Prompt- jake wonders if he should have left Rose alone instead of pursuing a relationship with her. Set in the Duke universe.

Jake walked up to Rose's front door and raised his hand to knock, although he was tempted to walk right in. She'd told him to Come, after all. Duke was out of town for the weekend. Instead, he paused, hearing Rose's voice burst through her open living room doors.
"Rachelle, it's all so fucked up!"
Rose sounded like she'd been crying. Jake hopped off her porch and went around the side of her house, partly to spy on her. She was sitting at her neon green dining room table, drinking white wine straight from the bottle, her laptop open in front of her.
"I have a husband!"
"I can't tell you what to do here," Rachelle said, her voice coming from the laptop. "What do you want?"
"I want to love one person," Rose cried, slurring her words as fresh tears rolled down her cheeks. "I want to not feel this way. I want to know what the right answer is but there is no right answer. I fucked it all up!"
"Come visit me," Rachelle said. "Time away in France will do you some good."
Rose sniffled and Jake's heart sank. Had he really done this to her? Was his presence in her life destroying her? That wasn't who Jake wanted to be to Rose. He wanted to be the person who made her feel better, who lifted her higher than she'd ever been. He couldn't stand to think that he was the reason for her tears. He watched her take a long swig of wine.
"You're right. I need to see you. I need to get away."
Jake wanted to tell her he loved her, that the pain was worth it, but, how could he? It wasn't his pain. It wasn't his marriage ending. He skunk away from the window and what he'd heard, not sure if he was going to knock on her door at all.
