Chapter 3

MirabelLOVER: Thx

Soon the cab came to Mirabel's house.

"I'll see you girls at school on Monday." she told her friends, getting out.

"Adios." Angela and Valentina said.

As the cab drove off, Mirabel went inside. Most of the casita was quiet, and Mirabel made her way back to her room. On her way back she ran into Abuela.

"Abuela." Mirabel replied a little surprised.

"Mirabel, where have you been?"

"Oh, I was out a party. Didn't Mama and Papa tell you?"

Abuela gave a sour look at her.

"Spending precious time at parties. When you should be using that time for more productive things." Abuela muttered, as she walked off.

Mirabel didn't even feel anything when she heard that. She just went to her room, changed out of her clothes and into her pajamas, and went to bed.

On Monday, Mirabel and her friends were talking about the party.

"That night was amazing." said Angela.

"Yeah, best night ever." Valentina agreed.

"It was fun." Mirabel mentioned.

"I still say that Marcos guy was into you." Angela teased.

"Come on girls. We only saw each other twice." Mirabel reasoned.

Suddenly a voice called out to her.

"Hey, Mirabel."

The girls looked up, and saw Marcos.

"I wanted to ask you something." Mirabel was surprised, but went up to him.

"Hola Marcos. Que pasa?"

"I hope you don't mind me asking, but would you like to go out for some coffee after school?" Mirabel was surprised.

"Uh...coffee sounds good. Sure I'd like that."

"Great, I'll meet out front after school."

And Marcos left. Mirabel stood there surprised, and Angela and Valentina hurried up to her.

"Well what happened?" asked Valentina.

"Don't leave us hanging." Angela wanted to know.

"He wants treat me to coffee after school."

The two girls squealed in delight.

When school ended the girls hurried outside.

"Do you see him?" asked Mirabel.

"Hmm, not yet." said Angela.

Just then Camillo came up to them.

"Mirabel, aren't you coming?" he wanted to know.

"No Camillo. I have plans just tell everyone I'll be home a little later."

"Okey." Camillo replied, and he went on.

The girls quickly continued to look for Marcos, and then they heard a loud vrooming sound. They looked and saw someone pulling up on a motorbike. They took off their helmet, to reveal Marcos.

"Mirabel over here." he called.

Surprised, Mirabel started towards him.

"Marcos, this is yours?"

"Si, I like to ride it on clear days. So are you ready to go?"

He handed a helmet out to her. Mirabel took the helmet, and looked back at her friends. Angela and Valentina gave her smiles and encouraging looks. Mirabel then smiled, and answered.

"Si, I'm ready."

She put on her helmet, and jumped on the back of the motorbike. And then they drove away from the school, and into the city.

Mirabel had never been on a motorbike before, and she had to admit it was really exciting. The rush of the wind, the adrenaline of moving in between cars on the road, and she had to admit, holding onto Marcos gave her goosebumps.

Soon they came to the coffee shop, after parking they went inside. It was a nice place, with people sitting at tables and booths, drinking coffee, eating pastries, and some were on their phones or laptops.

The two got in line, and made their order. Marcos ordered a latte with a mini coconut cake, while Mirabel wanted a regular cup of coffee with cream and sugar and a torta de tres leches. Marcos paid for their orders with his credit card, and when they got their food they found a seat by the window.

At first Mirabel didn't know what to say, but Marcos spoke up first.

"So Mirabel you have any hobbies?"

"I'm really into sketching and fashion."

"Sounds interesante."

"Really?" Mirabel asked in disbelief.

This was the first time someone other than her friends thought her hobby was interesting. She then told him about the fashion club, and her friends. And in turn, Marcos told her about his life and interests. He said that his parent passed away in a tragic accident, and that he lived with his older brothers.

"I'm sorry, that happened Marcos."

"It's okay. Can't live in the past forever."

When they finished eating, the two got ready to leave.

"Oh hey, Mirabel, I was wondering could I get your number?"

"Oh, sure."

"And in turn, I'll give you mine."

They both took out their phones, and exchanged numbers. Then Marcos took Mirabel home.

When they arrived at her house, Mirabel got off, and gave her helmet back to Marcos.

"Thanks for the coffee, Marcos."

"No problema. I had a nice time."

"So did I." Mirabel replied, smiling.

"I'll see you at school."

Marcos drove off, and Mirabel waited inside. As soon as she walked in the door, she ran into Isabela.

"Isa." Mirabel said surprised.

"Who was that?" Isabela asked.

"Who was who?"

"That guy who just dropped you off on the motorbike."

Mirabel was about to to her sister, when she decided to say something else.

"He's a guy I met at school."

"A guy you met?" "Si, what's wrong with that?" Then Mirabel walked passed her sister, who looked surprised.

As she went to her room, Mirabel chuckled to herself. She could've told Isabela the truth, but for some reason, it felt "thrilling" keeping Marcos to herself. Then she got on her phone and called her friends.

They wanted to know all about what happened with Marcos, and she was happy to tell them.

That night at dinner, as the family ate and talked, and for once Mirabel was content with being overlooked. Then Agustin spoke up.

"So Mirabel, where were you after school?"

"I was out."

"Out where?"

"Out with getting coffee, with a friend."

Before he could question her any further, Pepa began talking about her day at work, and everyone got wrapped up in that. Mirabel just sighed, and went back to her food. Later that night, as Mirabel was getting ready for bed, her phone beeped.

She looked, and saw it was a text message from Marcos. It read,

"Can't wait to see you tomorrow."

Mirabel smiled, replied,

"Me neither."

Then went to bed with pleasant thoughts in her mind.
