The next day, after having brought the trap into school, while most kids were watching a VHS tape of Child's Play from 1988, Podcast was trying to pry the trap open but to no avail. Grooberson noticed and stood up.
"I've gotta know what's lurking inside." Podcast says
"Whoa, killer replica." Grooberson says as he walks over and picks up the trap
"Totally." Podcast comments
"A replica of what?" Phoebe comments
"A trap." Grooberson says before noticing neither of the two knew what he was talking about. "A ghost trap?" he added, even more confused Podcast had no clue what it is. "Come on, how do you of all people not know what this is?"
"I'm ashamed of myself." Podcast comments
Grooberson kept examining the trap.
"I was obsessed." Grooberson stated. "New York in the mid 80s to early 90s, it was like the walking dead."
"Then it just...stopped?" Phoebe asks
"Uh huh." Grooberson says. "I mean, there hasn't been a ghost sighting in over 30 years, especially in New York."
Suddenly, a light steam emerged from the top of the trap before instantly retracting back into it and he dropped it, making it spark a little. Something was clearly in there that wanted out somehow.
"Wait a minute..." Grooberson comments, kneeling down a little. "This thing is real?"
"Absolutely." Podcast comments
"Maybe." Phoebe stated. "I found it in my living room."
"She lives in the Dirt farm." Podcast says to Grooberson. "You know, that really spooky one that says 'dirt on it?"
Grooberson nodded before Phoebe looked at him and asks, "What happened in New York?"
Later, Grooberson had brought the two to a side take and played some old archival news footage from the mid 80s to early 90s
"The whole city was freaking out and then a team of guys showed up with back mounted proton accelerators and blew the roof off of a Manhattan high rise in 84, made the Statue of Liberty come to life in 89, and in 91 they destroyed a graveyard that rose from the ground in Central Park." Grooberson says before looking at Phoebe and Podcast. "None of this rings a bell?"
"All those years were way before either of us were even born." Phoebe stated
"Well, I believe it." Podcast comments
"Your dad never mentioned any of these events to you?" Grooberson asked Phoebe
Phoebe was silent before saying, "just my mom."
"Oh. I see." Grooberson says. "Wonder if this old trap still works."
Later, after school was out for the day, they hadf the trap on the hood of Grooberson's car, two jumper cable ends attached to it and two attached to an un covered engine spot on a school bus.
"Are you sure this is safe with what we have?" Phoebe asks
"Safe? No. History is safe. Geometry, that's safe." Grooberson comments as he handed Podcast a set of keys to start the bus's engine and Phoebe set up the trap's pedal. "Science is all particle accelerators and hydrogen bombs. Science is giving yourself the plague and gambling on the cure."
"So it's pretty reckless." Phoebe stated
"Yes, yes it is." Grooberson responds. "Safety pins are the nipples of academia."
"Ouch." Podcast comments
Grooberson nodded and instructs Podcast saying, "Fire it up."
Podcast turns on the bus's engine which made a light on the trap blink on and the trap sparked.
"I've always wanted to do this..." Grooberson says, placing his foot on the pedal
However, when he pushed it down, it didn't budge. He pushed it a few more times, but nothing. So, he cautiously walked over and got ready to tap the top, gesturing for Phoebe to stay where she was by the bus doors.
He tapped the roof and the moment he did, the trap twitched violently and sprung open and some ghost-dog-like spirit shot up and roared as it took off flying, Phoebe screaming as she hid under some cover in the bus. Each window the ghost passed by, even the windows on Grooberson's car and it kept shooting off into the distance, Grooberson having been knocked to the ground.
For some reason, the spirit went right to the Shandor mine and entered the object under the tarp. Back at the buses, Phoebe and Podcast stepped out as Grooberson stood up.
"YES!" Podcast shouts
"We should probably get out of here." Grooberson says
Both Phoebe and Podcast looked at him.
"But you're an adult." Phoebe states
"Yeah, and liable." Grooberson responds
He started to gather up his things as Podcast walked over to Phoebe.
"You know what this means, right?" Podcast asks, gently placing a hand on Phoebe's shoulder. "Your grandfather was a Ghostbuster."
"Yes, I am very much aware of that now." Phoebe responds, taking off her goggles
Then, later that same day, Grooberson had brought Phoebe and Podcast back to the dirt farm. Even with the shattered windows on the car. When they entered, Phoebe went and set her bag down and Podcast was recording for his podcast.
"It has doors and windows like any other ordinary house, but the distinct smell of evil..." Podcast says into his mic and taking a whiff. "..is prominent."
"What are you doing?" Grooberson questions
"Just giving a little a color, setting the mood." Podcast responds
"Oh. Creepy, I dig it." Grooberson responds
While exploring, Podcast grabbed some sort of neck worn trinket off the wall.
"Whoa, Aztec Death Whistle." Grooberson comments when seeing it. "It's meant to ward of evil spirits, it's said to have a really horrifying sound-"
That exact moment, Podcast blew into the whistle and it let out this high pitched screech like noise, causing everyone to cover their ears. That's when Callie walked into the room.
"Um...what the hell is that?" Callie questions
"An Aztec Death Whistle." Podcast answered. "Can I keep it?"
"Sure, just...don't do that again. Please." Callie responds
Podcast nodded and stuffed thew whistle into his pockets. That's when Callie noticed Grooberson.
"hi." Callie says
"Hello again." Grooberson responds
"You...brought them home." Callie comments
"It's a little side service I provide with my teacher job and whatnot." Grooberson responds. "Truth is, i've always kinda wondered what lurked inside this hauntbox."
"Right. Well, only thing lurking inside here is my slowly decaying soul." Callie responds
"Is that what that smell is?" Grooberson says to keep the mood light
"Well, it's not dinner." Callie responds. "I don't have any food, would you like a tour?"
"Sure." Grooberson responds
When Phoebe and Podcast went upstairs to Phoebe's room while Grooberson was being given a tour, Podcast was looking through a book called Tobin's Spirit Guide as Phoebe was playing some chess with whatever ghost was in the house.
"I think Grooberson's trying to bone your mom." Podcast comments
Phoebe rose an eyebrow before taking a deep breath and saying, "Oh."
"You're...not being bothered by that?" Podcast asks
"No of course it's bothering me. I just don't exhibit emotions the same way everyone else does." Phoebe comments. "Inside, i'm vomiting up a river."
Podcast then reached a page in the book.
"Wait...doesn't this look like that thing we saw earlier?" Podcast comments
Phoebe set down the pawn piece she was gonna move on the chess board and walked over, looking at the book.
"'The Sumerians believed in a land of the dead, a dark and shadowy real within the bowels of the planet and the souls of the dead are ruled over by a mighty god. Gozer. They are protected by a powerful gatekeeper and keymaster. In order that Gozer might rise up and walk the living plain again, the gatekeeper and keymaster must assume the form of beasts.'." Podcast read
"What did we let out?" Phoebe questioned
