Mission 02: Meet the new world.
Shortly after Dante arrived at his new family's home in the arms of his seemingly new mother, he realized that he was definitely not dreaming.
"Oh no, that feeling you get when you get your ass wiped and when you are forcefully breastfed definitely couldn't be dreamed"
That's what led him to his final conclusion, which would end up making him despair, for a while...
Until he finally resigned himself and adapted.
What else could he do? He couldn't even crawl away.
So he had no choice but to accept living with these people until he could be independent, and escape from being suckled.
His diabolical presence would attract demons, and they would be in danger...
"Wait a minute, I'm still half demon?"...Or so he thought for a while.
For he realized that all trace of demonic aura in his body was gone.
Something that filled him with more questions than the ones he already had, such as the main ones:
How and why had he been reincarnated? Was it the divine will of some god? Some kind of Deus-Ex-Machina that still had plans for him?
No.
Of course not.
No god would be willing to revive a devil.
That he would find out later.
If he was alive, it was of his own free will.
That's the most plausible possibility he came to when he turned 10 (again) after giving the matter a lot of thought.
And boy, did he know about demonic affairs.
After all he killed devils who had possessed or even completely taken over the souls of mortals in the past: They lived as humans for a while, only to leave the families they deceived in absolute despair before they murdered thems.
And if that was possible, why wouldn't "Self Reincarnation" be possible?
Argosax, that ex-king of hell, took complete possession of Arius's soul and body. It was said that he was immortal, because whoever killed him, would become Argosax.
How crazy does that sound?
Perhaps even Arius could have served as a vessel for his resurrection had he not been killed, as if he were some sort of Voldemort.
Putting aside his conjecture about what he knew, analyzed with the new series and movies he had seen recently, Somehow his demonic desires had created this possibility before he died. Probably his soul had transmigrated thanks to his remaining demonic powers and his human side ended up "incarnating" in the body of an unborn child, as if it were a sort of "avatar".
And it almost seemed that the child had not been selected by his demonic powers at random.
The child's appearance may not have been exactly like the one he had, but it did have some resemblance to his former body. And besides, one of his names was Antoni...Nah, they're just little coincidences. If his new name was Dante, and he was an albin Englishman, that would have made him doubt that the child was not selected at random: Or maybe his demonic powers changed the genetics of the boy's appearance a bit?
Back to the point, thinking about the possibility of having taken away the life of a child to survive made him sick and nauseated him, many times.
But what else could he do? What was done was done. And besides, it's not like he did it intentionally.
It was a simple blunder.
An incomplete blunder, for the "avatar" for his resurrection was not perfect.
After all, he did not come back to life being completely what he was before.
Yes, he possessed all his intellect, personality, conscience and "wisdom".
And at this age, he had already realized that he was quite a strong, fast, and durable child in superhuman ranges.
His "mind's eye" was also still there, and apparently he also possessed magical power of some sort. Not demonic, though.
All this he discovered a year ago when a car nearly ran over "Jeanne" his new mother. At that moment the world seemed to slow down and moved so fast that he was able to prevent the accident from happening. Her mother to this day does not know what happened, she believes it was a miracle or a hallucination *1.
Probably the "strength" of the demonic power used in his resurrection, ended up giving him some magical power of some kind that was improving the attributes he had as a human being, but without the flesh and blood of Sparda, it would always be an incomplete resurrection.
In any case, it was all just conjecture, and not something he cared much about when he turned 10 years.
He had a new life now, and he was getting used to enjoying it.
And speaking of which. He finally figured out what language they spoke around here.
He was now living in Japan.
And his new family was unconventional.
His mother was a Russian of croatian descent, named Janina, but she was affectionately called "Jeanne" because she is an English teacher, and on the other hand, the one who is now his father is Japanese, his name is "Kusanagi-Godou", he is a lawyer, and a former regional volleyball player.
They seem like two difficult races to find in the same place, but in reality their families are not so far from each other: "Jeanne" is originally from Sakhalin Island, a Russian island very close to Japan, so they have cultural exchanges more often than your think.
They met when Jeanne got a job as an English teacher in the city of Kuoh.
You know, globalization.
And apparently in this world Sakhalin Island is much more populated than in theirs.
Dante had a home, which although simple, was quite comfortable. A classic two-story Japanese dwelling with a small front yard located in Kuoh City.
Also at the age of 5, his mother had another child; A girl with brown hair who was named "Żaneta Shizuka Kusanagi" after one of his paternal and maternal grandmothers, while he was named "Akira Antoni Kusanagi" after one of his maternal and paternal grandfathers
Why? Apparently it was a sort of agreement that his parents had. Personally, for "Dante" the combinations sounded awful, as if a couple of first-timers and too young parents had chosen names that sounded "cool", well, he could always go to a judge and change his name when he came of age, so he'd have to put up with it for a while.
Speaking about Shizuka, like any younger sister she was very loving, but also very cloying, something that annoyed "Toni", but despite that, he loved her. There was also "Ichirou" the only survivor of his paternal and/or maternal grandparents who was still alive to this day: he was a "curious" old man whom he visited once in a while; he ran a book store, and apparently broke old ladies' hearts.
And talking about his life as a child and student: There was not much to tell. Once he learned the new language and accepted the fact that he could not do much to change his current life, he adapted and little by little, although they could not replace Eva, he began to grow fond of their new family and came to consider them family after a while. So he made the decision to live with them, and not run away as he had previously done with the families who tried to adopt him before he became independent in his first life. After all, a deep part of Dante always wanted to know what it felt like to be back in a home.
He then taken advantage of this second oportunity: he slowly became the kid he was at age 8, went out to have fun when he had the faculties to do so, played video games when he felt like it, ate pizza and strawberry ice cream to bursting when he could, went to the arcades; got into more mischief than most of the other kids; was scolded all the time by his parents for lack of interest in neatness in his room or personal grooming; And in school he passed his subjects with difficulty, except for physical education where he excelled...
...Ok, maybe he was never the typical kid that every parent wants, and he was more "Bart-Simpson" type of kid.
But, he enjoyed his "Isekai" live, and at least in his first 12 years he never complained about how quiet his new life was.
It was a second chance in every way, in another world.
Until the "hunter" inside him started asking for some action: A little more "supernatural" spice to the sauce of monotony that had been formed.
But before we get to that point, I think there's one detail I was missing...
...I said "another world" just now again, didn't I?
Well, Dante had already intuited why he had been reincarnated, but he still didn't understand why he had done it in an alternate earth.
It's not like the concept of an alternate earth surprised him by any stretch of the imagination. In the past when he had met the demon-hunter called Beryl, and destroyed the demonic artifact known as "Beast Heads" he had ended up traveling to an alternate earth where Mundus ruled the earth, and ironically Mundus' former generals had formed a legion of rebel demons who tried to free the humans who were still alive from slavery. And his mother Eva, years ago had been the leader of the resistance! *2
Unfortunately he couldn't meet that version of Eva, since she had already died when he arrived in that world, but that's something to be surprised about.
On the other hand, this earth was almost identical to his own.
He discovered that he was most probably in an alternate land when he found things that did not match his world by surfing the internet, watching the TV news, or simply by comments people made from time to time: "Fortune Island" was not called that here, in this world it seems that his ex-father never ruled it, and instead it was called "Sardinia", an island belonging to Italy while in his world it was an island independent of that country, although the people in "fortuna" did speak Italian.
"Vie de Marli" also did not exist as such, instead it had its old name before it was called so, Dumary Island. There were still huge cities with curiously named religions in his territory, like the "Cult of the Triune"; which is a religion similar to Christianity, although it has combined aspects of other Semitic religions. Also, their names of the citys and it locations did not match the ones he remembered, and besides a another strange religion called "Great Ancient Ones" that never existed in his world had "flourished" there.
But the most important thing, the thing that gave him the clue that this was another world with a different path was that the information about his ex-father was practically nil. If you put "Sparda" on the net in this world, there was only one entry in doogle, something that would be impossible in his world. In his world, Myths, legends, and inaccurate "creepy-pastas" plus the religion that was formed after the passage of Sparda on island fortune, could always be found there, while in this world there was barely a mention of that name in an ancient and supposedly apocryphal gospel of Judaism, which alluded to: "Sparda, the Devil's Sword."
So he was in another world. He was not surprised, but disappointed, and a little sad; For a moment he thought he would be able to see his nephew and his old friends again at some point.
Why did something so strange happen? He had no idea at all, but it wouldn't take him long to find out, That the whole cause and effect of it, belonged to "something" that had also come here from his world.
On his 15th birthday...
The white-haired boy with black streaks and jet-colored bangs felt almost as strong as when he first visited Teg-me-ni-gru.
In addition to his physical features, his physical appearance and mental attributes had not changed either in all this time.
He was also still without a trace of any devilish aura or enhanced healing. But at least he possessed decent magical power without attributes, like the high-ranking sorcerers and wizards of his world.
That feeling of strength was still the same as it was a year ago, so apparently this was the limit of what his reincarnation did to his body to give him back his powers, or it may be that his current magical power can no longer enhance his attributes; At least without training.
Of course, it's not like he was one of those people who went through absurd training to achieve crazy powers like in the shonens.
He did exercise from time to time to kill the boredom, and getting that adrenaline rush that coursed through his veins when he jumped around the abandoned buildings of the coastal area was wonderful, but it's not like he was thinking about getting into an anime-style training plan: Nothing beyond that. It's not like he was worried that suddenly a Demon-King would appear in the human world to try to eat all of humanity.
And if one showed up, it wouldn't be his problem. It's not like he didn't want to stop it, of course he would try if it came near him and his family, but being honest, he couldn't do much against something of that level.
Nevertheless, he hoped that it would not happen, and if it happen, that there would be some "dark knight" in this world, as his father or he had been in his.
At the moment he had barely begun to probe the slums of the supernatural world surrounding Kuoh City, so he had no idea if anyone existed for that purpose...
"Brat!". His thoughts were cut off when furiously his silver-haired mother shouted at him after having opened the room belonging to the aforementioned and observing that its interior was a mess, "Antoni! Come and fix your room right now! You're 15 years old! 15 years old! Stop being a slacker!"
The room, which was an ordinary teenager's room, had the sheets crumpled and thrown here and there, a desktop pc with underpants on the keyboard, a dusty TV, a piece of pizza stuck on the window, video game discs lying everywhere, 2 empty pizza boxes on top of dirty clothes piled up and noodles that for some reason were scattered in a half-opened drawer. Oh and by the way, there was a poster of a girl figure made with purpure-pink paint, like the sign that his old business had (he had had it made some time ago to remember old times).
"I'm coming! I'm coming! You don't have to make so much drama! My ear is sensitive, you know! *sigh*"—The ex-sparda sighed wearily, after answering his mother plaintively. He had never quite gotten used to these situations, or the school classes. why his mother not just relax and let him do it in his own time?. Sometimes, he'd rather Trish electrocute him, to continue to be penalized for things like that—" Oh, mom, it's no big deal, last week it was worse~"—As he spoke nonchalantly while putting his hands on the back of his neck, the boy walked up the stairs of his house to the second floor, heading to his room. Then he spoke again, apathetically with a litle of sarcasm, entered his bedroom and began to lift what he could— "By the way, I told you to call me Toni, Antoni is a very long name *sigh*"
"Toni to your friends! Here I'll call you what I want brat! Now you don't get out of here until you fix this!...I think...I think...I think there's even a piece of pizza stuck in the window?!". The silver-haired girl's raucous shouting soon turned to a tone of disbelief when she noticed a slice of pizza slowly dripping down from the window
"Oh, that's right! I stuck it there so I wouldn't forget to eat it later!"—That said, Toni walked over to the window and proceeded to slowly peel off the slice and then gobble it down with a little hesitation. He hadn't really stuck it there for that reason. In fact, he didn't even remember why that slice was there in the first place, but he couldn't look like a big dumb pig in front of his mother, so he said the first thing that came to his mind, and played his own game. At least the Pizza still tasted good when he put it on his tongue— "It's delicious!~" —A wry smile formed on his lips as he continued to eat the pizza while directing that last thing to his mother, who had her mouth wide open and a vein throbbing in her temple at having witnessed that.
"What kind of ideas do you have in your head?! Aaaaah! I can't keep watching you eat like a swine! Get it over with today! Do you understand?!"
"Hey, I'm a decent pig, not a swine!"
"You!...[Buntovno i beskorisno derište, učinit ćeš me ćelavim od tolikog bijesa]!". With a gasp and angry words in her native language as she clutched her forehead with one hand, she looked at her wristwatch, and decided to leave before she exploted a vein, "It's already 8 pm, I'm going to go to the supermarket for food, so...! When I come back I hope to see this place clean, including the window! Or else you'll sleep in the yard today! I swear!"
*Hit*-That said, she left the room slamming the door and then went down the stairs.
"Sleep in the courtyard? Calm your Russian blood down for a moment, damn it". The semi-silver-haired young man chuckled as he muttered that last bit to himself and then continued cleaning the room. A short while later, he stood in front of a mirror in his room, and observed his appearance for a moment. His eyes were blue and wide, with barely any oriental features, his nose a bit sharp, and his hairstyle with mop form had a hair full of black streaks plus the jet bang , which were still the same as always, though more mature.
"Well, maybe if I got a nose job, and painted my hair completely of white, I'd get 75% of my looks back. Hmmmmmm, Meh, I'm not spending money on that shit. Better, I buy the neighbor's old yamaha when I can do it. Yeah, that sounds better" —After having a soliloquy, 'Toni' put on a new shirt and hid his toned muscles— "Anyway, at least in this world it seems that easterners people have more western features than where I come from" —He continued with his soliloquy while he opened a drawer of his closet and took out a small knife, then he made a small wound on one of his fingers, and waited a minute, until he put pressure to stop the bleeding. Obviously the wound did not heal by itself — "No healing factor. Half-demon, half-reincarnated. I had to do everything halfway eh?...Well, if Lady could fight demons like that, why can't I?"
That said, he put the knife back in its place and wiped the blood that had been left on the floor, and then dressed in simple clothes while holding a pair of dark glasses and a hat plus a red scarf. Then, without anyone noticing, he took a black blueprint coverthat he took out of a hidden drawer in his closet, put it on his back, and left his home towards an alley that was 8 blocks away, where he put on his glasses and the scarf plus the hat while he looked for strange presences.
Seconds later, when he did not feel any supernatural presence, he took a big jump and fell on the roof of one of the neighboring homes.
Being very cautious, he hid his identity and superhuman abilities, as he did not want to involve his new family in the world of the paranormal. A world he realized he could not completely leave after all. He simply found it impossible to put the "hunter" inside him to sleep. The lack of adrenaline had already taken its toll on him many times, and sometimes he felt like he would explode finding himself so relaxed all the time. He needed the old action. In his past life he started killing demons for revenge, due to the murder of his mother, but when his revenge was somewhat satiated, he started hunting them for fun plus a sense of duty, so without that, life wasn't the same for this boy.
And the only way to find that life was to go out and find it. Of course, without involving his family in his "vices".
Besides, if he did well, and of course he would do well given his experience in the slums and in the world of the supernatural, what harm could there be? He would make some extra money, and help the community at the same time.
A community that apparently suffered from a high rate of demonic presences from time to time.
"Well, my strength seems to be about what it was when I was 17". he scratched his chin, "So it's time to try this filthy thing on my back". That said, the ex half-blood jumped from rooftop to rooftop until he reached a distance of 5 km away from his home. He then entered an abandoned building and climbed up to the 4th floor, where he opened the blueprint holster on his back.
From the holster he took out a Katana.
A simple Katana that made the Kusanagi face sad for a moment.
"It's trash, it's definitely trash. Why did I pay so much for it in that dump? Aaaah man, Nero! You better be treating Ebony and Ivory well! And pampering my Devil-Arms!"—He spoke with force and frustration as he swung the katana in multiple directions at a speed beyond what the human eye can observe. Then he finished what he had to say—"...Except for Agni and Rudra, and Yamato. Throw those things away if you want to!"—A frustrated breath later, our hero continued swinging his simple sword and tried to cut the steel of a beam, which he did, But the sword apparently could not withstand his strength, and ended up breaking in half once he accomplished that act that seemed to be impossible for an ordinary sword to accomplish — "I knew it, it's garbage! Give me back my money, old man of dubious provenance! Your mother may cut the heavens and the earth, but this shit isn't magic at all!" —A vein throbbed in his temple for a moment as he whipped the rest of the still-hilted sword over one of the walls. His pavement was also cut, but the sword was damaged even more.
*Siiiiigh*-He sighed in agony, for he knew this was going to happen, but he still held out a faint hope that this sword really was magic, and that its supposed magical "aura" would only appear when he wished to cut something. He knew it was a scam, but all the other swords he wanted to buy previously were even worse than this one.
"If only I was able to summon my Devil-Arms to this place *Sigh* *Sigh* *Sigh* I'll have to settle for this for now, and get real merchants from the world of the occult"
*Strike* *Strike* *Strike* *Strike*: That said, Toni finished releasing his frustration with the concrete wall to one side of his with a few blows that ended up collapsing it, to subsequently apathetically place the remains of the sword in the blueprint holster he had brought.
"At least I hope I can get some good pistols on the black market *sigh*"—He grumbled again as he scratched his head until he tried to distract his pessimistic thoughts for a moment as he turned his gaze to one of the broken windows of the building. He walked over there, and looked through his glasses at the city from above—"Well, be that as it may, I think I'm ready to hunt a few demons without any inconvenience". He smiled.
From a distance, the semi-white-haired Young man could sense a few other demonic presences scattered around the area, the extra-sensory perception of his senses had also been maintained, but it no longer had the sharpness of before.
However, in addition to demonic presences (which, to him, were strange, for some were felt without bloodlust like Trish's aura) there were also other types of supernatural presences that he simply didn't know what creatures they belonged to. They didn't seem to be wizards, warlocks or demons.
"It will be interesting to find out what the heck those things were ~ Hell-Yeah!". With an enthusiastic shout he tried to drown out his frustrations and soon after he finished admiring the city from the heights, "I really hate having to wear these glasses and hat". He said when his hat was moved by the wind and the light of the city lamps reflected on his glasses.
A few seconds later he hid his aura and jumped back in the direction of the alley that was near his house.
When he arrived there, he checked that no one was following him, took off his "disguise" and returned to his house, entering through the open window of his room.
Then, he lay down on his bed until sleep did its work.
"If I do well, maybe I can open another shop. Would that be convenient?"
*Zzzzzzzzzzzz
Shortly after meditating about it, our hero finally fell asleep.
To be continued...
Chapter Clarifications:
*1 Mind's eye: A term used in some fiction series to discover powers related to super-senses, usually referring to the ability to see through godlike speed, and to have quick reactions in super-human ranges.
*2 This happens in DMC novel number 2, which is relatively canon in this story. What means "relatively"?, means i will select what include and what exclude from there novel in this fic, as well as what I will alter from the original lore so that it can be properly integrated into the lore I will create in this fic so that these franchises can coexist (which I will explain in more detail later). You can look for information about the novel on the net, and if you want to read it you can find it in English to download it on amazon, I think...
Library:
This is a small section where I will describe out explanation to character guesses and/or will post tech sheets or explanations of abilities or concepts as they come up in the story. I'm relying on the nasuverse of Fate stay night/etc. for their descriptions and/or placement of ranks/power levels. A little later, I will explain what the "rank levels" consist of.
Diabolic skills showed at this point of the history:
Transcendental Devil's Desire-[Rank EX]
The power of desire that fuels the demonic power of a transcendental devil (the strongest of the strong) can fulfill their deepest fantasies or desires, even if break all logic: These demons are capable of killing even gods or other demons categorized as "immortal", among other abstract and non-abstract powers, such as converting the one who killed them, into them.
Non-Transcendental Reincarnation-[Rank A+]
An ability obtained with "Transcendental Devil's Desire" born from the desire to want to live a normal life with a loving family.
The transcendental half-blood who makes use of this power before his body dies will be able to reincarnate in the body of another randomly designated human being, on planet earth and/or worlds linked to that planet if certain conditions are met. It will grant the ability to replace the soul of another living being of human preference with his own, but in the process he "probably" will lose the "demonic" side of his soul, thereby losing the weapons linked to his demonic powers and "may be" lose weapons born from his devil-side (If you want know the spoiler, read the chapter 13 and 14), as example "Devil-Sword-Dante", as well as any diabolical physical characteristics, such as blood and flesh, which differentiates it from "transcendental reincarnation".
However, "non-transcendental reincarnation", "Probably" will improve the physical attributes and will grant neutral magical power to said "recipient" so that the user who has made use of this power will be able to defend himself in the first years of his life, with the objective of fulfilling without risks the priority condition designated in the wish "to live a normal life" (this will be explained in chapter 15) with this it is sought to avoid dangers and inconveniences / difficulties granted by the dangers that can be found in the first years of life. This is its only objective, the enhanced attributes should not be used to put oneself in risky situations, and that Dante is using these attributes to put himself in danger, it is out of the purpose he had "Non-transcendental reincarnation". It is paradoxical in itself, since his desire was to have "a normal life".
It is also possible that the user retains the characteristics included in the concept of "soul" such as: consciousness, personality, memories, experience, muscle memory, computer memory, with certain supernatural properties that were enhanced when he was a devil: as a "mind's eye".
Said by the way, 3 things:
1)This ability will not work if the soul of the devil or transcendental half-blood was destroyed. Fortunately both brothers still had some attachment to each other so they were hesitant and vague about "wanting to kill each other". They only killed each other's body and blood, but not their souls.
2) Since the half-blood who makes use of this power, loses his demonic side, there should be personality changes in his reincarnation, like the ones seen with "V" and Urizen, however Dante even being a demon, lived as a human who had simple mundane desires. Either of his two sides, both mortal and diabolical, possessed great balance, not desiring to be anything more or obtain anything more than they already were/had. If they separated as Vergil did, there wouldn't have been much change, which sounds odd...well...imagine a complete devil crazy for pizzas...
3) Dante believes that his soul and the magical power he now has drove the physical characteristics of his new body, but that doesn't make sense, it was (Probably) actually the diabolical power used for his reincarnation that altered the characteristics of his avatar/recipient. A human wizard or warlock born with magical power will have physical attributes in the range of a normal human being, which will not change over time unless he undergoes some kind of extensive training.
Transcendental Reincarnation-[Rank EX]
An ability superior to the previous one, that if dante had wished it, it would have come true. This skill also stems from "Transcendental Devil's Desire". That transcendental devil or half-blood who wants to continue living when he was lethally wounded, as long as his soul remains intact, will be able to completely reincarnate without limitations. His soul will invade the body of some random living being nearby or on planet earth, which will be used as a sacrifice.
This "sacrifice" in the span of less than a minute will be converted into the user of "Transcendental Reincarnation" immediately. His blood, flesh, and soul will be transformed into what he was, recovering his appearance, and abilities to 100% at the moment of rebirth, which will be instantaneous.
