"Who the hell are you supposed to be?" Izuku remarked, crossing his arms across his chest impatiently.
Standing a few feet away from him was a tall, muscular, blonde haired man with blue eyes. Honestly, Izuku almost mistook him for Thor considering how similar they were, both in stature and features. However, the mysterious blonde did not have the sheer presence the thunder god possessed. Suppressing a yawn, the older man turned back to Izuku, eyes widening in surprise.
"Oh boy." The blonde man muttered, scratching the back of his head awkwardly.
"I'm Toshinori Yagi, and I'm your step-father." Toshinori said, deciding to bite the bullet and be honest with his stepson, holding his hand out to the green haired teen.
"Izuku Midoriya-Stark, Quirkless, and it's nice to meet ya." Izuku took the outstretched hand, noting how Toshinori's eyes widened at the sight of the scars on his hand.
"Welp, I have school tomorrow so we'll continue this another time. Good night."
The Next Day
Izuku, like every other day, woke up at 5:30 AM, get dressed for his intense morning workout, return home around 6:30, shower and eat breakfast with his mother and stepfather (still weird in his mind) while watching the morning news before heading out for school, in which he quickly rose to the top student academically.
That was the plan anyway, as some villain was rampaging through town and had caused all the trains coming in and out of the area to grind to a halt for safety reasons. As it was the morning rush hour, there were quite a lot of people in the immediate area, which put them in harm's way as the villain smashed some of the steel railings for the tracks, which caused some large debris to fall would have crushed more than a few people (fucking idiots Izuku would call them) if not for a timely intervention of a pro hero who was able to catch the debris before it caused any harm.
"Oh, it's Death Arms!"
"He carries out justice through his great physical strength, The Punching Hero!"
As he carried the heavy steel load away and threw it a safe distance, another hero made their appearance, this one using water to form a sort of barricade to help the police keep the civilians back from the rampaging villain. "Everyone, this is dangerous, please stay back!"
"The rescue specialist, Backdraft, is here too!"
"But man, turning into a monster is an amazing quirk."
"What did he even do?"
"Apparently he stole someone's bag and when he got cornered, he went out of control."
"A Quirk like that and he's a bag snatcher."
"Absolutely moronic. All these Darwin Award contestants can't fathom the idea that these 'heroes' could fail. If Death Arms or Backdraft get taken out, they're prime fucking targets to be taken hostage at the bare minimum, which will makes things even worse! I can't fucking believe I used to like this place." Izuku thought to himself with a bored expression as he watched the scene with his fellow morons- I mean humans.
He did notice another figure make their appearance as a man covered with spandex and wood run to meet the villain head on, and if Izuku's own recent memories weren't enough, the screams of joy from some of the younger women in the crowd reminded him of who this was.
"YOU CAN DO IT KAMUI!"
"Must they screech so loudly? He can't fucking hear you, you hellspawned fangirl." Izuku silently insulted the bane of all existence as he watched how Kamui Woods swung and bobbed around the attacks from the villain using his wood to form ropes to latch on to stuff and swing around.
"Limited in speed and area that he is effective in, let alone can help: although he could potentially have a wide area of potential, he will ultimately be incredibly niche in what he can do." Izuku graded the wooden hero internally.
Considering he is most likely one of, if not the smartest person on the planet currently, he could safely say his grade was fair.
"Get away!" the villain yelled at Kamui Woods before he tried another wing at him only for Kamui woods to expertly dodge the attack and land on the train station's terminal roof.
"Illegal use of powers during rush hour and robbery resulting in bodily injury. You are the incarnation of evil." Kamui spoke as he stretched out his arm. Meanwhile Izuku snorted in disbelief, ignoring the stares of the others near him.
"Oh puh-leeze, this is literally a bottom tier criminal right: a common thug. Meet Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse, Dr. Doom, or Galactus and then we'll talk. Hell, fucking MODOK is more villainous than this guy. Speaking of, I wonder how he and the family are doing, I haven't talked to Melissa in awhile." Izuku both criticized and pondered as he'll be honest, Melissa was cute and he generally liked the family.
If MODOK wasn't trying to take over the world, Izuku genuinely did enjoy talking with him.
"Pre-emptive Binding: Lacquered Chain Prison!" the wooden hero shouted.
"How could anyone be this fucking retarded? You are literally telling someone who could is dangerous and could possibly kill you or others what you're going to do. You might as well say left punch, right hook, etc just as you're about to throw those punches." Izuku facepalmed, appalled at the absolute stupidity of those entrusted to save lives.
Or at least, that should have happened since one last hero made their appearance at the same time.
"Canyon Cannon!" a giant woman shouted as she drop-kicked the poor man so hard he flew off the train tracks, went through the wall of the track-way and painfully smacked into the adjacent building, knocking him out on impact. Meanwhile the crows, police and heroes were shocked at the surprise entry.
"Eh?" And poor Kamui Woods was left still standing in his striking pose with his branches still reaching out to capture an opponent no longer in front of him. The newcomer landed in the meantime and then for some reason, the…male-only crowd of photographers started taking many, many pictures.
"Here it is, here it is, here it is, here it is." They all spoke in unison which was kinda creepy.
"Fucking creeps." Izuku sneered
"Today is the day of my debut, my name is Mt. Lady. A pleasure to make your ass-quaintance." And as she said this rather lewd line, she had slightly bent to emphasize her now, well it was still relatively large for her body, giant ass to the crowd, which as expected garnered even more photos taken of her.
Izuku raised an eyebrow, silently appraising the attractive woman.
Based on her body proportions, he'd say she would be about 5'4 to 5'6, and was a voluptuous young woman who had purple eyes with white pupils, with elegantly long eyelashes. She had long, voluminous, creamy blonde hair reaching her waist, drawing attention to her admittedly large behind and hips(an odd combination of large, round, soft yet firm that suited her mused Izuku) with two shorter strands curled to frame her face, parted slightly to her left.
Her hero costume was composed of a purple and pale tan-colored skin tight bodysuit, which was accented with orange stripes. The suit appeared to have a pair of purple gloves with orange accents on the edge of the cuff. The design was similar for her "boots" which were cut off at the thigh in a deep v-shape. The suit also had three peculiar orange diamond-shaped dots on the purple top that are located under her sizable chest (perfectly round D, bordering E cup breasts) and she also wore a purple domino mask with horn-like protrusions on the sides.
"Considering it IS her first day, I can already tell that she is already thinking unlike these other guys, although her methods can use some work. She went in and ended the threat as quickly as possible, not even making herself known until last second, reducing the chance of idiot casualties, and although collateral damage will always be a concern, something that can be worked on, the positives outweigh the negatives her Quirk will bring to the table. If people don't crowd around her she can be an unbelievable force to be reckoned with the right mindset, technique and arena. Considering her Quirk and assuming this is the only size she can be, she can easily be helpful in a variety of scenarios: someone is trapped under something, a large group of thugs, a source of crowd control, allowing allies to focus on other targets. Has incredibly great potential for a diverse area of usefulness." Izuku graded, honestly impressed by the blonde bombshell, who despite literally just starting, was already reasonably more intelligent than companions.
"Harmony, do a background check and put Mt Lady in the AI tab, would you please?" Izuku whispered.
"It is done boss."
"Thank you. Also, give her 8/10 for that pun: I felt it was a little forced."
Later that day at Aldera Junior High
"Since this is your last year of junior high, it's time for you to think seriously about your future," His instructor began, looking out towards the class, "I'll pass out handouts for your future plans now, but…" The instructor snatched his own desk rather violently.
"You're pretty much planning to go into the hero course, right?" The Instructor threw his own papers behind him, sounding rather joyful with that last bit.
The students all yelled yes, all showing off their quirks because they had the opportunity to. The teacher attempted to reason with the children, saying how as cool as their quirks were, it was against school rules to use them.
"Teach.." A new yet familiar voice began, the red eyes of Katsuki shifting his view from the ceiling to the teacher in question, "Don't lump us all in the same group. I'm not gonna get stuck at the bottom with the rest of these rejects!"
And he was immediately ganged up on by the rest of the class, exclaiming how unnecessary that really was. Bakugo was enraged slightly, "You all should shut up like the extras you are!"
The Teacher, seeing a chance, spoke out.
"Oh, if I remember correctly, you want to go to U.A. High, right, Bakugo?" He read it off a paper, and the rest of the class sounded surprised, muttering things about how prestigious it really was. Bakugo began to fix himself in his seat, jumping up into his desk.
"That's exactly why you all are extras.. I aced the mock test! I'm the only one at this school who could possibly get into U.A." A new fire lit in the violent teenager's eyes, "I'll definitely surpass All Might and become the top hero!" He clenched his fist and threw into the air with this proclamation.
The teacher continued, unphased by Bakugo's behavior.
"Oh yeah, Midoriya wanted to go to U.A. too, right?"
Snore
"Midoriya, WAKE UP!" The teacher shouted, flicking an eraser at the obviously sleeping teen, who opted to sleep through all this. He knew all of this and more, why bother?
The students looked at Izuku for a good long moment, before busting out into bouts of laughter, something the teacher didn't really attempt to stop.
The only one who didn't laugh was Bakugo, who stated his opinion rather loudly. He slammed his hands into Midoriya's desk, Izuku only now really waking up, his green eyes unamused.
"What?! You?! What chance do you have?!" Bakugo shouted loudly, before standing up straight, "You have no chance! You're below the rejects! You're Quirkless!"
Izuku yawned before staring at Bakugo with a disinterested look.
"First of all, calm down Sourpatch, you are beyond rude and incredibly loud: I'm contemplating earmuffs just to deal with you. Secondly, what chance do you have with that attitude of yours? I've met villains with better personalities than you. Beyond that, oh I can explode things, nevermind the fact I'll probably make things worse than the villain who is probably running away with a purse or food: collateral damage, suicidal bystanders and just the fact picking up after you would be a pure pain in the ass." Izuku lazily taunted Baukgo, not batting an eye as the firecracker got more and more angry.
Ignoring him, Izuku stood up and looked at the rest of his classmates.
"As for the rest of you, unless you're also attempting to enroll in U.A, more specifically the Hero Course, then please kindly shut up: I don't take criticism or advice from hypocritical people who don't even bother to do or try what I do." Izuku lectured the other teens, who had enough humility to look a little ashamed.
Then the bell rang, with Izuku quickly leaving, his classmates pondering his words, potentially leading them to become better human beings.
Naw who am I kidding, they're still going to become terrible people.
Walking out of the school and easily dodging any and all attempts to disrupt him, Izuku pulled out his phone, looking at the various texts he received throughout the day.
Mom/Magnetic: I'll be home late today, there's a villain I've been chasing who's been on the run all day
Ochako-chan: I can't hang out after school today, I need to help my parents with something
Momo-san: Izuku, I don't know why I didn't think of it, but making my weapons partially diamond was absolutely genius
Izuku mindlessly ran rand calculations and simulations in his thoughts as he continued his walk home, a habit he somehow picked up to pass the time. Sadly he heard this morning that his usual route was undergoing construction at this time, which meant he had to take a completely new route. Nothing wrong with that of course, it's always nice to experience new things.
The teen couldn't help it as a feeling of slight unease crept upon him while walking through an old tunnel, years of experience and instinct beginning to slowly rear its head. The mixture of it became darker and more pronounced the further he went inside, with more and more vandalism the deeper he went in.
He felt as if he was being watched.
Whispering, he commanded his tech to make an invisible, air tight mask, not wanting to potentially tisk suffocation from an unknown force.
Rule 1: Always make sure you can breathe: that shit's important!
"You'll make a perfect skin-suit for me to hide in, kid," a rough and gritty voice spoke from behind. He lazily turned around and watched, disgusted as green sludge began oozing its way up from the sewer. It twisted and turned, its height nearing the ceiling of the tunnel. Yellow eyes filled with malice stared down at him, a manic grin forming and showing its jagged and broken teeth. Without warning it sent numerous tendrils at him, which Izuku dodged with practiced ease, taunting it as he did so.
"Eww eww, for the love of God don't touch me, I just took a nice shower today and you look like you've been rolling in shit your whole life. Or maybe you are made of shit: I don't know or care. You're disgusting is all I'm saying. Have you tried investing in skin care?" Izuku joked, although he was dead serious about not wanting to be touched.
"Stay still you little shit!" The slime growled, clearly agitated.
Deciding to be a little cheeky, Izuku immediately stood still, arms at his side and feet touching each other. Sending a few tendrils of slime out, the sludge could only cry in rage as Izuku started dodging again at the last second, lazily leaning backwards as he looked at the tendrils that flew over his head.
"FOR FUCKS SAKE JUST GET OVER HERE YOU SHIT STAIN! The slime roared, opting for the primal tactic of rushing at Izuku.
"SPEAK FOR YOURSELF! AT LEAST I'M HOUSEBROKEN!" Izuku fired back, commanding his tech to discreetly create a gauntlet, hoping to end this quickly, although he wouldn't need to.
The manhole cover would fly up, and a rather big figure would emerge from it. Not as big as Hulk, Abomination or Juggernaut Izuku saw, but big enough they looked like they could take a hit or two from them. The Villain stiffened up, looking at the figure with a glint of fear.
It was All Might.
"It's fine now, young man… I am here!" All Might.
"All might…" He breathed, his eyes wide with nostalgia: his first inspiration for being a hero was standing right in front of him.
Don't get him wrong, The Avengers, X-Men and various other heroes of his world were his favorites (he would admit he was biased) but meeting your first idol would always have a place in someone's heart, regardless of the person.
The next thing Izuku knew, All Might and the Villain engaged in a fight, ending very quickly with All Might pulling back his fist and yelling out his attack, "TEXAS SMASH!" It barely even connected with him, connecting with the air, and the sludge villain exploded, knocked unconscious.
He blinked for a few moments. All Might looked at his step son, worried. Was he okay? Was he too late? He took a step towards him.
"Young man? Are yo—" He was interrupted by Midoriya, who cut him off.
"I'm fine big guy, I've had worse come after me." Izuku stated, picking up an empty bottle that was exposed during the brief scuffle. Handing it to All Might, the hero seemingly read Izuku's mind and quickly stuffed the villain in the bottle.
"Oh thank goodness for that young man! What is your name, perhaps an autograph is now due?" All Might chuckled at his own joke. Seriously, everytime he saved the day, people wanted an autograph, not that he minded.
"No thank you, but I do have a question."
All Might raised an eyebrow in curiosity. In all his years of heroism, not one fan denied an autograph. Considering how Izuku was clearly a huge fan of his, if his bedroom was anything to go by, this was even more strange.
"And what is that young man?" All Might asked, secretly hoping it wasn't the question he suspected.
"Can someone without a Quirk be a hero?" Izuku asked, unwavering emerald orbs staring straight into blue ones. A question that he knew the answer to, hell he fucking is one: rather this was a test. Away from the press, live television, etc, anything that would influence the Number One hero into saying what was wanted, not what he thought. What All Might truly thought.
Internally, Toshinori was praying to every god he could think of, even though he expected it. As much as he wanted to say Izuku could, he knew better. Lightly trailing his left side, Toshinori reminded himself of what almost happened to him.
"No, you can't be a hero without a Quirk." Toshinori stated, kneeling down and lifting up his shirt to reveal a very thin and faint scar, about 2 feet long, that stretched from where his lung was to across the rest of his stomach and internal organs. To Izuku, it appeared to be a last ditch effort at wounding All Might that succeeded, or something that has long since healed.
"About 5 years ago I fought an incredibly powerful and dangerous villain. Near the end of our fight, I slipped up, allowing him to cause this scar, which would've taken out my lung and most of my organs if he had more time to finish the attack. However, before he could finish me, someone who I swore to never reveal to anyone, arrived and easily defeated the villain with power far beyond mine. Before he disappeared, he told me that the world needed a Symbol of Peace, a true hero, and that I would be the best person to do so. He said he would only come back if someone else worthy of that mantle would show themselves: that we deserved to be called heroes."
All Might lowered his shirt and sighed.
"Considering I nearly died that day, with a Quirk as powerful as mine, and I have not heard of any sign of the hero who saved me, I cannot in good conscience condone someone Quirkless going after villains and endangering both themselves and others.
He rose to his feet and patted his shoulder before turning and walking away. "But don't worry young man, there are many other ways to become someone's hero. Firefighting, police work, charity…"
He sighed again. "I'm sure you will find a way, but don't obscure the facts… For your own safety."
All Might jumped into the air, quickly becoming a speck in the distance, unaware of Izuku just staring at him.
Izuku sighed in disappointment. He was honestly expecting that he truly was, but a small part of him hoped that even All Might could believe a powerless hero was possible, even though he was one.
What they say is true: don't meet your heroes.
"Harmony, can you play that back for me?" Izuku asked.
"No, you can't be a hero without a Quirk."
Izuku's eyes narrowed slightly, his brain running a mile a minute.
"Harmony, push up Project AMB/HB and Project SIM as top priorities: I want Project AMB/HB 100% by the time of the Sports Festival at UA and Project SIM by the end of my 1st year. Any other projects I will handle myself personally." Izuku ordered in a tone that left no room for argument.
"It has already started, boss."
Little did both know, the bottle that held the slime immediately fell out of All Might's pocket, but by the time he would realize it, it would take him a few minutes to come back.
Walking home, Izuku saw a decent sized crowd at the end of a street, so he immediately turned in that direction. Peeking his way through the crowd, all thoughts ceased as he saw the villain that was causing havoc.
'That's the same guy who attacked me!' Izuku thought as he saw the same slime villain who tried to take his body through the tunnel earlier.
'That can't be right! All Might captured him.' Izuku then thought back to when All Might was flying through the air.
'He must have dropped the bottle,' Izuku realized.
"Why aren't the heroes doing anything?" a civilian asked as he was a part of the crowd.
"It looks like they met their match, plus the villain captured a kid and things aren't looking so good," another civilian responded.
'He caught someone? In what, 2 minutes?' Izuku said in his mind as he thought back to how he almost touched that thing and he cringed at the thought of somebody else going through the same traumatic experience, albeit MANY times more deadly.
"Wait, I'm confused, isn't that the same villain All Might was chasing earlier today?" one civilian asked.
"What, All Might?! No way he lost, where is he?"
"Can someone call him or something?" a young woman asked
"Seriously, why hasn't he shown up to help the heroes?!"
Before anyone else could really react, Izuku dashed through the crowd, slipping under Death Arms legs and began running toward the slime, a gauntlet forming on one his hands and a mask of sorts began forming in the other.
"NO YOU IDIOT. STOP YOU'RE GOING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED!" Death Arms yelled as he tried to stop the young man from heading straight into danger, only to receive a middle finger for his efforts.
"Not this brat again…" The Slime Villain said as he looked towards Izuku.
"You're toast kid!" The Slime Monster yelled as he aimed his fist towards Izuku. Before it could connect, Izuku brought his gauntlet forward, whirring to life and firing a repulsor blast at the appendage, knocking it back with a small shockwave. Not letting up, Izuku continued his assault, only this time he opted for a low powered beam, swiping at the slime at random but in reality it served a greater purpose. Within seconds, the hostage was revealed, who was none other that Bakugo.
"Deku what the fuck are do-."
Izuku quickly slammed the mask on Bakugo's face, the nanotech creating an airtight filter around his mouth and nose, finally giving him a chance to breathe. Immediately afterwards, Bakugo was sucked from the slime and behind Izuku. Doing a quick 180, Izuku saw that it was his Mom that had finally arrived, panting heavily, sweating pouring down her red face.
"Damn she's really been at. Harmony please switch to the coolant. I'm beyond done with this guy." Izuku murmured to himself and the AI, still in midspin. Hearing a low click, Izuku finished his rotation and brought the gauntlet straight to the villain's face and fired a spray of cold white mist, freezing the villain in his place in seconds, his entire body looking over Izuku menacingly.
Turning back to the crowd, Izuku raised his arms wide at them, a condescending smirk on his face.
"You're welcome." he taunted.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT KID?" Death Arms shouted as Izuku sat calmly to the side of the rescue services, chewing on a piece of gum he was craving.
"Three out of the four of you who were capable of doing something weren't, so I figured I'd show you how Hero work is really done," he lazily remarked. Pulling up his gauntlet, he began showing a few low quality simulations.
"Here, watch this." Izuku told them.
The gauntlet showed three possible ways the heroes could have done something: Kamui Woods going around behind the slime and grabbing Bakugo from behind or sending his wood underground. Backdraft just spraying the slime off with water, stopping both the rampage and preventing more fires from breaking out. Death Arms simply running in there and yanking Bakugo out.
Powering down the simulations, Izuku turned to glare at the heroes.
"Someone could have easily been saved but no, you were too scared about potentially being hurt. The only one I am giving a pass to is tall, blonde and beautiful over there-."
Mt Lady began to blush.
"-and that's only because she couldn't use her Quirk here, considering ALL THE DARWIN AWARD CONTESTANTS WHO CROWDED AROUND A DANGEROUS AREA LIKE THEY WOULDN'T GET HURT FROM THE EXPLOSIONS AND FIRE!" Izuku shouted.
Izuku huffed.
"You people disgust me." Izuku sneered before walking past the dumbstruck heroes. Before he passed Mt Lady, he stopped next to her and leaned in to talk to her.
"I was there this morning for your debut and while I disapprove of some things you did there, I now know why you did them. All I can say is you're better than that. Just be a good person and you'll be rewarded appropriately in time. Also, 8/10 for the pun, I got a good chuckle out of that." Izuku whispered, giving her a light pat on her shoulder, leaving the blushing blonde bombshell to her thoughts, and a green haired mother proud.
It was a few minutes later when an event that Izuku did not foresee occured.
"DEKU!"
Izuku turned around and saw Bakugo running up to him.
"Bakugo?"
"Listen, I would never ask a weakling like you to help me. Don't think you can look down on me. GOT THAT! I was fine by myself. You're just a Quirkless failure who just got lucky! You didn't help me… You did nothing. Don't forget it. I don't owe you anything!" Katsuki then turned around and began to walk off.
Izuku sweatdropped. "My gods what a tsundere"
"I AM HERE!" All Might yelled as he landed in front of Izuku.
"Young man, I came here to thank you. And also to discuss your question from earlier." Toshinori said.
Before Izuku could open his mouth, All Might held a hand out in the universal sign of stop.
"I'm not done. You asked me if someone who is Quirkless can be a hero, and I said you couldn't if you didn't have a Quirk. So when I heard this Quirkless boy try and succeed to save a life and stop a villain somehow, it opened my eyes."
"There are stories about every Hero. How they became Great. Most have one thing in common… Their bodies moved before they had a chance to think. Almost on their own…"
"Young man… You too can become a Hero." All Might said.
"And I deem you worthy of my power. My Quirk is yours to inherit." All Might said as he put out his two hands in a motion like he was trying to give someone something.
"What the fuck are going on about?"
AN: HAHAHAHA, you thought I would reveal Izuku's choice that quickly, but instead you'll have to wait two chapters! Diabolical.
Next chapter, I'll be focusing on setting up some of Izuku's Harem and introducing a few familiar faces, setting the stage for greater things to come.
All I will say is this: The Entrance Exam chapter will get you pumped up!
