worth a shot."
"Ok, we're getting there."
"Being the healer, I can heal you if you go down," Lona adds.
"And I can give you inspiration so you add to your attacks." Dot says with pride.
"Ok, so that's our battle plan! Perfect!" Peng looks to Yuri, "we are ready!"
Yuri gets a creepy grin on his face, "Good. Roll for initiative."
Short answer: They lost. Long answer: Lona died, Setex's character went blind, and Dot and Peng barely managed to get out in one piece with the thing and escape the dragon. But now they have the box, a pissed-off dragon, a blind wizard, and their medic is dead. Sufficed to say, they are fucked. Out of the game, everyone is screaming and panicking while Yuri laughs at their suffering.
It was during these moments that they bonded.
Everyone decided to take a break and watch a movie together, to clear their minds while Lona built a new character, this one being the 5th. Dot was cuddled up to Yuri, Setex wrapped herself onto Yuri, whispering sweet nothings into his ear, and Peng sat in the other chair with a pillow and the bowl of popcorn, ignoring the attempted threesome next to her.
These were the best of nights.
