Chapter One.
Soda's POV.
"Boys," my Mom said sleepily, coming into my room. "Are you going to go to sleep at all tonight?"
Steve and I looked up from our poker game. Mom and Dad usually don't mind us staying up all night when Steve sleeps over, but I kind of guessed something bad had happened with Steve's parents that even Steve didn't know, because I hadn't seen Mom's eyes looking so bleak since we found out that my cousin, Carolina, was pregnant (Carrie's only seventeen).
Steve looked at my clock. "No."
"I think you should," Mom said gently.
I rolled my eyes. "We'll put the light out after a couple of more games, okay?"
Mom grinned at me. "You know, when you get like this, you remind me an awful lot of your father when he was fourteen."
"Night, Mom."
"Night, boys."
"You aren't really going to put the light out, are you?" Steve asked as soon as we heard my parents' bedroom door close.
"Course not," I scoffed. "Seriously, Steve. And here's me thinking you know me!"
Steve laughed and whacked me on the leg. "You're evil."
"Good evil, though."
"Whatever."
I guess we did drop off eventually, though, because the next thing I knew, I was face down on the floor and somebody was making little snuffley sounds in their sleep. At first I thought it was Two-Bit, because he's the only one out of all of us who makes snuffley sounds in his sleep and even when he's not supposed to be with us, he sometimes sneaks over for a sleepover with whoever's at our house.
"Shut up, Two-Bit," I muttered drowsily.
"I ain't Two-Bit," a familiar voice muttered back.
I laughed. "Whatever." Of course, I pretty much had a heart attack when I propped myself up on my elbows, though, because it really wasn't Two-Bit. It was me.
A/N: Yeah, I know it's a bit short (and crap), but I just found it... and I've got an eye infection. (You: Awww!) Yeah. lol. Please R&R!
