Continue the Rose is pregnant story from the Duke Universe please.
This is the prompt that anon is referring to, since this universe has several different canons
Warnings: infidelity mentions, pregnancy mentions, I'm on cold meds on my phone
I'm also gonna say that this drabble doesn't come right out and say the word abortion but the idea of it is discussed. A woman's right to choose is not up for a debate on this blog.
Rose flitted from one side of Jake's studio to the other, feeling like she was going to throw up. And, maybe, this time it wasn't going to be from the pregnancy. She wanted to kick the wall. She'd gone to the doctor with Rachelle just this morning. Twelve weeks. She was twelve weeks along.
Twelve weeks ago, she had been Duke's wife. Twelve weeks ago, she'd been sharing her bed with Duke every night except for those nights he had to travel to an overnight job site and she'd promptly gone to share Jake's bed with him.
Alone in Jake's apartment and waiting for his arrival, she had no idea what he'd say. She had no idea what she wanted to say and she'd taken her first pregnancy test three days ago and had promptly gone into hiding with Rachelle. Rose wasn't even sure if she wanted to keep this baby. Someday, she wanted children. But, someday wasn't now and this wasn't the circumstances she'd thought that she'd be in.
"Now what, Rose," she asked herself, like she'd been doing. Even talking it over with Rachelle hadn't given her any closure and normally all it took was her twin for Rose to see the path that she should take.
She jumped as the door opened, even though she was in Jake's apartment and she knew he was on his way home.
"Hey!" Jake greeted her enthusiastically, with a kiss that made her feel weak-kneed. "What's going on?"
Jake took one look at her face and frowned.
"Don't look at me like that," Rose whispered.
"Like what?" Jake asked. "'Cause you're also looking at me some type of way."
"We need to talk."
Jake took a step backward. "If you're going to say what I'm thinking -"
"No!" Rose shouted, because she knew what Jake was thinking. "I'm pregnant!"
She watched the colour drain from Jake's face.
"Specifically, I'm twelve weeks pregnant."
"You told Duke the truth three weeks ago," Jake said, counting off on his fingers.
"I know," Rose said, and all she felt was shame.
"We've only been an exclusive us for three weeks!" Jake sat down heavily on the couch, staring at her.
Rose just let him feel mad. She had been mad, for a while, and then there was the despair. Now, she was lost and hopeless, and she hadn't realized how much she's been counting on Jake's reaction to guide her in one direction or another.
"Did you always use protection with him?"
"I was always on birth control." Rose turned to the side, not able to look Jake in the eye as she talked about the intimate details of her marriage. "I used protection with Duke as often as I did with you."
"And were you still having sex with him?"
"He was my husband!" Rose said. "You can't judge me for that."
"I'm not trying to!" Jake exclaimed. "I just want to know if you have any idea if it's mine or his."
"I don't."
Rose sat on the couch next him, feeling relieved when he took her hand.
"Do you want to keep it?"
"I don't know yet. This isn't the way I want a child. And I don't want to raise a child with Duke, at all. And I don't want to force you into this." Rose touched Jake's arm and he turned to look at her. "You're right. Despite the history, we've really only been able to be us for three weeks. Are you ready to give that up?"
"I don't feel ready for a child," Jake admitted, "but in the end, it's not my decision. It's yours."
"What would you do if I didn't have it?"
"Support you."
"Jake, take this seriously."
"I am! That's the answer. You're my choice, Rose, my person. I support you. And if you want it, then, I'm in. That's my kid too, no matter what."
"You don't mean that. You just said you aren't ready."
"I'll get ready," Jake said and he kissed her cheek. "I will. I do want children, someday, I just don't know when someday is. If someday is now, we'll get ready, and enjoy the ride from there."
"You mean that?" Rose asked, really feeling like it was the most romantic thing anyone said to her. It was her choice and she'd be loved through it. It was breathtaking.
"As much as I mean it when I say I love you," Jake said seriously. "I'm with you. I've always got you. We're on this ride together."
And if she was on the ride with Jake, Rose knew it was a ride she didn't want to get off of.
