Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter's universe (JKR does). I don't really own anyone's universe, actually... Might I have yours?
Author's Note: This is just a little drabble that I couldn't get out of my head until I wrote down. It's dedicated to my sister, because she's chased away more of my bad dreams than she's probably realized.
o.o.o.o
James always slept better when he was in the same room as one or both of his parents. He says it probably had something to do with flashing back to the days when Mummy and Daddy could fix everything. It helps to keep nightmares away, he says.
The boys just nod and agree.
Sirius never says anything. He thinks maybe James is kind of right, but he's also sure it's simpler than that. Something about subconsciously loving and trusting those people more than anyone else, feeling protected deep down inside when they're around. As if they could chase away even the worst of nightmares with just their presence.
Sirius always did sleep better when he was at school.
Lily knows Sirius's secret, but she never says anything. She thinks that both her darling men are wrong, in their different ways. Because Lily's never slept so well as she does now, when she's holding Harry.
Remus doesn't think about sleep. If he did, he would say he considers it a luxury, one he's very glad of when he gets it, which isn't often. He hasn't ever slept well, really. It's the nightmares.
Peter never sleeps anymore. He lives his nightmares, instead.
