Chapter 2
Crash Landing
~Hawk POV~
Once Ahsoka reached the hanger bay, and jumped into the ship Rex gave the all clear for us to go. As we headed towards the planet Hawk noticed that the planet has three sets of planetary rings and a thick, rolling atmosphere which he worried about. Venturing closer to the planet they had some electronic interference from the planet's magnetic fields, the ship shook a little but they kept going. They ran into something Hawk could only describe as a thick fog, once they entered it though he started to lose control of the ship.
Something was then thrown into one of the engines and it blew, a red light came flashing on and they started spiraling out of control. Hawk tried getting a signal out to their cruiser before it left but there was no response. He figured there was too much interference and all of their communications would be useless. Once they broke through the other side of the thick outer atmosphere Hawk could see, and was glad it only appeared to have a thick fog atmosphere.
~Rex POV~
Hawk's voice came screaming through the ship ::WE ARE GOING DOWN!::
We could feel the ship swaying and spinning "Brace yourselves!"
Everybody quickly grabbed on to something, well Hawk tried to level the ship. Ahsoka stretched out an arm to help stabilize the ship, and with Ahsoka's help they managed to level out before hitting the ground. The hard impact still sent everyone flying and with Ahsoka only holding on with one hand she was thrown farther. When the ship finally came to a stop Rex got up with a grunt as he looked around "Injury Report," He coughed out.
"Kix here, I'm okay."
"Dogma here, my arm hurts to move but I'll live."
"Echo here," he starts coughing "I'm okay."
"Fives here," he said barely a whisper, Dogma was the only one to hear him as he continued coughing "It's hard to breath, I can't move."
Fives, Hawk, Commander injury report!" he said louder.
"Fives is over here he's stuck, conscious but having a hard time breathing, Hawk is unconscious but I don't see the commander," Dogma replied for his brothers.
"COMMANDER!" Rex yelled, knowing she wasn't wearing armour like the rest of them or fully holding on. As he looked around he started to get worried you could hear it in his voice, "COMMANDER!" Just then he heard something moving behind him, he turned around to see Ahsoka pushing aside some boxes, with a sigh you could see and hear his relief.
"I'm alright," [coughing] she rested a hand on the side of the ship, because for her they were still moving.
Rex went towards her, seeing that she was leaning against the ship "Commander, you sure you're alright?"
She nodded "yeah just a hard landing that's all."
Rex looked at her unconvinced but nodded to her. I'll get Kix to have a look at her just in case, he thought to himself and went to help his trapped brother. Before anyone opened the door Echo checked to see if the air was breathable luckily it was, and the planet only appeared to be a gas plant. The inner layer was breathable; it was just the outer layer that would cause problems.
~No one~
When Ahsoka noticed Rex was no longer paying attention to her she held onto her montral, cause even though she told Rex she was alright her head hurt, and she could still hear the sound of their ship ripping the earth apart causing a painful ringing in her ears. Once she focused she saw Kix was helping Hawk out of the cockpit, but Rex and Dogma were having trouble getting Fives out who was trapped under a part of the ship.
Ahsoka, full of adrenaline, ignored the pain and ringing she heard so she could help, using the force she pushed back the metal that trapped Fives. Rex and Dogma pulled Fives out who had passed out from lack of air, going to either side of him Rex and Dogma were supporting the weight between them. They made their way over to where Kix was checking on Hawk.
After Ahsoka helped get Fives out she left the ship, sitting down under the shade of a giant mushroom tree as she held her head to get the ringing under control. Echo had stayed in the transport looking for any supplies that they could save or might need later putting it in their bags. As Rex was setting Fives down he heard a sound coming from behind him where the ship was, It's going to blow.
"Everyone take cover!" He looked at his brothers but didn't see the Ahsoka or Echo, he turned around to see Echo still in the ship. "ECHO! get out of there!"
~Ahsoka POV~
Ahsoka was surprised when she heard Rex yelling, opening her eyes she sees him running towards the transport throwing his arms in the air waving for someone to move. She looked towards the ship to see Echo inside, not knowing why he needed to get out, just that he did. She quickly got up dashing towards the transport that luckily wasn't far from where she was.
I used the force to push Rex back which sent him flying to the ground throwing his helmet off, as Echo scrambled to get the supplies and get out I used the force to pull him and the supplies out. Once she pulled Echo out of the transport part of it exploded, throwing her off balance while Echo was midair. She ended up throwing him harder into the ground than she planned, sending the supplies hurling onto him, well throwing her on her back.
Kix and Rex ran towards them "Rex check on the Commander!" Kix ordered as he went over to Echo who was trying to catch his breath. Rex was already beside Ahsoka at that point, trying to see if she was alright. Ahsoka laid there as black dots danced across her vision, once she could see better she saw Rex leaning over her. I know he's saying something because his mouth was moving, but I couldn't hear anything, the sound of the explosion echoed in my ears.
The echoing in my ears started to fade away, then I could finally hear the familiar voice.
"Commander... Commander Tano, can you hear me?"
I focused on the concerned captain "Yes Rex I can hear you," I sat up with Rex's help, turning to look where she threw Echo, "is Echo-"
"He'll be alright thanks to you Commander, he hit the ground pretty hard and got the wind knocked out of him that's all," Kix said looking towards her, "How about you Commander how's your head?"
She was breathing rather quickly and heavily, the explosion only increasing her adrenaline, "I'll be alright Kix."
He lifted one eyebrow, looked at her bruised lettu, "That doesn't look too good, are you sure?"
~Kix POV~
Kix finished up with Echo then went over to Ahsoka, glad to see that she just had some scrapes and bruises he cleaned her up. Once he got up he motioned Rex over "I would keep an eye on her just in case, I'm not familiar with all togruta anatomy but her lettu doesn't look too good."
Rex nodded and went back towards Ahsoka, who didn't need to sense that there was something on his mind, it was written on his face.
"What's on your mind Rex?"
"Not my place to say-" he was cut off "Rex."
He looks towards her, she's not going to let this go [he sighs] "Why did you do that, I could have gotten to Echo in time, why risk your life for a clone"
~No one~
The others looked at Rex shocked at what he said, but we're all secretly thinking the same and wanted to know why. Ahsoka looked up at him before calmly answering, "Any of you would have done it for me, it only seems right that I would for any of you."
"With all due respect commander we were born to protect the Jedi and if it came to it, die to protect them. NOT let them die trying to save one of us, we are clones we are expendable."
Ahsoka frowned at the last bit Rex had said, then stood to look him in the eyes. "I DON'T THINK SO." she firmly said spacing each word out, the others all looked at her with wide eyes as she continued.
"None of you, not a single one of you is expendable, not to each other and not to me." She looked around at the rest of the troops "You are all important and if it came to it, I would gladly give my life to save any of you. As I know you would for me, not out of duty but because we are family." She turned back to Rex. "So don't you dare say you're expendable, you matter just as much as anyone else here that includes me."
No one knew what to say, no Jedi had ever told them something like that with such force behind their words. The men couldn't help but be at a loss for words as Ahsoka sat back down on a nearby rock, everyone was silent until Rex looked to the sky and changed the subject. "Um Commander we.. we should keep moving as soon as possible, we need to find a safe place to camp still," she nodded as he helped her up.
"Thanks Rex," She smiled.
"Sure thing commander," He grabbed his shoulder after helping her up, adjusting his armor.
"Did something happen to your shoulder?"
"It's nothing, just a little sore from the crash."
She stopped him by grabbing his shoulder, she felt how hot it was as he stiffened "Rex that's not nothing."
"It's nothing to worry about, I just landed on it funny during the crash."
"Well at least let Kix take a look."
"Commander that's not-" She cut him off before he could finish.
"Rex what did I just tell you," she held his shoulder, "just think of it as putting my mind at ease."
Rex sighed giving in, Ahsoka smiled "Kix I need you."
Kix came over quickly "Commander? Are you okay?"
"Yes Kix I'm fine, I need you to take a look at Rex's shoulder."
"Sure thing," he looked towards Rex. "Captain?"
Rex didn't get a chance to say anything before Ahsoka started talking, "He said he landed on it during the crash." gesturing to his shoulder "I'm just wondering if you could make sure he was ok?"
He nodded "this way Captain."
~Rex POV~
Rex did as he was told, as he knew there wasn't anything to worry about, but also knew Ahsoka would have continued bugging him about it until he saw Kix. Once Kix finished examining Rex, he let Ahsoka know that Rex was indeed alright, his shoulder would just be a little sore that's all.
Rex could see how low the sun was getting, and knew they needed to find a place to camp. They crashed a way's away from where they were supposed to be, and with the injured they would be even slower, so they needed to start moving. "All right men grab all the supplies you can carry, we need to move and make camp before nightfall."
Everyone grabbed a bag, some carried another in their arms. Kix with the help of Echo, carried Hawk who was still unconscious. Ahsoka was helping Fives who could kind of walk, she was worried about both men but Kix assured her they would be alright. As they were walking Rex noticed Ahsoka was walking a lot slower than the others, he wondered if she was hurt more than she was letting on.
"Echo, Dogma go on ahead and see if you can find a place we can set up for the night," he ordered.
"Yes sir." They replied as they walked ahead, Echo left Kix to support Hawk. Rex slowed down so that he was now walking beside Ahsoka, who looked exhausted and was sweating, "Hey kid?-"
"I'm fine, Rex just a little tired that's all," She half smiled. She didn't need to hear what he was going to say, she already knew. She could hear how worried he was, NO she could feel it coming off him like a tidal wave, and she didn't want him to worry.
"You sure you don't look so good, we can stop take a break?"
"That's alright, we really need to keep moving"
"Then at least let me help with Fives" he stood in front of her not letting her pass, she saw the determination in his eyes, he wasn't going to move until she let him help.
"Alright you can help"
She let some of Fives' weight fall towards Rex as soon as his weight was no longer leaning against Ahsoka so much she felt so much lighter.
"Thank you Rex."
"Sure thing Kid."
Moments later Echo returned "We found a cave not far, looks good for the night Dogma's there now." He said as he returned to help Kix with Hawk.
"Sounds good, lead the way."
