Chapter One: An emotional time
1997 in January when Elena Petrova was sitting on a park bench, crying. Her boyfriend had just dumped her after she told him she was pregnant. The snow would have made everything look beautiful but she just had a downed look in her eyes.
A hand touching her shoulder made her turn her head and look up to see the Mikaelson brothers Elijah and Klaus who seemed to look at her curiously.
"Lovely?" Elijah asked gently and she broke down, crying and he sat beside her, allowing her to cry in his shoulder.
"He left me after I told him I was pregnant," she whispered and the brothers seemed angry. "I'm a few weeks pregnant and the werewolf just up and left me! I tried undoing his family's curse yet he just abandoned me!"
Elijah just held her as she cried, tears falling down her face and Klaus felt anger. Elena was a friend and the only doppelganger that he appreciated. He never would have abandoned a pregnant woman.
The moment that Elena had cried herself to sleep on Elijah's shoulder the man himself was sad yet happy. He had the thing he desired the most so close yet she was somewhat far from his grip.
He should have done something centuries ago but he didn't. Running a hand through her hair he smiled sadly and nuzzled her cheek lovingly.
Five months into Elena's pregnancy the entire Mikaelson clan had taken care of the pregnant vampire witch to the point that they kept planning dates for Elijah and Elena to go on until he admitted it to her that he loved her.
The day that she was five months Elijah had made sure that Sage who had felt horrid for the youngish hybrid was pampering Elena. He had a surprise planned and wanted it to go off without a hitch. The moment that Sage had been told what happened to Elena and the redheaded female vampire wanted to kill the insolent wolf mongrel only for Klaus and Elijah to stop her.
"My Elena needs peace and at the moment you are the closest thing to that," Elijah told his big brother's fiancée who was one of the first ever vampires created. "I need you to take care of her while Niklaus and I talk with the wolves about what he did."
"Elijah?" Sage asked worriedly and he smiled. "Stay safe as Finn would hate it."
Later that night Elijah had Elena in his arms, his hands covering hers as they rested on her bump when he whispered, "marry me?"
Elena smiled as she looked up at him.
"I will."
Thirteen years later as Hayley Mikaelson walked into her family's mansion in Mystic Falls, she was seriously angry. She hated the school here in town and as she looked at the door to the living room and the dining room she saw her mother walking out with her father (well-he is the only father figure in her life anyway) behind her.
"Momma I hate the school here," Hayley told her and her mother sighed as she wiped her hands on the apron wrapped around her waist. "The students are complete horrid people!"
Elena Petrova Mikaelson sighed at her daughter's words. She turned to her husband who was sighing.
"Hayley honey," Elijah Mikaelson began. "I know that you hate it here-so does your mother-but we cannot leave until the school is out for the summer." Hayley pouted and Elijah shook his head. "Even with a pout that is the rule."
"Fine," Hayley groaned. "Until the school year is over I won't complain about the school system here."
Elijah smiled and kissed her forehead.
"Thank you and tonight your mother and I have a date night so you need to be good for your aunts and uncles," she nodded as he ran a hand through her dark brown ringlets. "I love you to bits my little star."
Eighteen year old Kayla Gilbert was pissed off as she caught her boyfriend Damon Salvatore-well, now her ex boyfriend-with a busty brunette sorority girl just rolling around all over the house.
She had thrown a bottle of bourbon at his head as she screamed at him that they were over before she headed off to the Grill where she was drinking her sorrows away.
Licking her lips, she felt nothing but disappointment in her love life. To her it wasn't fair that all the doppelgangers that she knew-Katherine and Elena respectively-had better love lives.
Elena was happily married with a daughter and her husband adored her (she had felt mild jealousy until she saw the two of them acting like an old married couple who were still in love) while Katherine had Klaus.
She didn't stop drinking and when a masculine hand touched hers, she shook it off.
"My now ex boyfriend prefers busty sorority girls," she snapped as she kept drinking. "Apparently this body," she motioned towards her body, "can't satisfy anyone."
"I'm pretty sure that you can satisfy anyone," the voice was thick and definitely British. "Why don't we go to my place and talk?"
"Sure," Kayla hiccupped with a glazed look in her eyes. "Let's go to your place and talk."
Elena was smiling at her husband who gave her a cup of ice cream as she gave him an ice cream sundae.
"I was thinking…" Elena mused as she placed herself against his side the moment he wrapped an arm around her waist, "maybe we can move to New Orleans? I'm not fond of this town and I despise many of the people here." He grinned and leaned down to kiss her forehead. She smiled and closed her eyes at the lingering sensation of his lips on her forehead.
"We can do whatever you want my love," he whispered as he nuzzled her cheek and she smiled. "Hopefully the school system in New Orleans would be better."
She laughed and as she gave him a bite of her ice cream, she was smiling with glowing eyes.
"I love you," she said warmly and honestly. "I love you to the very depth of my heart and soul."
As Kayla's back hit the mattress and her nimble fingers ripped off his shirt, Klaus grinned as his eyes were glazed yet lustful as the newest wolf doppelganger was writhing beneath him in complete passion because of him.
His fangs sunk into her throat and she moaned loudly, her back arched from his touch.
"More," she moaned out. "Please! More!"
Who was he to deny her anything at the moment?
By the next morning Hayley was yawning as she was walking downstairs, her lips pulled into a small smile when she stopped and blinked her brownish amber eyes at Kayla Gilbert who was stumbling as she was getting her jacket on while trying to hide her ripped shirt.
"What in the world?" The thirteen year old girl asked and a cough caused her to turn to see her father behind her. "What was going on dad?"
Elijah shrugged though he had a very good idea…especially as he sniffed Niklaus' scent over her.
"Why don't you go downstairs and I'll make you breakfast okay?" He suggested. "I need to talk to your uncle." She nodded and as she walked down the stairs without stumbling or fumbling (his little angel was a bit klutzy as her mother had been when she was human) he grinned before walking behind her to find Niklaus in his room, slipping on his pants. "So you were with Kayla?" He drawled and Klaus turned to look at him.
"Are you jealous or worried about my intentions with her brother?" He asked as he grabbed a shirt and slid it on.
"I'm merely worried about what the pesky brothers would say to her," he amended. "She is somewhat related to my wife so I am worried." It was true that Kayla was somewhat related to Elena through Katherine and the crueler doppelganger's daughter Nadia so to him, she was family. "If you are just using her then stop. Please."
Klaus sighed.
"Last night we were both drunk and I don't think that anything can happen between us," Klaus said. "She caught the elder Salvatore with a busty brunette while I caught Katerina with the younger brother." Elijah sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"Do not tell Elena what you and Kayla did," he whispered. "Please. She's in a happy mood at the thought of leaving this town once Hayley's school year is done with."
Klaus smirked at his brother.
"How happy is your wife?" He asked and Elijah flashed him a grin. "That happy?"
"Very happy and sated," he explained and left to find his daughter with Kol and Rebekah in the kitchen. "Do you want me to make you breakfast?" He asked her and she nodded as she looked at him.
"Can you make those chocolate chip muffins?" She asked and he nodded with a huge grin.
"Okay," he said and turned to his siblings. "Do you want some muffins?" They nodded.
Kayla had showered and gotten dressed when she got home from her night with the Original Hybrid himself.
She was scrubbing herself real good to try and get his scent off her when she sighed, shutting the water off.
Upon leaving the bathroom she had a towel wrapped around her when the man she had been with was lounging on her bed, his eyes going over her body with a heated glance.
"What do you want Klaus?" She asked and he smirked.
"You're a Crescent like Hayley," he told her. "I know where they are located at the moment."
She felt herself gulp thickly as she leaned against the door.
"That's impossible," she whispered. "Isobel told me that John's my father." He snorted.
"I have a feeling she lied to you," he said lightly. "Love? If you are a Crescent then the best way to figure it out is to research it though Elena can tell you where they're located and Hayley is a Crescent due to her birth father."
She didn't say anything and as he left, she felt herself fall to her knees.
Was her entire life a lie?
The moment that Kayla was in her classroom Stefan grabbed her arm, causing her to grab his hand and break it.
"I told you that I don't want to talk to you and your horny asshole brother," she snarled. "So leave me alone."
"You slept with Klaus?" He asked in a whispered hiss and she slapped him.
"You downgraded to Katherine," she sneered and walked away only for Bonnie to mutter something, causing Kayla to have an aneurism. "Damn it Bonnie stop!"
"I'd stop if I were you," Bonnie turned to see Rebekah. "Unless you want me to kill you? Or Caroline as she's as useless as Stefan."
"She was with your brother," Bonnie sneered only to gasp as Rebekah grabbed Caroline by the throat and snapped her neck. "What is wrong with you Mikaelsons?"
"You went after one of our own…now we go after you and yours." Matt looked at his ex girlfriend's slightly dead body in horror as his other ex girlfriend paled dramatically at her words. "Though is Kayla's love and sex life any business of yours? If she slept with any of my single brothers let her as none of you can possibly satisfy her needs." The subtle jab at the men in the area around her was satisfying to the blonde original sister.
"It's not their business if I sleep with Klaus or whoever," Kayla snapped angrily. "Once you catch your boyfriend with a busty brunette sorority girl come talk to me about how you think I should have done instead of drinking my sorrows away and falling into Klaus' bed."
It seemed as though Kayla's friends were slowly dismantling their friendship with the brunette and she didn't mind. They didn't go through what she did (Caroline could say that what happened between her and Damon was compulsion and whatnot but she wouldn't understand Kayla's mind).
It also didn't help that Caroline had nearly started a smear campaign against Kayla only for Rebekah to ask the blonde baby vampire in a loud voice, "didn't you try hitting on my older married brothers or ask them if they were into threesomes? One of my brothers has a thirteen year old daughter at that."
Caroline was laughed at to the point that the blonde couldn't show her face in any of her clubs.
Kayla didn't care as she was outside of the Mikaelsons mansion as she wanted to talk to Elena about her birthmark. The moment that the older brunette opened the door she smiled.
"I was wondering who was knocking on the door," Elena said warmly. "Nik is in his art studio, Kol is preparing the house in New Orleans and Finn is celebrating his anniversary with Sage in Colombia at the moment." Kayla cocked her head. "Elijah is in his office if you were wondering where he was and I was preparing some snacks for when Hayley comes home."
"It's my birthmark," Kayla said as she was bouncing on the tips of her toes. "I was…Klaus saw it and said it was a Crescent mark." Elena blinked and cocked her head to the side. "Do you know where they are?"
"The pack is located in New Orleans," she answered before making a motion for her to come inside. "I'm trying a new recipe and I was wanting your opinion on it."
Kayla followed her inside and smiled as she saw the kitchen was filled with different berries as well as cutting boards, rolling pins and so many other things indicative of baking scattered about.
"What is the new recipe?" Kayla asked and Elena smiled.
"Triple berry scone," she said. "My darling Elijah found the recipe and thought it would be something for everyone to try and I decided my best at making it." The five hundred year old hybrid couldn't stop smiling at the thought of Elijah. "I was hoping that you would be the first to try a triple berry scone."
"I'm allergic to strawberries," Kayla apologized and Elena giggled. "What is it?"
"Strawberry isn't one of the berries as Hayley hates them," the woman answered. "I'm using raspberries, blueberries and blackberries."
Elijah was smiling as he saw his wife flutter about the kitchen with bits of flour on her cheeks as the new doppelganger was scarfing down a scone. His eyes were trailed on his wife's form as she was his mate and he wanted her happy.
Stepping into the room, she turned to look at him with a grin while Kayla was eating another scone.
"She loves the recipe," Elena said as she kissed him. "I think I have enough for everyone…should I make more?" He pulled her into his arms and nuzzled the top of her head.
"I believe that the two platters are enough my lovely snowflake," he said happily. "So what is going on?" He looked between them curiously.
"I was hoping to get information on my birthmark," Kayla managed to get out after a swallow. "Klaus said when he noticed it that it was a Crescent mark." Elena looked at her husband who seemed deep in thought. "I want to know if there are any Crescent wolves alive and where they're located."
"I told her that the pack is located in New Orleans in Louisiana," Elena said. "I don't know if there are others that are alive besides Hayley." She eyed her husband who shrugged. "That's all I can tell you."
One month later as Kayla found herself in a bar in New Orleans called Rousseau's she was running her finger around the rim of a glass filled with water. She had done a deep dive and did discover that John wasn't her birth father while Isobel's other boyfriend-a Labonair wolf who was named Nico-was in the wind.
"So what brings you here?" Kayla looked at the bartender-Cami O'Connell-with a suspicious glance.
"A witch named Jane-Anne said that she had information on my biological father," Kayla said honestly. "I don't know where she is. I was told to meet her here."
Cami gave her a fake smile.
"She works here as a cook."
The moment that Elijah was walking down the streets of Bourbon Street with his arms filled with pizzas and chocolate pies (his beautiful wife was pregnant at the moment and he was fulfilling a food run for her and Hayley) when a witch nearly stopped him only for him to side step her.
"I'm quite busy as I'm needed to get my wife and daughter food," he told her as he made his way to his parked car. The witch was still following him, anger and sadness in her eyes. "You want to help me drop off the food?"
"I'll take care of this brother," Elijah smiled at Finn who appeared with Sage. "You go home to your wife and daughter."
Elijah nodded.
"They wanted pizza and chocolate pie so I'm delivering on that promise," Elijah said. "I'm not about to start breaking my promises to them."
Sage grinned and as Elijah got in the car and drove off, Finn turned to the witch curiously.
"What is it that you need?" He asked her.
"Come with me as I'm in desperate need of your help."
Finn, Sage and Klaus were staring at Sophie as well as the witches surrounding Kayla Gilbert.
"What does she have to do with anything?" Sage asked as she saw Kayla seemed to be torn between killing the witches and just getting out of there somehow.
"Congrats Klaus I'm pregnant from our drunk night," Kayla told him. "A month already and these damnable witches have held me hostage for three weeks so I'm nearly two months." She glared at them. "Given nothing but scraps of food and barely enough water they want us to die."
Finn held Klaus and Sage back though he was angry himself.
"What do you want?" Klaus snarled and as Sophie regarded them with a jaded look, she sighed.
"We want you to get rid of Marcel or Kayla and your babies will die."
Kayla grabbed a rock that was by her foot and before anyone could stop her, she smashed it into the head of a witch near her, watching her fall down before she screamed as a stabbing pain hit her side.
Warm hands went over her and as she looked up, she saw Klaus there who was staring at her in curiosity as well as wonder, which he hid masterfully.
"I'll take you home," he whispered. "Come on love."
"Mystic Falls isn't home anymore," she whispered to him. "New Orleans is."
Elijah was grinning as he had his sleeping wife curled into his right side and his sleeping daughter curled into his left side as they were watching a movie.
He knew that some of his siblings would find this form of domesticity boring but he found it…perfect.
The moment the door opened, Elijah turned his head to Finn entering with Sage, Klaus and Kayla who was in Klaus' arms. He placed a finger to his lips as he indicated that Elena and Hayley were sleeping.
"Nik and Kayla need to have a moment," Sage mouthed to him. "How's everyone here?"
He grinned.
"Elena's pregnancy is moving along perfectly and Hayley is ecstatic about being a big sister," he answered softly. "What's going on?"
"Kayla is carrying Klaus' child," Finn mouthed. "What are you watching?" Elijah managed to move from between his sleeping wife and daughter to talk to Finn.
"Now is not the time to ask about what is on the television," he whispered in a harsh voice. "I want to know everything! Have they been together long or was it from that night?"
As Elijah was questioning Finn and Sage about everything they knew (which wasn't much), Klaus had Kayla on a chair across from him after he healed her wounds.
"Why are you here?" He asked and she gave him a sad smile.
"I don't have a home and I wanted to know about my birth father as well as his family," she told him. "Since triggering my curse…I've wanted to know about them. Anything really." She looked him in the eye. "My friends despise me nowadays and I…I can't even look Jeremy in the eye when I told him that I didn't feel at home in that town anymore."
"Why couldn't you even look him in the eye?" He whispered.
Her smile was watery.
"My heart wasn't there and I doubt that I'll get a happy ending like the others," she shrugged while a tear fell from her eyes. "Who would want me?"
