Can we see Rachelle learn about magic and Rose ' pay life, please? Set in the Rule universe.
I think by pay life you mean last life? And Duke Universe? Please resend if I'm guessing wrong because I know autocorrect can be a bitch and a half!
This will be set right after this prompt: Haley, Rose, Rachel, and Trixie talk about Jake and her affair, and bond together. Set in the Duke universe.
Also my fiance is in the hospital and I'm trying to stay distracted. I know it's late but if anyone wants to send more prompts in
Warnings: swears, alcohol, infidelity mentions, written on my phone
"You are shitting me."
Rose blinked, drunk and startled, as Rachelle slammed her hand down on the table that they, Trixie, and Haley were sitting around. Rachelle was usually the calm one, the sweet one. She wasn't the one who swore and gulped at a cheap beer.
"Rose, what the hell? What in the cult is this?"
"Cult?" Trixie repeated while Haley just laughed.
"We've spent our whole lives together," Rachelle said, ignoring the sounds of Trixie, Haley, and the party at large as the turned and took Rose's hands in her own. "That didn't happen."
Rachelle meant for it to come out soft and understanding but that wasn't how Rose heard it. She pulled her hands out of Rachelle's, probably the first time she had ever done so, and shook her head. This doubt and this denial were the reason that Rose hadn't told her; this was why Rose had decided this was the one secret that Rose would keep.
"It did," Rose said. "I know it's hard to understand but he and I … We're built different."
Rachelle snorted and Rose could tell that her twin was drinker than she was.
"Out of magic?" Rachelle scoffed. "It's bullshit."
"It sounds that way. I get it. If I didn't have the memories, I would be on your side." Rose stroked her dragon birthmark without realizing it. "I didn't know how to tell you. I didn't even know what to think myself. When I first saw him again, I went crazy. I couldn't sleep or eat. I climbed the walls. Duke probably thought about committing me."
Rose grimaced at the mention of her ex.
"He would have been wrong too because it's all real," Rose finished. "There are dragons and dragon hunters and magic and a world that we're a part of."
Rachelle squinted at Rose and then turned on Haley.
"Are you a dragon too?" she was drunk and loud and if it wasn't a party that had old school hip hop blaring and people yelling to have a casual conversation, the whole apartment would have heard it.
Haley put her hand on the table and transformed it into a dragon claw all the way up to her elbow.
Rachelle screamed and knocked over her chair, fleeing back to the kitchen.
"Sorry," Rose said to Trixie and Haley, although she wasn't sure why. They owed her the apology. This wasn't how Rachelle should have found out, if she ever did. "I should go alone."
Rose found Rachelle in the kitchen, double fisting a vodka soda and a bad beer. Under any other circumstance, Rose would have laughed and snapped a picture. Rachelle had become such a wine and alcohol snob since moving to France that her normal self would have laughed too. But it wasn't normal.
"I don't understand," Rachelle said, staring at Rose. "How? Who? Why? I - magic!"
"Magic," Rose said. She guided the drinks out of her sister's hand and then they stood, hip to hop, leaning against the counter. "He saved me. We loved each other in a childish way and he saved me in a way that's adult sacrifice. There's a lot in that summary that Haley and Trixie didn't tell you and I'll tell you when you're sober but he is him and I am me. We belong together."
"What about Duke?" Rachelle asked. "If it was always supposed to be Jake, why did you get married?"
"Because I thought I was supposed to be with Duke!" Rose exclaimed. "I'm not the only person in this world to get married once and find out it was wrong and try again. There's nothing wrong with Duke but he's not the one for me. And I thought the one was stupid, I thought the one was someone you made, until I saw Jake again. He had pieces of me I didn't know I was missing and we fit together like a whole. He is my why, Rach. Any question I've ever asked, he's the answer."
Rachelle blearily squinted around and Rose wondered how much she understood.
Rose grabbed the vodka soda Rose had stolen from her. "You're going to have to explain this all again in the morning."
Rose picked up the cheap beer. "I know. I promise I will."
And they cheersed.
