Prompt- Watching the Jake/Rose saga unfold from Duke's eyes. Set in the Duke universe.
This one is admittedly short because there is another one that's super similiar but was specified to be a longer so that's in the works rn.
Stuck at work for the next four hours so send me more!
Warnings for this one: written on my phone, infidelity mentions
Duke knew something was wrong. He knew Rose wasn't as happy as she'd once been but he never could have imagined that she was this type of unhappy. The type of unhappy that would make her betray him.
She had already told him they were over, standing in the kitchen that they'd stayed up all night to paint lime green together. She had told him why and even though she hadn't gone into detail, Duke felt like he could see it all. Another man's hands on his wife. His wife's hands on another man.
Duke still had days where he didn't believe it. Days where the truth of the word divorce snuck up on him and surprised him. Like when he was sitting in a cafe, wondering why he was still wearing his wedding ring when he looked up and they there were, walking by, hand in hand.
Rose had taken off her wedding ring.
The other man, Jake, was making her laugh, and Duke wondered how he had been replaced so easily. If Rose still cared about him a little, at all.
They crossed the street, never having seen him, and Duke pulled off his wedding ring.
However it had happened, his wife didn't love him anymore, and he had to stop loving her.
