Chapter 1
Getting the mission

~No one~

Ahsoka was in her quarters thinking about the mission that she and her master were assigned. Well that is until her master was told that there was another mission of the utmost importance that needed him right away. Meaning that Ahsoka would have to go without him. She wasn't sure if she was ready to go on a mission this important without her master since it was supposed to be his, but she didn't have a choice. It was too important and couldn't wait for him or another Jedi master to get back.

~Ahsoka's POV~

Ahsoka was thinking about what the council had told her. The council had said it would only be a small group of six troopers plus herself, and they had said Anakin chose her team. She chuckled to herself. Oh no Anakin chose who was on this mission, as if the pressure of doing this without him wasn't bad enough he had chosen her team. She knew that her master would probably want to take Rex with him since they worked so well together, so she sat there trying to think of who he would have Chosen.

~Anakin's POV~

Across Coruscant in senator Amidala's apartment Anakin was worried for his Padawan, he could feel how uneasy she was as Anakin tried to tell himself that she would be fine. Come on, you're sending Rex with her plus five more trusted clones from the 501st that Rex helped pick. I'm glad I suggested Rex goes with her* He thought to himself as he tried to get some sleep.

~Next morning ~

Back at the Jedi temple Anakin was getting ready to leave when he saw Ahsoka as she walked back to her quarters. She hadn't noticed him calling out, he ran to catch up with her; she made it to her door when she finally heard her master calling. "HEY SNIPS!"

She looked in the direction the sound of his voice was coming from as he continued "You ready for your mission?"

"Ya I was just going to go over a couple of things then I'll be ready."

"I'm sorry the council is sending me on another mission, but I know you'll do great Snips, no need to worry you will be fine."

That last part he was telling himself more than he was telling Ahsoka. But it still didn't seem to ease her mind, Anakin smiled then continued "I'm sending Rex with you so if something goes wrong blame him, I do," he chuckled "Plus if you get in trouble I'll be there fast as I can," he smiled a cocky smile.

She smiled back "I thought Rex was going with you! But you're the one who has nothing to worry about Master when I'm done. I'll come save your butt, because you will be the one getting into trouble and I'll be there to bail you out again."
Anakin made a fake hurt face "Hey! Hey! No need to get snippy, we will see whose butt will need saving, and of course I'm sending Rex with you Snips," he smiled. They chatted for a little longer then parted ways, Ahsoka went into her quarters as Anakin went to the landing bay to board his ship.

~Time past~

It has been almost two days since Anakin had left and Ahsoka was now aboard a Star Destroyer heading towards an unidentified triple-ringed gas giant, where she and her team were being sent to extract some sensitive information from a hidden base. As for the main ship it would continue on towards Anakin's position, Ahsoka would be left with a small space shuttle.

Ahsoka was on the bridge as they told her they were almost at their destination, Ahsoka nodded and decided to go back to her quarters and look over the details one more time. She almost made it to the door when she heard Matchstick and Broadside walking down the hallway towards her. She didn't feel like talking to anyone, so she hurried into her quarters but didn't realize that they had seen her.

Ahsoka didn't end up looking over the mission plans; instead she just sat there thinking about what her master had said, about coming to her aid as fast as he could. She knew the other Jedi masters had their own missions so if she did need any help it would be awhile before anyone could come. She thought she could hear someone enter her quarters and say something, but she didn't really pay much attention to it, she was too busy freaking out over her mission, she didn't acknowledge them until she felt a hand on her shoulder.

She looked up to see Rex with his helmet under his arm and a hand on her shoulder giving her a concerned look. "Sorry Rex I was thinking about the mission, didn't mean to ignore you."

"That's ok commander, the transport is ready to go."

She heard something was ready but again wasn't really listening to Rex, his presents just brought another worry to her mind. What if one of the troopers got hurt, the thought of losing any of them brought a tear to her eye. Rex looked at her face to see if she even heard what he said, but when he didn't get a response and then saw what looked like a tear he was puzzled. "Are you alright commander?"

She paused slightly snapping out of her thoughts turning away from his gaze not wanting him to see her being so weak. "I'm uh… ya, ya I'm fine I'll be there in a minute," she tried to hold back her tears so they wouldn't fall before he left, but a couple fell down her cheek and Rex saw them.

~Rex POV~

Rex knelt down putting his helmet beside her then wiped her tears away with his thumb, Rex couldn't help his thoughts when he looked at Ahsoka in that moment. She looks so small and scared, nothing like the feisty girl I met all those years ago during the Battle of Christophsis, but still the same sweet girl who is concerned about losing the others.

Rex stood up pulling her up with him then pulled her close to him, wrapping his arms around her tightly. He was hoping to let her know it was ok if she needed to cry or just give her some comfort, not sure why she was crying. Ahsoka was caught but surprised, not only by Rex pulling her up but that he was hugging her, she hadn't expected Rex to pull her into a hug she ended up falling into his chest.

Rex held her for a while before speaking, still not letting her go, "It will be alright kid, whatever it is you're worried about it will be ok." He pulled back, so he was now holding her shoulders looking into her eyes as he continued. "You don't have anything to worry about, you have some of the finest troopers from the 501st with you." He gave a smirk hoping this would cheer her up or at least get a smile.

Ahsoka smiled playfully like she had a mischievous idea, she looked up at him. "So I guess that means you won't be coming?"

He looked at her with a hurt look on his face "Hey! What is that supposed to mean?"

She giggled with an even bigger smile. "You said the finest are coming with me but you're not one of the finest, you're one of the best." She whispered the last part so only she could hear than looking away playfully sulking.

Rex smiled; he was glad to see her smiling again even if it was at his expense. He pulled her chin up so she was now looking at him. "Of course I'm going even if I'm not one of the finest, I can't let you have all the fun," He playfully sulked.

Ahsoka hugged him "Thank you Rexter, you always know just what I need to hear."

Rex hugged her back tightly with a big smile "Anytime Kid, but.."

Ahsoka looked up at him "what is it?"

"The reason I was coming to get you is that the transport is ready and waiting, remember?"

"Oh right, I'll be right there."

He nodded as he picked up his helmet and walked out of her quarters towards the hanger bay, Ahsoka tried to clear her head. Part of her didn't want the finest or the best to come with her, she had a bad feeling and couldn't bear the thought of any of her friends dying. She shook head trying to get rid of the thought her team would be fine and she would make sure of it, she quickly grabbed her lightsabers then followed after him.
