Hello, My readers! Welcome to my second installment of the Devil's Country Heart. I am still in the process of fixing up the first installment, so please, if you haven't read the first one, do so before jumping into this story. So far I have updated chapter's 1- 10 done now that I got my spell checker working finally since it wasn't before, so I can go fix all my spelling errors.
I am not the best at writing I'm also not the worst.
this story is based off of the mythology surrounding Lucifer and moon goddess Diana, with elements of Selene and Endymion mythology and bits of references in between. I'm not sure if I will ever be making any second thoughts rewriting this installment, but I am taking my time working this in with season 5 part 1 storyline.
to avoid confusing myself I'm not doing the whole " 'Lucifer' said to Selene " kind of move, so instead I'm using Michael's name, especially to avoid confusions with the Hell scene with the real Lucifer. I can't wait for part 2 but I got things to keep me busy.
I have also found a perfect picture of what Selene looks like and this happens to be my favorite hair color on Anna Kendrick. This cover picture for this story is the reason I pick her to be Selene and what i envisioned her to look like. Imagine being looked at with silver glowing eyes.
I do not own any of the main cast of Lucifer and music, just my own characters
(Selene's POV Diary thoughts)
*2 days since Lucifer left for hell*
Dear diary,
It's been a rough time for me since the whole demon invasion. My heart is still aching over that moment Lucifer and I had when everything was good again. Thank god people believed the cover story about the mass amount of dead bodies Dromos procured, hopefully we will never have to go through that again. Lucifer's words still rang though my head as if he was still standing before me, then I saw them, for the very first time I saw Lucifer's angelic wings and touched them. The sight of them made my heart swell with amazement, but in that moment was also devastating as I watched him fly back to Hell.
I was stuck staying with Amenadiel and Linda after I left Lucifer's, I wish I was surrounded by all my girl friends, but I didn't mind I got to play nanny to little Charlie. With Lucifer gone, I'm gonna have to pull his share of time with our nephew. It's not fair that Lucifer had to go back, but... he is the king after all, I just wish I could see him again.
I had to call in back up to help me run both my bar and Lux, I was feeling very low doing so but I got them a place to stay.
*2 months later*
Dear Diary,
It's been 2 months and part of me has given up hope of Lucifer coming back, He never did say he was, or wasn't going to. Ya know, just when part of me that I lost when my mom died felt reborn, not exactly sure what part of me that is, but when Lucifer walked into my life, I was feeling complete...now I don't.
I also decided couldn't stick around I decided to go on a road trip. I had to get away from LA for a while, I made my last stop of my road trip to my Family ranch and farm
When I got back to LA after spending time in my hometown, I jumped right back into being a performer. Big Mistake I made. 1 month after getting back into working I ended needing to get vocal cord surgery, along with tonsil removal. It sucks not to be able to talk, but my friends helped me out and hooked me up with a voice amplifier via hooked by Bluetooth to my phone to talk.
It's weird to sound like I phone's suri, I don't have to like it, since it is only temporary either way until my voice has healed. As long as I can communicate then I'll be happy to never use my voice, Lucky for me surgery was successful and the nodes didn't do too much damage that I can't sing as well as I use too. It's just gonna take some time to recover.
In the mean time of working Maze and I kinda have been bonding. Maze is taking it hard without Lucifer, she's still pissed he left for Hell. Can't say I'm not the same way so we have been each other's shoulder to lean on.
It wasn't long after I had surgery that Jack had fallen ill, I knew it was a matter of time, I have had him since I was little, we both grew up together. Nilla was fine she is actually younger then Jack, I had her checked out by the vet. After a week of antibiotics Jack passed away in his stall. I was with him when he took his last breath, and I was heartbroken.
First I lost my Mom by car accident, I've lost Lucifer, we never had a chance to really try and have a real relationship because he had to go back to Hell. Now I've lost Jack, and that kind of loss has hit me pretty hard.
So... what's next for me?

Hell
Lucifer was walking though all of Hell, taking the time to visit those he like to torture personally. The demons have got back in line since his return, It made him uncomfortable and impossible for him to get over Selene. Her face pops up in alot of new prisoner's Hell loops, he can't help but stare, even if a demon was in the form of Selene he knew she wasn't really here in Hell.
The more of the hell loop he saw, judging by the looks of the damned soul's memories he couldn't help but noticed how she was around the dead man, He watched the interaction happen between them. It all seemed normal but something about her was not right as he watched, he paid more attention to Selene then the person to be tortured.
Soon as Lucifer noticed the change that has been done to the bar, strung up lightbulbs, a new stage even new tables and seats. One thing he noticed off the bat Selene wasn't performing at all, it puzzled him, then he sat at the bar and listened to the exchange of the poor fool attempting to flirt with Selene. "I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not on the market anymore, nor will I ever be. " the tone sounded sad, hurt. Lucifer realized this had to be Selene after he had left for Hell.
Guilt flowed though him, he loved her, she loved him, the painful reminder how he had hurt her not once, but twice now. First, by using her for his selfish pride, and then just leaving her at his penthouse while he went back to hell. His wings tingled with the memory of her gentle touch when he showed her his wings. The fascination in her eyes and pain mixed in having to let him go, He decided to look away and take his leave, and one of the demons followed him out.
"Lord Lucifer." said the demon leaving the hell loop with Lucifer, "What is it Belios?" He said stopping in his tracks. "Forgive me for asking, but you seem to stare at that girl alot that has been coming up in hell loops. Who is she?" Belios asked curious. Lucifer let out a long sigh, "Someone I left behind on earth a long time ago, well, for me anyway." The demon was a tad nervous to speak to the king since Hell has been put back in order, "What was she like?" Belios tensed at the question he asked Lucifer.
"She was a amazing mortal I happen to have met on my vacation to Earth, and once enjoyed being around then, had to leave behind." Belios was hesitant to ask further about her. "W-What's her name?" Lucifer started walking not wanting to speak of her much more, "It doesn't matter I'm here now to do my job." His voice sounded cold and unfeeling even if it wasn't how he felt Belios understood and went back to work, leaving Lucifer to do his duty.
Lucifer wasn't even sure how long time has passed on earth. the dreaded feeling of when he can finally get out of hell and back on earth would devastate him if he found out Selene was no longer among the living, but up in the Silver City. He set off to his secret storage room, where everything he had collected on his many trips, and added some new things to the collection.
Lucifer was looking at the picture of Selene he had printed out while on earth, tucked in his inner pocket just to keep a picture of her close to his heart, and found the perfect empty picture frame he had collected over his visits. Suddenly a ring he had started to glow and float until there was a shape of someone familiar appeared to him.
The figure was a shape of a beautiful young woman with rupunzle long white hair, silvery grey eyes, grey sweetheart halter two tiered handkerchief skirt dress, white iridescent wings. Lucifer looked at her completely surprised that she was here before him in Hell, far as he knew she was long gone eons ago,"A-Asariel?" he said breathlessly surprised.
"Hello, Samael." She smiled at him, "It can't be... you're dead." Lucifer said walking up to her after putting Selene's photo down." Before the rebellion happened, I split a part of me from my soul to this ring and gave it to you so part of me stayed safe, I am nothing mere more of a illusion of who I once was."
Lucifer eyes narrowed, "Why?" he couldn't believe it but then, he recalled what Lilith had done Asariel looked down, " So incase something bad happened you could keep my memories and heart safe. Surely when I handed you the ring you could tell I had gone cold hearted." Lucifer did remember that, "So I'll ask again. Why?"
She sighed, "I gave up my soul to your father for a plan he had to put in action when he was ready." Lucifer grew suspicious, "What plan?" she shook her head at him, "I can't tell you even if I knew."
Earth, Los Angles
Selene was having a girls day with her cousins, they been doing what they can to keep her happy since Jack died, and with Selene being unable to speak she had learned speed texting to talk with the faux Bluetooth capable voice box to be able to speak for her while healing. Her diet had to be soft or blended foods and smoothies in order for her to eat though the recovery as it hurt to swallow.
"Selene normally we never make things all about you, but we will today, because you need it and we all want you back to yourself." Dawn said as Jen and the rest nodded. Selene couldn't denie it, she was burnt out after being sober the last 2 months, gone for one, came back and had to cremate Jack, and keeping her bar and Lux's books an expenses in order, as well as paying the employees.
Selene sighed as she started texting as it transferred to her faux voice box, "Thanks guys I know I've been so, lonely since Lucifer has left the city, I am glad I'm letting you girl's voices shine. I want out of the spot light anyway and I've been doing alot of thinking on my road trip." Selene gestured as she didn't have to move her mouth but show some emotion as her voice box did all the work with her phones help.
She continued with a sigh and texted ," I was thinking of maybe moving back home for the rest of the farming season, and come back for winter season. It's a up in the air option, so just something I thought about. There's no official decision. "We won't stop you. You have been though alot this past year, you need to take care of yourself."
Selene kept typing, "I know I know, but I don't want to leave y'all hanging." Rosie put a hand on Selene's shoulder, "Don't worry about us Sel, you brought us out here to help you, and helping you is what were going to do. We all are family, even if not by blood, we're still family, One Note Stand forever."
Selene was still feeling bad but once the girls got to the mall they looked around for costume ideas for performing in, they bickered and fought in front of Selene when they all tried on the same outfit over what they liked and didn't like. Like always Selene ended up the mediator and just had them buy everything they picked out that they could still make a outfit out of it.
Then after buying clothes they promised to compromise the rest of the morning shopping trip, then had her home by 12:30 so they all could get some rest before working. They kept her company until they left about quarter to enjoyed the peace and quiet she made herself a ramen noodle lunch, laid back on her couch to eat and enjoy a movie.
A hour into the movie the empty bowl with chopsticks sat on the glass pallet homemade coffee table next to her hot tea, and cellphone Selene had dozed out. She jolted when there was a sudden knock on the door, she couldn't speak to give them permission to enter, so she grabbed her cellphone and walked over to the door prepping what she was going to say once she opened it.
Once she opened that door wondering who could it be, once she had a full view she couldn't believe her eyes. Standing before her was Lucifer she looked at him like deer in headlights. "Hello, darling." Michael spoke as Selene blinked and rubbed her eyes hoping they weren't playing tricks. She so badly wanted to say his name, but couldn't risk it just yet so Selene wrapped her arms around him and kissed him.
Michael was taken by surprise an tried to not let his cover slip by not accepting her kiss and embraced her, Selene felt something was off and tried to ignore it as she was just too happy to have Lucifer back. She broke the kiss and just took in his face, his soften dark chocolate eyes she remembered, feeling him letting her go.
She held up her phone and started typing," Is everything alright? Why are you here? Not that I'm not happy to see you it's just you seem different." Michael was confused on how Selene wasn't moving her lips and what was around her neck talking for her, but had to come up with a answer for her.
"While I may have been gone a few months, it's been thousands of years and all I thought about was seeing you." He said softly hoping to fool his brother's little girlfriend, " Tell me, what on earth is this bloody thing around your neck, and why are you not speaking?" he asked her as Selene frowned and began to type again, "I had surgery done on my vocal cords recently, I'm not allowed to use my voice for some time Doctor's orders." her faux voice said looking at him.
"So in order to communicate I got a voice box that connects to my phone so I can still talk though texting to this voice box," she gestured to her voice box collar then continued to type, " You caught me at a good time I was just relaxing from a shopping trip, I called in some friends to help me run Lux while you were gone. They were in need of a job so I flew them out here to help." She forgot to invite him in as she quickly typed, "Please, come in make yourself at home like you normally do, and I will get us a drink." she let him on in as Michael accepted.
Selene closed the door and made her way to her kitchen to grab two glasses and her big half full bottle of Jack she hasn't touched in 2 months and poured him a drink as well as herself since alcohol is good disinfectant for her healing throat and she felt like she needed it after the surprise he made. She couldn't put her finger on it but something just didn't seem right.
(Selene's POV thoughts)
Why do I feel like this? I should be happy, over joyed even, but he doesn't seem right I don't know why? Or do I?
You know what I shouldn't over think things like he said it's been thousands of years for him, time is different in hell then here, so...it makes sense he's a bit off, perhaps he just needs time to re adjust to his life here on earth.
Maybe once he feels comfortable after some time to settle in we can figure out where we stand if were gonna be together again like we were before, or am I gonna loose him forever.
*Realizes something mid pour of drink*
Hold up! If he's up here, then who's watching over Hell!?
(Selene POV thoughts end)
Selene walked back over to Lucifer with a drink in hand and handed it to him, "Thank you." He took a sip, "So tell me, what have you been up to?" Michael asked as Selene sat her drink down and started typing, "Well, Since you left, I went on a road trip for a month. I had alot to think about, and I did my last stop back home, came back with lots of my family's alcohol, I had a trunk full." Selene then frowned and looked quite depressed. Michael took noticed to the change of expression, "What's wrong?" he asked concerned as Selene shook her head and stated typing, "I'm... not ready to talk about that just yet."
"Well chin up Selene, sadness doesn't suit you. You're brighter when you smile" She smiled at him and continued to type, "Thanks, Lucifer, I have also been spending time with helping Amenadiel and Linda with our nephew Charlie since I've been back, he got big the last time you saw him. Not big big but he grew 4 inches since the day he was born." she stopped to take a drink before continuing to type.
"No signs of power's just yet, though I suppose it's a good thing right now, other then that, he's a pleasant child. Now, If he had wings, maybe it would just take a little practice work to get them under control and he should be just fine. Amenadiel is enjoying being a father, he's been doing his best "
She took a break from using her faux voice to answer texts from her family, before responding to Michael "To be honest I haven't really done much just been pushing forward with my life trying to figure out which way to go. So I made the biggest move ever, I put myself out of the spotlight, so the girls can have their chance to sing and shine. Of course, that was long before this." she pointed back to the box and finished her drink before grabbing her smokes that she had left on the floor with her ashtray and put them on the table.
"Well, You still look good either way." he smiled, "So, how long will it be until I hear your real voice again?" Michael asked and Selene picked up her phone to type as her faux voice spoke, "Well, I will find out when I see my doctor for a follow up tomorrow." She smiled then she took a deep breath and started to type.
"Not that I'm happy to see you again Lucifer, but are you staying? Or is this just a 'pop up every now and then' kind of visit," she looked at him with a serious expression her faux voice doing the talking, " You choose to go back to Hell to get the demon back in line for revolting and invading earth, not to mention you didn't say you were going to come back."
Michael was nursing the drink Selene had given him as he sipped on it before responding, "There's absolutely nothing to worry about, everything is back in order, I just needed a break so I thought I come back and see you first, before I go stop in on the Detective."
Selene was trying to read him something kept nagging her that something just wasn't right so she started typing, " Ah, yes I believe she's working on a case right now, she has missed you as well as everyone else, besides Dan, but Dan is Dan. Actually he has come a long way doing some self improvement he doesn't have much of a burr in his saddle anymore."
Selene then remembered Maze and how angry she has been, "Uh, you might want to be careful of Maze. She was really pissed when you left her here. Don't be surprised if she finds you and then comes at you armed to kick your ass." Her faux voice spoke as she continued to type, "And you should make time for Charlie, I've done my fair share of loosing sleep to give Amenadiel and Linda a break, it's only right he hasn't seen you since we saved him."
Michael hatched a extra plan at the mention of his nephew and took a sip of his drink, "I suppose you are right. I should get going anyway, with other's to see and maybe I'll see you tonight here?" Michael asked as Selene smiled typing, "I'll be working, but I am free tomorrow night I'll even make dinner." Michael looked thrilled mentally praising how his plan is going so well. He finished his drink then stood up to fix himself up, "Splendid, I look forward to it then. See you tomorrow night."
Selene walked him on out as her instincts were starting to bug her ever since the kiss she let out a sigh as her mind started to war.
(Selene's POV thoughts)
Something is off with Lucifer.
Why didn't the kiss feel so passionate?
Has the flame of the love we have really gone out?
I still love him, am I the problem?
Dose he not love me anymore?
Ugh! Stop! Stop! Stop! You negative voices! He just came back from Hell of course he's going to be different!?
I guess I haven't been the same either... we may have a chance to be able to take our relationship to the next level to be together for real this time.
I should be focusing on having dinner planned for tomorrow night and just not worry so much about Lucifer. I'm so glad Lucifer is back home, here on Earth I do hope everything is going to be alright without him in Hell. If he say's all is good then I have to believe in him right? I mean he never lies...
Grrrr I need a nap I can't deal with this!
(Selene's POV thoughts end)
Selene laid back down on the couch and enjoyed what was left of her movie and fell asleep.
Meanwhile back in hell
"What do you mean you can't tell me?" Lucifer said as Asariel frowned, " Just as I said I can't because I don't know anything. What I can tell you is that you were wrongly put in hell, your brother Michael however didn't like what I had to say to him for what he had done to you, so, I suppose your brother is missing a few feathers because of me." she said with a smirk
Lucifer chuckled, "The humans on earth have saying 'Karma bites', Since Dad made humanity, they have never stop impressing me how advanced they gained over centuries, but not just with technology and all that, but their way of viewing the world and us." he said as his mind turned Asariel's illusion into Selene.
"People have lost their faith in Dad, quite frankly I don't blame them as I've given up on dear old dad myself. You know Dad always had a rule about humans and the Devine mixing, well it doesn't seem like Amenadiel is getting reprimanded for having a baby with a human." Asariel looked at him quite puzzled. "Time has changed in Heaven it sounds if God is letting angels around humans."
Lucifer put his hands in his pocket's, "Not exactly, just Amenadiel has given humans a chance other then myself." Asariel looked at him with pride, "Samael, you have really grown I may just be a subconscious of who I once was but even I can see that being among humans has done alot of good for you, now if only your other siblings can be like you."
Asariel's noticed a picture and had to take a long, "Who's this? a human you know?" She asked curious examining the picture. "I'm not quite sure exactly what this would mean, but Dad blessed her your powers." She looked at him in a way that reminded him of Selene, they had similar qualities, speaking to Asariel made him question a lot of things. "You're joking God gave a mortal my powers? I knew he had a plan but I had no idea about this was apart of it. How is that working out?"
Lucifer glared softly at Selene's picture, "She was freaked out about it, but last I knew she has accepted it." Asariel looked at Lucifer and saw something she had never seen before. "Do you like her?" she grinned at him, "I do."
Asariel let out a sigh, "I'm glad you found love Lucifer, I had a window of opportunity, but...I missed that window because I ran away from the human who found me. I missed my chance, what about you?" Lucifer looked angered, "I'm here out of responsibility Asariel, Demons were in full revolt because I wasn't here. I have to protect humanity! I'm protecting her!"
Asariel gave him her resting 'not buying it' bitch face, " So your just going to just stay here and wonder what could have been?" Lucifer turned his back to her, " I have no doubts she can take care of herself, I am where I belong. She'll be better off without me."
Meanwhile on Earth
Selene was mixing drinks like a champ on the busy night they were having, ever since she had made alot of improvements to her bar, the girls were having their spotlight moment. Selene missed being able to sing she had so many songs lined up, but she wasn't prepared to end up with large nodes and tonsillitis and fever like hot flashes . She hated to be told she had to pull back from singing, but even she knew it was time to put her health first.
So she couldn't see Charlie until her surgery was done, just to make sure incase Charlie was mortal he wouldn't fall ill to what she had. Now that she was better she was able to start helping out again. Right now Selene had to focus on working, even if she lacked communication the girls knew Selene like the back of their hand so actions and looks speaks more to them then her voice.
She didn't bother to mention to them that Lucifer was back just yet. She was thinking about just coming out and just tell them everything, but decided against it until she was able to speak again. It would be better to wait then have to type up explanation to them then prove it. She wished she could have told them when they bought her a Pop up white angel wing wireless phone charger stand, when they put her phone on the charger it made her cry because her phone's lock screen was Lucifer, and reminded her of the last thing she saw before he left.
She knew her friends and family wouldn't understand why it made her cry, she felt guilty she couldn't bring herself to tell them then, but she knew she had to do it soon. Selene knew they meant well trying to make her happy, now that Lucifer was back she could smile and feel bright again while she worked. The bar was packed and booming like no tomorrow an Selene couldn't be anymore grateful as she had a date to look forward to with Lucifer and that was all the energy boost she needed to have a great night partying it up with everyone.
