A/N: Here is the next chapter of my Megaforce rewrite, which I've dubbed "Starforce". I hope you enjoy!

Disclaimer: I do not own Power Rangers Megaforce/Starforce or Tensou Sentai Goseiger in any way. I just own most of the plot and the characters and things you don't recognize from the original version.

The one thing I will never forgive (Super) Megaforce for is the lack of Gia-focus content. In that spirit, this chapter is Gia centric, with some major focus on teamwork from Gia's perspective. The inspiration for this chapter comes from an interview with Ciara Hanna, who said that her ideal Gia-focus episode is one where Gia shows genuine emotions other than badassery.

Power Rangers: Megaforce REDO – dubbed Starforce

Season 1, Episode 4: The Ice Queen

Coin Lane, Harwood County, Oregon

September 18, 2015

It was Friday and school had just ended. Jake was looking forward to the weekend. He had no homework, for once, Emma planned to visit friends all weekend long, which mean he would mostly be alone, and he planned to make the most of the two-day break.

And at the time, he didn't think of it as such, but he should've known that his usual drive home being cut off by road work, forcing him to take a detour, was the omen of bad luck that started all of the following drama.

Because the detour forced him to turn onto a road that he frankly didn't like driving on.

Coin Lane was basically "poor town". But Jake didn't dislike driving his black truck on it because of that, but rather because the road was uneven and long overdue for a repaving. But this was currently the only way he could get home.

So he sucked it up.

He got to a stop sign, and as he waited for the two drivers that got there before him to go, something caught his eye.

A familiar blonde named Gia was waiting for the sidewalk light to change, an African-American little girl right next to her, smiles on both their faces.

Their eyes met, hers widening seemingly in fright that left his expressing mild confusion when she angrily turned her gaze away from it.

It was his turn to go, and he merely rolled his eyes as he started driving again, leaving Gia and the girl in the dust.

Just a regular day...

~S~A~N~C~T~U~A~R~Y~~~P~O~W~E~R~~R~A~N~G~E~R~S~~S~T~A~R~F~O~R~C~E~~~M~E~G~A~F~O~R~C~E~~R~E~D~O~

Gia immediately shivered from the sudden cold as she and Lily reached their house. She immediately looked around, just barely managing to duck as shards of ice shot from the distance, fanning out from one point.

"Look out!"

Gia was also quick to pull Lily down, but an ice blast hit the little girl in the head.

"Lily!" she called out as scooped the girl in her arms. "Are you okay?"

"My head hurts..." Lily groaned. "Brain freeze..."

A laugh sounded in the background, a laugh that didn't sound human.

Gia took off her leather jacket, leaving only her yellow tank top as her only cover from the incoming cold wave, just as their two parents (also African-American) exited the house.

"What happened?" their mother asked, as Gia wrapped her jacket around Lily's freezing shoulders.

"A monster," Gia replied. "Keep her warm. I'll be right back. I forgot something at the school."

Their father called after her as she ran towards the central point, "Be careful!"

Once she was out of their sight, Gia ducked behind a dumpster, "Starforce, Shine Down!", and morphed in a flash of yellow.

When Gia (fully morphed) got to the battlefield, she found people running away from a frost-covered area. Wasn't it too early for Christmas?

Up on a balcony, she saw the monster laughing gleefully, "Yes, humans! Bow to Frostquito as he turns your world into an eternal winter!"

Gia jumped onto the balcony where Frostquito was and immediately aimed a kick at him before ducking a swing.

"Back off, puny human!" Frostquito cried as he squished Gia against the wall.

"Starforce, Shine Down!"

Jake morphed in a flash of purple as he jumped up as Gia went down and nailed a solid kick to the monster's chest.

As Frostquito was getting up, Jake turned to Gia, "You okay?"

But he was surprised when Gia smacked his hand away, "Don't touch me!" She then ran towards the monster again, and Jake made sure she was hot on her heels.

Down below, Troy, Noah, and Emma arrived on the battlefield, fully morphed, stopping to help up a man who had passed out from the cold. He woke up in time to see green-colored Spirits hop down. Troy and Noah engaged them while Emma escorted the man away from the fight.

Mid-fight, Troy called up to Gia and Jake on the balcony, "Hold on, guys! We're on our way!"

Gia leaned over the railing to answer as Jake fought Frostquito. "Don't worry! I've got this one!" she said before rushing back into the fight.

"Puny humans," Frostquito muttered, as he dodged the duo's jabs and punches, "I said GO AWAY!"

Gia was sent to the ground, but Jake jumped over her and continued to fight.

When the Yellow Ranger recovered, she was growling. She pulled out her Morpher and a Power Card, "Go away, Jake. He's mine! Rockrush Card!"

Jake immediately protested, "Gia, don't! You haven't mastered it yet!"

"Shut up!" She bit back. "Rockrush: Shine Down!"

"EXPLOSION!"

A rock was formed from the ground below her and flew up into the air. Gia leapt up and kicked it with her leg, sending it at the enemy.

Frostquito was unamused. "Tch! You Rangers aren't strong enough to beat me!" he said, before punching the rocks Gia created back at her. All of them hit her square on and sent her to the ground below, where the other three were.

"Gia!" Jake called out, as Frostquito followed her.

Gia immediately got to her feet, but a sharp pain in her right leg made her collapse again. Troy stopped mid-fight with the Spirits when she saw this, "Gia! Hold on!"

The monster was walking towards her, "This is where your life ends, Yellow Ranger." But she couldn't move. Her hurt leg was weighing her down.

"Snake Axe!" Jake leapt down, striking at the monster from behind. The attack was a solid hit and it broke up a piece of his ice wings.

"No! My wings!" Frostquito muttered, before stumbling off.

Gia tried to get up, to go after him. Jake kneeled beside her, his Axe in hand, "You okay?"

"Get off me!" Gia venomously hissed at him, as Troy knelt at her other side, Noah and Emma close behind him. "He's getting away!"

"After him!" Noah cried out, leading the way as Troy and Jake followed.

Meanwhile, Emma stayed behind with their fallen teammate, "Hold on, Gia."

~S~A~N~C~T~U~A~R~Y~~~P~O~W~E~R~~R~A~N~G~E~R~S~~S~T~A~R~F~O~R~C~E~~~M~E~G~A~F~O~R~C~E~~R~E~D~O~

It was a shame that the heated tension between Jake and Gia couldn't melt the ice, because while they argued, a blizzard raged on.

"How could you let the monster escape?!" Gia yelled, as Emma bandaged her injured leg.

The five were recuperating at a nearby outdoor dining table. Gia was the only one seated. The three guys had just returned.

"Oh, so this is my fault?!" Jake yelled back.

"It was no one's fault," Troy said. "Spirits got in our way."

"Troy's right." Noah interrupted, before holding up the broken ice crystal that the monster left behind. "Now, this crystal came from Frostquito, so logically, we should be able to use it to track him down. So, don't worry, Gia. This is far from over."

Gia took a deep breath in order to calm herself down, and once she did, Noah handed the crystal to her.

And then Jake had to open his mouth again. "Personally, I think Gia should stay behind. Her leg is hurt, after all."

"Excuse me?!" Gia immediately protested.

"Jake," Troy calmly interrupted, "all five of us need to fight to him. Together."

The Black Ranger, however, ignored him and continued to argue, "You're the one who used an attack despite knowing full well that you haven't mastered it yet!"

Troy and Emma shared a look of concern with each other, before connected their eyes with Noah's, who had the same look of worry on his own face. To be honest, none of them had completely mastered all of their respective cards, due to them being new and all, so they all agreed that this was unfair to bring up as an insult.

"I NEVER ASKED FOR YOUR HELP!" Gia's outburst made everything stop. She stood up from her seat, the crystal in her hand. "I don't need any help at all. Lily is my sister, so therefore Frostquito is my opponent and mine alone."

Jake turned around, his back to her, in a huff, while the other three watched Gia hobble away, taking the ice crystal with her.

"How cowardly!" Creepox said. "He ran away as soon as he got hit!"

"Don't be so hard on him, Creepox," Malkor replied. "He couldn't risk the Rangers clipping his wings so easily."

"Exactly," Vrak added. "His wings are the source of his power. And the longer his storm lasts, the strong he becomes. He still has fight in him."

Creepox said nothing, merely walking away.

The crystal glowed a bright shade of white-blue every time the blizzard grew in intensity, and the glow got brighter with every step Gia took as she got closer to where the center of the storm was. Noah was right.

This was the easiest way to track him.

It would be hard with her injury weighing her down, but she could do this.

She had to.

The other four Rangers were waiting in the same spot that Gia left them at. It was Noah's idea. He had brought up the point that Gosei and Tensou could easily locate her via her borrowed powers, so there was no need to search for her right now.

"I don't get it," Jake groaned. "Why is she so mad at me?"

"I don't know," Troy replied. "What happened between you two?"

"Nothing," Jake answered, remembering the day. "We were fine all during school. We barely saw each other, and whenever we passed by in the hallway, we always gave a greeting. We also saw each other after school, in Poor Town. I think she was heading home."

"Ah, that's why she's mad at you," Troy said, reaching an understanding.

"Huh?"

"Listen to me, Jake. Gia may need to learn how to accept help, but you're not exactly Mr. Perfect either." Jake raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Gia's adopted. She's been in the foster care system most of her life, she's never known her real parents, and she was just recently adopted by Lily's parents after they saw how well the two got along."

"So the girl I saw her with?" Jake asked. "That was Lily?"

Jake rolled his eyes, playfully, before reading the next question, "Who knows you the best?"

"My little sister, Lily," Gia replied, a small smile on her face. "We share everything."

"How old is Lily?" Jake asked, as he wrote her answer down.

"She's nine," Gia answered. "We share everything, because we kinda have to."

"Why? Are you poor or something?"

Gia was quiet, before she whispered, "Maybe some other time, I'll tell you. But not now."

Troy nodded, before adding, "And she lives in Poor Town. Keeping all that mind, how do you think she felt after she saw you?"

Jake tried to think hard. But apparently, he was taking too long, because Emma answered for him, "Embarrassed."

"Exactly," Troy said. "Because you found out something about her that she wasn't ready to tell you yet. If you were in her shoes, you'd be embarrassed too. I know I would be."

Noah nodded, agreeing.

Emma cut in, "She also probably feels like her problems don't mean anything to you. She saw the monster hurt Lily, before seeing you step in and take away her chance for revenge."

"That's not what I was trying to do!" Jake protested. "She was in trouble. I had to save her."

"I never said that," Emma calmed him down. "I said that's what Gia saw." Meaning, that's how she saw things go down.

Jake was quiet as he digested all of this. It did make sense, and he definitely owed Gia an apology, but they still needed to work together.

"Okay..." he muttered, before remembering something. He turned to Troy, "Troy, how do you know all about Gia's personal info, while we don't?"

Troy shrugged before answering, as if the answer were that simple, "Because Gia and I actually sit down and talk to each other. Maybe you should try the same thing." And Troy's behavior was fitting. It really was that simple.

Noah's Morpher beeped, signaling an incoming call. He answered, "Yes, Tensou?"

"We've located Gia! Steel Way Park! Hurry! That's also where the central point of the blizzard is!"

~S~A~N~C~T~U~A~R~Y~~~P~O~W~E~R~~R~A~N~G~E~R~S~~S~T~A~R~F~O~R~C~E~~~M~E~G~A~F~O~R~C~E~~R~E~D~O~

Frostquito was about to make his way out of the park, when he sensed something behind him. He turned around to see the Yellow Ranger, unmorphed, making his way to him.

"Ah, come back for a second thrashing?" he asked.

"If anyone's getting trashed this time, it's you," Gia growled. "You'll pay dearly for hurting my sister!"

"Ha! Do it if you can!"

Gia brought out her Morpher, "Starforce: Shine Down!"

Frostquito watched as she morphed in a flash of yellow, and rushed at her as she summoned her Tiger Claw.

Gia mentally cheered when she landed a couple of good hits. She was about to charge again when her injury began throbbing in pain again, immediately sending her back to the ground.

Frostquito took her weakness as his chance to throw a couple of lasers at her, sending her on her back. He then stomped on her, more than once.

"Dragon Sword!"

"Snake Axe!"

Both weapons hit him square in the chest, making him falter and back off.

Emma and Noah knelt beside a fallen Gia as Troy and Jake stood in front of her, all of them morphed. "Don't worry, Gia. We're here," Emma said.

"Back off!" She shrugged off Emma's hand of comfort before moving in front of Troy and Jake. "I told you already that this one is mine!"

Jake didn't back down. This time, however, he chose to take a different stance. "Your sister getting hurt rests on all of us, Gia. Not just you."

She turned her helmeted head back to face him, "W-What?"

"You're not alone anymore, Gia," Jake continued. "We're a team. We share each other's burdens."

Troy added, "Exactly. I already told you. We all need to fight him. Together."

Gia hung her head, letting their words sink into her soul. 'You're not alone anymore, Gia.'

"One, five, it doesn't matter!" Frostquito bit back, before sending a wave of icy wind at them. "You're all going down!"

Troy stepped in front of her and placed a Power Card into his Morpher, "Twistornado: Shine Down!"

"EXPLOSION!"

A red tornado caused the icy wind to disperse.

"What?!"

"Let's get him!" Jake said. "Together!"

Gia watched as the other four rushed into the fight, and she soon followed them.

As soon as she joined the fray, she immediately went down. Jake soon followed, though he had just been forced to his knees.

"Troy!"

"Leave it to me!" He said. "Dragon Sword!" He managed to land a solid hit.

Noah went next, firing into the air. "Shark Bowgun!" All arrows fell down from the sky.

"Nice one, Noah!" Jake said.

"Thanks! Remember, aim for his wings!" Noah replied before charging in.

"Right! Emma, you cover my back!" Jake called behind him.

"On it!" Jake slid in to hit the monster from below as Emma fired at him from above, "Phoenix Shot!"

Emma's shots made Frostquito falter, letting Jake use his Axe to break one of his wings.

But then, Frostquito got in a hit that sent Jake flying. The Black Ranger immediately recovered, by Gia ran over to him and fell to her knees beside him, "You okay?"

Jake gently hit her shoulder, "Go on, Gia. I've got your back."

"Right!" She then got to her feet and charged in with her Tiger Claw.

"Rockrush: Shine Down!" Jake called out, letting the rocks he summoned act as barriers for Gia.

"EXPLOSION!"

The last one broke right in front of the monsters face, right as Gia jumped up and used Jake's Rockrush attack to land in three solid hits.

As the blizzard began to die down, Frostquito struggled to get up.

On the other side, Gia tried her best to stay standing, and she felt comforted when Troy placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Nice job," he said, and she immediately smiled.

"Nice attack, Gia," Jake said.

"Thanks," Gia replied, as she turned to face him. He returned her gratitude with a thumbs up. "But it was stronger thanks to you."

"You punks!" Frostquito got to his feet. "This is not over!"

Gia stepped in her place in the usual line-up. "C'mon! Let's show him what a team can do!"

"Right!"

"Fury of the Dragon, Starforce Red!" Troy called.

"Flames of the Phoenix, Starforce Pink!" Emma called.

"Venom of the Snake, Starforce Black!" Jake called.

"Claw of the Tiger, Starforce Yellow!" Gia called.

"Bite of the Shark, Starforce Blue!" Noah called.

"Earth's Defenders, Never Surrender! Power Rangers: Starforce!"

Frostquito merely growled and sent a wave of ice at them. Gia, Troy, and Jake stepped in front that use their weapons to counter the attack, before stepping back and letting all five of them use their weapons to hit their enemy.

"Weapons Combine!" The five Rangers proceeded to combine their respective weapons into their giant crossbow-like weapon. "Starforce Blaster!"

They all placed their respective Power Cards into the Blaster.

"Sky Power!" Troy and Emma called.

"Land Power!" Gia and Jake called.

"Sea Power!" Noah called.

With this, the Blaster charged up, before they fired it together. "Dynamic Victory Charge!"

Frostquito exploded in a great fireball, but his defeat did not release the city from his ice.

Because the Zombats flew in then and brought him back, but giant size.

"Let's go!" Troy said, the five taking out their Power Cards.

"Mechazords, Shine Down!"

"Summon Zords!"

After the Rangers all leapt into their mechazords, Troy told his team, "Let's heat things up!" before holding up his copy of a certain Power Card.

"Zords Combine!"

"Summon Megazord!"

Jake and Gia connected first, forming the legs. Troy followed up, forming the torso. Noah and Emma were last with the arms. The head was formed last.

"Gosei Great Megazord! Ready!"

"That's not going to change anything, Rangers!" Frostquito quipped, before blowing icy wind at them, and then hit them himself a couple of times.

Once the cockpit had stablized, Jake turned to his element partner, "Gia, let's go!"

"Right!"

Together, the two controlled the Megazord, making his float in the air and kicking the mosnter multiple times.

Emma cheered as the Megazord landed back on the ground, "Nice one!"

"Look, the blizzard has stopped!" Noah noted.

"It's not over yet!" Jake said.

Gia continued, "Time for a combo attack! Launch the Zords!"

She and Jake launched their Headders, which flew around and Tiger got to bite Frostquito in the leg, the same place that he injured Gia. Snake flew around to the other leg and bite the same spot there, before both Headders flipped the monster onto his back.

"Time to end this!" Troy said, holding up the Victory Charge Card, the other four following suit.

"Victory Charge: Shine Down! On behalf of The Land Beyond, your sentence is destruction!"

"Victory Charge!"

Frostquito was destroyed for the last time, and the Rangers celebrated, Gia and Jake especially, as the city below them was finally released from the ice.

Jake had volunteered to take Gia home, partly so she wouldn't have to walk home with an injured leg, but mostly because this was his chance to apologize.

"I forgive you, Jake," Gia's voice was soft. "And I'm sorry, too. You were just trying to help."

Jake reached Gia's house and stopped his truck in front of it. "Take it easy, okay?"

"Don't worry about me," Gia replied, as she started gathering her belongings. "I'll be fine."

As she opened the door and began getting out, Jake called after her, "H-Hey, maybe we could start talking to each other, like you and Troy do."

"We're not quite there yet," Gia told him, a gentle smile on her face.

"Will we ever be?"

Gia was quiet, unable to deny that Jake had posed an excellent question, before nodding. "One day."

Jake watched her enter her house, before he chose to drive on, a content smile on his face.

If driving on an uneven road was the price to pay in order to spend more time with Gia, he found himself not minding it one bit.
